Week One B1G Thread...

Maryland game notes had me double check this stat for NC State transfer DE Joseph Boletepeli:

• 6-4 • 260 • SO-TRTransfer from NC StatePlayed in three games for the Wolfpack in 2018 Totaled over 200 career tackles, 60 TFL and 21 sack

It fails to mention those stats were from high school. For a few minutes there I was like "how the hell this dude accumlate 200 tackles in just one year at NCSt!

According to the gamenotes depth chart, Northwestern starting LT will be either True Freshman Peter Skoronski or RS Fr Zachary Franks. Skoronski was projected to be an interior OL, but NW reportedly recruited him to play tackle and Franks is a 3 star who redshirted last year, not sure he saw any game time.

Starting a True at LT who played without any spring and an unusual fall camp could be interesting. Skoronski is the 4th or 5th (depending on recruiting service) highest player ever signed by NW.

That is the spot that opted-out Rashawn Slater would be manning.

Fwiw...

And I can understand not wanting to have money tied up right now...

And, I doubt that any team in the B1G plays all their games...

But...

I was able to get a little bit down on MSU under 3.5 when it was re-released after new schedule came out. I played some more on U3 as well...

No way this team goes .500 if they play all of their schedule. They are not good, as we have discussed.

PSU and OSU are auto-losses. UM is almost for sure an auto-loss.

Rutgers is really the only 'gimmie' and I am not so sure of that (if you made me bet, I would take the points).

I see them as a 2-6 team...maybe get that 3rd game but I doubt it.

You might feel uncomfortable with it after this weekend but I think it is solid play even at 3 -115.

Welcome to the Mel Tucker era.

agree 100, no idea how they get to 4 wins. Zero
clue. Mountains would have to move.

?... BOL has Sparty o/u at 3. No specification if all 8 games have to be played for action and no specification on game 9, not yet announced. Anyone know how that would work before I throw down?

Any respectable would cancel bet right, right?

I’ll stop assuming anything considering they were shut down last week. Odd there’s no clarification. The ninth game to me is bigger ? and knowing they’ll probably match up with Illinois but not knowing for sure whom they are playing, seems kind of important to factor in.

One of my bets stipulates the 9th game counts

Generally, conference "championship" games do not count but that is stipulated. Now, I should have noted that earlier. I simply have that as a near PK game more likely than not and can hedge/live bet if need be.

Rumor going around that Rondale been in street clothes for ten days..
Might have torn hammy?

The current totals at BetOnline specify that teams must complete 9 games (includes the Championship crossover week) by 1/1/2021 and play all 8 teams on the schedule as set forth by the B1G on 9/19/2020 but they do not have to play the teams in the exact order. Hope that helps!

FWIW, I played the Huskers under 5 for a couple units and then read rules about week 9 stipulation. Still feel good about the play but I am glad I didn't "max" play it prior to reading the rules. Curent number is Under 4 -140, so I got nice value.

Good luck!

Saw a couple things on Nebraska. They will start a rFr RT in Bryce Benhart with Frost saying "he's going to learn on the fly". Also the #1 JC WR which signed with Nebraska Omar Manning may not travel for this week's game. One of the sheets in Mark Money's Newsletter thread said that other WRs were "iffy" including WanDale Robinson. But I don't see any Robinson news in the recent news articles.

I think I saw a @cubsker update on Manning earlier on the twidda

Purdue DB DJ Johnson (Iowa transfer) is eligible and will play Saturday. He started 3 games at Iowa as a rFr last year and Purdue can use him as they replace 3 starters from last year's team. I thought I had read elsewhere he hadn't been cleared.

Illinois was hoping to count on OL Blake Jeresaty a transfer from Wofford (1st Tm AA at FCS), but he has had shoulder surgery and is out the year.

Also for Illinois, Cal transfer Chinedu Udeogu (27 games at Cal) is no longer with Illini. He was expected to contribute to a DL that lost all 4 starters from last year.

Benhart starting at RT is not a surprise. He was our top OL recruit, army all-american, played in a few games while redshirting last year. All 5 starters returned, so we're choosing to bench one so this kid can play.

Manning was rumored to be leaving. Sounds like some mental health issues. New OC/WR coach Lubick apparently saved it for now. We had some minor injuries with several WR earlier in camp, including wandale, but I think we're healthy there now from what I've heard.

With 9 games counting, over 4 seems solid to me.

Interesting (only the messenger, B.A.R.)

Brad Powers: Since 2006, Michigan is 1-20 on the road vs ranked teams losing by an average of 15 ppg and 6-15 ATS failing to cover by 8 ppg?

Absolutely correct.

The 2008-2014 teams were abysmal and since 2015 look at the list of those losses. Tough teams, tough venues.

Look at PSU under Franklin, very similar.

Fwiw, and I won't be around tomorrow...will have a quick write-up tonight ..

But I think we see points tomorrow...slight lean to over in Minny.

Shawn Williams from Gopher Report

“Been a lot of rumors swirling around both [redshirt sophomore right guard Curtis Dunlap and junior right tackle Daniel Faalele],” he said. “Nothing has been confirmed, but I wouldn't expect either of them to play. Considering the comments at [Golden Gopher head coach P.J.] Fleck's presser on Monday, there is a strong likelihood others could be out on Saturday whether it's injuries, COVID positives, or opt-outs. Minnesota hasn't released a depth chart yet, so Fleck isn't showing his hand just yet.”

We betting UM?

I thought Illinois would have some better success passing, they didn't except for a couple 2nd H back shoulder throws. Their best plays otherwise were Peters QB runs.

Wisconsin Run D stout as typical.

UW rush O looks pretty average right now. Not very explosive from RB position. Obviously Mertz had a terrific night, but other than their TE I don't think they are anything special on the outside. Not like they ever are, but seem ordinary at WR.

Just your typical Wisconsin 45-7 win I guess.

There were two 4th and short calls that didn't get reviewed. One very favorable for UW that I don't think he got back to the LOS and one for ILL that may've been a little past the yard marker to gain, they spotted it on the yard marker to gain and was 1" short. Didn't matter in the final per se, but UW went on for pts on their drive and ILL didn't get pts on theirs. Again, even take the UW TD away from that drive and give ILL one from their drive...that would be 38-14 F. Hardly a difference making thing, but odd they didn't even review either of those.

UW kicked a FG with like 1min left from the I03 to make the game go over.

Thanks for this

@BAR does Harbaugh have a lifetime job? It’s that what you’re saying?
I wouldn't say lifetime but he's not on a hot seat in a 8 game pandemic season.

Ideally, IMO, they'd groom Gattis as head coach in waiting. I don't think Jim will coach till he's old...young kids at home...big family guy (you can tell in his demeanor last few years ..softer...some might say too soft).

It's different here, obviously they want to win but they will only do it their way and they love what he's done with the student athletes here. They are prospering (this isn't a football factory and never will be).

Should be a fun day...

Lean over in Minny ..

Lean Rutgers ...

Honestly about it.

Gonna DVR the games and scout early in week to have a better idea of what to expect.

Good luck to everyone today.

Who is expected to start at QB for Rutgers? They rolling out Sitkowski again or is it Vedral?

Wisky got the benefit of the doubt all night. As you said those calls and others weren’t necessarily the difference in the getting the cash, but it felt like every time Illinois had the tiniest bit of momentum a call or spot went against them - and I get that’s largely because they aren’t very good.

I laid 26 with Ohio State. I'm expecting a great offensive line, playmakers all over the place at WR and one of the country's top QBs piloting the offense. The RB position is maybe a little weak with Oklahoma transfer Trey Sermon coming off a knee injury and last year's back-up Master Teague sharing the load.

Defensively, I don't think OSU will have the kind of DL that you've seen in recent years but they will still be good. A lot of experience back at LB and the defensive backs have Wade as a lockdown corner and plenty of talent behind him. I don't think the defense is overall on par with last year's bunch but not sure that they have to be great until the playoffs.

They normally put it on the Huskers and I don't know why they wouldn't here. Only a few thousand will be in the 'Shoe. OSU's team has had zero Covid issues reported.

I'd be surprised if they don't hang half a hundred on the Huskers which means they can give up a few touchdowns and still get enough margin.

nebraska will put up points in this game id look to the over. this defense is green and Corn has some weapons. ill also answer another question from a different post.... Wade is better than advertised and id almost argue that he was/is better than Jeff was last year. his development was stunted his freshman year from injuries but he absolutely loves ohio state and thats why he came back. hes the best corner in the country this year make no mistake.

Better than Stingley? Not sure about that
