Has Johnny Football Worn His Welcome?

twinkie13

In transit, arriving late.
Obviously insanely popular cat. Wins the Heisman, etc. He is everywhere. Has he handled it the best? I used to kinda pull for the kid...short dude doing things, fun to watch. He is kinda feeling himself and loving him some him lately.

I have kinda soured on the dude. He aint gonna be a QB in the NFL so I am kinda shocked he wants to leave so quick

he 100% gets drafted as a QB next year

Never like him from the get go. Dude isn't even invited to NY if aTm were still in the Big 9. And as a side note I've always casually rooted for them so I'm not simply hating on the school, but him.

he 100% gets drafted as a QB next year

This is most likely correct.

I agree with others though that he isn't going to be an NFL QB. I just don't see how when he's pretty much Tim Tebow 2.0 (who can maybe throw a bit better than Timmy).

Dudes:
Johnny Football is certainly a polarizing figure when it comes to the NFL (and even the college game for that matter). It will be very interesting to see how his season goes this year and in the future based on his love of the fanfare, casino gambling, tweeting and who knows what else.
The college game is certainly more suited to his skills set, although he's one of those guys that just might be good at every level and exceed the expectations of his naysayers. Some guys just have the "it" factor, although he clearly needs to learn to better manage the attention and fame.
However, it's not farfetched on the other hand to think he might succumb to the same fate as another 'Johnny' _ the one immortalized in that great late 1970s Bad Company hit, "Shooting Star."

"Johnny made a record, went straight up to No. 1...Don't you know that you are a shooting star and all the world will love you just as long, as long as you are a shooting star..."

Good luck,
Paul

P.S. _ Maybe not so much since winning the Heisman, but Johnny spent a lot of his weekends in Austin prior to the 2012 season. Friends with several Longhorn players, with one of those being first-round draft pick Kenny Vacarro. And trust me, College Station ain't no Austin.

sumlin system perfect for him ... sumlin offese perfect for how sec defenses are built ... it was a perfect storm. I will believe he is a tebow caliber winner in the nfl when he proves it

What's crazy is his twitter is filled with pics/vines of him topszn(weed reference) and the media is completely unaware of it's meaning lol

I'm a big fan of Johnny Football, like his style and the kid is simply an absolute gamer... I think a lot of this media stuff, tweeting, etc now is more due to the aTm rules that no freshman can speak to or be interviewed by the media.

"This season, Texas A&M and Johnny Manziel took a subtler approach, in part because Manziel surged only recently into contention. Texas A&M’s method lacks what would seem to be an essential element: an actual campaign. In this era of advertisement, where universities build platforms and solicit votes for players, this is a rare strategy. Less “look at me.” More “look at me — if you feel like it.”

Manziel’s Heisman noncampaign also lacks what would seem to be an essential voice: Manziel’s. Because he is a freshman, Texas A&M does not allow him to speak to the news media. He speaks to the public only in person or on Twitter. No interviews. Only mystery, wrapped in a homespun narrative."

yep. and everyone remembers the Bama game

go watch the LSU game at Kyle field

Nice try VK, but you definitely know that's not what I was implying with the Tebow comparison. It won't take long for him to be the Tebow clipboard-holder 3rd string (at best) NFL "QB."

Are these supposed to be the 'weed reference' pictures? If so, what are the hands doing below his? If he's breaking up some weed to roll hypothetically, what in the hell are they doing? Catching the weed?

Yup that's what it is. His twitter is filled with alot more pics of him doing it than that. Surprised nobody at ESPN hasn't alerted Skip Bayless to what it means so him and Stephen A could pontificate on whether or not it means he has a "drug problem" with how the media like to sensationalize things. Personally I think he's just having some fun with it, but the media loves to start shit, especially when it comes to Johnny Football and his twitter

Cap, I get it but you didn't answer my question. What are the others doing, catching the weed? Or have they never smoked weed nor ever saw anyone rolling a blunt/joint and have no f'ing idea what they're supposed to be doing? lol

I don't know bro I didn't come up with it lol. It started by these dudes in Drake's crew. Supposedly topszn is the kind of weed they smoke and that's the gesture they always make

He is 100% a qb on the next level and will easily be drafted in the first 2 rounds.

I also completely disagree. I shouldn't be so quick to dismiss him as a QB on the next level, but there's no way he's 100% an NFL QB based on 1 season of Division 1 college football.

I expect him to take a step back this year, and if/when he does everyone can re-assess where he stands as an NFL prospect. With all of the history of QBs (and other positions) who have looked good in college only to go on and do absolutely nothing in the NFL, it blows my mind that there are still so many guys are labeled as 'can't miss' prospects. It's really just indicative of our society (sports wise) nowadays and how everything has to be the "best ever" and seemingly half of the leagues are comprised of HOFers after 1 or maybe a few seasons of above average production.

good post.

I see a faster Chase Daniel

Maybe he can be groomed. He was a fucking freshman.

I wouldnt burn a high pick on him

He didnt really have a ton of weapons to throw to. He will be compared to Russell Wilson. The guy has been a winner his whole career. He might not be a star in the league, but he will be a starter and given an opportunity.

as much as I don't like him, I can't disagree with your comparison. But, I do need to see more ...

Lololololol what??? That team was loaded at WR

agree that he will be given an opportunity but he does not have the physical tools to be a top NFL QB. Some team like the Raiders or Jags will most definitely take a flier on him high in the 1st round unless he regresses big time, which I don't see happening in that circus offense.

He didnt really have a ton of weapons to throw to.

RB Christine Michael was drafted in the 2nd round by the Seahawks, and WR Ryan Swope was drafted in the 6th round by the Cardinals. Also, WR Uzoma Nwachukwu was signed to a free agent contract by the Houston Texans.

Additionally, Phil Steele rates returning WR Mike Evans as the 6th best wide receiver in the nation.

TAMU was loaded at the skill positions last season, and look to be again this season.

He might not be a star in the league, but he will be a starter and given an opportunity.

Whether Manziel will be given an opportunity will be contingent upon who drafts him. If he's drafted by someone like New England or Green Bay, he'll likely be holding a clipboard for years.

^^^

and two top 5 picks at both OT.....what an odd post craw.

Luke Joeckel was the second overall pick of the draft. Jake Matthews returned for his senior season, and is ranked the #1 tackle in the country by Phil Steele (and many others).

To me he's a Ryan Leaf type guy - talented COLLEGE player but will be a wash-out in the NFL.

It could also be the media is looking for a new face for college football, in a Tim Tebow sort of way.

Thank God, CS is no Austin

Shittenburger hit two passes that beat the Ags. FLA/LSU defenses are pretty good and played smart.

Chase Daniel could throw a pass, still not sure on JFF.

Ags have enough QB's to sell on EBay.

Two years gents,............Kenny Hill.

Pressitup:
Kenny Hill definitely could be the guy down the road. Got to like the pedigree (dad, Ken, was a Major League pitcher mostly with the Cardinals) and his Southlake Carroll heritage.
While Hill may be the quarterback in 2015 for the Ags, who will be the head coach in two years?

Good luck,
Paul

Wow. Full on basket-case mode at this point. Oregon had Marcus Mariota and Manziel both committed at one point. I think we ended up with the right one. We also had Thomas Johnson committed too before he switched to A&M. Not sure what his story is these days.

This guy was so epic last year, really hoping he doesnt do something bonehead to get suspended. A&M will have much more talent this year than last.
