Week 6 in the FCS

The mystery line should be in next roll out, could Lafayette actually be favored at Princeton?

This was the most satisfying day yet, I love everything about FCS action and don't miss or need or want the FBS back!

Only 8 upsets today, down from 20 last week! I count 27 dogs to 22 favs with 1 Push (SUU) - pending one game still going, SFA-LIT

So great to see Princeton sacked for a safety on a 3 man rush to seal that game. Princeton OL Sucks, Princeton Sucks! Unders 14-0 run in Princeton games - it got bet up to 39 (oh no you didn't). Lafayette - can they win the Patriot?

HC -27, Bucknell +31 was just tits

I lost pretty big on Fordham ATS, like I don't even know how to explain what I saw out of Lehigh today. Bovada put up some Live FCS today, Lehigh and Fordham was one of them, an thankfully for me, I made some fairly risky ML bets on Fordham. Kind of an improbable finish, but one that makes me very happy.

I saw a camera feed from the Hampton sideline today with a flashing low battery icon on my TV screen, during a Division l college football game, that broadcast was using a portable hand-held camera like I use for my grandkids, awesome!

Kennesaw is on a 5 game losing streak! Will they make them a favorite again next week? No, they have double byes and finish with two Dll teams and Sam Houston

NDSU was beautiful

Mercer has covered two in a row! It was ugly, they aren't good

Western Carolina - Chattanooga was pretty unreal

Jackson St led 38-7 then pretty much did everything they could on Offense in the 4Q to try and not cover that game. Thankfully the D had other ideas.

SEMO has their hearts ripped out again! They are on 0-3 skid and have trailed those games for a grand total of 30 SECONDS! Just unbelievable

Southern Illinois deserves praise for the start to the year they had, however, they had 217 yards of O in one of their wins, were shut out in the 1H of one of their other wins and today failed to score a TD. So they have some issues

Southern Utah scores game winning TD on a fumble return scoop-score while Tarleton was trying to kill clock - that is the third time just that I know of that has happened this year

FAMU is now 0-3 ATS as a favorite

Idaho basically started taking figurative kneel downs towards the end of the 3Q in a 35-7 game. So of course Cal Poly is going to score and cover this game. Well, Cal Poly QB has ball slip out of his hand, fumble recovery at CP27 with 3:33 left. Idaho continues with their straight ahead runs, until they face a 3rd down, throw an outlet pass and run into the EZ, win that game by 28 baby (and send it over some totals). About as improbable cover as I have seen this year.

Dude. 3rd down 2 minutes to go. Idaho runs the cover play. Wild. Yeah they went to their backups waaaaay early. Like 10 minutes left in the 3rd 2nd team offense was in their running handoff only. It was nuts.

That line was odd too. Like when it came out 27/27.5 I'm pretty sure right? You had 27, I had 27.5. There were some 28s around, I may've seen a 28.5, but a lot of places still had 27.5 before kick off. The type of team Idaho is, the type of team Cal Poly is the way that all these FCS lines move, especially with power teams, I thought for sure that line would've been over 31 everywhere at least. Weird.

LOL, Virginia Lynchburg, who bad FCS teams call when they want a win. So bad that their SID stopped updating their schedule/results. SC State won 56-6 today and even everyone's whipping boy Delaware St beat them 48-10

William & Mary recovered a fumble and ran it down to the V04 and led 13-3 2Q when they then fumbled at the UVA 21 with :55 left in the 1H. UVA was able to score a TD with :07 on the clock and shut out W&M in the 2H ending the game on a 24-0 run. W&M's final two drives were SOD at the V10 and V20. UVA outgained them 453-219 (6.4-3.8).

Long Island led 14-0, but SHU came back 14-10. LIU stretched it to 23-10, 23-13 3Q. SHU's final two drives were SOD at L37 and missed FG from L27. The total yards were only 204 for LIU (3.5) to 275 for SHU (3.8).

Brown came into today having not turned the ball over once in 3 games this year. That ended today as two INTs ended Brown drives, a deep pass INT at the R13 and one at the R27 essentially bookended the game as URI hung on for the 34-30 win. Brown had statistical edges - 30-16 FD, 444-389 TY (4.6-6.8), 172-167 RY (5.1-6.2) and 57-38 3rd down %, 37-23 TOP. Brown however only scored 2 TDs on 5 RZ trips.

Marist and Columbia played in heavy rain at times. Columbia shut them out 16-0 but with just a 287-237 TY edge. They comined for 7 TOs in the game.

Morehead upset Dayton at home 31-7, but TY were just 385-322 (5.8-4.4). Dayton missed a FG, fumbled at the M04, threw an INT from the M05 in the 1H. In the 2H they lost a total of 3 more TOs. Counting a possession Morehead took over deep in Dayton territory where the punt were stopped short on a 4th down run, they had 10 pts off turnovers.

Lafayette was only able to put two scoring drives together at Princeton. Princeton trailed 9-10 due to a missed xpt and would fumble at the L20, punt from the L36 (downed at the 5) and missed a FG from the L20 on successive drives in the 3Q/4Q. Lafayette downed their own punt inside the 5 with just a couple minutes yet. Because of that Lafayette was able to record their 7th sack of the day for a safety to win 12-9. Princeton outgained them 313-265 (5.1-4.3)

Dartmouth was dominating Yale early and was poised to take a 14-0 lead, but instead the Elis got a 70y pick-six to tie! Yale would lead 10-7, but Dartmouth went back up 14-10. Yale took a 17-14 HT lead and would never trail again although Dartmouth tied twice in the 2H, 17-17 and 24-24. Yale led 31-24 and Dartmouth's final two possessions ended in INTs. Dartmouth did outgain them 368-275 (5.1-5.6). Dartmouth -4 TOs. Yale only converted 2 of their 10 3rd downs (no 4th down attempts).

St Thomas attempted just 8 passes deciding to stick to the ground where they ran for 229 (5.2) on Butler. St Thomas would lead 17-3 after 3Q before Butler got their first and only TD in the 4Q. In the final minutes Butler had a drive start at their own 25 make it all the way to the ST01 with :08 to go, but in 3 plays they could not get it in and time expired on a failed 4th down pass attempt. St Thomas outgained them 300-262 (5.8-4.0)

Holy Cross led by 10 twice in the 1H before they stretched it to 34-14 HT. It was "just" 48-27 when HC ripped a 70y TD run with 4min left to make the score 55-27. HC outgained them 574-400 (8.2-5.6)

Merrimack led Stonehill 17-6 HT and later 31-6 entering the 4Q. Final was 45-34 (42 pt 4Q). Merrimack only outgained them 356-329 (6.8-4.5) as Stonehill's final 4 drives netted 281 yards and 28 pts.

Presbyterian led 14-0, but by HT Stetson had tied 14-14. Presbyterian again took a DD lead 24-14 early 4Q, but Stetson scored TDs on 2 of their final 3 drives to win 28-24.

Central Connecticut State led 21-6 HT, but as part of a 3Q that would see 40 pts, Delaware St led 26-21 and it would be tied 41-41 mid 4Q. CCSU scored 10 unanswered before DSU kicked a FG in the final minute to make it 51-44 F. CCSU had a 584-426 TY edge (7.8-7.3).

Lehigh put up a season high in yards (390) and pts (35) and Fordham was fortunate to escape with the win on a walk-off FG. The offenses combined to score on 6 of 9 1H possessions with Lehigh leading 21-17 HT. Fordham came out swinging 2H, going up 24-21 and had a FD at the L20 when they ruled Fordham fumbled which the one or two cameras in the stadium could not overturn on replay, coupled with a penalty put Lehigh out at midfield and 5 plays later Lehigh was back up 28-24. Fordham would be SOD early 4Q and Lehigh went down the field to take a 35-24 lead! But Fordham scored and got the 2pt to make it 35-32. Fordham tied with under 2min to go, 34-34. Lehigh punted from midfield with :52 left. It was 3rd down at the F19 with just :24 left when they got a 21y run out to the F40 (no timeouts) and it shifted from trying to not give Lehigh the ball back to trying to get in position to win the game. A 22y (out of bounds) and a 11y (out of bounds) pass with just :01 left set them up for a 45y FG. The K made it which was career long for the dramatic 38-35 win.

Georgetown scored first, but Penn reeled off 17 straight then led 20-13 HT. GT was INT'd to open the 3Q, but Penn had to punt which was downed at the G01 ultimately leading to a Penn safety. Penn would have leads of 29-13 and 36-20, but GT kept coming back. 36-28 early 4Q, then GT went on a 18p 86y 7min drive for a TD and a 2pt conv to tie 36-36! Penn amazingly attempted a 62y FG which wasn't short by much with :18 left, but it gave GT the ball at the G45. They nearly had a completion to put them in FG range themselves, but instead it would go to OT. GT went backwards having to reover a fumble and then made a 49y FG top of OT1. 4 plays later Penn was in the EZ for the win. GT outgained them 421-400 (5.3-6.7).

Mid 1Q Wofford appeared poised to strike first with a FG at the S26 but would have a FG blk'd. After some more punts, Samford finally broke through with a TD, then a FG to open the 2Q and a 10-0 lead. Wofford made it 10-3 but that was as close as they would get. Samford led 24-3 HT and it was 31-3 to start the 4th. It took Wofford 12 plays with two 4th down conversions (one by penalty) for their TD, 31-10 which would be the Final. Samford outgained them 457-251 (5.3-4.2).

The Citadel opened with a long 14p 55y drive eating up nearly 8min, but were SOD at the F20. They threw INTs on 2 of their next 3 possessions while Furman built a 14-0 lead at HT and 28-0 3Q. Furman could've led by more, but were also SOD at the C18 then missed a FG. Citadel scored the final 14 pts of the game gaining 157 of their total yards on those drives for the 28-14 F. All told, Citadel turned it over 3x, twice in Furman territory and were SOD twice on that side of the field as well. Furman outgained them 345-278 (4.8-4.5). Citadel were awareded 5 FDs by penalty.

Drake led Valpo 17-0 before winning 20-14. Drake outgained them 313-275 (5.2-3.5).

Elon led 10-0 (both on short fields after 18 and 9 yard NCCU punts). Not on short fields, NCCU would score 3 TDs and lead 21-10 HT and extended to 28-10. It was 34-17 before Elon scored in the final 6min for the 34-23 F. NCCU did only have a 378-364 TY edge (6.3-4.9). NCCU D had 8 sacks of THREE different Elon QBs (14 TFLs)!

North Dakota held Western Illinois 100y below their season avg and better than half their scoring avg in the 49-10 UND win. UND only faced FOUR 3rd downs the entire game and converted three of them.

Lindenwood got their first shutout win since 2005, sparked by an opening KO return TD, they won 23-0. The teams combined for just 432 total yards of offense however. Lots of sacks by both, poor 3rd down O by both. Lindenwood QB Dugger was knocked out of the game with an apparent leg injury. Tenn Tech started Tr Fr QB Gibson who went 8-22-65-01, he was replaced with Potts who was no better, 4-12-57-0-0.

Campbell led Hampton 30-14 early 4Q. Each team had a SOD possession in the RZ. Hampton would score the final 13 pts, their last score with just :58 left. The onside kick was close, but Campbell got it. Each team leaned more on their run game with over 40 attempts each and each ran for over 200y with Hampton having the better 5.8 ypc to Campbell's 4.6.
