the real problem here is AD Mike Hamilton.....he is the real f*ckup. I have loved UT all my life, but even I have taken the UT blinders off and realized that UT is going down the shitter.

Lane Kiffin meets with Mike Hamilton (UT AD)

By tidefan, on February 16th, 2009

[Interior: A booth by the window at a Sevierville Waffle House. Mike Hamilton sits alone nervously peeking out the window, obviously waiting for someone. We first hear the exaggerated roar of a motorcycle, then a few seconds later see Lane Kiffin pull up on a Harley Davidson. Lane drops into the booth opposite Hamilton.]

LK: What’s up, bro-Ham. [laughs at his own joke]

MH: Lane, we’ve talked about this. You have to wear a helmet in Tennessee.

LK: Do you think Nick Saban wears a helmet?

MH: I don’t think Nick Saban rides a motorcycle at all.

LK: Damn right. I took his motorcycle.

MH: [sighs] Listen…we’ve got some things we need to discuss.

[a waitress approaches the table to take their order. After a second, she recognizes Hamilton]

waitress: Back so soon, Mike?

MH: [chuckles nervously] Heh heh, just can’t get enough of your coffee, Denise.

LK: I don’t have time for chit-chat, doll. I’ll take the California rolls, extra wasabi.

waitress: Sir, this is Waffle House. We don’t have that. Do you want some more time to look at the menu?

LK: Do you think Urban Meyer orders from the menu? Now, go get me my sushi.

waitress: [Starts to say something]

LK: Why are you still here? Last person that hesitated after I gave them an order was Mike Hamilton and I shot him three times…in the face.

[Waitress just stares at Mike Hamilton in disbelief. He looks at her with apology in his eyes and shakes his head]

MH: He’ll have a double order, scattered, covered and chunked. Just coffee for me.

LK: Yeah, my man here knows what I need and he makes it happen.

[Waitress disappears back behind the counter]

LK: So what the hell are we doing out here in the middle of nowhere?

MH: Too many reporters back at the Athletic Department.

LK: Are you kidding? Dude, I love reporters!

MH: Yeah, about that…

[Waitress comes back with coffee]

LK: How’s that sushi coming?

MH: Lane, you’re having hash browns.

LK: You’re fired.

waitress: Is he talking to you or me?

MH: Nobody is fired. Lane, stop talking.

[Lane grabs a woman walking by]

LK: Hey. Make sure our waitress here doesn’t spit in my sushi. I don’t trust her.

woman: Dude, I don’t work here.

LK: Ha! Ran another one off! These rednecks just can’t handle the intensity. You know what pisses me off?

MH: Couldn’t even begin to fathom, Lane.

LK: We’re sitting in some hillbilly hole in the wall when we could be at a Chik-fil-A, but that whiny-ass Mark Richt got them shut down on Sundays.

MH: That’s not even remotely what happened….[refocuses] nor is it why we’re here. For the love of GOD, just shut up and listen for a minute.

LK: Talking about listening, did you hear that sweet engine on that bike? When are we going to take those training wheels off?

Courtesy of Crimson Daddy - 3sib ©

MH: The training wheels will come off when you demonstrate that you can get out of the parking lot without dumping the bike over.

LK: Oh hey! I’m gonna need a little spending cash this weekend. I’m gonna go hang out at USC with Bryce Brown. Show him how to have a good time in LA, you know what I mean? [whispers] Get him laid…

MH: You’re killing me, Lane. Seriously, I saw my cardiologist yesterday and he blames you.

LK: Your cardiologist needs to quit whining. I’m not here to hold your hand, I’m here to recruit.

MH: You’re here to win games .

LK: If it helps me recruit, you’re damn right I’m going to win games.

MH: The point is to win games, Lane.

LK: You aren’t paying me more than Nick Saban to worry about points.

MH: We aren’t paying you more…[resignedly] you’re right, Lane. Eat your hashbrowns.

Lane Kiffin Accuses Oakland Raiders of Multiple Recruiting Violations | Bleacher Report

Football's favorite whistleblower is at it again.

Tennessee Volunteers head football coach Lane Kiffin announced earlier this morning that the Oakland Raiders (who Kiffin coached in 2007 and part of 2008) are guilty of multiple recruiting violations, and intend to commit more infractions this week.

"I have it on good word that scouts within the Oakland Raiders franchise plan on meeting with several collegiate players in the coming days at something called 'The NFL Combine,'" said Kiffin, speaking at a school-sponsored breakfast. "It's inappropriate for the Raiders to try and steal players from the college ranks, and I hope the NCAA looks into these violations and acts accordingly."

Kiffin said Oakland scouts have specifically targeted wideouts Michael Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin, as well as outside linebacker Aaron Curry. He said the Raiders plan on speaking with all of them over the next week, even asking them to run respective 40-yard dashes so scouts can collect data on their physical health and abilities.

"If the Raiders can talk to these players, what's to stop any NFL team from plucking players from the college ranks?" said Kiffin. "I'm very interested to see how the NCAA handles this news."

Shortly following Kiffin's accusations, the NCAA issued a statement, although it probably wasn't what Kiffin was looking for.

"The Oakland Raiders are not a college team, and it is impossible for an NFL team to commit recruiting violations," said NCAA spokesperson Steven Johnson in an email sent to all major media outlets. "What Mr. Kiffin is referring to is the NFL Combine, which is an opportunity for teams to look at former collegiate athletes in preparation for April's NFL Draft. The combine and draft happen every year, and the players involved no longer play for college football teams."

When asked if he was surprised by Kiffin's remarks—especially since Kiffin used to coach in the NFL—Johnson shrugged his shoulders.

"Well, a college coach claiming the NFL draft is illegal—that's definitely a first," Johnson said. "But this is Lane Kiffin we're talking about—the sky's the limit."

NCAA officials have grown all too familiar with Kiffin's "interpretation" of NCAA guidelines since he took over as Tennessee's head coach.

Kiffin made headlines last week when he mentioned highly coveted prospect Bryce Brown by name on a radio station—a direct violation of NCAA rules. Earlier in the month, Kiffin accused Florida head coach Urban Meyer of "cheating" when Meyer called prospect Nu'Keese Richardson while Richardson was on his official visit to Tennessee. It turns out calling a recruit during a visit to another campus isn't an infraction, and Kiffin later apologized.

But despite popular belief that the NFL Combine and NFL Draft are longstanding and legitimate events, Kiffin isn't dropping his accusations just yet.

"The bottom line is, I'm sure the Raiders would like to see any of these college stars in silver and black, but teams have to play fair," said Kiffin. "I'd love to see top recruit running back Bryce Brown commit to Tennessee, but I have to play by the rules. I know I can't call Bryce Brown when he's visiting another campus (editor's note: he can), and I know that I can't mention Bryce Brown by name on a radio program (editor's note: he can't, but did). Rules are rules."

A peek into recruiting with South Carolina's Jeffrey
March 9, 2009 1:09 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Chris Low
Ever wondered what the night before national signing day is like for a prospect being coveted from the East Coast to the West Coast?
Alshon Jeffrey knows all too well.
<TABLE cellSpacing=4 cellPadding=0 width=203 align=right border=0><TBODY><TR><TD> </TD><TD>
recruit_jeffery10_200.jpg
</TD></TR><TR><TD> </TD><TD align=left>Tom Hauck for ESPN.com</TD></TR><TR><TD> </TD><TD align=left>South Carolina recruit Alshon Jeffrey's last few hours before signing day were intense.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>"You're just glad when it's all over," said Jeffrey, who signed with South Carolina in February after a long, winding recruiting battle that also included Southern California and Tennessee.
Jeffrey, a 6-3, 220-pound receiver, was one of the Gamecocks' most prized recruits in a class that was ranked 12th nationally by Scouts Inc. He was ranked by Scouts Inc. as the No. 12 receiver prospect in the country.
Getting him was important on several different fronts for the Gamecocks. For one, he's the kind of playmaker on offense they desperately need. And two, he's from right down the road in St. Matthews, S.C. South Carolina kept most of the best players from the state at home this year, and landing Jeffrey was a real coup.
He'd been committed to Southern California since last June, and the Trojans remained in it right up until the very end along with Tennessee.
And the end got a little crazy, to say the least.
Everybody knew that Jeffrey had re-opened his recruitment. Alabama tried to get in, and so did Florida. But he wasn't giving much away publicly. He didn't make his announcement until signing day in the Calhoun County High School gym.
The night before, he had a basketball game. His team just recently won its fourth straight state championship, and Jeffrey scored 25 points in the title game.
On the eve of signing day, his football coach, Walter Wilson, sensed that Jeffrey needed to get away from everything and took him to a hotel in nearby Orangeburg, S.C., to stay the night following his basketball game. Also there was one of Jeffrey's high school teammates, Eric Mack, who will be one of the most highly recruited offensive linemen in the country next year.
"I knew I was going to South Carolina, and they knew," Jeffrey said. "But I wasn't ready to say it until the next day."
There was obvious pressure for Jeffrey to stay in state, but he said it never rose to the level of making him uncomfortable.
"It's just what I wanted to do, stay at home and help the home school," he said. "I started looking at it from all different angles and not just football."
There wasn't much sleep that night in the hotel. Jeffrey said his last conversation with South Carolina assistant Shane Beamer, who was recruiting him for the Gamecocks, was around 12:45 a.m. But it was just getting started then.
He was still talking to coaches from Southern California and Tennessee until nearly 3 a.m.
"Alshon knew what he wanted," Wilson said. "He'd turned down a chance to take a visit to Florida late in the process, so I knew that South Carolina was where his heart was. But you sit there and listen to those coaches all work their angles, and you're like, 'I wouldn't want to be in this kid's shoes.'"
Wilson heard it all, too.
As Southern California's Pete Carroll and Tennessee's Lane Kiffin, along with their assistants, did their best to make a final pitch to Jeffrey in the wee hours of that morning, Jeffrey made sure their conversations were on speaker phone. Mack was sitting there listening, too.
"It's a whole different level, and these guys don't give up easily," Wilson said. "I don't blame them. It's what they do. It's how they put bread on their table."
Because he'd been committed to Southern California for so long, Jeffrey said he did inform Carroll that he planned to sign with South Carolina. The Trojans had tried to put the squeeze on Jeffrey earlier in the recruiting process and told him that they were going to pull his offer unless he agreed not to take visits anywhere else.
To make a long story short, Jeffrey took his visits to South Carolina and Tennessee, and the Trojans never quit recruiting him.
"He tried his best to talk me out of it, but my mind was made up," said Jeffrey, who still refers to Carroll as "Pete."
Kiffin was equally dogged. But when it was obvious that Jeffrey wasn't going to Tennessee, Kiffin took off the gloves.
According to Jeffrey and Wilson, Kiffin told Jeffrey that if he chose the Gamecocks, he would end up pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina.
Jeffrey was doing his best to stay awake at that point, but that comment from Kiffin woke him up. He clearly hasn't forgotten it, either.
"He said it, but it's not worth talking about," Jeffrey said.
Wilson was a little more diplomatic. He wrote it off as Kiffin pulling out all of the stops and simply not wanting to concede defeat. Wilson acknowledged that's about as negative as it got that morning.
"It was his last resort. That's all it was," said Wilson, who also attended high school in South Carolina. "When you get pushed against the wall and your back is there, you're going to come out with something. You should have heard coach Carroll. He was wide awake at 3 o'clock in the morning. Remember, he was on West Coast time and fighting to get Alshon to the very end.
"But the war was over at that point."
As things heated up that morning, Wilson shot a quick glance toward Mack, who also heard everything. It was as if to say, "Get ready big boy. This is going to be you next year."
And sure enough, Tennessee assistant coach David Reaves quickly made it known that the Vols weren't going to miss out on Mack next year.
"When you're desperate, you say things you probably don't mean, sort of like a husband and wife when they get mad at each other," Wilson said. "These coaches put so much effort into recruiting these kids. They take it hard when they lose one.
"I wasn't offended, because I know how the game works. That's just how competitive it is. You don't think coach (Nick) Saban isn't competitive? But one of the things I do know about South Carolina is that they take care of their own."

Finally, the cell phones stopped ringing that morning. Jeffrey was able to steal a few hours of sleep, and South Carolina had his signed scholarship papers by 7:30 a.m.
He didn't announce that he was signing with the Gamecocks until later that morning at his school's signing ceremony.
"It was a relief. The stress gets to you a little bit," Jeffrey said. "But the whole experience was a good one. You learn a lot about yourself, and you learn a lot about people."

He better win early and win big because he is giving Tenny a bad name by his lack of intelligence.

It's a good thing most of us know that you're a helluva 'capper...because you are definitely starting to sound DELUSIONAL..................:shake:

you know how they say 'any publicity is good publicity', thats kinda how I feel. Have you or ETG talked about the Vols this much over the last 3-4 years. I highly doubt it. And although hes making himself look bad, he has a proven recruiting record and just landed Oku in the last day or two.

The program needed a spark, and he's obviously giving it to them. Not saying I'd have done it this way, but it's working.

But you have to believe before he gets all those nice shiny HS seniors ready for SEC ball he's going to absorb quite a few 50-14 ass-kickings due to his brash EGO. Can Rocky Top absorb the humiliations and give Lane time to prove he can win with "his boys"? Unless you're Hershel Walker or Bo Jackson you very seldom come into the SEC and dominate as a true frosh........:shake:

I like it..bring it, he has nothing to lose. Tenn. been gettin they ass whopped enough.

UT QB BREAKS WRIST

Posted by John Taylor on March 8, 2009, 6:19 p.m.
Nick Stephens is expected to be part of a three-way fight for the Volunteers starting quarterback spot this fall.
If that’s indeed the case, he may have some ground to make up as the Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that Stephens has suffered a broken wrist in his right (throwing) hand. The injury, the paper says, is expected to keep Stephens out of at least the first half of Tennessee’s spring practice, which begins this coming Tuesday.
The injury will put Stephens behind the QB eight ball for three to four weeks.
There are no details available as to exactly how Stephens injured the wrist, a fact that could raise more than a few eyebrows given how Lane Kiffin and his football program have stumbled and bumbled their way through the head coach’s first recruiting season.
Stephens was Tennessee’s highest-rated passer last season, but is expected to receive his staunchest challenge from senior Jonathan Crompton.
Sophomore B.J. Coleman could also nudge his way into position for the starting job/playing time.

Only thing I'm pissed about is that Lane told Tahj Boyd to decommitt and he went to Clemson.

I'm realistic. I'm not expecting 11 wins this year, but 7-8 and a bowl game are withing reason while he builds our dynasty. USC wasn't always winning the Rose Bowl year after year, dynasty was built, just give it time. UT is committed to winning and has no problem putting the money forward to make it happen

Bro, Trojan was a football dynasty in the '60's and '70's...Tennessee has never been close to a football dynasty.

And you're comparing dominating the PAC 10 circa 2001 vs. dominating the SEC in 2010 and beyond?

IMO, UT is currently far behind the SEC's BIG FOUR...6-6 seems about right.

KIFFIN BLASTS GAMECOCKS WITH PUMPING GAS BOMB

Posted by Keith Arnold on March 10, 2009, 1:36 p.m.

In the heated pursuit of South Carolina receiver Alshon Jeffrey, Kiffin went head-to-head with former mentor Pete Carroll and nemesis Steve <nobr style="font-weight: normal; font-size: 100%;" id="itxt_nobr_33_0">Spurrier.</nobr>
While Jeffrey was committed to Southern Cal since last June, he opened up his recruiting and all but decided on staying home and playing for the Gamecocks. While programs like Florida and Alabama tried to get in the door with the talented wideout, Jeffrey was down to both USCs and Tennessee.
After it looked as though Kiffin had lost the battle for Jeffrey, ESPN.com’s Chris Low reports that Kiffin took off the gloves.
“According to Jeffrey and Wilson, Kiffin told Jeffrey that if he chose the Gamecocks, he would end up pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina.”

GATORS “IMMORTALIZE” LANE’S NOSTRADAMUS MOMENT

Posted by John Taylor on March 9, 2009, 10:28 p.m.
As if there was any doubt that Lane Kiffin’s bold and brash prediction of a win over Florida this year wasn’t resoundingly heard all the way down in Gainesville, a website devoted to Gator football has put the remaining remnants of that misguided theory six feet under.
On GatorTailgating.com, there is a pictorial posting of a tour the site made of Florida’s football facilities. One of the photos in particular shows exactly what Kiffin’s comments at the press conference officially announcing his hiring by Tennessee means to the Gator football program.
In the picture, a white, laminated piece of paper is prominently placed on at least one wall of the complex.
The words contained on the paper?
“I’m really looking forward to embracing some of the great traditions at the University of Tennessee, for instance the Vol Walk, running through the T, singing Rocky Top all night long after we beat Florida next year. It will be a blast.” — Lane Kiffin at his introductory press conference
Oh yeah, it is so on. While Urban Meyer found little humor in Kiffin’s false allegations of recruiting misconduct, he’s obviously found yet another source of motivation for his football team.
Say what you will about Kiffin — and I have said plenty — one thing is certain: he’s taken an already intense rivalry and ratcheted things up a notch or ten.
And I’m thinking we might need a countdown clock on this site to tick down the days, hours, minutes and seconds to the September 19 showdown, a Gainesville battle that has the potential to be one of the most highly-anticipated regular-season games in recent memory.

no chance, ZERO, that Florida hangs 70 on OUR D....id easily bet that

Bro, y'all playing that Tampa 2 Zone...that lets the WR make short catches and is predicated on immediately tackling them?

The only D Elder Kiffin knows how to run?

You sure y'all have enough sure tackling DBs to immediately stop our...ahem, athletically gifted boys?

70-17...book it, baby....................................:tiphat:

Whoa Mully, do a little studying. Tennessee was a Top 5 program in the country in both the 50's and the 90's. Also was 45-5 from '95-'98 with two SEC titles and a national title.

I know all this and wasn't arguing it, just saying UT was a Top 5 program in two different decades. Historic programs like UT don't stay down long. This is UT's first prolonged struggle in a long time. I believe every major program has had a bad run of 3 or 4 straight bad seasons since UT and Michigan were down. It has happened in the last 4 years and even then Tennessee went to a SEC title game. Tennessee will be back, I just hope it doesn't take 10 years and 4 coaches like Bama.

As an Oakland Raider fan my hate for Lane Kiffin runs deep...how about two coaches and three years?

I will never believe he's achieved anything deserving a shot at one of the best HC jobs in the NCAA.

Yes, I believe UT is one of the best HC positions in all of CFB............

After all the class he has displayed in Tennessee , it is hard to figure out how he didn't get along with anyone in the raider organization..........

tried to warn you guys not to hire him...... however ... assuming you don't get caught with his recruiting violations .. you may end up being the miami hurricanes of decades past type of team that will recruit all the scumbags with problems to come play.

have fun.

:shake: unfortunately this is dead accurate and I have hated this move since the day they rumored him for the job.

It has been a few rough years in the past 4 years, but at least we had a coach that would hold his tongue in check. Granted there were several player problems with the law in the last year, but who hasn't had problems in the SEC (only Vandy doesn't it seems like). It sucks that we have been stale with Fulmer, but this guy is MUCH MORE OF A JERK AND ASSHOLE THAN URBAN AND SABAN COMBINED.

I think you are wrong. UT has had one of the best recruiting classes in the nation for how many consecutive years? This program didn't need a spark, it needs discipline, focus, and a QB. I can tell you from experience that any publicity is not good publicity. If he ends up getting sanctions and some type of probation because of his foolish ways or a big mistake, UT could be gone for a couple decades. It demolished the bama program for a long time (in my short life)

Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin denied telling recruit Alshon Jeffrey that he would end up pumping gas for a living if he attended South Carolina, ESPN reported.
Jeffrey, who decided on South Carolina after also being recruited by Tennessee and Southern Cal, and his Calhoun County (S.C.) high school coach, Walter Wilson, both claim Kiffin told them that the wide receiver would end up pumping gas for a living just like all the other players from the state of South Carolina who play for the Gamecocks.
But Kiffin said, "I never said that to Alshon, nor would I say anything like that. That's just not something I would say."

Was at Sapphire's downtown Knox on Saturday and Monte Kiffin and Peyton Manning were there..I shook Manning's hand and asked what he was doing here and he said he was helping with QB's.

Everyone here loves Kiffin FWIW.

But will they love him after a 7-5 season intermixed with some huge losses?
(He's like the new chick you're dying to bang and she just won't give it up...once you're finally "in there" it never quite matches up to your expectations.)

All I know is that Lane Kiffin hasn't achieved anything as a HC...and was only co-OC @ USC...what the hell did he do to deserve UT's HC position?
