Do Non-Steeler Fans Know Tomlin Sucks?

Adam Thielen picked up on waivers today.

Rodgers and Thielen are the oldest active quarterback and receiver in the NFL, respectively.
 
I honestly think Tomlin is solid. He's going to have a solid squad, but the QB is 40 years old. How about you bring him a QB that is decent?
 
He said something in his presser that was very poignant. At least to me.

“That’s why you go do BUSINESS with a guy like Aaron for thick days like this.”

One thing that's changed under Tomlin is the Steelers have become a team of mercenaries, especially at the offensive skill positions.

Rodgers
Metcalf, Thielen, Valdez-Scantling
Gainwell
Jonnu Smith

Meanwhile, this year's 3rd round RB is in the doghouse. Last year's 3rd round WR is in the doghouse. They gave up on their 2022 2nd round WR. Their 2022 4th round WR gets about two targets a game. Their 2021 2nd round TE has been passed on the depth chart by a 311-pound TE that Rodgers prefers. And their 2022 1st round QB is trying to latch onto his fourth team.

Also throw in that most of their secondary was not home grown: Clark, Dugger, Echols, Peppers, Ramsey and Samuels are all from other teams. Castro and Pierre were UDFAs. Only Porter Jr. was a Steelers draft pick. That's weird because Tomlin made his first real impression in coaching as a DB coach. One would think he would be good at coaching up that position instead of relying on so many established veterans.

They have plenty of drafted offensive linemen but that unit is leading the team to a 29th ranking in rushing.

They have for the most part good players at DL and Edge/LB, but their best defensive lineman was drafted 14 years ago.

For decades the Steelers prided themselves on the drafting ability and developing talent from within. For many positions those days appear to be gone.
 
I firmly believe that holding on to Ben for at least two years too long has trickled down into this. It doesn't seem like they have any real clear path to restocking the cabinet and and long as they continue to finish at the back end of the playoffs and draft 16-20ish I don't know how they improve that.

Kevin Colbert was generally good for a really long time...but his last few years with the team were a train wreck
 
I still don't think much of Tomlin as a coach but I probably shouldn't comment as a fan of a team coached by the biggest moron in the history of not just football but all sports.

It’ll be another first round exit. Rinse and repeat. They are getting hot at the end of the season which is different for a Tomlin team. They’ve also gotten some fortunate referee decisions go their way but that’s just the way it goes sometimes

He just beat a roster twice as good as his with an opposing QB five times better than his without his best weapon to throw to. No way to sugar coat it .... you either have to give Tomlin credit or absolutely rip Harbaugh.

Harbaugh should be ripped as should Tomlin. They are both not very good NFL coaches at this point in history. Great careers, unreal leaders of men…not currently good NFL coaches.

Nobody mentioned the Steelers guy jumping over the center on the missed FG last night? How every official misses that is hilarious, but even more hilarious is Tomlin celebrating the way he did after the game knowing they should have lost to begin with AND they got gifted a non-call that is supposed to have been a huge focus in the game (and impacted at least 2 other games this year).

I missed how he jumped it but Brian Breese has done it twice so far legally and blocked em and not been called.
 
Tomlin and John Harbaugh have both won Super Bowls back in 09 for MT and 2012 for JH but that was a long time ago yet both continue to hang on for so many years.

It reminds me of Marvin Lewis who had some good years in Cinci but nothing extraordinary but managed to hang on for more than a decade despite not having won a playoff game for most of his final years as coach there.

Rodgers is WHY they had no timeouts left lol

Won in spite of a very poor 3.5 quarters from him including the last play of the first half

No I don't think it did that at all lol. He ran out of time on the final timeout. Think there's more than simple play calling going on in those headsets. Doubt you can convince me he doesn't have all the power to audible like all reasonably good QBs do.

Then why did he look lost w/o helmet communication for a few plays in a fire drill and when they got close down there?

If he's not treated like Tom or Peyton he's not playing for Pittsburgh. I'm very confident of that. Who knows why he looked lost. If you think he signed on in Pittsburgh to let Arthur Smith call games for him I'm not going to convince you otherwise so I'll leave it there.

I would’ve thought him in that company. In fact, talent wise when he was on he was the best. He could flick it.
Just color me shocked he needed a helmet to run that

I think at that point they could have been talking strategy for the next couple plays, etc. We don't really know. I think the communication shuts off w/10 secs on the play clock so he kinda just lost control of the situation there it looked like to me.
 
Listened to the Rodgers presser after the game. He said his helmet wasnt working and he didn’t want to call his own play due to time remaining. He burned one TO goes to the sideline and gets a new helmet. Rudolph is like take my wristband that has plays on it but he doesn’t like wearing them and says no. Goes onto the field runs a play and the second helmet is not working so he had to burn the third TO.
