2015 Mets

As a longtime mets fan who has suffered through many tough seasons i'm intrigued by this team.. but am still overly pessimistic. Just wanted to open a thread to put in thoughts and gather others opinions.

Through 20 games or so i know its better than anyone could expect realistically but i still have serious concerns and i'm forever pessimistic..

A. Our defense is awful aside from Lagares and Wright (when healthy)
B. Hitting very inconsistent (scoring runs in bunches), but not threatening consistently.. a lot of goose eggs.
C. Terry Collins is an awful game manager.. STOP LETTING HARVEY RUN THE SHOW.. IF YOU WANT TO PROTECT HIM DO IT.. IF NOT JUST LET HIM GO OUT THERE AND PITCH 225 INNINGS IF NECESSARY...
D. Away from the friendly confines of Citi-Field i'm not sure the mets are even close to a .500 team this year.
E. While i love our starting pitching and the depth there.. our bullpen is scary aside from Familia who has been great.. Not sure it can hold up.
F. I love Grandy and Cuddyer, but i dotn like being old in the corner outfield positions
If the mets think this is the year they make the playoffs do they go out and spend on a big hitter who can play defense? Preferably short stop... We have highly touted minor league talent who i'm sure would fetch a good price on the open market, trade value wise...

Anyways.. LGM..

And I love me some Bartolo, but does anyone think he can realistically keep pitching the way he has been?

Pregnant Bartolo, to much surprise, has been pretty effective for a few years now. The cliche the announcers like to drop is that he's learned how to pitch. Consider him an obese poor man's Greg Maddux.

I wouldn't sell the farm to make the playoffs this year, play the season out..they aren't close to a deep run even if they make it this year...BIG IF....

you figure Washington gets their thing going in the East shortly, still only 20 games in like you said.

Adam Rubin keeps calling the mets "juggernauts" and "best team"...he's drinking too much kool-aid

Far from best team.. When u struggle to turn a 4-6-3 and it costs you 3 runs a night that's not good..

Next series is big for the mets... Three out of 4 or even a split from surging nats would be big

The NL East is awake!April 30th, 201511:00 am

The Mets had their way with the NL East during the first few weeks of the season. It appears it’s time to wake up.
The Mets started the season 13-3, but have since lost back-to-back series, including four of their last six games.
Meanwhile, the Marlins have won seven of their last 10 games, including two against the Mets. And, while the Nationals had lost five in a row, they recently rallied to win their last two against the Braves in Atlanta. The Nationals head to Citi Field tonight to begin a four-game series with the Mets.
Thankfully, the Mets are 10-0 at Citi Field, where they return for six games starting tonight, before embarking on a seven-game trip through Philadelphia and Chicago.
“There’s no concern,” Michael Cuddyer said, three times, after Wednesday’s loss to the Marlins. “We’re excited to go back home. Hopefully the fans are excited to have us back home and we play well again.”
The series could cripple the Nationals, who will be looking to build off their momentum in Atlanta. By winning three of four this week against Washington, it could push the Nationals to eight games out of first place at the start of May. Otherwise, if the Mets lose the series, it will blow the lid off the division, pull everyone to within a few games of one another and again put it all up for grabs.

Degrom V. Strasburg and Harvey V. Scherzer...... I'm in. love good pitching matchups.. I hope DeGrom got that Yankee outing out of his system..

Barton can always pinch hit.

Seriously I think anyone can win that div cept Phils...they are tradh. The fish will make some noise before it's over

:enraged:

I cant take the fish seriously with that ball park?? The fluorescnent green and that monstrosity in left center field? What is that fucking thing?

Uninspired effort tonight.. Mets in desperate need Of a day off or a harvey complete game shutout tomorow

Welp.. this looks like a trend that isnt going to get fixed.. Defense is an issue

The Mets (15-8) were done in by their defense and couldn’t muster much offense as they lost to the Nationals (10-13) on Thursday night at Citi Field.

Jacob deGrom was perfect through three, but an error by Wilmer Flores with none out in the fourth on what should have been a routine 6-4-3 double play changed the complexion of the inning and the game. DeGrom, who had still only allowed one hit entering the sixth, allowed five runs (three earned) on five hits, walked two, and struck out four in 5.1 innings.
An RBI double by Kevin Plawecki and a run-scoring single off the bat of Curtis Granderson gave the Mets a 2-0 lead in the second.
After Flores’ error in the fourth, the Nationals plated three runs to take a 3-2 lead. Washington then extended their lead to 5-2 in the sixth with a run-scoring infield single to Flores and an RBI single up the middle.
Bryce Harper’s three-run double off Jack Leathersich in the eighth made it 8-2 Nats.
Juan Lagares threw out Ryan Zimmerman at plate to end the sixth for his first outfield assist of the season.

The Mets continue their four-game series with the Nationals at Citi Field on Friday night at 7:10 p.m.
Matt Harvey gets the start for the Mets, opposed by Max Scherzer for the Nationals.

Was at the game last night and it seemed over after the Flores error. Mets let strasburg get into a rhythm. He had 50 pitches real early then was able to cruise.

Dilson Herrera called up to play 2nd, murph to third, Campbell to bench. Wright out at least another week. If this keep up Flores experiment over quickly

Murph to 3rd sounds like an awesome plan.. NOT..
Guy cant play 2b.. what makes everyone think the hot corner is any easier...
I'm worried for this team. Maybe Wright can come back and infuse some energy. Need Harvey to pitch a gem tonight to have any chance against Max.. Over under should be like 5 tonight.

I like how Dilson has played in AAA ball this year, but come on.. he's not ready for the spotlight..

So frustrating... Do the mets realize the opportunity they have right now? With the way our pitchers are pitching with even a hint of offense we'd be a playoff team..

GO OUT AND GET SOMEONE... Brewers having a fire sale or so I hear. How bout Gomez? Or Davis? Or hell even Braun? Please don't let them waste this opportunity and have it be too late by August..

Yes yes I know... It's only May... But Jesus f ing Christ

Getting Wright back will be like making a big trade. That will be their company line. I have experience with rooting for a team that refuses to add a bat.

Wright 7 years ago would be nice.. I want a big time corner outfielder.. I like cuddyer and grandy but both would be better served in utility roles.. We have at least 4 arms and 3 position players that are HIGHLY coveted or so I'm told in the minors.. I just the the NL is there for the taking and they need to take it

Get in line. You know how many times I've wanted the Indians to get Nelson Cruz? It's an annual unanswered wish, and it's ridiculous because he's always available. Who needs a RH power bat more than Cleveland? Which elite RH power bat is available every year?

The Mets say they’re committed to Wilmer Flores at shortstop. Triple-A infielder Matt Reynolds can be called upon for a tryout as well. However, in the event Sandy Alderson wants to make a trade, here are the teams and names he should consider as they summer trade market begins to percolate…
There could be a match here:
White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez: The White Sox floated his name last winter, but were never serious about moving him. He’s a free agent after this season and they’re struggling. I bet he can be had fairly easily. However, I still can’t see Alderson shelling out a couple of mid-level prospects and $10 million for a guy he obviously doesn’t think is that much better than Flores…
Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki: The Mets and Rockies talked this past winter, but never really came close to a deal. That said, Tulowitzki can be had and baseball insiders still say the Mets line up best to get him. However, it will cost A LOT of pitching. I’m hearing new Rockies GM Jeff Bridich is hellbent on rebuilding his team through young, hard-throwing, under-team-control pitchers. In return for paying, say, $30 million of Tulowitzki’s $118 million, expect Alderson to be asked for two of Steven Matz, Noah Syndergaard and Rafael Montero, and probably one or two lower-level players as well, such as Marcos Molina or Amed Rosario.
Cubs SS Starlin Castro: Similar to Tulowitzki, the Mets and Cubs scouted one another a lot in the last year, but no deal has yet to make sense for either side. Castro, 25, is a three-time All-Star and due $49 million through 2020. So, I continue to believe a package for him would have to be similar to what Colorado will ask for Tulowitzki. That said, these teams have what one another needs, they just need to find a way to make it fit on all sides…
deven-marrero-2013-mj.jpg

It’s worth exploring:
Red Sox SS Deven Marrero: The Red Sox are trying to work him in to a role on the roster and have reportedly talked about him in deals going back to last summer. He’s fast, very good with the glove and their first-round pick from 2012. At the plate, he’s got excellent judgement and makes consistent contact, but has very little power. The Mets had interest in him last winter, but the Sox went a different direction. I like this kid, he’s a nice, all-around, solid fit, and the Mets should have the kind of pitching (bullpen, back-of-rotation) that Boston is trying to acquire.
Dodgers SS Jimmy Rollins: The Mets and Phillies say Rollins refused to agree to a deal to the Mets this past winter. He later denied that, after which he talked up their appealing future. The Dodgers are said to be poking around MLB looking to acquire a front-of-the-rotation starting pitcher, and they have other position prospects and bloated contracts they’d be willing to deal to get a deal done. I don’t see a direct fit, but if they want to move Rollins, and if Alderson is still interested, maybe there is something here worth considering.
Brewers SS Jean Segura: The buzz in baseball is that, if the Brewers decide to blow up their team and rebuild, Segura could be a place to start when trying to bring in new talent. He’s arbitration eligible the next three seasons, 2016-18, after which he can be a free agent. I’ve never heard his name connected to the Mets, but we know these two organizations have scouted one another a ton the last two years.
jean-segura-brewers.jpg
Astros Jonathan Villar:
The Astros are looking to acquire pitching, and soon. The Mets have reportedly expressed interest in Villar before, though that was a couple of years ago. He’s down on their depth chart, capable of playing shortstop and outfield, and could be a decent in-between option should Flores and Reynolds stumble during a pennant race.
I don’t see how a fit, at least not yet:
San Francisco Giants: Giants VP Brian Sabean was scouting the Mets and Nationals in late April. According to MLB Network Radio’s Jim Bowden, Sabean is looking to acquire a long-term solution at third base rather than a one-year stop gap (May 4) and he’s willing to trade minor-league pitching to get a deal done, says Bowden. Mets 2B-3B Daniel Murphy is a free agent after this season, so he isn’t necessarily a fit. However, Wilmer Flores, while a shortstop for the Mets, has shown he’s actually a better third baseman…
Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera: The Mets could have had him as a free agent this past winter, but he was way, way down on their list, from what I was told. I suppose they could still try to trade for him, but now Tampa is playing well in a weak division, so my hunch is they’ll keep him through at least early July…

By the way, look out for the Padres. They want a shortstop too, still have players to trade and money to spend, and will likely be exploring all of the same options as Alderson…

Price is going to be wayyyy too high for Tulo.. hopefully mets dont give up two of our stud Minor Leaguers...

I think they should look at corner outfield instead of shortstop for power hitter.. and if you want to replace SS w a fielding upgrade only go for it.

Ill take 2/3 against everyone all year... Even if it is the shitty phils...

here come the nats... Bryce harper is supposed to be a met

thor pitching on tuesday.. Future front line starter allegedly

Lagares out of the lineup. Slight shoulder strain they are saying. Hope not a long term injury

Impressed w/ Noah last night.. tough spot at Wrigley.. still underwhelmed with our defense and hitting.. We are pretenders right now..

Hearing a lot of Tulo rumors.. not sure he's the guy i want.. especially w/ such a high price.. I pray they dont give up Matz or Syndegaard.. I'd be more willing to give up DeGrom believe it or not.

CHICAGO -- The New York Mets have not yet written off range-challenged Wilmer Flores as their No. 1 shortstop, although Ruben Tejada recently has started to chip away at least modestly at Flores’ playing time. Flores, in fact, has a team-leading four home runs.
Still, the consensus among in-the-know observers is the Mets at some point will need to pull the trigger and obtain a top-tier shortstop if they truly plan to capitalize on their standout pitching and contend before prospect Amed Rosario, 19, is ready to contribute in a couple of years.

</picture>
Four-time All-Star Troy Tulowitzki has been a Rockies mainstay since 2006, playing in 990 games (as of May 12). Would he fit in with the Mets? Harry How/Getty Images

The Amazin's rank 25th in the majors in runs scored, 23rd in batting average (.236), 28th in slugging percentage (.352) and 26th in homers (23).
So the report that Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki may request a trade after meeting with his agent later this week undoubtedly must be intriguing from a Mets perspective.
Tulowitzki, 30, is hitting .298 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 104 at-bats with the Rockies this season. And although injury-prone, he has yet to miss a game for Colorado in 2015.
Still, as they have in the past, Mets' insiders portray the Amazin's acquiring the four-time All-Star Tulowitzki as highly unlikely. They cite three factors:
Injury history. The past three seasons, Tulowitzki has been limited to 47, 126 and 91 games. He did not appear after July 19 last season because of a left-hip injury that required surgery.
Salary. The Mets have been slightly more liberal with their payroll. It is projected to exceed $100 million this season, up from $83 million a year ago. But the free-spending days have not yet returned. And Tulowitzki's salary, especially considering his injury history, is not something the Mets are eager to absorb. Tulowitzki is owed $20 million annually through 2019, then $14 million the following year. By the time a team option is reached for 2021, Tulowitzki will be 36 years old.
Trade package. The Mets have shown little inclination to part with a top MLB-ready pitcher, much less the package Colorado would demand.
A team that makes more sense in a potential trade may be the Chicago Cubs, since they are stocked with young cost-controlled middle infielders and can use a starting pitcher.
Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer acknowledged that this week, saying, via ESPNChicago.com: "We've had conversations with them. We haven't made a deal yet, but there have been matches that made sense, and I'm sure we'll talk to them in the future."
Still, even a deal with the Cubs faces a potential uphill battle. A Mets official recently was insistent that the organization would be unlikely to deal from their core of young, MLB-ready pitching in order to obtain even a similarly cost-controlled young infielder from the Cubs. If the Mets stick to that insistence, it makes you wonder why Hoyer and boss Theo Epstein would be inclined to deal with the Mets.
