Belmont Park opens Friday

From Nyra site :

A total of 40 stakes worth $10.6 million including two “super” Saturdays, fan-centric activities throughout the meet and low-roller handicapping tournaments on Saturdays are just a few of the highlights as thoroughbred racing returns to Belmont Park for its 38-day fall championship meet, which runs from Friday, September 11 through Sunday, November 1.

The lead up to the Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships begins with the first of two spectacular days of world-class stakes racing on September 26, featuring the Grade 1, $600,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic and the Grade 1, $400,000 Vosburgh, along with Grade 1, $400,000 Beldame, the Grade 2, $300,000 Gallant Bloom Handicap and the Grade 3, $200,000 Pilgrim. Off track, there will be family fun activities for kids of all ages.
October 3 at Belmont Park is Super Saturday, featuring the Grade 1, $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup. The 1 ¼ mile Gold Cup, which offers automatic entry and a fees-paid trip to the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland, will be supported by the Grade 1, $500,000 Flower Bowl Invitational, the Grade 1, $500,000 Champagne, the Grade 1, $400,000 Frizette, the Grade 2, $400,000 Kelso Handicap and the Grade 3, $500,000 Hill Prince.
October 3 is also Fabulous Fillies Day at Belmont Park, with events and activities focusing attention on Breast Cancer awareness and early detection. Additional “family fun” activities are planned in Belmont’s backyard, with a food truck festival providing fans with many of New York’s favorite mobile cuisine.
The spotlight will shine on the Empire State on Saturday, October 24, when the top New York-breds gather at Belmont Park to complete in eight stakes races worth $1.75 million, highlighted by the $300,000 Empire Classic at 1 1/8 miles. Belmont Park also will host Taste New York featuring local New York wines, spirits and food, along with craft vendors, fall-themed family activities and the return of College Day, in which area students can compete for prizes and win scholarships.
Every Saturday at Belmont, guests will be able to experience the thrill of live-money tournament play for just $40 with the return of the popular “low-roller” tournaments. The breakdown of the entry fee is as follows: $10 goes to the prize pool – with 70 percent to be awarded to the first-place finisher, 20 percent to second, and 10 percent to third – and the remaining $30 comprises the entrant’s bankroll.
On October 30 and 31, fans can watch and wager on all the Breeders’ Cup action at Belmont Park and the simulcast center at Aqueduct Racetrack, with live racing action at Belmont to include the Grade 3, $200,000 Turnback the Alarm for fillies and mares on the turf on Friday and the Grade 3, $200,000 Bold Ruler at seven furlongs on Saturday. Saturday will also offer Oktoberfest, featuring chili and beer, and a haunted house and other Halloween activities for children.
Live racing is generally conducted Wednesdays through Sundays, with first race post time at 12:55 p.m. General parking is free, and admission to Belmont Park is $5. For more information, please visit NYRA.com.

Some good races coming up @ Woodbine:

Ricoh Woodbine Mile Gr. I – Sunday, September 13
Northern Dancer Turf Gr. l– Sunday, September 13
Pattison Canadian International Gr. I – Sunday, October 18
E.P. Taylor Stakes Gr. l –Sunday, October 18
Nearctic Stakes Gr. II – Sunday, October 18

Sad to see Wise Dan retired. Was hoping he could give the Woodbine and Breeder's Cup Miles one more go.

On the other hand, excited to hear that the Pharoah is in training for the Breeders Cup Classic. If Mandella can be talked into running Beholder it would be a huge matchup:

Pharoah
Beholder
Liam's Map
Honor Code
Keen Ice
Tonalist
Noble Bird

Pharoah has no chance against those horses, after his lengthy exhausting bid this year, he sadly will have no shot against older horses. Hope he makes me eat my words that I know put in writing.

From a betting stand point, I would've been against AP even if he did win the Travers, tough campaign as mentioned and now facing older for the first time.

With Liam's Map entered he will need to go back to being tactical, and I personally don't know if he will finish top 3 despite being an amazing horse and one we may never see again. Simply too much in one year, and to face older is a HUGE jump in class versus the same 3 year old group he has continuously beat time and time again.

Last year's 3 year old crop showed it was head and shoulders above their elders, running 1st thru 6th in the Classic. But right now only Tonalist looks like he might return for this year's Classic. So I'm not sure what we have quite yet in 3 vs 4.

Angel Castillo aboard Interchange (second from left), loses his whip but winds up with the whip of Pierre Hernandez Ortega, rider of Distant Thoughts

From Nyra site:

Star-studded fields for Super Saturday's six graded stakes are beginning to take form for an action-packed day of racing on October 3 at Belmont Park, including four stakes as part of the Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" Challenge Series, headlined by the 97th running of the Grade 1, $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup.

Last year's Jockey Club Gold Cup championTonalist is expected to take on five challengers when he attempts to defend his title and earn a berth in the 2015 Breeders' Cup Classic, facing a mix of familiar rivals in Effinex, Wicked Strong and Coach Inge, as well as a pair of relative newcomers to the division in Constitution and Looks to Spare.

Tonalist, who also upset California Chrome's bid for the Triple Crown in last year's Grade 1 Belmont, went on to finish fifth in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Classic, closing out his sophomore year with four wins from eight starts. Trained by Christophe Clement for Robert S. Evans, the bay son of Tapit has made most of the major dances on the NYRA circuit this summer, turning in runner-up finishes in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap and in the Grade 2 Suburban. Tonalist most recently finished third in the Grade 1 Whitney on August 8 at Saratoga.

Last year's Jim Dandy winner and Travers runner-up Wicked Strong, who lost rider Rajiv Maragh when he clipped heels with another horse in last year's Jockey Club Gold Cup, and Suburban hero Effinex are probable for trainer Jimmy Jerkens.

Trainer Todd Pletcher is likely to saddle a pair of contenders in Grade 2 Brooklyn victor Coach Inge and Grade 1 Donn Handicap winner Constitution.

O'zbekiston Racing's Looks to Spare, a 74-1 longshot winner in the West Virginia Governor's Stakes, is also expected to join the mix for trainer Otabek Umarov.

Trainer Chad Brown is likely to saddle a trio of accomplished runners in the Grade 1, $500,000 Flower Bowl at 1 ¼ miles on the inner turf course. Brown's contingent is comprised of Dacita, the Chilean-bred 4-year-old who most recently won the Grade 2 Ballston Spa at Saratoga in his first start in North America, along with multiple graded stakes winner Stephanie's Kitten, who finished second in the Grade 1 Beverly D at Arlington Park to stablemate Watsdachances.

Hall of Famer Bill Mott is pointing Grade 3 Glens Fall winner White Rose toward the race for owners Jake Ballis and Rashard Lewis as well America, for owner Bobby Flay, who last out ran to a fifth-place finish in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign.

Also expected for the race is Irish-bred Mutatis Mutandis who will be making his first start in North America for trainer Ed Walker and Chasemore Farm, while Glens Falls runner-upEastern Belle and Photo Call remain possible entrants from the barn of trainer Graham Motion.

Multiple graded stakes winner and current divisional candidate for older male horse of the year Honor Code is likely to headline the Grade 2, $400,000 Kelso at one mile. Opting for the Kelso instead of the Jockey Club Gold Cup at 1 ¼ miles, Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey is hoping to use the race as a final prep before a potential start in the Breeders' Cup Classic. Honor Code would be returning to the one-turn distance at which he impressively won the Grade 2 Metropolitan Handicap in June before going on to capture the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga.

Shipping back east from California, where he finished third in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic at Del Mar, and also expected to cut back in distance for the Kelso is Red Vine for trainer Christophe Clement. Probable to try dirt for the first time is Al Shaqab Racing's Mshawish, who last out finished fifth on the grass last time out in the Grade 2 Fourstardave for Todd Pletcher; Vyjack, who has made his last three starts on the turf, is also likely to make a return to the surface where he was a multiple graded stakes winner as a 3-year-old.

Trainer Kiaran MacLaughlin will point Shadwell Stable's Tarmarkuz, who most recently finished fifth in the Grade 1 Forego at seven furlongs. Trainer Michael Hushion is expected to enter Watchel Stable's Scarly Charly, who last out finished second by a nose in the Tale of the Cat at Saratoga on August 23.

Two-year-olds will be vying for berths in their respective Breeders' Cup divisions as well in the Grade 1, $500,000 Champagne and the Grade 1, $400,000 Frizette for juvenile fillies, both at a mile.

Reddam Racing's Ralis, dominating winner of the Grade 1 Hopeful on closing day at Saratoga Race Course, heads the contenders for the venerable Champagne, which will be run for the 145th time. The homebred son of Square Eddie, trained by Doug O'Neill, is 2-1-0 from five career starts, having broken his maiden in June at Santa Anita Park.

Also pointing to the Champagne are Sunny Ridge, winner of the Sapling at Monmouth Park, and recent maiden winners Greenpointcrusader, Rafting, Ready Dancer, Sail Ahoy and Tale of S'avall, with Hopeful runner-up Magna Light and Berb's Majesty, three-length maiden winner at Parx Racing last time out, possible.

Nirvana Stables' She's All Ready, who has won both her starts facing New York-breds by a combined margin of 11 ¼ lengths, tops the list of probables for the Frizette, which is in its 67th edition. Lining up to face the winner of the restricted Seeking the Ante at Saratoga likely will be maiden winners Desert Tune, Nickname, Where's the D and Width, along Anna Rae, fourth in the Grade 1 Spinaway at the Spa, Nemoralia a winner of two of her four starts, and possibly Delicate Lady, third in the Grade 2 Adirondack last time out.

The Grade 3, $500,000 Hill Prince is expected to feature many of the top 3-year-old turf specialists including a veritable rematch of the top finishers from this summer's Grade 3 Saranac at the Spa.

Saranac winner World Approval, who also won the Grade 3 American Derby this summer at Arlington, is probable for trainer Mark Casse. Chad Brown is expected to send Saranac runner-up Money Multiplier while Lamplight winner Nonna's Boy, fourth in the Saranac, is likely for Todd Pletcher.

Courtier, winner of the Centaur at Indiana Grand on September 9, is expected for Bill Mott. Japanese-bred Tale of Life is probable for his second North American start for Graham Motion and David Donk is expected to saddle Woodhaven winner Vision Perfect.

Grade 2 Del Mar Derby runner-up Royal Albert Hall is a possible West Coast invader for Doug O'Neill. Irish-bred Mister Brightside is also possible for his U.S. debut for trainer Jeremy Noseda.

I been throwing some change on these favorites in this slop too just nudging the account up a little

Looking at a big price in today's Phoenix Stakes , R8 at Keeneland #3
Maybe not as good as these but with a lot of early speed signed on here should get a nice setup, owns a win over a sloppy track at Kee

Kee R8 Win #3, just a stab

Belmont Park Saturday 10/3 expecting only R6 and R9 to remain on turf, and Drfgrening mentioned about R6 possibly moving from Inner to Widener Turf.

Bel R1 not a great betting race...1,3,5,6 look like the contenders
#1 is out of great firster sire and trainer is having a solid meet, half to 3 winners but 1ster breaking on rail on off track could be up against it today.
#3 is top selection, a good 2nd in debut vs a contender later today in Champagne, should improve today.
#5 a firster for McLaughlin off a very solid work 9/26, McLaughlin has won with 53% of his dirt firsters over the last 6 months.
#6 is a wild card, treat him as a 1ster as his debut was on turf.

R2 the MTO's obviously have to be looked at...#3 looks to be the speed, #8 could be a player early with his speed and likes a wet track, #6 has also run well on wet tracks, #7 is certainly a contender for red hot Jason Servis...#10 may scratch as he's never raced on dirt before, but if he stays in I'm interested, dirt breeding is there as dam is Smuggler and 2nd dam is Inside Information.

R3 #2 is off a layoff but takes a big class drop, #3 looks to be the main controlling speed and loves Belmont 11-5-3-1, I'm against #4...Trainer is great off the claim but he won't have the setup he needed when winning two back, don't like horses claimed from Jacobson. #7 is Jacobson off the claim going turf to dirt with is a very strong move.

R4: #7 is drawn nicely on outside, moves up in class and Chad does great work (35% last 5 years) with dirt routers off a win, but will be a short price and was a perfect trip winner in last. I'm interested in #5 at 12-1 ML, last was on turf, poor ride two back, prior three efforts make him a contender, should get a good pace to run at.

R5 #2 is obvious contender and one to beat, may not get enough pace in what is his prep for BC Classic...looking at #4,5,6 as possible up setters.

R6 #1 is a player and should be used , #8 looks very dangerous exiting a couple of great Group 1 efforts, in her last she was wide and made a nice stretch run vs 1st and 2nd place finishers that were 2nd and 1st all the way around. #7 goes Synthetic to turf, winner of last was an Arc prospect who has decided to wait two weeks and run at Ascot, prior two tries were in Group 1 and 2 races, before that won racing counter clockwise, same as she'll be racing today (LH turns), addition of Lasix may help.
