Clemson added another 5* yesterday, making five straight 5* commits for the Tigers. Myles Murphy (discussed above) made it official.

Lemanski Hall gets his first big recruiting feather in the cap. UGA is not happy about this outcome. The Dawgs have amassed a great deal of defensive end/outside linebacker star power in recent years, but are still searching for an elite pass rusher. They wanted Murphy!
In the end, this recruitment came down to Auburn and Clemson with UGA being eliminated. Murphy and his family were extremely diligent in their pursuit of a match for Myles. Myles has the grades and test scores to go anywhere in the country and early on their was a feeling that he might pick a school based on academic fit like a Stanford or Michigan, for example. Myles did his homework on engineering schools, part of the reason that Auburn made the final cut. The family visited the main schools on Myles list and quietly whittled the list down.
Hall and the Clemson recruiting staff did work to position Clemson at the front of the pack, but, again, quietly. Clemson does a really good job of allowing the recruit to also realize that the fit is mutual without being overly pushy. It should also be noted that if you were to rank the top 100 players based on being an upstanding citizen on and off the field—Murphy would be in the top 10 easily (but don’t worry, Myles plays with an edge on the field).
My comparison for Murphy isn’t perfect, but right now it is Cle Ferrell. Murphy can play both the pass and the run. He is big enough to play immediately at strongside defensive end. He has a big frame similar to Ferrell with long arms. He will likely play in the 265-270 range. He plays with power and decent speed, but just like Cle he gets off the line quickly and has good bend for a guy his size. His pass rush moves are probably more advanced than Cle at this stage compared to Ferrell’s first years coming off of injury.

Clemson followed up by taking a commitment from its first 3* of the cycle, tailback Kobe Pryor of Cedartown, Georgia, who chose Clemson over Auburn and Tech after he failed to get an offer from UGA.

Pryor is the #55 ranked running back in the 2020 class per the 247Sports Composite and the #750 player overall. Pryor chose Clemson over Auburn and Georgia Tech. The Tigers took the lead in his recruitment following his visit to the Spring Game earlier this year and Pryor committed to the take the final running back spot in the 2020 class shortly after Demarkcus Bowman made his intention to join the class public. Pryor’s commitment extends Clemson’s grasp on the #1 ranked 2020 class even further and is the 16th commitment overall.
Tony Elliott led Pryor’s recruitment and has earned the fanbase’s trust with his ability to evaluate running back talent. Pryor was coveted by Clemson during this cycle, so I wouldn’t think twice about UGA not giving Pryor the offer he reportedly wanted most. Additionally, Pryor has generated significant buzz this Spring and will likely receive a rankings bump during the next round of updates.
He posted a 4.83 40 yard dash, a 4.32 shuttle, and a 35 inch vertical leap at the recent Opening Regional in Atlanta. His 40 yard dash time is mediocre, but his 35-inch vertical suggests that his slow 40 could be the result of a poor run or lack of training for the test. Elliott clearly sees Pryor as the type of bulldozer the Tigers have been missing since the Cordarrian Richardson decommitment in 2016 [which led Clemson to scramble and offer Travis EtTienne at the last minute]. He will bring some desired diversity to the RB room and be the change of pace back that Adam Choice and CJ Fuller were in recent years.
Clemson will maintain contact with APB Daniyel Ngata during the remainder of the recruiting cycle, however, two commitments at the running back position are all the staff intends to take at the moment.
With Pryor as the 16th take in the class that doesn’t leave many spots open. Clemson will still likely take 2 wide receivers, Burch as an oversign DE, and a Safety, perhaps a TE and then evaluate if there is room for another LB take. It is tight, but Clemson will definitely take 19, probably 20 and I think they should take 21.
