Welcome to the wildest coaching carousel we've seen ...

The DeBoer thing was funny. Look, I bet more Bama fans than they let on want him gone.
Hes not leaving Bama to take over for a coach in a jail cell. Was this really a thought?!

Not over yet. Polymarket currently has Dill at 40% and kalen at 25%.

SM being in jail or not has nothing to do with the new coach does it ?

It's UM. Bryce Underwood. 5 star #1 overall recruit. Talent all over the field. The Big House. The Maize and Blue.

That's why you go there.

Basketball school and resources will go to that because they can be dominant in that sport

Spread it to football and neither is dominant. Not sure why that's a difficult concept to understand.

Historically michigan is known for football more than basketball no?

4 or 5 final fours in history right ?

One basketball title in 1989. Nothing before that. Fab 5 b2b runner up 92 and 93.

A runner up under beilein a decade ago.

But in football a title in 97. Deep run #2 vs #1 in c-bus 2006.

Multiple CFP appearances under harbaugh and a Natty two years ago.

I think they are definitely prideful of their football team. Sure, in hoops they have a terrific coach and team but the place the rubber meets the road in AA is through the Big house.

No ?

They are prideful of their hockey team. That's not remotely the point.

Being a top 1-2 team in basketball is way more lucrative than being a 6-10 in football and they have the foundation to do that right now.

And before it goes down the path of fans at games, that's not close to the argument. The brand of Michigan basketball sells nationwide right now and likely outside of the US. The football doesn't. It's really great timing considering what's going on there, UM basketball fans are living the good life regardless of what's going on with Sherrone.

Whittingham retires at Utah. No surprise. He had given hints this year would be his last and he had already designated the DC as the head coach in waiting. He'll coach through the bowl game.

He's a skier, so he'll have plenty of time to work on his form now. Maybe I'll run into hi on the slopes

Going to stay on as a consultant for 2 years. Rumors are he still has the fire but if they strung Scalley along any longer they would lose him.

It will be interesting to see if anyone makes a run at him. I doubt he'd do it but he could be the guy to fix Michigan for a 2-3 year stint with plans to hand it over to someone afterwards.

The fire DeBoer crowd is pretty open about their feelings, so I'm not sure there's all that many closeted ones. I do think this current cycle has made the fans on the fence realize that going out and hiring a big time coach isn't that clean and easy. Although I don't think he deserves it (yet), I bet whatever amount and guarantees that Michigan is telling Jimmy Sexton they are willing to offer will end up in an extension or renegotiated contract for De Boer at Alabama. I think Greg Byrne is a really good AD, and he knows that the last thing he needs is to get into another coaching search

Is there a way for me to bet on Minter at some big odds because I can definitely see him getting the job.

Bud, after the show-cause just ended literally days ago, you think they would bring him back ?

i don't know man. i just don't see it unless numerous others simply say no or they cannot close a deal with them.

It was worth a shot so I bet on MInter. I tried opening accounts on polymarket and kalshi but only kalshi allows American accounts.

Maybe I have an inflated view of Michigan but really none of these names excite me besides maybe DeBoer. Dillingham has done a good job at Arizona State but I need to see a biggle sample size before giving him a job like this. On a selfish note Minter should get the job but I really think a proven winner is whats needed as I really thought Moore was a lazy hire to begin with.

Of the top 3 I only think Fisch would leave really

agree Sir !

Dill would leave ASU for UM imo
He's such an ASU guy, I'm not sure what it would take. Obviously upgrade in job but the afforementioned focus on Dusty and hoops is a thing and I'd go to my grave believing that.

he has lived and coached outside of AZ for 6+ years recently so let's see

Do you guys hear Dru Chronic as an FBS coach candidate? Was successful Dll Lenoir Rhyne and FCS Mercer coach now in 2nd year as Navy OC. I think he left the Mercer job specifically to get FBS coordinator experience as the next step to FBS head coach as former FAMU and NDSU coaches did.

Fisch should never get that job, he's done little to show he should be coaching there.
He's connections

Not x and o if that's the breakdown

Probably the perfect person in my opinion. I don't think x and o wins in big time football

Did he turn the job down?

He has that opportunity at his media availability on Monday.

Seems like same exact candidate pool outside of Fish/Minter (Harbs disciples) that PSU had. Think right now key for us is to do a deep dive inside program and start getting rid of anything related to Harbaugh regime, despite how that looks for wins and losses next few years.

On polymarket the odds on him surged to 40% at one point late today then shortly thereafter they plummeted back to 3% or so
You guys are reading too much into Polymarket etc.

I saw guys on Friday saying Dilly was a done deal. Patience grasshoppers ;).

Perhaps he was given a courtesy call but he's not even near consideration. No one of consequence has even mentioned him.

Hell I got a call that said spam but it was from 734 area code. Should I take it if it happens again?

I'm ready for this

I'll pop back here later tomorrow or early Monday to discuss things.

Not a lot happening today other than potential extension talk with Dillingham. Someone close to their program said he signed an MOU this morning.

Obviously nothing could/would happen with KDB until after the playoff game. A win would take him out of play I would think. Portal and next playoff game too close to each other. That's just my opinion but one I would hope they are cognizant of.

As far as KDB, in my scrolling I was Twink mention that was done. Not exactly. Do remember that timing was everything in January of 2024. Kalen wanted to go to UM... Saban suddenly retired and Jim wasn't starting the NFL carousel for a week or two. If Nicky hadn't retired then DeBoer is likely already here. We talked about that then.

And, trust me, there are questions about each candidate. KDB doesn't exactly make the traditional Mich '3 yards and a cloud of dust' beam with excitement!

Dilly is very young and although coaching experience he isn't as seasoned. He has the most upside, potentially. Is he fine leaving the nest, so-to-speak.

Jedd is a guy we loved as passing game coordinator under Jim in 2015. He left because he wants to run his own offense. That was a mistake for UM. He's really rallied UW nicely since Kalen left the cupboard half full. But, he seems to move around a lot and the wife prefers warmer climates.

Jesse Minter is a future star coach at any level he wants. He led a champ defense in college and has been very successful with the Chargers so far. Incredible defensive numbers until injuries. But, he's not coming here with this AD, in most people's opinion. Also, he would be a flight risk.

Dream scenario is Warde gets gifted, Jesse comes back to A2 and he privately commits to 7 years (like Harbaugh did in 2015).

Any of these 4 are a huge upgrade and a nice chance to rectify the lack of a coaching cycle in 2024.

Yes if KDB wins on friday it would be extremely surprising to see you guys waiting until after 1/1 and who knows how long to pry him away from title town.

Not me haha.

The only thing I've been as sure as I could be on, was that LK was going to lsu and I was fairly certain Chesney would not be hired by penn state and would then pivot to ucla.

Other than that there have been quite a few surprises.

Zero pressure on Jedd.

I can't comment on where he is on the list but I would think 3rd or 4th.

He'll accept the job if offered, more than likely.
Its got to be Minter its the right thing for all involved especially since I opened an account on Kalshi just to make this bet.

Looks like I'm about the only one who thinks Minter will be the guy but I will up my "trade" if @B.A.R. sees it as a real possibility and lets us know.
