WVU/Colorado Discussion...

One intersting note that I find amusing is that nobody is giving ECU much credit. Could it be possible that the Pirates (a team with a good coach, solid QB, loaded with vertran players) are actually a damn good football team?

I don't know that WVU played that badly against ECU. It was more them being beaten by a better football team.

I'd be surprised if the Mounties didn't come out and spank the buffs tonight. They are a better team, and this line is too low

like DUB V myself.. spank city tonight on the road.. Devine and Pat White will eat em up .. itll be a matter of WVU defense whether they win

Zone blocking is returning Kyle...

Heading into the season West Virginia’s offensive line was widely considered one of, if not the, best line in the country. Through the first two games they have failed to live up to the hype.
The line, which features four seniors and a junior, was adequate against the football championship subdivision Villanova Wildcats and then manhandled by the East Carolina Pirates.
“We made a lot of mistakes and we’ve been working in practice to fix them,” said senior tackle Ryan Stancheck. “I think its gut check time for us, especially as an offensive line. We just need to pick up things and work on the little things.”
Over the past week and a half the line has gotten back to its bread and butter: zone blocking. The Mountaineers have rolled up massive amounts of yardage over the past three seasons by zone blocking and the line is built for the speedy blocking maneuvers.
While the Mountaineers remain committed to throwing the ball more this season, offensive coordinator Jeff Mullens says he wants to establish the run, realizing the team’s strength is in running the football.
“We’ve been just running the ball in practice,” said center Mike Dent. “I think we’re going to try to pound that again, get back to the running game.”
Those practices over the past week have been intense. The Mountaineers were uncharacteristically flat in Greenville and they hope to bee hyped up Thursday night.
“We’ve taken it upon ourselves as players to increase intensity,” said Stancheck. “We took that loss and put it on our shoulders as an offensive line. We made a lot of mistakes and hopefully if we can have a great game it will also be on our shoulders.”
A nationally televised game should do the trick of getting the team pumped up.
“That’s one of the great things about playing big time football,” says Stancheck. “You make a lot of mistakes and then you get to go out on TV and redeem yourself. So, it’s exciting to go play on television again.”
Thursday night will be another stiff challenge. Colorado’s front four features three seniors and a junior, including defensive tackle George Hypolite (6-1, 285) who is on the Lombari Award, Outland Trophy and Ronnie Lott Award watch lists. He was an all-Big 12 selection last season. Fellow defensive tackle Brandon Nicholas (6-3, 290) was honorable mention all-Big 12 last year. He was selected as the recipient of the Regiment Award by the Buffaloes’ coaching staff, which is presented to the player who makes the greatest contribution with the least recognition.<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />
East Carolina’s defensive line was able to get pressure on quarterback Pat White by only rushing three. That cannot happen again.

It’s very important for us to protect Pat,” said Stancheck. “We need to keep him in the pocket a little bit more and hopefully he won’t take those bumps and bruises.”
The offensive line is the backbone of the Mountaineer offense and without a quality outing by the veteran group it could be another long night for West Virginia.

I think the strength of the Colorado defense is their rush defense. For the most part, they held a running team like CSU in check although Gartrell Johnson was having some success on the ground

The reason why I asked that quesion is I found something very interesting with Colorado's Defense.

nevertheless...weather.com lists winds at only 5-10 mph...should be no effect

some crazy shit goin on

"Black-Out" game for Colorado, mid-week travel for WVU
Elevation could be an issue late in the game?
ECU loss could be very telling, I know people expect a WVU bounce back, could be set up for scarier things. I don't think ECU is a team full of world beaters, well coached Id say, but, that WVU defense looked like a bunch of pussies in that game.
I'm worried about CU speed on defense if WVU is going to try and run their read-option all night. I read somewhere that CU spent time learning from USF on how to stop WVU, anyone confirm this?

I don't think Colorado's team has a good Defense.

WV usually bounces back well after a loss.

this book is either on drugs or really really wants WVU money

29mph wind, jesus

fuck, that helps WVU

hawkins has been extremely accurate in his throws this season, and the main reason for the buffs success wiht his 71% completion rate and effectiveness

how effective will he be with 29 mph winds?

we know pat white has no arm in the first place and WVU is going to run the football.

fuck you wind

based on the hour by hour chart, it looks like its gonna die down in the second half.
