Coaching Carousel 2024

My guy said Bronco had 3 interviews this weekend. Dampier was going to stay at UNM if Bronco stayed. Dampier just hit the portal.

Also that move means the new P12 is going to land more than one big piece as a football conference

Bronco ain't moving without the intel

Welcome to the big leagues Montana schools

That's my guess....and they are equipped for it much more than some of the randoms trying to make the leap

The UNM oc is going to Utah looks like. Man the state of Utah just no lubed UNM today.

Will take this a step further

Pac 12 is doing what has long been in the works...a consolidation of the best FCS teams in the country

Do not be surprised when S Dakota St/NDSU/USD/N Dakota/EWU/Sac St/UNI/Ill St....possibly No Colorado all fall in line with this new league. There will be millions of watchers even when they aren't in the creamy markets that big tv loves....it's some of the best football in the country and is just about to get rich....and keep Oregon St and Wazzu relevant

That kid was gonna cash in, no doubt. But he and his family loved ABQ.
If P12 are smart they snag up UNM. ABQ is a massive emerging market and they have the built in infrastructure. This West Coast conference movement is going to be a huge story me thinks....and UNM wants a taste of it.

UNM wants it, but the P12 wants no part of a bottom 5 FBS program that averages 15,000 people a game. The rest of the programs compete, no doubt. But the main one doesn't. That's the problem.

I'm trying not to go Field of Dreams here but they will come if they end up in the best conference on this side of the Rockies

You'll see 15k turn into 35k if they build this the way I think they should

Bronco took the sure thing so it's not like UNM are on the map yet

But they should be

Pretty sure Sumrall will be announced Monday but we shall see
What's crazy is if this plays out like I think it will, UNM will be a much better gig than Utah St

Bronco is going for the sure thing and I think that's a losing proposition

I think Sumrall will be a solid hire for us and hopefully some of his staff and players follow

Boise St
Wash St
Fresno
OSU
SDSU
CSU

I'd argue Utah St is the worst job in the new PAC.

I'll be shocked if the Mountain West doesn't fold in the next couple of years

It's basically a shell company at this point

It's a farm system at this point. All the group of 5 is.

Re: UNC

A source has confirmed that the intention is for the new head coach to be in place by Sunday. That's an important timeline given the transfer portal opens on Monday.

Inside Carolina broke the news on Thursday that six-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick was one of the candidates who had interviewed with the search committee that Cunningham put together.

Key names UNC is eying at the college level include Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall, Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann, UNC tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens and Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell.

Purdue’s AD has kept a lid on all things so the only concrete info I’ve been able to get a hold of that I trust is the coach will be announced by Monday at the latest and it’s someone coaching this weekend.

damn near every name coaching has been leaked as “the guy” at this point so I don’t have a clue

Helton is the most obvious as the runner up whom should’ve been hired last time around but I don’t think it’s him
Chuck Martin has been leaked
Jeff Traylor has been leaked
Monken has been leaked
Chadwell has been leaked
Campbell has been leaked as the top target but no way in hell that happens
Huff more or less begged for it but no way

All I know is Purdue can’t screw this one up

Someone in the know says Kentucky might make a push. Sumrall played there……hadn’t thought of that one. Wow that would be something

Oh no I just read that Belichick won't consider the Jets. There are also rumors of UNC interest in Steve Wilks which is quite gross.

I feel like it's important to cap the universe at times as opposed to just capping college sports

North Carolina in general is a massive place on the planet...UNC/Durham/NCSt are all jobs that are big time if you care about the real world. Charlotte will likely be the next big city in 20 years. So planting your seed on tobacco road is brilliant right now.

Don't be shocked when UNC-C and Queens become big time players in college sports

Some of the best football is played in the Dakotas, but there won't be millions watching those teams play, a few hundred thousand maybe. It is a weird part of the country without much national appeal to viewers outside the region. Some of those others schools are not moving up. I get what you are saying about how the PAC 12 has to do something out of the box to get it going and grow from it. But the Dakotas are the only ones that make sense in terms of any kind of following that might register coupled with good football. Schools like EWU, UNI, Ill St they would be happy to play in a Big Sky or MVFC they might actually be able to win again. And if moves are being made, it is more likely No Colorado would drop to Dll

You don't understand the motion of money

There will be an insane amount of people watching

It's a glorified MWC and I think about the same amount of people will watch it. But I certainly don't want to argue about it because TV ratings aren't something I actually know. It is niche football though, whoever the good group of 5 or whatever they call those teams now, they are niche teams and get a fraction of the viewers the power teams do. One thing is for sure there will always be movement of some sort somewhere. How it pans out is anyone's guess.

I’m not totally sold yet but enough smoke to atleast mention that Odom might be Purdues guy. We shall see if it is in fact true tomorrow . AD had leaked nothing all week but team meeting with the 1 or 2 players left tomorrow at 2pm to announce the coach whomever it is.

Let's break some of this down

Tell me that the ACC or big12 is better than this mythological conference

So how do we define "better"? It is subjective and personal, in the eye of the beholder. A PAC 12 loaded with the best MWC teams, the Dakota schools as you suggest (I really really do not think those other teams you mentioned have a chance at all to go PAC 12). But yeah, it's good...what is it up against on TV? What is the competition? Is South Dakota State vs Oregon State going to out draw Texas Tech and West Virginia? No it won't. So if we are talking millions of people watching a reborn PAC 12 with these MWC teams and these far north Dakota schools that people don't care about nationally, it isn't going to move the needle. I'm sorry to disagree.

UCF - Iowa State got 526k viewers. South Dakota State - North Dakota State, by far the two biggest brands in FCS and exactly who we are talking about in this hypothetical PAC 12 - when they played the same week, they got 174k people watching.

What is better football doesn't mean the country will tune in. A lot goes into it.

And that Dakota Marker game this year was on ESPN 2. ACC and Big Xll are going to outdraw PAC 12 in viewers in just about every imaginable matchup. More people care, more people in those markets. It is bigger brands. That is what matters in viewership.
