2015 Golf Pool Discussion

Forgot to post earlier in the week. Took Kevin Kisner this week

Another close call. At least Kisner didn't lose to the guy putting with a wedge for the last 9 holes. Not many tournaments left, need to make a nice run here. I looked at the complete standings, and I am tied for most top 5s in the pool, but only have the one win, so still well out of the money at this point. The news of Rory's injury is potentially a killer, since I have been saving him. Kind of like last year when DJ took his leave before I was able to use him. Hopefully RM is back soon. John Deere is another relatively weak field. Stricker is always a safe play here, but he hasn't played all that well when he's played this year. Looking at Ryan Moore, Tony Finau, and a few others for now

Moore was in pretty decent position after Friday, and was in the top 5 at one point on Saturday, but made too many pars and bogeys to really contend in this tournament. On to the Open. Love this major. My working list is Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama, and Justin Rose. Rose's history at the Open is pretty poor, best finish ever was as an amateur. At this point I need wins, so that may rule out Sergio here. Likely between DJ and Scott. If I don't use DJ here, I have another major, and the playoffs where he's had success. I really like that Scott is under the radar here (pretty much everyone is with the Spieth train), will have Steve Williams on the bag (who certainly knows St Andrews), and he played well at the US Open and has a pretty solid Open record too. Will have to keep an eye on the weather before I make my final pick though

Decided on Adam Scott over DJ. Hope that Scott gets off to a decent start and that wind shows up tomorrow afternoon

Get it...I like Adam Scott as well but DJ started crazy hot

Yeah, and looks like the weather is going to play tough all day tomorrow too. I'm fine with Scott's 70. Hoping it's really soft and the wind lays down in the morning before the hard stuff gets there in the afternoon.

Ugh. Scott tied for the lead with 5 holes to go, and having played two perfect shots on a par 5. Then he played those 5 holes in +5. Not sure how he managed to double 18. Canadian Open is light on big names as you'd expect, and a few WDs wouldn't surprise me from the guys who finished on Monday in Scotland. Most of the RBC guys should be there though. Last time at this course, Hunter Mahan WD with the 36 hole lead bc his wife went into labor. Furyk is the obvious choice here, but may hold onto him for the FedEx playoffs. Luke Donald, JB Holmes, Mahan, and deLaet are some names I'm looking into for now

Luke Donald this week. Supposedly accuracy off the tee and in approach play is paramount, so hope LD keeps up his recent good play

Knew it wasn't my week when I saw Luke Donald making pars and bogeys on par 5s that I can reach in two. Quicken Loans is next, and it seems that the schedule change has hurt the field with a world golf event and the PGA Championship in the two weeks after. Not much firepower, and it's a new course. 4 President's Cups have been played there, but it's been long enough ago that it may not be relevant. Will dive in today

Yeah, up in the air for sure. I think Fowler is playing so he'd be someone I would be looking at just because I don't know of any course biases with this new course.

Luckily I used Rickie for his sterling performance at Chamber's Bay. Justin Rose is the highest ranked option I have left, but he is on my short list for Firestone and the playoffs. Bill Haas is an option, but he's also money at Wyndham in a few weeks. Might just have to take a flyer on one of the guys who have been knocking on the door the last few weeks.

Ended up taking Rose. Only have 8 tournaments left, and 4 of those have restricted fields, and I figured Rose was a clear favorite this weekend and I need to make up some ground. Of course as I get up and pull up the leaderboard, I see my original pick Jason Bohn is out to an early lead. Need a high finish here

Took Hideki Matsuyama for Bridgestone. Setting the rest of my schedule for DJ at Whistling Straits, Furyk and Sergio in the playoffs. Hoping Rory comes back, but not counting on him.

Hideki looked strong for 17 holes on Thursday, then his game left him until Sunday. For PGA it's either DJ or Rory for me. Taking RM is a little worrisome off the injury and no tournament rounds since June, but I don't think it's a guarantee that he'll play the FedEx Cup, so this might be my last chance to use him

Had Rory all week, switched to DJ at last minute. That hasn't worked out for me well in the past, but DJ has held the lead at some point during the last 2 majors, and I was worried about Rory having some rust.

Matsuyama is a damn good player. If he was from the US and not Japan he would be much shorter each week

Frustrating weekend for DJ. Looked great Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (except for 1 hole). Just odd that the last 2 majors that turned into birdie-fests, DJ couldn't score. Glad for Jason Day. He's been my favorite golfer for a few years now, and I had him 10-1 for the tournament, so not a total loss. I'm going to need to have an unbelievable next 5 tournaments to get in the money in my pool. I have a good lineup available for the playoffs, with Furyk, Sergio, Rory, Koepka, Streb, and a few others. Probably going Bill Haas at Wyndham, but haven't really looked into it yet. Rory confirmed he's skipping the Barclay's, and will play the last three playoff events, so he's a must pick for me in Boston most likely. Hard not to take Furyk for BMW since he posted a 59 here last time it was played on this course. He's also money at East Lake. Same for Sergio. Liking Koepka at Barclay's.

Koepka salvaged last week with a great back 9 on Sunday. Took Bill Haas for the Barclay's
