I try not to get too excited about recommending pitchers in their major league debuts, but Taijuan Walker (3 percent ESPN.com fantasy ownership) is an exception. The just-turned-21-year-old phenom has been dominant in the minors this season, posting a 2.93 ERA and 160 K's in 141 1/3 innings (10.2 K/9) between Double-A and Triple-A. His 3.6 BB/9 rate over this stretch is a bit troubling, but not uncommon for a young pitcher. Pitching against the free-swinging Houston Astros is a perfect scenario for Walker to thrive in on Friday. Astros batters have 3.6 times more strikeouts (1,252) than walks (350) this season, including 23 whiffs and just five free passes over the past two contests. Plus, Walker should get plenty of run support from his Seattle Mariners, who will face struggling starter Brad Peacock (his 5.67 ERA and 1.44 WHIP this season are even worse at Minute Maid Park: 6.20 ERA, 1.53 WHIP). Walker is a strong pickup for most fantasy formats for as long as he remains in the starting rotation, which unfortunately might not be long as the M's will be cautious with the youngster.

Parker is on 5 days rest today.

Andy Iskoe on Sports X Radio speculating about a bet on Peacock because he has been pitching so well.
Real difference of opinion depending on if you are actually looking

In addition to Gyno's notes above....baseball prospectus rated the 6-4 walker at #9 in their top 50 prospects at mid season...he throws his fastball seemingly effortlessly at 92-98 and mixes it with an effective cutter at 93....he was projected as a level 7 #2 starter with excellent potential if he can develop his off speed stuff which he will need in the bigs...agree with gyno in that this guy could be good....he's ultra competitive also

On peacock...i have had real good luck with him on the ff this year and thought he had been pitching pretty decent lately(but not real sure) but tonight i think i will throw a little at the prospect

one other note....seattle is rumored to have set his innings at 160 so we will probably see him 3 times if he is successful....if he can pitch the mariners will have a decent 1-3 to build around

first thoughts

against lincecum
against manship
kc....streaky
chase pads and balt...lad has come back to earth and balt lineup will get to one of yanks starters

it's amazing to me that the idiots at ESPN call the Astros free-swinging. If they had paid attention or knew anything about baseball they would know it's an organizational theme to work pitchers to focus on pitchcounts so of course that'll lead to K's as they get deep in counts more than any other team in the majors besides maybe Boston

RE today's game: I don't think the M's hit very well and who knows about this kid in his debut, but he should be able to overpower the Stros

pissed I let +112 go on OAK last night, but I really like the under in that one and I think I'm going to try to find a better way to play that instead of picking a side...

like the over in Wrigley. Halladay and Smardzjaoeha with the wind blowing out. Pretty decent lineups for both and I just don't buy that Halladay is back to his old self after one game off the DL.

Like Parker at home tonight at -102. Think the A's are playing with a ton of confidence and yesterday's debacle should only increase the focus, especially against the reigning Cy Young winner (who he has lost 3 of his last 4 starts against). A's hit lefties better than righties and with Crisp healthy at the top of the order, I like them to manufacture runs tonight. Parker has been dealing and the Rays are in a bit of hitting slump (16 runs L6 games). Close game, but at home and at nearly even money, I have to play it.

Also like O's TT ov 4. CC ain't right and his starts the opposition has plated 4 or more runs in 8 straight starts. Little concerned about the O's struggles vs. lefties, but they hit CC pretty well (note Alexi Casilla hitting 16 for 30!). Plus, nice nite in NY with wind blowing out to left at 10MPH and I'll take my shot that these guys get at least 4.

Dont you hate when you're all set for a play and tuck pisses on it? I listen, but I'm still distraught.
