Richmond QB Snelsire was a definite boost to the offense, but his inexperience might've been the difference (3 INTs including game sealing INT down 5 thrown from B20). Biggest surprise from this game was how much of an effective running game Bucknell was able to generate (46att-212-4.6).
Lehigh avenges one of their 2024 losses. Mountainhawks got off to a fast start (TD-TD), Yale did not (punt-punt-punt). Yale O did find some life later but were already in a hole.
CCSU plays in so many games like this, close, late lead changes and somebody wins in the final minute. Was another one vs SHU. CCSU led 20-7, then trailed 20-21! 4 lead changes 4Q, onto OT, CCSU scores, SHU does not.
One of the Pioneer flag bearers goes down to an improved Marist team! Marist had 1 win last year, has 3 this year. The first 2 were vs weak teams, but beating a decent San Diego is something. SD took away the run, so the Red Fox turned to the pass and connected on 2 long TDs and the Marist D shut down the SD O, just 2 good drives all game and 3.5ypp.
If you had most Stonehill-Duquesne Overs in the 40s you were in for a treat, if you had late numbers, oh so close. Duq scored a TD right before HT to keep hope alive despite being behind pace. It was only 27-7 early 4Q. Duq converted on a 4th-13 down to the SH05 and scored from there less than 7min to go. Exchange of punts. Less than 4min to go SH ball, they converted 4th-7, 4th-3 and scored TD :55 left to make it 34-14 F.
Bad beat or good luck in the Fordham-Lafayette game. Laf led 21-0, but Ford actually had a 405-402 ttl yard edge (5.3-6.3), but Laf won 24-10 as a little greater than 2 TD fav. Laf was SOD at the F19 early, threw INT from F29, had a 1st goal at the F02, but would kick a FG from there up 11 to make it a 14 pt game late 4Q and had a FD at the F22 after an INT, but would fail on 4th down from the F18 instead of kicking a FG. Granted, with all those yards, Fordham had plenty of blown opportunities for pts of their own (Fum L30, missed FG L15, FG from L08, ended game at L14)
Penn QB O'Brien passed with a 2-1 ratio and Dartmouth QB Saunier was 0-2 and Dartmouth was -2 TOs which were impactful in Penn's 39-24 win as Quakers turned both INTs into pts plus a muffed punt was recovered at the D19 setting up a short Penn TD drive and late game Penn had a great punt return for a short field FG. Dartmouth had led the game 14-0. It got tied 17-17 and Dartmouth had a penalty on a punt requiring them to punt again and this time a bad snap went over the Punter's head for a safety and Penn never trailed from there. Dartmouth outgained them slightly 326-323 (4.9-5.1), but that was about 150 yard below Dartmouth's early season per game average.
Villanova outgained UNH 461-207 (6.8-4.3)!
Tennessee Tech maybe started a little slow, it was just 24-17 mid 2Q, but TTU scored the next 28 unanswered including a pick-six in the 66-20 route.
Stetson beat a Dl team for the first time this year and Davidson has yet to beat one. The lead changed often until Stetson got up by 11 after Dave was SOD near midfield about 2min to go and Stet went down to score. Dave hit a 58y TD pass on 4th-16 to make it a 3pt game :37, but could not recover the onside kick. Earlier in the game Dave fumbled into the EZ for a touchback instead of a touchdown.
Dayton led 28-0 HT, but Morehead had a 28pt 3Q! Game was tied until very late 4Q when the Fliers got a TD for the win.
Drake only had 334y (5.4), but held Valpo to only 105 TOTAL yards (1.7). Somehow Valpo actually had 11 first downs still on that yardage (4 were by penalty) - and Drake sacked them 7x for a loss of 40y (13 TFL for 66y).
Mercyhurst is done with their tour of FCS power programs and handled LIU who was back to starting their 3rd string QB Howell. LIU's F5 drives of the game netted only 30 yards!
Merrimack was a DD fav hosting Robert Morris and only led 10-7 entering the 4Q, but scored 2 TDs in the final quarter for the 24-7 win. RM had 92y on their first possession then 129 the rest of the game.
The thing about Georgetown's win vs Morgan, all opinions aside, it was a fantastic throw, catch and one of those finishes you only get in college football. BUT, here is the thing, Morgan could've done more to ensure it never happened. Morgan's D had just sacked the Hoya QB 3 of the last 4 plays including a 4th down, so Morgan is taking over at the G42 and GT has 2 timeouts 1:25 to go. They go through the first 3 plays and it's 4th-3 about :40 left clock running. Morgan throws a go-route down the sideline 35 yards which is incomplete...hello?! How about a nice play to try and pickup the first down? You know, so you can then take a knee and win the game (and keep it Under). To throw the ball deep in that situation makes zero sense, it wasn't like they had like :05 left and were just trying to get the final seconds off the clock. As bad as that situation was to watch, here comes Dez Thomas, the guy we have seen suck for 3 straight games. Throws several awful passes as he typically does. Then with :07 to go he throws a strike 50y into the EZ and Kibble makes it over the hand of the defender (jumped too soon or it would've been knocked down) for the kind of finish nobody will forget for a very long time.
I like doing this, but will have to wrap it up. Traveling this week. Will have week 7 thread up tonight.
