NBAX 2015

Just an FYI use it as you see fit but NBA daily lineups on Twiiter has been right there from what I can tell. I still laid -4.5 with Houston and still believe this goes back to the opener. May I ask where do you get your NBA infor this time of year besides SBNation.

EDIT: I also know your to sharp to take %'s from different sites which have all different %'s into your handicapping a game.

I just scour the Internet and Twitter by searching for whatever I'm looking for. Local newspapers and beat writers are the best way. And betting %s from sportsinsights are a must for any sport. I don't bet on anything without looking at them. It's just one tool in a plethora of tools but it's just as important as anything else. Good luck

Something to keep an eye on for later tonight...

Not saying the Blazers are sitting anyone (not yet, anyways) but, if they aren't, I wouldn't expect to see them in the 2H (especially Lillard, who's only a few days removed from coming back from an ankle sprain). Plus, it looks like cut down day for the Lakers, so expect max effort from fringe guys that play in the 2H.

Adding:

10/19/2015 7:05 PM NBA Preseason Basketball 751 Chicago Bulls/Charlotte Hornets* Under 101½ -110 for 2nd Half
*Gonna go for the 4 point middle (actually, I'm really just buying it off - something about this game doesn't seem right, especially with only two players doing all the scoring...)

smileys-beer-129300.gif

I don't know why, but Ryan Anderson always seems to come up huge whenever I go against New Orleans...

Adding:

10/19/2015 10:35 PM NBA Preseason Basketball 760 Los Angeles Lakers* -5 -110 vs Portland Trail Blazers
*Think Houston covers in the end, but we'll see. And thankfully Donald Sloan missed that FT at the end for the Nets. As for the Lakers, should be able to come away with the win and cover here, although Portland's been a thorn in my side during preseason, so you never know. Still, think the situation dictates a play on the Lakers, so hopefully they come through.

He's one of my favorites. Such a great story
For some strange reason, I thought you were referring to me when I saw that on the main page. I was like "Hunh? What story?"

Thanks Dwight and let's get the Lakers nba! Talk to you tomorrow.

smileys-beer-129300.gif

Well, considering I had the foresight to buy off the Bulls total, avoided getting moosed in Boston, and got a miracle rally for the Rockets win, guess I can't be overly upset with how things shook out the last minute or so at Staples, but still... And someone did hear me mention not to bet on Blazers games anymore, right? SMH...

Anyways, not a whole lot stands out tonight at the moment (maybe Pacers/Bulls over, maybe Warriors, maybe Warriors/Clippers over). The one I do plan on being on is the Bucks team total over. Why?

As most of us know, there's usually a correlation between offensive/defensive ratings and pace (the faster you play, the more points there are likely to be, and vice versa). Well, this illustrates just how beyond garbage the T-Wolves defense has been this season: tied for last in defensive rating, but 2nd to last in pace. On top of that, they're allowing a league worst 48.9% from the field and a mind boggling 41.5% from 3.

The only caveat to all this would be that the Bucks have been fairly average on offense through 4 preseason games (98.5 PPG, 44.8% from the field, and only broken 100 twice), but with turnover machine Ricky Rubio back in the lineup for Minnesota, and no one in the middle to really fend off Greg Monroe for rebounds (Gorgui Dieng? C'mon...), think the Bucks could have a pretty good night.

Anyways, looks like it's going to be 104, so hopefully the line stays stable until the team totals get lined.

Adding:

10/20/2015 11:30 AM Finland Basketball 1521 Pyrinto Tampere/Helsinki Seagulls IF* Under 154½ -110
*Not much to do this morning, so I'll give this one a shot: they've played four times this calendar year (including last week) and haven't crossed this number once, so hopefully they can do it again one more time...

Tough game to call though, between the Clippers looking super disorganized and super disinterested, as well as the war of words between the two sides. Clippers, I suppose, seeing as how they haven't played in almost a week, but that's a tough team to figure out right now, and not sure it's worth trying to be honest...

I am likely to play the under in the Spurs game. Will post after I bet it assuming I do

Did not get the extra info but playing under for 1 unit a total of 196. This is always a little scary with Pops because guessing his true intent can be hard.

Tuesday:

10/21/2015 8:05 PM NBA Preseason Basketball 755 Memphis Grizzlies/Atlanta Hawks* Under 181 -120 *2 UNITS*
*Based on the opening, as well as the way Joerger and Budenholzer have juggled their rotations so far this preseason, have to believe there are going to be a lot of guys sitting out tonight (that's just speculation on my part - nothing's been confirmed as of yet). Still, both regular season games last season finished at 182, and that was with all hands on deck and both teams in the midst of relatively good offensive seasons, so for the total to open at 181... someone knows something. And even if that doesn't turn out to be the case, the Grizzlies and Hawks have been number 1 and number 3 defensively this preseason, so wouldn't expect an offensive explosion either. Fingers crossed that this game is as dull as dull can be.

Market seems to disagree at this point I believe and will take Un 184 and it should hopefully come back close to the opener.
:cheers3: Can't say enough about the work you do. Impressive.

Thanks Paulie. Not sure why I didn't wait it out as I figured the total would go up once people saw such a low number but, at the same time, can't be sitting around all day waiting either. No word yet on any guys resting but, the way I look at it, that's one of those numbers where it's either under or bust, much like when they set a CFB total in the mid 30's, or a baseball total at 5.5. It's easy to say the total's set too low and how there's value in the over but, at the same time, it's not some random, arbitrary number either.

Plus, like I said before, both the Hawks and Grizzlies have been playing shut down defense during the preseason (Memphis holding opponents to 36.9% from the field, Atlanta 37.8%). The two unknowns, of course, are going to be the pace of the game, as well as free throws but, as it stands now, we've got number 27 (ATL) and number 29 (MEM) in terms of shots attempted (ATL 77.2, MEM 74.2), and both in the bottom half in terms of free throws allowed.

With all that said, doesn't mean they can't both come out guns blazing and have this thing sail over, but think I'd be more inclined to say "I knew it..." if I took the over and it turned out to be a dud as opposed to the other way around. We'll see what happens...

Nothing else but to say awesome.:cheers3:

Thanks nba and Paulie. Still can't wrap my head around that Hornets team (old perceptions die hard, I guess). Plus, they were pretty fortunate to come away with the win last night but, like nba said, for a team looking to make some noise this season, an undefeated preseason just might be a rallying cry. As for tonight, kind of waffling right now between the Hornets, Knicks/Celtics over and Nuggets/Jazz under.

Thursday:

10/22/2015 9:05 PM NBA Preseason Basketball 555 Denver Nuggets/Utah Jazz* Under 199 -110
*2 UNITS*
*Don't really have time to write this one up, but the Nuggets have been one of the top defensive teams during the preseason (#25 with a 93.9 DefRtg), while Utah tends to play at an excruciatingly slow pace at home. Not sure if anyone sits or not (this article I found in The Denver Post makes it sound like the Nuggets are going to be shorthanded, although it doesn't really mention anyone specific - what kind of journalism is that?) Plus Quin Snyder didn't sound too impressed with the defensive effort against OKC the other night, so while I don't expect another snoozer like last night's MEM/ATL game, don't think this is a game that lands in the 220's either. Let's hope for the best.

EDIT: Apologies to anyone who was thinking of tailing (which I don't recommend in the first place anyways, but y'know), as I just noticed the number dropped to 197.5 in the last 10 minutes while I was taking my time posting this up. Hopefully it doesn't make much of a difference.

Not trying to be cryptic.
That last game of GS really stunk. Think they really need to run to get the smell off

From what I'm reading Utah's starting 5 is set and that's the 5 that will open the season. As for rotation and what he wants to see is anyone's guess but after losing 4 straight I think he would like to come away with win. Denver is a total mess at this point and before losing to OKC they won 4 straight with pretty much teams that want to get out there. Getting a little buy back seeing 198's but FWIW I think with a starting 5 setup for the start of the season Utah may slow it down and look to run plays and get the timing down that Snyder wants to see. Also don't think anyone is sitting but as far as the minutes goes it's a tough game and it's the last one . I'm going to take a pass and root my ass for the Brick show.

Thanks Paulie. Looks like we got some half decent under umps (as tuck would call them : ) in Garretson and Roe, so Nuggets and Jazz are going to have to earn it from the field tonight. And just as a side note, not sure what time I'll get around to posting tomorrow, but obvious leans would be Orlando team total under, Sixers/Celtics over and Bucks team total over. Let's finish strong.

Nice job.

Leaned portland but pussied out. Such a great spot. Figured the clippers would half ass this after the big win vs the Warriors

Thanks nba and tuck. And, as it turns out, passing on Portland turned out to be a good thing for you (I could have sworn they were up by almost 40 when I went to sleep). Where amazing happens...

Any thoughts on the last day of preseason

Great call hugh just +20 something to the total nothing special

Took the side on Utah last night for a peanut and had the same thoughts as you on Portland and when that number stuck on -5.5 which IMO should have closed around 8 where I might have played it but backed off and missed the moose. Classic NBA game down big DD most of the game and Wham! Win and cover.

I'm still wondering why the lines aren't up yet. If what you said about the Hawks turns out to be true, might want to hit the under at The Palace because Rotoworld's saying Ilyasova and Jackson are out for the Pistons. Plus, the Hawks played that game against the Grizzlies like it was Game 7, so can't see them bringing too much intensity out there tonight. Was leaning Magic team total under, but if Randolph and Gasol sit, Vucevic could have a monster night (plus, I want to make sure Tony Allen's playing). Sixers/Celtics was on my radar, but it's neutral court, and no telling what Stevens has planned as far as lineups go. Other candidates would be Washington (after Miami the other night, that offense is looking like the real deal Holyfield now), Bulls team total over for sure, and Bucks team total over as well.

Problem is, I really want to try and finish +20 for the preseason (and who would've thought that just a few days ago?), so that pretty much means only 1 wager tonight. Might have to wait til around dinner time and see who's playing or not before making up my mind. I'd say Bulls team total is in the lead right now, but I'm not committed to anything just yet.

First thing I usually do in the morning when there's West Coast games is go on Covers, because if something major happened, there's usually a "FIX!" or "Did you just see that?" kind of thread. Sure enough, there was a "Wow! Who's watching the Clippers game?", so I had the feeling they must have come back. Like I said before, that Blazers team makes literally no sense to me (although Pat Connaughton from Notre Dame really impressed me the other night), and pretty sure I'm not even going to bother trying once the season starts.

Good hit on Utah Paulie, and thanks to you, nbafan and tuck for helping keep the preseason talk flowing.

Looks like Derrick Rose is playing limited minutes tonight, so that might be enough to sway me from my Bulls lean (105 might be a tough ask against a Mavs team that hasn't been as bad defensively as I originally thought). The Orlando team total looks like it's going to be around 90 so not sure on that one, Hawks total not on the board as of yet, but I would assume it'll be in the 191-196 range. Only reason I'm hesitating on the Bucks is because Kidd pulled the starters going into the 4th the other night, so the total just barely hit, but with that 107.7 DefRtg the T-Wolves are holding, it's going to be tough to pass on a 102 or 103 total.

Back a little later after I hit Subway for lunch (I'm feeling Chicken Parmesan today : )

I think I like the Hawks even with the players who are out. The bench guys are good and can fill in just fine. Waiting to see the line

10/23/2015 7:35 PM NBA Preseason Basketball 753 Philadelphia 76ers/Boston Celtics* Over 200½ - 120 *2 UNITS*
*More information being disclosed at the Benghazi hearings than from NBA teams today... Anyways, doesn't look like 5Dimes plans on putting up team totals any time soon, and I won't be back until most games have tipped off, so going to go with this one, for the plain and simple reason that there isn't as big a discrepancy in the pace numbers as in some of the other games (with the exception of Orlando/Memphis, but if Randolph and Gasol sit, those numbers go out the window). As it stands now, the Sixers are #1 in pace at 107.46, with the Celtics not far behind at #7 with 103.56. In terms of scoring, Boston should be able to put up at least 100 given the way they've played on offense to this point (99 points on only 42.2% shooting last night against the Knicks), and given how poor the Sixers continue to be on defense. As for the aforementioned Sixers, that part's a little trickier as the offense has been super inconsistent (17 points one quarter, 37 the next), but without Kelly Olynyk inside to break anyone's arm, Noel and Okafor should be able to put up some points tonight. Two other things going for the Sixers: a) they've been getting to the line a lot (33.5 FTA per game) and b) taking a lot of 3's, which should come in handy as the Celtics haven't been overly great at defending from beyond the arc (35.6%).

Don't know that it'll be as easy as the past little while, but between the series trending over during the regular season the past few years, a couple of favourable refs in terms of foul calling, and guys on the roster bubble looking to make one last impression, think the over's got a decent shot here.
