Week 4 - What Are We Learning

- OU / Auburn was a violent and vicious game. Both teams are nasty defensively.
- OU gets a week off to recover. Auburn does not. Off its own bye take A&M on Saturday.
- Speaking of defense. Tech. I don't care if it was a 1/2 ass Utah offense. Tech used to give up points all over the place. Not anymore. Really disciplined and tackles well. The latter is just tell tale.
- Malik Washington can play. 19 years old and a true freshman that can beat you both ways at QB.
- Dabo was interesting in his weekly presser last week. Going to be even better this week I'm guessing.
- Coaches? Guessing Luke Fickell wishes he was still at Cincy, Wisconsin struggles to walk and chew gum at the same time.
- More coaching. You can't carry over timeouts to the 2H. Use or lose them. Clock management is just ridiculous now. Mack Brown-like.
- Even more coaching. IU got a great one. Saturday was more points that Knight's teams used to score. Illinois should be embarrassed. Even today.
- And, I'll miss Gundy.
- Baby steps for Arch. High school opposition but his passes found his teammate's hands instead of another zip code. We'll take it.

Arch in the Sam Houston kids face after that running TD was interesting. Letting out frustration?

That's what he and Sarkisian said. I thought it was weird but, then again, I'm not in his shoes and been exposed to what he has been.

As a Bama fan, I thought it was hilarious, but the officiating in that AU-OU game was so bad. The SEC has a real problem on it's hands with how bad and game altering some of these crews are.

I generally hate when officiating is blamed as it's a nauseating staple with Texas fans. But Auburn sure seemed to get the raw end of things. The TNR guys were saying this morning that Stoops said OU had practiced that deception play up to the point where another WR on the field was talking to trash to the Auburn DBs to help draw attention away from the WR standing next to the sideline.

And on the scoop and score McDonough nailed it: if you're taking that long to review a play then "indisputable", "clear" and "convincing" must not be part of the equation to overrule it.

I think that's what he meant.

Given where you've been with your play best that you just hand the ball to the official and go back to the bench. His mom even told him so later. Not a good look, at all.

I didn’t see much of this one what happened?

Pretty disappointed in Dampier. He looked slow, unsure, and short (could you have more passes batted down?) In other words, he looked like a quarterback that would've been at New Mexico.

Couldn't have been more impressed with the Texas Tech defense. It's still early, but that's as good of a unit as they've ever had. Oh and Hammond had some brass ones coming in playing the way he did.

That game and the Iowa game was about all I watched on D1. But it appears Cignetti is gonna be the big, bad bully, until a bigger one shows up later in the season.

Who is coaching Wisconsin next season?

Yeah, Hammond deserves more mention. Ice in his veins and wickedly good arm. Some of those throws...And he's a backup.

First, there were like 19 combined penalties. They overturned a fumble that AU returned for a TD that looked pretty suspect to me. On OU's first TD, the league office has put out a statement that the officials should have called a penalty for the OU WR "simulating substitution." I don't agree with the league's interpretation (the OU WR stayed on the field and even verified with the official that he was lined up appropriately), but I guess that's the rule. They missed a pretty obvious PI in the EZ on OU too. There were other pretty blatant no calls and weak calls and overturns for both sides. Just a complete clown show

So, we have enough proof now, Fickell is a really good non power 4 coach.

But, in the Big Ten, below average.

Quite interesting.

MSU fans wanted him badly.

I think we forget just how bad Miami was defensively last season. This year, a really nasty unit. I can't think of another team that has done such a 180 on either side of the ball. The Miami DC hire from Minnesota has been a good one to say the least.

Very good point on the Miami D.

As bad as Dampier looked the OL was even worse. I saw a few things against Wyo that worried me about the OL and they were glaring against TTU. The OL play dictated nothing but dink and dunk forcing the OC to call a pretty bad game imho. The one bomb they hit got called back due to the OT being 10 yards down field.

The defense kept them in it until about 7 min left then things got out of hand. Hammond was great no doubt but he got quite lucky on a few plays and if he sees more time I expect a few INTs.

Just one game but unless the OL improves Utah will be middle of the pack in the Big 12.

Odd thing is coaching staff continued to highlight this was the best OL they have had in their time here

I will always like Belichick in so many respects. But if there was ever any doubt what rules all men then this is hard evidence (pun intended).

In game Saturday. Wow.

This.

I was really betting a lot of overs, opposing TTs in their games last year.

Helluva turnaround.

Coming out now that Dampier was injured and didn't practice Tues or Wed last week. I'm so tired of Whittingham and these attempts to hide injuries. I'm expecting the Big12 to fine him as from what it sounds he broke the league rules.

Byrd Ficklin has looked really good in the limited time he's played. Why risk another guy's career like he did Rising? Play the healthy guy.

Wow man.

That at least makes me feel better about Utah as a whole. This takes nothing away from Tech though -- they were awesome.

Tell me more about the backup. Great name!

Lefty out of TX. A little thin still but has good instincts and he's already ahead of Wilson on the depth chart. I think he could be a player.

Forget his true first name but he goes by Byrd.
