Weekend Weather

Just an FYI for anyone contemplating Texas tomorrow...it rained, again, here this morning, a lot. Up to 15 inches in some places, the city is shut down including the airport. As of now, the team is still stuck there after planning on leaving at 8 AM today. No idea when they will leave. Fortunately. it's a night game in Ames tomorrow. Just an FYI.

One of my fellow co-workers down in the hill country sent a mail out to the troops this a.m. Subject: Caution in Austin

It has been insane here today. And for a place that is used to massive rain events, that's saying something.

Possibility they may shut the airport down, that would create issues for the team getting out obviously. No word on whether that's going to happen.

From BurntOrangeNation:

But even if the Horns manage to get out of Austin during the late afternoon on Friday with the weather expected to clear for several hours, it may not be the last time that the team deals with the wider effects of the system that caused the torrential downpours in Texas.
Increasing cloudiness in Iowa is supposed to give way to showers in Ames beginning late Friday night and continuing into the morning. By game time, the prediction is for cool and partly cloudy weather with 10 mph winds and the hope is that the previous precipitation won't be heavy enough to impact the field conditions.
Jack Trice Stadium has twice received College Football Field of the Year awards from the Sports Turf Managers Association and was recently named the No. 1 natural grass field in college football, so as long as the rainfall isn't heavier than predicted, the footing on the field should be fine when the Horns and Cyclones kick off.

The plane left Austin tonight at 7:30-ish.

This is going to be a tight game to begin with, last thing we needed was to spend the day in Austin.

Lots of good info, Frank, thanks for posting. Looks like there's gonna be some strong winds and rain/snow to watch this weekend.

:cheers3:

Frank, thanks for the link. It looks there's other good stuff there in addition to the weather stuff.

On the weather piece, they do get pretty specific. Comforting to see that there's only a 2% chance of rain in Happy Valley this weekend.
