Is David Blatt stupid?

How is Kerr better than Walton? Better than Blatt? Better than Lue? How can we even compare?! If Lue fails to get to the NBA Finals, that's probably on him, since he has the roster to get there. If he manages to win in the Finals, over healthy GSW or Spurs, that's also because of him, because both teams have better rosters.

Id argue that Kerr and Walton can both manage superstars better than Blatt, and that is a big part ofNBA coaching

couldn't you argue that these 20 plus years in Europe is a red flag against him. I mean if he was so good shouldn't he have been brought over years ago?
As far as I know, he didn't want to come to the NBA. Most European coaches didn't want to hear about the NBA and the other way around for many years. It's only lately they started to come closer together. You can make the same argument about Donovan and many others in colleges as well...
We also know how hard it is to bring someone outside of the NBA to the NBA. We saw the treatment that Blatt got...

The NBA has been trying to get the top coaches from college for years, most turn them down

Divol, you do know that Kobe and the Lakers lobbied hard to get Coach K in the earlier part of this century.

How many jobs has Izzo turned down? What about Coach Cal?

Depends. In the NBA - without a doubt. But again, there is an asteric next to that. Bron is very hard to coach. Brown, Spoelstra, Blatt - all felt that.
We saw how well Blatt managed to get along with Kyrie. I'm 100% sure that Blatt would have been just fine with AD, Curry, Durant...

But overall, I tend to agree. Blatt is a very demanding coach that needed to adjust to come to league that is ruled by stars and not coaches...

Yes, but you can say the same about European coaches. Most of them didn't want anything to do with the NBA. Then Messina came, then Spahija followed and now Blatt. A decade ago, European coaches didn't want to hear anything about the NBA...

Bkatt lack an understanding that this is a players league and he didn't understand the nuances of the NBA game. He would have been much better served being an assistant in the NBA first, his European credentials don't mean shit this side of the Atlantic as the NBA is several levels above Euro ball.

Typical Yankee mentality....his credentials are his credentials, well earned and lauded everywhere but cappingthegame. Smh at several levels above EURO ball, with this minset it is no wonder we are where we are.

Listen, Blatt wasn't going to win an NBA finals with a SUPER team that should be the favorites to win the title.

If Pop coached the Cavs they'd win it all.

But it would require Lebron to stop being such a little bitch. He's fought with every coach including Spo. Hard to truly build around a player who is an all-time bad shooter and needs the balls in his hands every play.

But Lue isn't winning anything, either.

Takes time, to gel, mesh. This turnover just sealed up a WC NBA finals champ unless they mayor in Chicago finally sees some improvement from his team on offense.

Euro ball vs. NBA?

Mirotic was the best player in Europe and he's an erratic, sometimes good, role player at best in the NBA right now. Pretty much sums up the levels.

He is not even close to being the best. He is good, not the best. But what one got to do with the other?
College has much less talent than the NBA, so? No one questions their experience...

The Americans who star in Europe aren't even good enough to be the last man on an NBA roster. Madrid if dropped in the NBA isn't even a playoff team in the East and in a best of 7 series vs the bottom tier NBA teams they might be able to beat 2-3 teams max...and if they stepped on the court vs the Warriors or Spurs they couldn't compete.

No one argues that NBA is more talented by far than any other league in the world. BY FAR!
But, making a comeback is still making a comeback, drawing last second play is still drawing a last second play and believe me, European fans and atmosphere is by far more intense and hard to coach in, than the NBA. Never in Europe you will see your team getting beat and everyone is cheering.
Coaching experience is still coaching experience. More than colleges for sure imho...

What?! Pop would have won last year's series? Seriously doubt that. I honestly don't think that any other coach would have won more than two games that Blatt and Cleveland won...

Typical yankee mentality? Seriously? Grow the hell up. It is what it is.

The multi-millionaire superstars with big egos etc aren't going to respect a guy that hasn't had a second of NBA experience. Aside from the basketball, court, and flopping Euro ball and NBA aren't really the same. Sorry.

It would be like the best professional MLS soccer coach going to coach a futbol club in Europe. Please.

coaching isn't just about the X's and O's.... It's much more about everything else including relating to your players, being there for them off the court when they need you and basically making a point to let them know no matter what you have their back. It's quite clear that didn't happen in Cleveland.

Btw, so far, all teams that Blatt left in Europe, really struggled to come close to what he did with the team before. Wonder if Cleveland will break the curse...

Divol makes a good point about last years finals. There is no way that should not have been a sweep.

And it is what it is as far as how the players rule the roost right now in the NBA ... and that is the typical yankee mentality that sucks. We have a bunch of Divas playing the game now who aren't willing to be coached. If the Cavs hire Blatt, and the players don't listen to him because he has no NBA experience, then they simply are not doing their job. Fuck Lebron and American superstars.

Sixers -11 vs madrid though ....

I can't have a mature discourse with this mindset sorry, Grow the hell up? Lol

I agree with you

Btw, read today interesting article on Israeli site. He brought up one interesting and important point about this move. After last year's attention to Cleveland, to Blatt, to LeBron, to Blatt and LeBron - this season the media was all about GSW, Porzingis and the Spurs mostly.
This move, brought back all the attention back to Cleveland and this probably not a good thing for them. They struggled in the first two games (Blatt also lost at home to the Knicks in his first game btw) and with Spurs coming in, things won't get easier for them.

He also brought up another point. First time in the NBA history, best player in the world (or we thought he were back then), that been in 4 straight NBA Finals and won two titles, came to a team that failed to make it to the playoffs and with stars on it roster, that never been in the playoffs even. That's the most power one player ever had over an entire organization.

tough crowd...:mean2:

I need a decoder ring for this post, Divol. Something is getting lost in translation in that last paragraph

First time I've seen this thread. Not sure what it's even about .. As HUGE Cavs fan I hated that we got rid of blaTT. Any team will be lucky to have him ...lue is a joke.

I didn't think it mattered much, still don't, but they have regressed a tad by any measure. They have some pretty bad recent losses at home, defense has suffered. And why can't this team win a game while Bron rests, it's ridiculous.
