Week 13 What Did We Learn

Rutgers and Purdue had identical total yardage 412 apiece, PU did have 6.1ypp to RU's 5.0. RU was 58% 3rd down to PU's 36% and RU had 10 more minutes of TOP. RU's 26 FDs were a Big Ten record for them! In a somewhat surprising move Schiano started Art Sitkowski 19-28-152-2-0 with Langan utilized in his typical wildcat role, but he attempted 4 passes completing all 4 for 95y (long of 62y TD) and was the leading rusher 21-95y. Plummer 20-35-237-2-1... Horvath 19-101y-TD...Moore/Bell duo 11-144-TD.

Boilers opened with a TD, then Rutgers scored back-to-back TDs (PU got an INT on one of them but was negated by a roughing the passer penalty). Sitkowski was sacked in the EZ for a safety...13-9, then PU took a 16-13 lead. RU was SOD near midfield and PU drove for a TD to lead 23-13 which was the HT score. RU's Langan threw a short pass which Adams took 62y for TD to open the 3rd Q. PU answered to go back up by 10 then Cruikshank ret'd the KO 100y for TD...30-27 Boilers 9min in 3rd still. RU then picked off Plummer and Knights took that possession for a 34-30 lead. In the 4th RU had a 1st and goal at the P05, but were called for O PI on a TD pass moving them back and they had to settle for a 28y FG. 37-30 mid 4th Q. PU went 3-and-out after a strange play call were Plummer was tackled for a 5y loss on a called QB run (PU basically wiffed on all their blocks), punting the ball back to RU with 5.26 but Knights were able to kill the clock converting a 4th-and-1 and 3rd-and-3 to ice it.
