Featured What have we learned after 11 weeks of college football?

- Fade USF, and big, the rest of the year. They're undisciplined to begin with, very. That's a Charlie thing. On top of that they don't have any players. Cincy was pretty much comatose tonight and still won with ease.
- I don't know if I've ever seen someone who accelerates faster than Jerry Jeudy. Wow.
- Go home, Kentucky. Fraud.
- Interesting little little fracas in the Baylor / ISU game. David Montgomery is one of my favorite players in CFB. For selfish reasons, I'll be okay if he misses part of the Texas game. Just gotta keep your cool.
- Gary Danielson needs to retire.
- OU / OSU was an atrocious game to watch.
- Good for Ehlinger. Big throw, big win tonight. He's nearing 300 throws now without a pick. Most important thing in the game - ball security.

Seems like there are a half dozen games week that the QB slides running for the first down on 3rd (or even 4th down) and gets marked short and then they act confused about why they are short. Get the first downs for your team instead of protecting yourself so you can walk to the sideline while the punter can come on the field.

Is there a line Utah State can’t cover?

Either Nevada is really putting it together or add Colorado State to the fade at all costs list, maybe both.

I continue to be impressed with Justin Wilcox.

I can’t wait to hear Retro’s thoughts on the game in Norman.

Ed Orgeron’s money was on LSU, but Nick Brossette’s was on Arkansas.

Who is the new DC at Minnesota? Pretty good.

Northwestern going to B1G Champ in Indy! I know some won't like that, but I think it is awesome. Northfuckingwestern beat Wisconsin, beat Iowa, beat Nebraska, beat Purdue...Now, I'm not very excited to see them rematch Michigan. First off, I hate championship rematches. Based on this development I may have to want Ohio St to beat Michigan now so we can have a different matchup.

Good win for Sanchez and UNLV, assume that definitely gets him another year and interested to see what that team may look like next year.

Never lay double digits with Rocky 3rd and Long. Great coach, don't get me wrong. But 0-5 as DD faves this year. Narrow wins over SJSU, NM, and now a loss to UNlV.

Utah State is my adopted team this year as they are paying for me and my son's Spring Break vacation in 2019 LOL. I love the way they play and will continue to ride that train as long as I can. Man, if I would have just played Alabama 1H and USU game and totals, I could have retired by now haha.

Just wait till next year with Hunter Johnson at QB.

Anyone know what conference is supplying refs in the playoffs? Need to know what conferences to start sending our checks

Reminder to be mindful of lookahead spots. For whatever reason, despite focusing on bowl implications for motivational purposes and conference needs, I failed to factor in lookahead spots for the Fresno State and SDSU football teams, thus costing myself two bets. I would never, ever have bet Boise State and probably would have still been on Fresno State but had I been more mindful that particular situation, I could have avoided an offensively anemic Aztec squad who isn't a good big favorite. Reminding myself so reminding everyone else.

Deceiving Finals from yesterday off the top of my head:

Baylor 14 ISU 28- Game had a brawl in it so make sure you remember about folks sitting a half next week. I think only two were ejected?? Not sure. Anyway, 505 yards for Baylor and 355 yards for ISU, Baylor ran 23 more plays and failed to score multiple times in the red zone. This was both deceiving in the sense that Baylor should have won the game outright for anyone with a ML bet and the game assuredly should have gone over the posted total. This one and Clemson were the two most obvious that I watched on Saturday. Penalties played a significant factor in hurting Baylor as well ... and there was an interesting sequence with regard to a review too. Baylor threw an apparent completion to the one yard line and then hurried to the line and ran a QB sneak for a TD. They unpile and celebrate and the extra point unit comes on. Only to discover at that point that the TD was not under review, the play prior to it was. That is quite the delay. Baylor coach extremely upset. The prior play was incomplete,. Clearly and without dispute it was incomplete so they did at least get the call right. Considering the hfa that ISU got with the officials, I think this played into the emotions of the game that led to the brawl. I have to admit, it would be hard for me to not call penalties on Baylor too.

Clemson 27 Boston College 7 - 424 to 113 yardage edge for clemson, 19-8 first down edge. Both teams had punt returns for touchdowns. Brown went down after just 3 pass attempts (2 of 3 for 6 yards). I will give the BC defense credit .. holding Clemson to 20 points from their offense when your own offense generated an average of two first downs per quarter is pretty stellar work. Obviously the margin of victory in this game should have been much worse.

Ohio State 26 Michigan State 6 - While certainly deserving of winning and cashing the ATS ticket, the buckeyes had just a 347-274 yardage advantage though they did have a 21-12 FD edge which clearly shows which team was more consistent on offense. Still 20 point win off of 347 total yards of offense is pretty deceiving. The oddest timed intentional safety that I have ever seen occurred in that game.

Texas 41 Texas Tech 34 - Texas Tech with untimely turnovers but otherwise did whatever they wanted against the mentally injured longhorn defense. Imagine your one major weakness being defending the spread offense when you play in the big12 ... not good. Anyway, 595-469 yardage advantage to Texas Tech, and 32-28 FD edge. To be fair the Horns had a sizable lead in this one and blew it in the fourth quarter before driving for the winning td.

Fun fact: Eastern Michigan held Akron to 90 total yards and last week held Central Michigan to 138 total yards. That is 228 total yards in two weeks of modern day football folks.

SMU 62 Uconn 50 - Uconn had a 34 to 24 fd edge and were outgained by just 11 yards. SMU did lead throughout. Uconn had 583 yards of offense in the game and scored 40 second half points. Still waiting on reports of whether or not SMU played with 10 guys on defense .... I would think so because they would probably have caught it if they were playing with just 9.

Fun Fact: ECU ran 94 plays, 68 of which were passes and scored just 18 points.

Honorable mentions: OM/TAMU, Ill/Neb

I really like EM's D and what Creighton has done there. EM has 6 wins, and they should get 7 at Kent after Thanksgiving.

Wanted to also say, that while EM D is a really good MAC D, BGSU just held Central Michigan to 166 yards so...and that QB Akron trotted out there never stood a chance.

This feels like the worst the MAC has been in the middle to bottom of the league when you consider the kind of football, CM, Akron, BG, Kent, Ball St are playing, where WM has found themselves without their QB and how down Toledo is. 3 pretty good teams, 2 decent teams and the rest is really bad.

I beyt you loved that Davidson/USD game yesterday.

Not sure if this is the place for this potential hot take but here it goes...this season has been really underwhelming imo. I’m having a very profitable season from a betting standpoint but the weekly matchups havent really delivered. Through 11 weeks, there’s been two, maybe three Saturday slates that have gotten me really excited as a huge college football fan. I feel like I’ve been looking forward to week 13 for like the past six weeks lol

Agree, without gambling this sport would have been unwatchable other than my favorite team. It's just too watered down and I completely blame the playoff. Only thing that could make it interesting would be Bama winning a close bowl game against Oklahoma/Michigan and Clemson blowing the doors off Notre Dame and controversy like the old days. Thank God for gambling I guess?

It's no longer can't miss Saturday that's for sure

But in just a few short weeks we will be like "Damn, I just wish CFB season hadn't ended." Watered down, perhaps. Underwhelming slate of games this year, perhaps.
Even in a "down" year, though, CFB is still the best sport in the nation - inherently it has things that other sports can't and don't offer, and those things don't change from year to year.

I hate thinking about later this winter. I like CBB but it just doesn't hold a candle to what CFB brings to the table. Every Saturday in the fall is still pretty golden to me.

Is it because of the playoff? We've got to be careful not to ruin the whole season because of a stupid playoff.

Maybe it's because there is such a large gap between the good and average teams this year. Only 2 teams with exactly 2 losses right now when there are usually a dozen or so at this point in the season. So there's not a lot of 9-1 vs 10-0 or 10-0 vs 8-2 type games like there normally are. No real chance the top 10 teams or so are seriously challenged until championship weekend and beyond.

Interesting, maybe this should be in the know you're old thread, but I won't miss it at all. Hell I already look more forward to some NBA games than CFB. Tell me that even a year ago and I'd say you're loco. The product has become much more about entertainment than sport and it quite frankly isn't all that interesting other than gambling. HUNT is 100% correct. It's complete crap.

I'll probably go to a bowl game, but unlike years past it will be to see people more than the game itself. Gimme CBB, soccer, golf, even NBA over this.

Again, fortunately there's gambling. Glad many of you still find this sport entertaining outside the money I guess.

I absolutely agree with you. I’ll go into a depression once the national championship is over, nothing beats football season. I didn’t mean to come across as not appreciative of the season or anything like that. Glass half empty thought is that we’re 11 weeks in and it’s felt less exciting thus far. Glass half full thought is that week 13 & conference championship weeks should be loaded

I think that’s very accurate. How many conferences have more than two good teams? Pac 12, big ten and ACC have been disappointing to me

I think it's getting harder for the middle class of the power 5 to compete with the blue bloods, and this is the result: less meaningful games because there are less great teams. It's the elite, and then a huge drop. The bottom of the P5 and beyond have very little shot to compete on a weekly basis, much less a yearly basis. Coaching is so important in this sport, and there just aren't that many great ones out there. And the great ones eventually find their way to the elite. There's also less to sell a recruit for those middle programs. They used to be able to sell playing time, different systems, and their facilities weren't that far behind. Now the top programs play freshmen readily, employ the same wide open offenses, and have football buildings with juice bars, hyberbaric chambers, barbers, and more.

I think you're right that it's damaging the sport, but I don't think it has anything to do with it being less competitive.

Talented guys less willing to play defense growing up and parents less willing to play football at all cause of injury risk

Every time I've seen Temple this year the young QB has looked better and the receivers are always open. Very impressive team overall.

Texas Tech scored 17 poinits in the last 4:20 of the Texas, even with a second string QB, but they kill themselves with penalties. 123 in penalties per game, 123 in penalty yards per game. And they kill themselves week after week with targeting penalties. And it's the same guys getting called for targeting over and over. Just proves to me what I've believed for years--Kingsbury is not head coach material.

And I disagree targeting is causing any damagre to college football. Every safety rule that comes along there is a segment of coaches who claim it is damaging the game. Started when Teddy Roosevelt had to step in and force colleges to institute safety measures. I heard the same nonsense when the fair catch came in, when grabbing the face mask came in, when the head slap was outlawed. And yet every time such a rule was instituted football got more popular.

The only problem with the targeting rule is that some players are such morons they can't remember the rule even though it has been in effect from the time current players were in Pop Warner league.

Clemson is number two and is still underrated. That defense is ferocious.

USC and Miami are the same team--filled with great athletes who put out effort when they feel like it and are more interested in talking and gesturing and calling attention to themselves than helping the team win a game. That little fit thrown by the USC linebacker late in the game that gave Cal a killer first down was the perfect example. The guy got beat because he gave no effort, so he kept talking and yelling at the Cal sideline to prove to the crowd how tough he was until the official threw the flag. And the coaching staff left him in the game. No wonder the players feel like they can do whatever they feel like doing.

Arkansas has played better every game since Morris told one of his players who pulled a moron play to keep walking and threw him off the sidelines.

The Mountain West is the most underrated conference in the country. Nevada, Utah State, Fresno, and Boise are all tough outs. Add in SD State if they hadn't had so many injuries.

This season has proved again that college football is the greatest sport in the world. Nothing like sitting back and watching one great game after another on a fall day.

who wouln't like that?!

Amazing. I would think Narduzzi stays, right? What place is a better fit. It just works.......Always liked that team

Reminds me of Tulane....with competence and vision and BALLS to stay in a conference

I feel like as an LSU fan I can speak to this the most......Being same Conf then Div as Bama

Sugar Bowl a real possibility, and it still feels a lil off....

Well said on Miami/USC...

Coast to coast.....feel like the SAME program. They get players, but NO team ones.......some will get drafted and be great. But I like these teams are good....

The Tulane/ECU score was deceiving. ECU had good yardage and moved the ball. A ECU FG was taken off board due to penalty (right before halftime as I recall). It was a game ECU could have won.

Why do I say this?

I think UH kick ass versus Tulane in Houston. UH coming off a couple losses to SMU and Temple and in this spot may destroy Tulane.

UH -10 seems attractive?

Interested in others' thoughts, if you have any you'd care to share about the Tulane @ UH game.

Biggest question to me is whether UH defense have the discipline to stop the option all game long

I did not see a down, was on plane. I got UH -7.5 b4 we took off. I guess it went well
