I have been following this site for quite awhile now and this is BY FAR the most useful post i have read. i printed it up and use it daily. if you are betting totals ... it is basically a combination of pitchers , lineup, stadium , umpire and weather (wind direction and strength , temperature, rain , snow , humidity). this post is useful.

This is my first post but I come here everyday to look at the directions of the stadium.

so does this work as you would logically think it would?

If the wind is blowing 10 MPH directly east, and you take yankee stadium which points directly east, doest that mean the batter has 10 Miles of wind directly at his back?

Does the stadium block the wind, and cause it to swirl differently?
Would there instead be a windstream up at a certain point in the air?

Does the temperature/humidity have an effect on this as well?

I can remember some stadiums maybe even in football where the flags will be blowing one way at one point of the stadium, but other flags will be blowing a different direction. I believe the actual tall structure of the stadium will give say Giants stadium swirling winds.

Can anybody comment on how to interpret this data. Is it really as simple as everybody assumes?

My thoughts are that each stadium is different so you can't generalize anything by any means. It's just a matter of using the information anyway you can.

Quick general thoughts on a few stadiums, caveat: I'm sure some of my opinion are based more on team results rather than stadium design:

San Diego - hardly ever goes over.
Texas - look for hot and humid days for overs.
LAD - goes over more in day than night.
Yankee stadium - always get it back-ass backwards, have no idea.
SF - even when wind blowing out, still hard for the total to go over.

Think you're just thinking too much into it.... knowing that the wind is blowing in from right, or out to left, whatever the case may be is better than not knowing.

You dont need to get into the physics of a ball during humid days to cap a card IMO.

one thing I'd like to know, I remember checking the weather channel and some stadiums orientation didn't correlate with what was listed by baseball-almanac .

If i remember correctly, the Cards was one of them.

Also the Nats isn't updated.

one thing I'd like to know, I remember checking the weather channel and some stadiums orientation didn't correlate with what was listed by baseball-almanac .

If i remember correctly, the Cards was one of them.

the Cardinals moved 2 or 3 years ago, the orientation doesnt look right. I will check and report back unless there are Cardinal locals here who know. Yankee Stadium is a tough one, very difficult to find a weather advantage there. Another interesting site is ballparktour.com this is an excellent thread. thanks

Something i just noticed.. At Turner field in ATL there is one spot where the sun shines right in a RHP's eyes (especially in stretch).. I'm sure as the year goes on it won't be the case as i just noticed it today on a 7:00 start. It's something to be aware of in the next few home games. I'll see if it's the case next game. Lowe threw 30 pitches in first primarily because of the sun.

Ballpark Shadows

If I could appeal for a sticky on this one, we need to get a list of parks and the times where shadows come into play. They are a HUGE benefit to pitchers, and can help with UNDERs because the player can't pick up the spin on the ball.

MIL 3:40 PM (4/10): 1st5
SEA 6:40 PM (4/23): 1st5, full game
BOS 4 PM (Summer): mid-game, full game

I posted this on April 15th. 7:05 PM EST game against Florida.. It really is odd as this was the only place on the field that seemed to have a shadow but it was a beam of light just killing Lowe in the early goings. As I said above, I'll keep my eye on it next game

Right now it's the 6th inning and the shadows are still from pitcher to batter making it very tough for the hitters

Sorry if there was already a post about this. Why is MLB the one sport that sites like justin.tv and channelsurfing.net don't carry feeds of? Is this like a known thing that there's nowhere to find these games, or is there somewhere that has em? Thx.
