Who's your Heisman favorite?

SHSUHorn

Thief
Hopefully this year won't be given to the best player on the team favored to win the MNC by default.

This race seems to be the most wide open ever.

My vote goes to Michael Crabtree from Texas Tech right now.

Crabtree...that would be neat

Mike Hart is most Valubale player to one team in country and just willed his team to PSU win..if he can play rest of way he will prolly top 1800 yards...and ifthey somehow get past illy, msu, wisky and osu its his

Brohm is putting up sick numbers despite his teams suckiness. Andre Woodson is a viable candidate too.

I honestly don't know at this point..

Matt Ryan has a great chance.

Woodson got himself right back in there..

Mike Hart (depends on the injury)

McFadden took a big hit..

I'll got w/ Woodson as of today.

I think it would be silly to say Hart means more to Michigan than Woodson means to UK...not saying Hart doesn't mean quite a bit, but imagine UK without Woodson...

Crabtree isn't even listed as odds on bodog..

they do have the field as low as it has ever been I'd assume by the 8th week at 9-1..

Hell only six players that they list are lower than that.

Woodson I agree is my runnerup only because he's playing on abetter team.

Crabtree is going to break every single regular season record as a freshman and will break every single career recieving record.

I know its the system but the kid is what we always said if Mike Leach could recruit top talent at Wr they would put up playstation type numbers.

Crabtree is sick.

jump, Ryan is a great choice especially if they make the BCS title game undefeated.

Also Bush needs to give his back to VY. Sorry couldn't resist.

Yeah I think Matt Ryan defintly has a great chance. Hes putting up good numbers for a NC contender in a great conference. I would say its his to lose right now.

and Horn I also always wondered what it would be like if a top WR went to go play at TTech, since usually they dont really have that big name WR, so I guess it worksy pretty well haha. Crabtree is just nasty. Hes going to destroy every single record

Thats a great point about putting a WR that has real talent in there. Freakin Danny Armendola puts up numbers in that offense. Could you even imagine someone like Percy Harvin in that scheme? He would put up numbers that I might not even be able to duplicate on XBox.

I haven't had the opportunity to watch Crabtree other than for 2 games. That said, he's electric. It's difficult to argue with Brennan's or Woodson's numbers this year, too. Glenn Dorsey's has dominated, but DLmen aren't going to get the nod. None of the RB's (including Hart) have strung together one of those 3-week "wow" stretches....

Depends on what the Heisman actually means. If it is the best player in the country, (call me a homer if you want) Brian Brohm is the best player in college football.

If it is the most valuable player on the Best Team in college football, we have a whole other discussion.

All I know is that it sure as hell isnt Brohms fault that our team has sucked ass this year, and his stats and talent are just sick.

Graham Harrell

Sadly, unless Crabtree puts up 2500 and 35TDs, I just don't see it happening.

And if that happens, Harrell's numbers will be even more ridiculous.

The QB always gets the nod and Harrell is completing 74% of passes for 3100, 31 TDs (3 rushing, too), and only 3 INTs. He's throwing 10/1 ratio!

If Tech goes 10-2 (loss to OU), I think he is in NYC, unless he throws like 5 picks against OU.

I think Mike Hart has a great chance, depending on this injury. I think Michigan runs the table, knocks off the incredibly overrated Ohio State and wins the Big Ten.

Also, Woodson has a shot, but he's got to keep winning. If Kentucky loses more than 1 more game, he's toast. He lost the S Car game with his horrible decisions. Florida, @ UGa, Tennesse... as well as an always interesting game @ Vandy, and he still has a lot of options to screw up.

Which is why if I'm Michigan, Nebraska, Arkansas Clemson, UCLA or Texas A&M I would go after Leach.

Spend the money to get a badass at DC and then let Leach have 5 star athletes on offense.

Alot of people were down on TT this year because of youth but I knew those youths were highly touted coming out of HS especially Harrell. TT usually played with 3 star recruits no one wants to go to school in the desert in Lubbock freakin Texas.

Not only has the Tech offense put up better numbers from the previous year in Leach 7 years at Tech but he coached Couch to the #1 pick, OU's last title in 2000 was Leach turning a no talent Heupal into a star.

Why no big name program goes after him is just retarded to me.

It changes from year to year. First it was your highlight reel guys like Tim Brown, Rocket, Woodson, Desmond Howard but lateley its been whoever ESPN has pumped up and it looks like Woodson is their guy.

The voting should still wait untill after the bowl games since that game does count toward your record and stats.

Just plain idiotic Buch won the Heisman based off of national games vs shitty defenses of ND and Fresno St. but didn't do shit in a real game vs a real defense.

This is exactly what Hunt and I have said this season we would love to see.

I would go for Darren McFadden still, he is the best player in the race and that is what the heisman is the best player.

SHSU,

It is hard for people outside of Lubbock to believe, but some people actually like it here. The coaches enjoy raising their families in Lubbock.

Leach would have been gone to Miami in the off-season and even went down to South Beach, but the U wanted to name their own defensive coordinator, and Leach wanted his own guys. Tech gives Leach 100% control, an option most other schools simply cant do for whatever reason. It took Leach 7 years to fire his DC, Lyle Setencich. Why 7 years? No one can really put a finger on it besides the fact that Lyle gave Leach his first coaching job 20 years ago and felt the need to show the same respect to an old friend.

Either way, Crabtree is sick as is Graham Harrell. Have you seen a Defensive end named Brendon SeSay? He is 4 star, signed with UGA out of HS but then went JUCO. He's committed to TTU and will be starting next year along with McKinner Dixon, another 4 star D-lineman.

2008 is the year for us, but with the Big 12 being in a down year, we could pull a miracle this year if we can win in Austin and take care of the Sooners... the rest should be a cakewalk. We have OU here the last game of the season, and everyone knows a home game at the Jones is like playing in the Bermuda Triangle.

.

I guess you mean desert in the rhetorical sense since there is no desert around Lubbock. It is in the middle of nowhere though, I will give you that.

Crabtree has no shot at the Heisman although he is an amazing talent and a great case could be made for him. They don't like to send those statues to places in the middle of nowhere. If he stays healthy, he will be mentioned in the same breath with Irving, Moss, and Stallworth at least.

Woodson and its not even close ...

Dude is runing things in the SEC

his team isnt the most talented either

this team should be ranked higher

I also Like DeSean Jackson ...

on the Crabtree note that kid is just crazy ...

The Heisman is the most over-rated, mishandled award in sports, so I say, who cares?

If it truly went to the most outstanding, or best, player, the roster of past winners would look nothing like it does. The Heisman, much like MVP awards that are given in pro sports, places entirely too much emphasis on the status ( W-L) of the TEAM the player plays for. And in college, the conference affiliation is overstated. Whenever I hear the "experts" or talking heads dismissing a player's chances to win because of what his team is doing, I get frazzled.

But I know they are right in the assumption that the bandwagon mentality of writers and the public has a hard time eliminating the team factor when deciding on the alleged best player.

Steve Carlton was 27-9 on a Phillies team that won 57 games. Thankfully the mindset then was more forgiving, and understood the meaning of individual awards. Alex Rodriguez won an MVP award when he played for the Rangers who were under .500.

Does anybody really believe Gino Toretta was the best player in the land when the Miami Hurricanes won the '92 national title and he the accompanying Heisman? Or Jason White on the undefeated OU Nat'l title team of 2002? Those were clearly team awards, and a disservice to all individuals who had great years but whose teams did not win the MNC.

So I really couldn't care less about who wins the freakin' Heisman. The process and criteria are a joke.

GrandPa,

Like the Astros avatar. I'm happy Drayton got rid of Purpura, but I'm concerned on what we will do in the offseason. Hope youre a Rockets fan too..I think Yao & T-mac are spoiled with all the studs we got them in the offseason. If I am assuming right, I believe you are an Aggie from previous posts. Whats your take on Fran??

Some of the greatest times of my life were my annual trips up to Lubbock for the Sigma Chi Crawfish broil (I was a Sig). Great, great party school I totally agree.

When were talking 5 star type athletes Lubbock won't compete with the likes of Austin or have the traditions or game atmosphere of the ND, Michigan, tOSU, Florida, LSU, etc...

The 2007 class had 27 guys and only one 4-star and the rest being 2 & 3-star guys. They get the pick of the litter after Texas, OU, LSU, A&M, Miami, tOSU, Michigan, OSU, and ND in the state of Texas unless your a QB like Harrell or Potts.

Crabtree was a 4-star but he's also a pretty damn good basketball player and noone knew what sport he would play. He also only caught one pass in HS so noone had any idea he would be this good. TT thrives off finding diamonds in the rough and Leach's system which is great.

Wes Welker probably the most famous Red Raider going outside of Zach Thomas was offered the last scholarship after signing day when somone decided to turn the Red Raiders down.

Point is I think Leach does great with what he has and if he went to Michigan with Mallet, Manningham, Hart etc on offense and a bigtime DC he would be great.

I think TT is going to beat Texas this year in Austin BTW.

LOL vegas. Knight loves LBK because of all the love he gets here. The bird hunting helps too. His son, Pat Knight, is already in line to take over when The General decides to hang 'em up. The Knights generate and donate unbelievable money for Tech.

Horn, I know you are a big recruiting guru. My boy Andrew Luck out of Stratford HS in Houston is going to dominate at Stanford. He is ridiculously good, can run and pass a la Pat White. I know you live in H-town, I'm going back there after I graduate here in December. What bar do you own in midtown?

atleast the hart vs woodson is a debatable argument.

vince young was stone cold robbed by a second string rb from usc. kick return yards !!! roflmao

lmfao at you guys making fun of Reggie Bush in college...maybe the best college player I've ever seen...

Was on a completely different level.

Vince Young shoulda got the hesiman over Bush??? Are you kidding me? I hate USC with a passion and I hope they lose every game from here til the end of my life, but Reggie Bush was a man amongst children and was far and away the most talented and most gifted athlete I have ever seen in college football. Vince young dominated that NC game, but everyone knows USC's defense was god awful that year.

Young > Bush = :36_11_6:

If Bush doesn't fumble a lateral and Young doesn't make "the run" to the right in Rose Bowl, point is moot..

both were great players....

SHit, many thought Bush deserved it the year that Leinart won it the year before.

ok lets look at the stats ... and remember while the pac 10 was every bit as good as the big 12 in 2005 it was because of the offenses ... there is no doubt that better defense was being played in the big 12.

reggie bush

rushes 200 yards 1740 avg/carry 8.7 16 td

receptions 37 yards 478 avg/rec 12.9 td 2

vince young

rushes 155 yards 1050 avg 6.8 td 12

comp 212 attempts 325 comp perc 65.2 yards 3036 avg/att 9.3 td 26 int10

to make the point even more emphatically than the empirical data , look at leinarts heisman winning stats

2004 matt leinart

comp 269 att 412 yards 3322 perc 65.3 yards/att 8.06 td 33 int 6

rushes 49 yards -44 avg/carry -0.9 td 3

ARE YOU KIDDING ?!?!

young has arguably the greatest season in the history of cfb.
The man rushed for over 1000 and threw for over 3000 while leading his team to a national championship.
In addition, Texas was putting most teams away early and he was sitting in the fourth quarter

Not to mention young is not currently under investigation by the ncaa.

i think i could also put up some stats that one could use to argue that Bush didn't even have the best year at the rb position on his own team.
The guy had flash , no doubt ... but where ws his substance ? hell he wasn't even on the field for the most important offensive play of the entire 2005 season.

Throw the Heisman debate out, Vince Young and Reggie Bush are two of the best college football players I have ever seen.

Oh, and Tedd Ginn is 3...honest to god, I have never seen someone get from the 5 yard line to the 50 in about 2 seconds like Ginn on kickoffs and punts. Just ridiculous speed..throw the stats out...sorry to get off subject.
