Injury Updates all weeks

s--k

Goodbye to Romance College Football
Does anyone know the latest on QB Jack Abraham for Southern Miss? Saw a story from Monday said they would wait until later in the week, which is now, but I can't find anything. He is listed with an "or" on the depth chart.

This is from 11/6 on Kato Nelson who was injured with high ankle sprain Thursday 11/1. Hard to see how Akron scores many points without him. If he plays and can't move EM D will eat them up.

On the EM side, Glass is out, again. Weigers played great vs Ball St, not so much vs Central Mich. Weigers struggles when getting pressured, otherwise he is capable.

Never mind Eastern Michigan just yet.

The question that will occupy the minds of University of Akron football fans for much of the week is whether quarterback Kato Nelson will play against the Eagles.

Nelson went down after completing a 13-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kwadarrius Smith with 4:19 left in the third quarter and the Zips looking to seize momentum in their loss to Northern Illinois. He was in the midst of having his best game as a starter.

At that point, he’d completed 18-of-26 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns. On the touchdown, it appeared that a teammate rolled up on his leg, resulting in an injury. Backup Alex Ramart finished the game.

“He’s day-to-day. Thank goodness all the MRIs and stuff were negative,” UA coach Terry Bowden said in his Tuesday news conference. “He’s moving around better [Tuesday], we just have to play it by ear and see where he is so we are not ruling him out. He’s a tough kid, but he’s making much improvement.”

As for how he’s handling the situation psychologically, Bowden said Nelson is relying on that toughness.

“If he can [play], he will, so I don’t know if there’s any time to sit there and think about something like that,” he said. “That would come later if that were to be the decision later on. He’s worked through it, so I don’t think it has an effect right now.”

Ramart, 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, will be ready for the opportunity he’s given if it arrives, Bowden said.

“He’s getting some reps this week as we still try to rehabilitate Kato and get him ready to go,” he said. ”[Alex] is getting a lot of work. You’ll do some things with him that you might not do with Kato. He’ll be ready to step in if he’s called upon.”

I always find it frustrating when stories from Monday/Tuesday say "won't know more until later in the week" and then there is no update from later in the week.

The number of potential QBs that Florida could play Saturday is down to 2. Kyle Trask broke his foot in practice.

Wow, Devon Johnson former Marshall RB died:

The Richlands, Virginia, native came to Marshall as a linebacker, but left the Thundering Herd as one of the top-10 rushers in Marshall history, despite not moving to running back until fall camp before his junior year in a transition from tight end.

During that 2014 season, Johnson took Conference USA by storm, producing 1,767 yards and 17 touchdowns and helped lead Marshall to the Conference USA championship - its lone C-USA football title in program history. Johnson's 8.58 yards per carry average was tops nationally among backs who averaged 15 carries per game. Those numbers led him to being a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award, which is given annually to the nation's top running back.

Johnson earned the nickname "Rockhead" because of his bullish, bruising running style and his ability to run through the opposition.

His 2015 season was abbreviated by injuries, but he still rushed for 593 yards and five touchdowns in seven games.

For his Marshall career Johnson rushed for 2,373 yards, which put him 10th all-time on the Herd career list. Johnson set the Marshall game record for rushing yards with 272 against Florida Atlantic on Oct. 25, 2014.

The Carolina Panthers signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and injuries prevented him from advancing past the practice squad.

11/08/18 LB Malcolm Cook Hernia is out for season

11/06/18 DE Mandy Alonso Lower Body is out for season

11/04/18 S Brenton Nelson Undisclosed is "?" Saturday vs Liberty

11/04/18 S Joey Blount Lower Body is "?" Saturday vs Liberty

11/04/18 S Juan Thornhill Foot is "?" Saturday vs Liberty

11/04/18 LB Robert Snyder Undisclosed is "?" Saturday vs Liberty

That is alot of recent injuries for Virginia D. Wonder what it might mean for the Liberty game? Assuming they figure they can / need to get the questionable guys healed up for the final two ACC games.

Was trying to find out what RB Andrew Clair's status is for Bowling Green. He injured ankle 10/13 at WM and missed the last 2 games. He is a play maker that if anyone is betting BG you want him available and if you are betting CMich you rather he not play. Pelini didn't mention him at the press conf. One thing from the presser, sounds like BG will get QB Loy on the field more. He played some vs Kent. Loy is more of the running guy.

LeVert Hill is "my guess" gonna suit up and not play unless needed. Conflicting reports this week. He was definitely in protocol. They don't mess around with that at UM nowadays.

Just changed the thread title to make it an ongoing injury update/discussion thread.

Anyone know status of Kansas St CB Duke Shelley ? Pretty sure he has missed the last 3 games. Him vs ISU's Butler would be a good matchup. KState website game notes put him on the depth chart although I don't know if that officially means he is playing or not.

Oklahoma is down to one scholarship RB. Brooks is pretty good, but he's a redshirt freshman who was 4th string until the three guys ahead of him got hurt. Two of the three--1st and 3rd stringer--are gone for the season. Sermon, the 2nd stringer is out and is another on the "later int he week" list.

Fortunately Murry is probably a better runner than any RB in the country. He's not big enough to take may hits, but he never gets hit.

LSU DL Breiden Fehoko hasn’t played in a couple weeks, confirmed out for the season today. Starting CB Kristian Fulton has been out since Arkansas, but backup Kelvin Jospeh is supposed to be back this week along with safeties John Battle and Todd Harris.

Sam Ehlinger is iffy for Kansas. Took another nasty shot on his throwing shoulder and re-injured. I love how this guy has progressed overall including 300+ consecutive throws without a pick. But if he continues to play QB with a LB mentality it's not going to end well. Doling out punishment as a QB just doesn't work over the long haul.

Nebraska may or may not have one of its top receiving weapons against Iowa.
Sophomore JD Spielman missed the second game of his career last weekend recovering from injuries, and Scott Frost said Monday the 5-foot-9, 185-pound standout remains questionable for the Black Friday tilt.

"We're working as hard as we can on him," Frost said. "Feel good about it, but we'll have to see as the week goes on."
Spielman has 818 receiving yards this season and a team-high eight touchdowns. His 66 catches in a season are second-most in school history, trailing only Marlon Lucky (75 in 2007).

Just announced Texas leading tackler, LB Gary Johnson, suspended for game today - violation of team rules.

God dammit, kids.

Spielman was running field in warmups "testing ankle". No word yet whether he will suit up or go.

If he plays will he be able to be himself or will he be cautious and trying to avoid injury? Hope he plays and hope he reminds everyone how good he is.
