So they gave Beatty the best actress envelope instead of best picture... holy shit what a fucking choke

But how would that ever happen? The best actress envelope was already opened and that award presented. There is zero chance that wasn't done intentionally. It makes no sense otherwise.

Occam's razor

Someone handed Beatty the wrong card, they Probably have multiples of each in case something happens to one like it drops or gets lost etc.

For people that hate Hollywood, it's a victory

And for conspiracy theorists, it's a victory

But for the rest of us, it's a fucking riot, and Kimmel hit it out the park blaming Steve Harvey

Who loses other than Warren Beatty?

In fairness, the transition was very well done. We've never seen an acceptance speech transition to another like this in history. Coulda resulted in an Oscar Royal Rumble, but it was peaceful.

In an amazing other universe

Beatty gets handed the best actor envelope and mid speech Matt Damon gets interrupted by Kimmel that they didn't win

Once they started making their thank you speeches it became really unfortunate.

1000x worse than Steve Harvey.

Just because they are actors doesn't mean we shouldn't feel sorry for them. It was handled pretty well by La La Land

Ya the standing ovation for Streep just for making an idiot of herself to start it all off is enough to make you never want to spend another dollar at the theater again.

I can accept that all of you in the industry are lefties. I can accept that you are not too bright (that is putting it kindly). But please shut up and just make movies.

Actually Kimmel did them all a favor in doing most of the shot-taking at Trump. I think it kind of diffused the tension and let the winners focus the speeches on what they love best, themselves.

Conservatives too busy working in order to support non-conservatives to have time to watch espn or the movies anymore.

Dumb people are out reproducing smart people by a long ways ... another problem with wealth redistribution. The people who are making good decisions, have to make the decision to have less kids because the government is taking their money to support all the people making bad decisions. And in turn, the people making bad decisions make the bad decision to have kids they cannot afford. We are doing an end run around Darwinism.

Think the ratings drop had more to do with a less than stellar group of fairly obscure movies being up for all the awards. La la land was the one household name and even then was only 20th at the box office.

When The Force Awakens wasn't nominated a couple of years ago it signaled the end of Hollywood recognizing artistic merit in popular films. That's going to drive the younger audience away.

it's back

https://www.oddschecker.com/awards/oscars/best-picture

limits are too low everywhere to have a bet at the moment. Early thought is 17's is too large for Detroit - director and writer have been there multiple times before, race related plays well. The Papers is Spielberg/Hanks/Streep and about the Washington Post. Topical, but Spielberg has made plenty of trash the last couple of decades

If the papers is even halfway decent it's going to get the same treatment spotlight did

Agree on Detroit and early reviews are great

Dunkirk defenitly nominated but it may split votes with the darkest hour too much to actually win

Is best actor odds up yet

Ddl in phantom thread should be below even money

Nothing but Best Picture at the moment. Yeh, DDL will open short. Not much is known about that movie, but one rumour is that is about Hardy Amies. Hopefully that is true. He was an interesting dude. He designed for the Queen and his label still goes on today. But in the war he was the senior British officer leading the Belgian resistance and led Operation Ratweek (which resulted in the murder of dozens of German collaborators)

Now that I’m not first up no one knows what to do. Disappointing, only movie, actor, actress and director up. Really want to have a crack on DeFoe in Supporting Actor. He’ll win it, and there will be value after Rockwell won golden globe. SAGs are this weekend, moms Tuesday. If DeFoe wins in Sunday price is gone

The Shape of Water was the best movie of the year and a very Academy friendly one at thy. I'm hoping the odds will drop a little more and I'll crush it.

Gary Oldman and Frances McDormand are winning. The end.

Rockwell had value pre GG now gone. Dafoe is a decent bet and Plummer a small lonshot bet.

Janney is deserving. Tough to bet against her.

Get Out is a live dog in Original Screenplay.

I'll be back soon. Alan I'm always down to talk Oscars
