For those who don't feel like searching through the thread, here are my week 1 plays. All the supporting info can be found throughout the thread if you have a few hours (or days) to kill.

Week 1 Card (Any juice I paid is noted in the thread)
USC -19.5 (road fav)
NW -12 (home fav)
Rice -2.5 (home fav) WINNER 56-27
Pitt -12 (home fav)
Wisky -26.5 (home fav)
Troy -4 (road fav) WINNER 31-17
Tenn -6 (road fav)
Arkie St +21.5 (road dog???)
FAU +24.5 (road dog???)
KANSAS TT O44.5

Just like in year's past, I am gonna keep track of how I do in each of the key categories (HF, RF, HD, RD) so that I can get a read on where my strengths and opportunities lie. I have never really been any good at totals really, so decided to lay off the team totals and game totals I was considering as they just aren't my strong point, so not gonna try and go against what I know works for me (so why in the heck am I playing on the Red Wolves as a dog???).

Still debating the Kansas play as a part of me is hoping for a Dr Bob play on FIU so I can get the Jayhawks at under 35, but really I am just doing as much reading as I can to get a feel for just how improved this FIU team will be this year. Also trying to get a feel for the mindset of KU and whether or not they will go for the jugular in the 2H of this one. Best of luck to everyone this year, as the discussion this summer has been great, and I appreciate all the insight everyone dropped into the thread.

Just remember, one week does not a season make, as this is a marathon not a sprint, so stay focused on money management, don't chase, and keep your eyes on the goals and checkpoints you have established for yourself prior to that first kickoff on Thursday.

Been outta town for a few days and come back to find out that the BM lines for week 1 are already out, so figured we could get some discussion going around these real lines. I have decided to only roll with the Greek this year, so I can't take advantage of any of these, but in subsequent posts, I will list my fav plays based on where the lines currently stand.

Also, from what I have heard, there was so pretty quick line movement on a number of these, so keep that in mind as well.

Looking forward to a great season of discussing cfb with you guys yet again this year!

The plays below are what I would lock in right now if I was going to roll with BM for cfb this year. Again, I am only using the Greek so hoping their lines don't come out until my money is locked and loaded in the account, as many of my leans below are contingent on the Greek coming out with similar lines.

Thursday
Miami Ohio -1

Friday
Rice -3
Temple -4.5 maybe (opened at 3, quickly shot up, may end up at 6 tho?)

Saturday
Kansas -39
Wyoming -9 maybe (depends on QB situation working itself out in Aug)
Indiana -21 maybe (didn't think this would be lined at first)
Cal -5.5 maybe (thought it would be higher, so close to a variance play)
Tulsa -14 maybe (same as Cal)

Any thoughts from the SEC guys as to why Miss State is only laying 9.5 to La Tech? Haven't done any looking into that matchup yet, but the line struck me as odd at first glance.

Thanks for the heads up CB. I just chatted with these fuckers on Thursday night and they said the early August. So I pushed a little more and asked, the first week of August? And they said probably, so I pushed more and asked the first weekend of August? and they said probably.

So somehow that became the last weekend in July evidently.

Anyway, I just took a position on Wyoming -9 about 2 minutes ago. Its really just more of a wager than a position as there isn't much that could transpire in the next 5 weeks (save for a move above 14) that cause me to attempt a middle.

One of the parameters I set up for betting early like this is I ask myself: is there an injury of suspension that could occur between now and gametime that would dissuade me from liking this side? In this case, there is not. Wyoming isn't relying on any one person or personnel group. Its possible the line could move down I suppose...I'm really not a great line reader, but I think at less than a TD and FG this one has to be tried. Afterall, on the road last year they were down by 3 TDs and still won, so starting the game down 0-9 in theory shouldn't be insurmountable.

Another parameter I try to set up is: what is the likelihood of getting a better line between now and gametime? I'm not a great anticipator, but I think this one has to go up. So if its going up and there isn't a reason I wouldn't want to bet it, then I will take it immediately and that is just what I did.

Scratch my lean on Indiana by the way. Too much uncertainty with Kellen Lewis missing spring practice and having to play catch up a bit next month. I think WKU is gonna be a scrappy team, but they are definitely gonna get a wake up call with the schedule they face this year. Just don't like this opening spot for IU though as I could see them winning something like 37-17, so not worth the risk IMO.

Kinda like Miss State laying 9.5 at first glance but have some work to do before I consider it a lean. Also am intrigued by the UNLV line at 12.5 as I thought it could be closer to 16 or so. Again, more work to do there as well as I don't have enough info on the Rebs just yet.

From 5Dimes

Matt: Good Afternoon. How may I assist you?
Me: I just noticed that www.bookmaker.com has their Week 1 College Football lines up. When are you guys planning on releasing your lines?
Matt: let me ask sir
Matt: ok sir, the Wagering Dept. tells me that, they expect to have such lines out by late this evening, or tomorrow the latest
Me: ok great thank you very much

We cybered for awhile after the initial question but I didn't think it was necessary to include that in the copy & paste

Yeah, completely understand what you are saying about Wyoming and think it is a good call. I may jump on it if it comes out under 10 at The Greek, and my cash is credited prior to them releasing lines. I just hope the Cowboys lock in on a starter early in fall practice so they don't end up doing a 2 man deal as those things almost never work (believe me, I have seen it far too often being a Heels fan haha).

On a side note, I haven't played anything yet, as I always fund the Greek with cashier's check since it is the easiest method for me when it comes to the amount of funds I deal with when I do my annual cfb deposit. The only pain with it is it takes a while sometimes for them to process and credit the account. Just hoping it gets in prior to them opening their week 1's. They told me to keep an eye out at the end of this week for the crediting of my funds and the week 1 lines, so should work out ok.

Good to see you coming over to the dark side by the way (otherwise known as the land of the favorites haha). Best of luck this season!

Thanks for the heads up DS. That might mean that the Greek may be close behind. Sucks for me as my money won't be in the account till the end of this week ugh!

I just took some positions.

wyoming -9.5
tcu -5.5
temple -4.5

Will be betting kentucky but figured if it moves to 4.5 or 5 no biggie. will wait and see if it hits a 6.

Talk to me about TCU. I haven't even looked at that game yet, thanks.

Man, there is no worse feeling that having lines right in front of your face but not having the account funded yet to play em haha.

CB, how long ago did you send your check? I just sent one this past week and was wondering how long it took to get into the account because it was the first time I have deposited that way.

cliff notes version

TCU reloading at defensive line. UNM returning 14 starts to their offensive line. Impossible matchup for unm line.

unm 5 returning to each side of the ball.

tcu out firstdowned them 23-6 last year.
return 52 ol starts from last year vs 10 starts returning from last year for unm dl

TCU best offensive weapon was injured all last year , rb aaron brown. returns and with that line should be good. The returning wr for unm have a combined 47 catches last year as they lost their top 2 from last years team. No time to throw, no established timing with current receivers and you cant run on tcu. Patterson is simply a master of stopping the run.

Tcu historically owns unm
.

Kyle, you and I just pile drove and bitch slapped that Wyoming line. I moved it from 9 up to 9.5, you moved it to 10. Others better get on it quick...unless they want Ohio. LOL

I jumped on Wyoming and Temple cause yall are running the lines up...lol Those are two of my favs in week one!!!

I'll be honest, you guys probably know a lot more than I do, but these are the ones I will look into.

Buffalo -3
Miami -1
Temple -4.5
W Mich +13.5
N Illinois +10
Fresno St +5.5

I am pissed about a few of these. Tennessee is off my prospective plays list at 7. Even if it were to come back down to 6.5 I would have a really tough time pulling the trigger and in fact I don't think I could.

Western Michigan is grossly over-valued at only 13.5, but just the same I'm not interested in taking Nebraska. Same deal for ULL at only 12.5. So much for catching the books napping on some of the mid-majors. You can see why its almost always beneficial to play favorites in the first couple weeks, as the books refuse to open themselves up to sharp action on the "lesser known" teams.

At over 4 TDs Florida is totally out as a consideration, even though I won't blink any eye if it ends 66-13. Its one of those games for big chalk eaters only. Its a game where "I know I should play this because its a winner, but on principle I won't."

USC is currently 20.5. I am barely interested there and won't be at all if it hits 21. USC could hold the Hoos scoreless, but when you are a big favorite you actually have to score (and score a lot) to cover.

I wouldn't be caught dead playing Buffalo as a favorite even though i do think they are equal to or better than UTEP.

I will likely be on utep moneyline. Important money game for the school.

i think it is worth waiting with w michigan. MAC teams got 0 support at the window last year in ooc games. I pulled the trigger on temple only because the opponent was army. Big alumni schools like nebraska will get money. I am looking ahrd at playing w michigna as well.

Suprised at the 5.5 for fresno ..... preseason darling for that game like utah at michigan. Adjusted for one but not the other.

Heads up for those of you with money in 5Dimes

Right now, they have the lines for their "office pool" but not available for individual games yet. In those office pool lines TCU is -3.5

Their lines are opening late tonight or early tomorrow AM so if it comes out at -3.5 jump on it early if you like the Frogs

I don't trust UK...think it could be a DD win for UL after these distractions with Pulley and all.

At first glance gotta like NC State, Nebraska, Oregon, UCLA...not real excited about any of them though.

Don't really like this Week 1 card, not only from a bettor's perspective but a fan's perspective as well...

That's real close to saying you're not excited about college football starting. Sure you don't have Georgia vs. Florida type games all day on Aug 30 but I'd watch Florida International play Bowling Green every day for the next month if I could. I know deep down you would too.

This is the thinking that burned a lot of bettors with UVA traveling to Wyoming last year. I think the Cowboys returned maybe 1-2 guys combined on both lines where the Cavs returned nearly everyone on both.

Some teams just ain't worth a shit on the road, and TCU proved last year they're one of them. One cover on the road (at BYU), a remarkable backdoor that personally still stings to this day. This team clearly lacks leadership on both sides of the ball and to ignore the losses at DE is silly. They return a DL with a whopping 6.5 combined sacks last year, hardly reloading...especially considering none of these guys were even close to being good recruits out of HS.

I am not in love with this UNM team myself but I think they are the only play here, despite the history.

Naw, just not many intriguing games out there. I'm excited about UT/UCLA as I think the new staff puts on a show and we get our second consecutive home doggie special on Labor Day, but other than that, I don't look forward to many of these games (sans UK/UL of course).

Why is it an important game for UTEP? I did look at it a little and probably dropped it from my list, but definitely fill me in.

I will hold off on WMU, but will keep an eye on it.

I think Rutgers might be lost without Rice. However, I do realize that Teel does have good WRs. Good thing I have some time to go over things.

carolinablue,

I think you should reconsider using bookmaker. You have historically hit a great percentage on the college football openers. Why not just put half in bookmaker and half in the Greek? Personally I couldn't see going the season with out a bookmaker account. It would be to painful seeing a game released at -23.5 knowing you like the favorite and by the time the Greek posts it's at -25.

Bookmaker will give you a 25% free play even when you reload your account. I know there fee's are high but the free plays you negotiate upfront should even everything out.

Yup. that wyoming game burned me last year. I have no problem with it ... by seasons end i realized it was one of those games. The value was definitely with virginia there ... wonder what that line would ahve been at end of last year.

Your sack count doesnt take into account the return of a really good dl in vess.....

2007: Sat out the season per a violation of University policy ... started 11 games in 2006 as he totaled 32 tackles with 8.5 for a loss, including four sacks.

Blake was allegedly on the roids last year. He didn't play several games for what they called personal issues or off the field issues. When he finally did play , he was not the same player we had seen previously. The replacement was just as good as blake and he returns with more experience for this year. TCU was 1-4-1 as an away team last year but they had all kinds of problems off the field and if you look at the games it isn't as bad as you would think. They had a late game collapse against Texas , a game that looked like they had a chance to win at halftime leading 10-0. They failed to cover as 9 point dogs. Deceiving score.
AT air force was the worst bad beat i have ever personally had betting college football. TCU dominated but managed to lose outright. They were outplayed by wyoming. They outgained stanford roughly 2-1 while racking up almost 500 yards of offense but only managed a 2 point win as a 6 point fav. AT BYU they went 94 yards near the end of the fourth to get a backdoor cover. At sdsu they won by 12 as a 12.5 pt fav , with a yardage advantage of around 250 yards and 23 more first downs than sdsu. So the ATS record on the road was very misleading, especially as a road favorite.

Also look at what happened offensively for TCU as the offensive line and qb matured last year. They skyrocketed.

Love the bet , jsut worried i might have jumped the gun and got a bad number

Home to Texas Longhorns in game 2. Strong Advertisement campaign for that game this offseason to generate ticket sales and the game loses all luster if UTEP loses to a bottom tier program like Buffalo the week prior. This game is a must win for Mike Price. He will be immediately put on the hot seat with a loss here. Hate to burst some bubbles here , but UTEP recruits better athletes than Buffalo. Why would anyone want to bet Buffalo to win an out of conference game anyway ?? I think they have lost 12 straight games to teams that arent currently in the MAC. No thanks to laying points with them. If you like Buffalo just bet the over , because they have ZERO chance of shutting down the UTEP offense with vittatoe , jackson and moturi behind an improved offensive line. Well abrring weather.

VK...I doubt you did

5Dimes will likely adjust based on line movement at Greek. I'll let you know

Really not much movement recently. I think the members of this forum this afternoon were the only ones that shifted things around. The one interesting move is FIU who dropped from 39 to 38 so somebody out there loves the Golden Panthers. Or at least doesn't love KU enough to think they should lay more than 5 TDs and a FG.

HAHA that's awesome. Someone was just sitting there waiting to pound FIU, the team with 1 win in the last 2 seasons

Sweet lets talk some football and use as many Tombstone references as we can.

Since you are an oregon specialist , want to talk about the washington game ?

I'm not an Oregon specialist per se, but I know more about them than any other team. It would be correct to phrase it that way. I try to be a specialist on all 119.

Not much to talk about in all honesty. I made the line 13.5. Couldn't decide on which side of 14 I wanted to put the hook so I went lower. Turns out that if I had split the diff and just called it an even two TDs I would have had it right. Perfect line to my way of thinking, thus a no play. As far as the season goes, this will be the first time in a long time where the defense will be the team's strength. I am really looking forward to this year for that reason more so than any other. Washington is going to have to outscore folks to get wins as their back 7 has had some position switches, but not as many as the DL has been thru. Problem: its tough to outscore folks when you have a QB who can't aim his gun yet and nobody to catch the bullets even if he could. OL is large, but mediocre in quality. I rate UW around 4-8 and the Ducks at the inverse of that with 8 wins. I would bet the Ducks if forced to, but I'm not forced to, so I won't. Probably about 3% chance of an outright upset, but no numbers to actually back that claim up.
