There are a lot of moving parts these next several weeks into the New Year. .

With so many changes already and plenty more to come, we might as well do a dedicated thread such as our Black Monday thread in the NFL.

Feel free to post whatever you are hearing, saying etc.

We've seen Indiana and Nebraska extend their coaches. I'd imagine that due to so many openings, especially Penn State.

From what I've been reading tonight ...

Still a lot of buzz from one guy I follow about Hartline to Penn State.

Vandy coach Lea will be popular.

Va Tech seems to be more and more popular for Frames.

Does Lane leave?

Memphis coach make the next step?

Tulane coach is another popular name.

What about guys who've been sitting out for a bit?

Does someone bite on BK?

Word on PSU is these five right now: Brohm, Key, Elko, Hartline, Diaz

I hope they go after who they think is the best fit and not who makes the biggest splash

Would love to see Coach O back at LSU but don't see that happening.

Lane is the biggest domino, and then the guys at their alma mater (Brohm, Lea, Key, Dillingham). If those guys all stay put, we'll see a lot more coordinators get a shot and, because there are so many more big name openings than big name candidates, some reaches to G5 head coaches ("well, at least he's been a head coach before so it's less likely to get me fired in 2-3 years."). For everyone of those 5 that moves, I'd expect them to generate about 2.5 moves or more in the trickledown. The entire thing is fascinating, esp when you consider the cast of characters at the top program open (LSU) involved in going after the biggest candidate who is also great at a presser.

Based on what I've heard around here, and knowing how AU does things, I will bet they hire one of three guys: Sumrall, Durkin, or Charles Kelly. If it's one of the last 2, I would expect that they will be looking for another head coach in 3 -4 seasons. Sumrall I think could do well there

LSU named its President and Chancellor today. I’ve intentionally avoided the rumor mill so far because I think it’s a few weeks before any real smoke appears, but this was the first step.

And it looks the President’s first item of business was to remove the interim tag from the interim AD. All decision makers are now in place.

Hartline is an interesting guy but I don't think that should be a first job for any head coach.

Lane is going to the Dolphins.

Mario supposedly has a 61 million dollar buyout which I don't believe for one second but short of him being convicted of a violent crime he will be allowed to destroy a once great program for as long as he likes.

Assuming Brian Kelly is who you are referring to as BK yeah I still think he's a good coach and he should get another shot.

I'll continue pushing Jeff Lebby who would be a fantastic hire for one of the bigger jobs.

Diaz lol that is way below what Penn State should be looking for.

I had forgotten about the end of the Durkin tenure at MD......woof.

Elko? He is an alum?

Also,

What happ to the ultra hot nfl coaching rumors surrounding Lincoln riley?

That guy went to USC and we never heard about him again

Fickell staying at Wisconsin is quite the surprise!!
In this market, I think using what you would pay in buyout money can be better utilized by improving the roster for most programs. I think Wisconsin realized that who they would end up with after LSU, Florida, Penn St, AU, and the fallout from those hires, would leave them with some pretty slim pickings

Brian Kelly was fucking around with a well known LSU former coach’s daughter, pretty quickly when he moved here.
That’s the angle from what I’ve heard. The cause is that kind of shit….they just don’t want to pay it all(donors)

And? Don't think that's illegal.

We’d have to explore the “morality clause” or see the contract but it was first reported the number was 25 million….i think that was preliminary and BK has decided to go for it all.

I’m not in these rooms just shit I hear

If Lane leaves Oxford, it will be for the NFL IMO. At one time, I think he would leave for Alabama, but even that may not get him out of there now. It's a moot point because Alabama would never hire him until either several people are dead, or we got so desperate that they'd do anything to become relevant again

I've been saying he'd end up with the Dolphins but I'd forgive Woody for being a forever jackass if he would hire Lane for the Jets but that would never happen. Really the best thing would be for him to stay where he is but who knows how he feels.

IMO the purpose of life as a married man with children is to put your family in the best possible position to succeed.

More often than not, those opportunities come with money.

It is simply a fact of life. It is not universal, but it is pretty close.

LANE is playing chess.

He is talking about family and how much Oxford means to him.

This is to make LSU and Florida believe he is more grounded and tethered to Oxford than he truly is.

It is a leveraging chip to extract more money from potential suitors.

It will work and I am 95% sure he leaves Oxford.

CURT C's agent is playing Chess too.

Only $15M for another school to buy him out of the extended contract?

That is very inexpensive this day and age.

I am more than 50% sure CURT leaves IU for greener pastures.

He is 64 years old.

This in all likelihood is his last chance to get a massive opportunity and I believe it is better than a coinflip that he takes it.

A lot of depends, imo, on whether he believes he can continue to win the portal battles for kids as great as QB Mendoza.

But LANE ? He is as good as gone. He has shown that is extremely ambitious. Good on him.

I think that CAT is going to GET PAID massively wherever he goes, LSU or FLORIDA.

Very smart of him to say what he did.

If he says he is considering other options, he risks losing his team's attention to what is ahead of them which is a clear path to the CFP if they beat Messy State in the Egg Bowl on Friday 11/28.

Also, if he says he is considering other options, it potentially brings a lower offer from LSU, Florida, the NFL...

His best move for the success of his team and to maximize leverage with offers from potential suitors, is to say that he is content and happy with what they are doing in Oxford.

He is no rookie. He knows how to play the game.

He answered the question beautifully. Threaded the needle. Kudos to him. He has really come a long way since 2007 when he was only 32 years old and was named the Raiders head coach.

He is a wonderful success story and again I am 95% certain he leaves Oxford for either LSU or Florida, not the NFL.

I believe it will be LSU.

They have the foundation for success built in.

2003 national title under Saban.
2007 national title under Miles.
2019 national title under Orgeron.

17 seasons inclusive from '03 to '19 with three different coaches, they won the Natty.

The material is there within the state, to get it done and he can cement himself as the most accomplished head football coach in Baton Rouge history.

I believe he will take it.........

I have no idea what Lane will do, but I do know Ole Miss is prepared to offer him a significant raise to put him in the same neighborhood as Elko, Dabo, and Lincoln Riley. Ole Miss may not be Texas/Texas A&M in terms of financial resources, but they are not financially insolvent. He can win 9 or 10 games a year in Oxford and make bank/make the playoffs once every 2 or 3 years and he will be treated like a god in Oxford. 9-3 won’t cut it in Baton Rouge or Gainesville. These fan bases believe they should be back in the Urban Meyer years or have a multi generational talent like Joe Burrow every year and win 11 games every year. Florida/LSU are not Ohio St and Georgia even though their fan bases think they are. These fan bases are delusional and expectations will be so unreasonably high that Kiffin will get shit canned from Florida or LSU within 4 years. Mark my words! If he has a half a brain and doesn’t give in to his enormous ego, he should stay in Oxford. Just my two cents.

I hear you.

Why not offer him the money right now then to get ahead of the money he is going to be offered by LSU, Florida, and the NFL ?

IU gave Cignetti the extension a month ago.

A&M is working on the extension with Elko as we speak.

Why not back up the truck with Lane and put him up there with these guys immediately?

Top-paid college football coaches

It *usually* comes down to the $$$.

A massive contract offer from LSU, Florida, or the NFL, even if he gets canned in 4 years, will set up his family for multiple generations.

It usually comes down to the money, and I completely get it.

It is Capitalism, it is the American Dream, and it is a beautiful thing!!!!

I don’t disagree!!! 😁

Seems Iike there is some momentum between Eli Drinkwitz and AU. Could be agent leak type stuff, so I'm not confident there is mutual interest, though the AU on3 mods indicate that he's emerging as a more serious candidate

I think that would be a mediocre hire at best.
