What Is a Catch

When you watch the 2nd replay of the Adams catch, he gets two feet down then gets a very small step in before his knee hits the ground. Going back to the Likely play in the endzone for the Ravens, that third foot down while upright is enough to confirm possession. So once his knee hits the ground he's down. He does need to survive the ground with possession.

When you watch the Cooks play, he catches it while leaping, gets two feet down but immediately is going to the ground. So he does need to survive the ground with possession and obviously does not.

Rodgers tipped the ball up, then caught it with both feet down, never took a step or made a football move and had it ripped away from him. 100% agree with Capaholic that this should've been an interception and the refs lied about it in the pool report.

The crux of the Rodgers play is right here: this is the point after Rodgers has tipped the ball up, jumped, caught it and landed on two feet. At that point his right foot comes off the ground and is about to toe tap on the ground and he goes to his knees, completing what could be considered a football move (third step). SIMULTANEOUSLY, his left hand has come off the ball and he no longer has two hands on it. It can be argued that at that point he no longer has control and a third step would be moot, he's going down and would now have to survive the ground with control restored (which never happens). The league office argued that his right hand still is in possession of the ball so that third step would count.

But is that conclusive? The call on the field was an interception. Are we seeing enough to overturn it? I didn't think so at the time and many in Pittsburgh actually don't think so as well. In fact, it's part of the discussion today on 93.7 The Fan as they talk about the Cooks play.

Depends when you think adams has control. I think it is incomplete but can see if you think he has control slightly before I do then it is a catch. close call
