Funny thing is, the GDP of Ontario probably compares favorably to a lot of the UEFA nations (well, the Eastern European ones at least), so no reason to think a professional, well organized league wouldn't be able to work. Look at Ottawa - we went from 500 (maybe) when the Fury were a semi pro team to close to 5000 last year. And the "we only support hockey" argument is pure BS as Rogers is finding out why their tv deal right now. Besides, what else is there to do in Windsor or Thunder Bay during the summer?

On an unrelated note, this Atlas game is reminding me why I usually don't do sides. Ugh...

*Told kj the other night that I don't normally do the 1st leg of the Champions League matches, but this one's hard to pass up: Porto's scored at least 1 goal in each of their last 14 European matches, and at least 1 goal in 9 of their last 10 on the road in Europe. Basel's a tough place to play but, at the same time, they've only kept one clean sheet in their last eleven matches (against the lowest scoring team in the Super League in Luzern), while Porto's only been held scoreless once in their last 11 matches, so not too worried about that one. As for RM, seems like a no brainer with them starting to hit their stride again domestically. Plus, they've won their last 8 Champions League matches, so wouldn't expect too much of a fight from a scuffling Schalke side.

*Creteil's 21-3 O/U 1.5 this season, while Clermont's 18-6 O/U 1.5, so not too worried about it hitting 2, and pretty sure it's got a good chance of hitting 3 or more. Anyways, this one's in keeping with my new found policy of only taking games where the teams exhibit a higher than average offense or below average defense, or some combination thereof. Obviously, it's still a work in progress, and I haven't exactly been following it to a tee (as the past few days have shown, although I have this morning), but I'll try my best to do so moving forward, because action just for the sake of action doesn't seem to work for me all that much anymore.

As for the relevant stats (seeing as how I brought it up), Creteil's 0.23 goals above the Ligue 2 average on offense and 0.23 below the league average on defense, while Clermont's 0.15 and 0.31 above and below respectively. Numbers also favor the home/road splits so, really, there should be plenty of chances to score and (hopefully) at least a few goals in this one, but it's obviously not a guarantee. Just think I need to start defining an edge on a more consistent basis when I pick games like cxbbum does as opposed to just thinking "oh, these are two high scoring teams, so there should be some goals" because, sadly, it doesn't always work out that way...

Anyways, I've devoted way too much time writing up a meaningless lower tier game, so hopefully there are at least two goals, and I'll be back later...

Eight games in Ligue 2 at the moment, fewer shots in each game by almost a 2 to 1 margin than in the Clermont game and yet, somehow, mine is the only one without a goal so far. You can't make this stuff up sometimes...
