Week 6: Eastbound and down

YTD 18-23

Snapped up a couple last night when I got my crack at the lines. Took Bobcats -6 and Maryland +15. I can get into either if you guys want...but basically Bobcats off a double bye with a march to the MAC East starting at Akron. I think the ground game will steamroll Akron. Md bet is on their potent offense vs. a FSU def that hasn't impressed me to stay inside 2 TDs.

Week 6 card:

Ohio -6 for 1 unit
Maryland +15 for 1 unit, +17 for half unit (-120)
OSU/NW over 60 for 1 unit
Iowa +1 for 1 unit, pk for 1 unit (-120)
N Texas -3 for 1 unit (-120)

Utah St under 24 2h for half unit (-120) W

Injuries to Bobcats OL is concerning but plenty of practice time to jell and Powell and Smith were back at practice.

Dont play a lot of totals but took Buckeyes over 60 when I saw it. Tough matchup for OSU defense with Bryant out and Roby banged up and holding his back vs Wisky. NW offense is quick tempo and chuck it around and I think they will have some success vs OSU. Urban played hide the football vs Wisky last week because Bucks were up 17 and facing a team that couldn't score quickly. Not going to be the same dynamic with NW.
On offense, OSU finally has all the weapons in place and Braxton or KG should be able to have their way. Only way it stays under is a bunch of turnovers in the red zone. Weather report is 30 percent rain, don't like it but not too worried.

Took Iowa +1 as well. They manhandled a Minnesota team that impressed me vs. San Jose. Ferentz at home vs. a lackluster offense must have him kicking his chops. I will bet Ferentz vs Jim Bollman anytime.

Wind impacts scoring more than rain in my opinion unless its a monsoon. 14mph wind forecasted. Not bad for Chicago.

Lets talk NIU/Kent...Flashes catching 9

Of course, this is a repeat of the MAC championship game where Kent rallied late to force double OT and NIU won by 7.
NIU did a nice job on Archer in that game by basically having 2 guys follow him around most of the game...Kent was somewhat lucky to force OT as NIU had a decent lead into the fourth but then had a freakish turnover...momentum swing etc.

I know that you can look at NIU and say WOW they beat two BIg Ten teams, but the other side of the coin is that they barely beat a putrid Idaho team and barely beat Eastern Illinois.

I lean to Kent in this game and its mainly because NIU is not nearly as good on defense this year as last year. I point to the Idaho game as a classic example...Idaho had 2 TDs in their first 2 games, and they hung 35 on NIU and had 447 yards of offense. The game was tied at 35 late in the third.

I think Kent will be able to play ball control and pound Durham between the tackles especially since Archer is going to have 2 guys following him around the whole game if NIU does the same thing as MAC championship game. That will shorten the game and lessen the amount of possessions. Kent seems ot have a capable QB and getting back McShane at guard as well as Archer last game really helped the run game as they rushed for 276 on Western. Durden is back as well in the rotation at RB.

NIU has a potent offense there is no doubt, and there is a chance that NIU could steamroll on offense. But I do think that Nix and the DL can slow down NIU at least a little bit playing at home with what should be a good crowd and revenge from last year on their mind…. It’s also kind of a bad spot for NIU playing fourth game in five on the road while Kent finally gets to play at home.

I think this one is decided late so Kent catching 9 seems generous. I am still mulling it over but I would have Kent or nobody here.

Buffalo -13.5 vs. E Michigan

Buffalo smacked the shit out of UConn last week and was within a hair of getting Ohio State in serious trouble in the season opener. They get EMU who got pounded bad enough by Ball State last week that they spent the bye week working on fundamentals, according to English. The most interesting thing about Buffalo's dominating win over UConn is that the passing got untracked with Licata throwing for a bunch of yards and 3 TDs...previously they hadn't done that much.

Buffalo OL held the Buckeyes to one sack and has protected very well with only 6 sacks in four games. I don't think E Michigan's undersized bunch will get any penetration.
E Michigan beat BUffalo in 2010 and 2011 and in fact Buffalo had NEVER beaten E Michigan so I don't think Buffalo will be looking past the Eagles as you might anticipate. E Michigan doesn't have much talent at the skill positions other than RB Bronson Hill and I have a hard time seeing them sustaining drives vs. All American Mack and a very tough underrated defensive crew. If EMU was some great passing team, maybe they could hang in this game but they aren't.

You play Buffalo or you sit this one out. Another one I'm mulling over.

Miami +3 vs. C Michigan. Horrible game. High variance. I wouldn't bet this game, it will be decided on turnovers. Play the under and don't watch the game is my only recc.

Ball State +5 vs. Va

I see that Walters is on Ball State, and it doesn't surprise me as Va. offense is just a mess and Ball State has been able to race up and down the field on not great competition so far (other than Toledo.) Ball State has a very accurate QB and a great running game but Va. defensively is a big step up in class. I leaned to Ball State originally but I am starting to wonder if they will have the same success vs. a Va. team that kept BYU bottled up in Charlottesville. The toher thign si that Ball State run D hasn't been very good and I think that plays into Va strength because their offense is such a mess its back to the basics of grind away.... If Ball State can score 20 or more they win this game, but can they do it?....I'm just not sure...I guess I still lean Ball State here...

BG-26 vs. U Mass

U Mass has scored 28 points in 4 games. They now go face the best defense in the MAC who held them to 118 yards last year. If they score 10 points here it would be a miracle. Only question is whether BG is going score enough to cover.
You can't possibly take U Mass. I actually kind of like the Under 51 as I expect U Mass to have 0-7 points.

First game in Conference USA for Mean Green means statement time. N Texas hung in the game with Ga. for 3 quarters, beat Ball State (in Denton) and came back on Ohio and made it a very good game. Ohio was a bit deceiving as Bobcats scored on a bomb first play from scrimmage and had a pick 6.
Mean Green very good on special teams with 2 TDs v Ga...Tulane gave up 88 yard punt return last week. Major edge to Mean Green.
QB Thompson is a third year guy with 260 a game passing and OL has almost everyone back from a group that gave up only 6 sacks last year. They are going to punch Tulane in the mouth.
Montana seems to be struggling-- 9/28 last week to Monroe for 65 yrds and 213 yards vs Cuse in a game where I assume they were throwing a lot down big. 4tds 3 picks in his last 3 games. Tulane home field is usually not much as they play in cavernous Superdome.

Yeah, E Michigan being undefeated vs. Buffalo and beating the seniors twice is a huge reason I think we see a focused performance. Someone brought up as well that they have an outstanding defensive player at each level DL, LB, DB. Steele had those guys listed as first/second team all MAC. Good luck to you as well brother
