I don't know. That team was outscored last season and was fortunate to win 88. Bedard definitely helps bt they lose Jose Guillen on their offense and I think they wind up with something near 83.

tuck-I'm curious as to why you lean to that side. I see Tampa and Toronto getting better this season,with Boston and New York being themselves. I'm sure you are seeing angle that I don't and I'd like to hear it.

Cabrera is signed for 1 year. Another bad year might kill his next contract and the guy actually has great stuff. Guthrie is very talented and so is Loewen. I could see either as a number 1. Have always liked Brian Burres. They have gotten rid of many but not all of their dead weight older players. Getting talented players for Tejada was just stealing. Jones, Sherill and those young prospects are going to be very useful. Scott getting time to play could be a real power source. Bedard won 13 games in his short season and the team won 69 games. They are younger and might actually not have a injury loaded disaster season this year and I only need 66 wins.
I think their changes are good changes and that they are actually more likely to be mid 70s. This number they put out is a public over reaction to the loss of Bedard. Huff and Mora need to be cleaned out and you could have a fairly good team here and 65 is a very good number to bet over when you won 69 last year and I expect a better team this year.
What I usually do is bet on young teams every year coming off poor seasons that are put in the 60s and watch them bounce back. This seems to be that situation. The key will be how much control Trembley and the GM have apart from the disaster creating owner. That is what I need to think about. But there is real pressure for a better team now with the Nationals so close and it will have a positive effect.

Cant believe its that time already. I feel lost looking at this stuff. Yanks and Mets basically the same TT?? What a brave new world we live in. The Mets should be real good though. I dont know what to make of any of these but I will say TUCK has brass balls to take an Over in Balt. Couple of quick opinions

I'm not quite as high on Toronto as you are Music City. They still have to play a good many games against the Sox and Yanks and the D-rays are getting better too. I just question Toronto being able to stay healthy all year.

Orioles are going to be awful this year but I just don't know if I can take them under 65. Thats losing nearly 100 games and thats a pretty rare feat. However this team might just have what it takes

I want to take Detroit over 93 as I feel they are by far the most complete team in baseball this year. Their staff is ridiculous providing Kenny Rogers can continue to avoid getting caught using steroids (kidding, I think). However the fact that Cleveland will again be solid and CWS will be much improved make this a no play.

White Sox Over 76. This team has the talent and pitching to win 85 games IMO. This one seems solid and I hate this ballclub more than any other team in all of baseball.

Arizona o86.5 - D'backs won 90 last year. The team's youth has another season to develop. Haren may not be a great SP, but at least he has a decent bullpen to back him up so that his pitch count does not get sky high like it did in Oakland. I'm also not ready to call it quits on Micah Ownings yet. However, as I said above, Haren doesn't impress me much and I think Beane is great at selling a player at his high price. So I consider AZ still a lean because I could easily seeing them make the playoffs and win the divison while regressing to the mean record-wise.

Chicago Sox u76 - lost some arms, didn't improve much elsewhere, only won 72 last year so why would they win more this year?

Colorado u83 - To answer what smokedawg said above, I too think the Rockies were a fluke. Fundamentally, they are nothing special. It took a spectacular streak at the end of the season to give them 90 wins last year, and I see not only regression to the mean, but also I do not see a stellar winning streak to close the season.

San Diego o85 - Padres won 89 last year, return their arms, still lack hitting, but I do not see Colorado being a threat this year. Why can't the Padres win at least 85 when Arizona is the only other threat in the NL West? I do worry about Young, Peavy regressing this year which would throw this bet into limbo.

Seattle o86.5 - Lost Guillen, added Bedard... I think Bedard's addition is more meaningful than Guillen's departure. Seattle will be a good team to bet unders on, but I think Oakland has weakened and Texas still sucks. Seattle won 88 last year without a good 1-2 combo like they will have this year. I also look for LAA's arms to regress (Escobar, Weaver) so Seattle will be fighting for the AL West come September.

buccos will be in the 75 range because their players know how to hit their division. Also, the manager stated earlier this week that he is interested in bringing in more running type hitters. This is support their more aggresive style on the bases this year. I think 75 is in line. I don't think they will finnish last again in the central.

I like the Bucs to improve off of last year's performance and think they could surprise. Nady and Sanchez seemed poised to be solid contributors and if you can get Bay back to his old self, their offense should have some pop to it. Laroche certainly could improve and I expect Paulino to be a bit better with the bat as well. Throw in a bunch of exciting wild cards like Morgan, Doumit, Mclouth, Duffy, and Buatista - you have an offense with a chance for some success.

The real asset to this team should be the development of their young pitching. Snell and Gorzelanny were excellent last year and should be maturing. Maholm is coming around and Duke could bounce back. Throw in Morris and you have a pretty deep rotation. Their bullpen is shaky, but at least has a good, young talent in Capps and a nice lefty in Marte. I seem to remember Grabow being decent enough, though I think that is the last name I recognize from their pen.

I am on board with santacapper on this one. The team that jumps off the page as a nice over bet is cincinnatti 076. They have imrpoved in all of the major areas that you would look at compared to the start of last year where a similar number was posted for them. ( i went under and won easily muhahahaha ).

The lineup is slightly better than a year ago , and votto should have a good year for them. Their defense is really really good.... if it werent for the catcher position they might challenge the rockies as the best defensive team in the national league. The starting rotation is MILES better than this time last year ... and for those that dont know much about homer bailey .... he is the real deal, clearly better than bronson arroyo in my mind .... and with harang on top ... formidable starting staff. But the real topper .... the one thing MUST make you think that this team improves by atleast four games is the bullpen. They signed Cordero to a deal and he gives them a real closer, and setup man by demotion. I think this team is very improved and could actually challenge for the division. I will be betting this for sure.

I see the giants and padres as very similar teams ... so i personally would rather go under on the padres than the giants. Both of these lineups are atrocious but both of the starting pitching staffs are solid at the top. Padre bullpen obviously superior to giants.

I would never go under a team total of 65. If the team performs exactly as bad as you think they will, you still have to sweat it out ..... not many teams lose 100 games. It will be difficult for them to surprise to the negative side.

I thought i would be betting seattle over total wins but the number came out higher than i expected.

Note that this year , like every previous year , that if you add up all the wins and divide them by the number of teams ...... that unders are where the general overlays are at .... most folks bet their favorite team over the team win total and thus total team wins always add up to more total wins that can occur in a season.
