Goodbye to Romance College Football
Notre Dame runs their fewest plays of the year (59)on just 6 possessions and their 2nd fewest yards (not counting the hurricane game). ND-Navy yards same 370-368. Brian Kelly saying at halftime "we have to score every possession". They had 3 2nd half possessions, but opted to kick a FG on their final one. From Navy game notes:

Trailing 28-24 with a little more than 7 minutes to go, Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly opted for a 31-yard field goal instead of trying to convert a fourth-and-4 play at the 14. He made the call even though his defense hadn't forced a punt all afternoon.

''Well, certainly thought about going for it,'' Kelly said. ''Now in hindsight, it's something that we didn't get the ball back. But 28-27 made sense to me at the time. Even if they score a touchdown, we still have the opportunity to score and get the two-point conversion. ... But those are the decisions you got to make.

''Again, I don't question the decision to go for the field goal other than the fact that we couldn't get the ball back.''

Navy got the ball and ran out the clock with its triple-option offense. Worth converted two huge fourth-down plays on the final drive, one on a dive play near midfield and another with a pass to Jamir Tillman that essentially ended the game.
Worth took a knee after that, setting off a raucous celebration that surely will continue through the weekend.

Hey dumb fuck, the fact that you might not get the ball back is THE reason that you have to go for 4th & 4 from the 14 trailing by 4. Navy hadn't punted all game! ND was 1 of 1 4th down in the game, but Navy was 3 of 4 4th down including two on the final clock killing drive. Navy went for it on 4th (as they often do) to win the game. ND didn't. There was one questionable 2nd down PI call on ND that wasn't called and then next play on 3rd down they did call one on Irish to give Navy a FD to extend the drive. The final 4th down play call was brilliant easy throw over the middle when ND looked for run.

Navy's 4th win since 1963 in the series, 4th win over the last 10 games.

Army twice threw INTs in the EZ. Once in the 2nd qrt following an AF fumble at their own 17, Army threw INT in EZ on 3rd down. Then in the 4th, on 4th down Army again threw INT in EZ from the 10. AF QB Worthman was good in his first start. Passing 6-9-195-TD-0INT, 19 rush for 63y TD. Army was just 5 of 16 passing for 84y and only added 144y rushing. While Army may have cost themselves some pts with TOs, AF dominated the game. 444-228 total yards.

LV racked up 515 yards to BC’s 207 (their 2nd fewest on the year). LV had 22 FD to BC’s 9. Jackson ran 15-185-3TD and passed 12-17-231-4-1. Each team lost 3 TOs.

Indiana had edges of 27-13 FD, 567-351 total yards, 420-258 passing, 147-93 rushing over Rutgers. Rutgers had a 1 play 68y TD pass and also got a 75y fumble return TD in the first half to lead 17-13 halftime. Indiana had 3 FG blk’s/misses and had 2 xpts blk’d missed. IU fumbled the opening 2nd half KO and Rut got a 21y TD “drive” for a 24-13 lead. IU would score the next 20 pts. Rutgers’ final drive went 8p 81y including a 4th down conversion. They kicked a FG from the 1 on 1st down with :13 left to cut it to 1 score game, but IU recovered the onside kick.

MSU outgained ILL 490-304 and double FD 28-14. Sparty also 8 of 19 3rd down to Illini 4 of 13. But MSU just 5 of 7 in RZ and put the ball on the ground 3x losing 1. ILL’s 1st 5 drives netted 21 yards! MSU went up 3-0 early then on their 2nd possession had 1st down at the 15, but two holding penalties and a sack forced them to eventually punt! MSU committed 10 penalties for 89y. MSU ran 22 plays for 109y in the 1st qrt to IU’s 9 for 17y. MSU gets another FG 6-0 and ILL O comes to life out of nowhere in decent chunks running and passing. 11p 73y TD drive for a 7-6 HT lead. MSU opens with 8p 64y drive, but settles for another FG. ILL gets 64y K Foster run for TD. 14-9 ILL. LJ Scott fumbles and ILL “drives” for 2y and a FG. 17-9. End 3rd qrt MSU able to tie 10p 84y TD (2 pt good). 17-17. George drives Illini 9p 70y for 24-17 lead. On a 15p 57y drive, O’Connor is hurt, Terry replaces. MSU settles for FG to trail 20-24. 3-and-out ILL. Terry leads them 6p 52y for TD. 27-24 Sparty 3m left. George leads ILl 4p 75y in just over a minute for the 31-27 lead. Final drive MSU gets to the ILL 15, but 4th down fails! ILL D did get 10 TFL and Jaylen Dunlap had 4 PBUs.

Ga Southern led 14-3 end of 1st qrt and 21-10 in the 2nd. GSU then attempted onside kick, setting Ole Miss up on short field TD drive. 21-17. Then OM converts a 4th down enroute to 24-21 lead and OM would never trail again. John Youngblood dislocated his ankle and was carted off the field. Chad Kelly injured his leg early 3rd qrt and did not return. Without Kelly Rebels went very heavy rush O. The 2nd half saw just 4 FGs scored. OM kicked FGs from the 12 and 21 while GS kicked from the 23 and 21. OM 441-401 TY. GS 267 (4.5)-196 (4.4) RY. Ellison 7-16-134-1-1, 16-54 TD rush. Kelly 16-23-226-1-0 6-23-2TD rush. It was Matt Breida’s first 100y outing of the year 22-100-TD, Judd for Ole Miss went 26-139-TD.

John Franklin started for Auburn vs Vandy, but fumbled with AU up 7-3. He attempted only 4 passes, 2 completions for 9y. With Vandy surprisingly leading 13-10 halftime Sean White came off the bench to start the 3rd qrt (did not start game due to injury) and immediately led a 12p 95y TD drive. White would go 10-13-106-1-0. AU built a 23-16 lead and Petway had a breakaway run, but either cramped or pulled muscle and wasn't able to score. AU was attempting to go up 2 scores with a 35y FG, but Vandy LB Zach Cunningham came up with a blk, jumping over the center in a big highlight play. VU’s comeback attempt with 1-1/2 minutes left did see a 4th and 18 conversion, but ended in a 2nd down INT to Joshua Holsey (same Auburn player to seal the Ole Miss win last week). AU 386-341 TY. 341y for Vandy was by far their best output vs any SEC/ACC team this year, their previous high was 282 vs UK. Shurmur 24-36-221-1-1, Webb 13-46. Pettway 25-173, Franklin 7-59 rushing.

2nd qrt Texas trailed 14-16 and was on a drive that began at their own 1. On 3rd and 24 from the TT 24 they ran D’Onta Foreman who burst for 20 and a pile of bodies pushes him towards the EZ, but a TTech player strips the ball and races 100y the other way for 14 pt swing. TT leads 23-14. Texas would punt on their next possession and it felt like that 14 pt swing would play a huge role in the game. Instead TT also punts and Texas would go on to score the next 17 to lead 31-23. Foreman had a HUGE day rushing for 341 (10.3)! BUT clinging to a 45-37 lead with 2 minutes left he was on the bench. With Texas trying to gain a first down to put away the game at the TT 27 they brought in Swoopes for a 3rd and 2 and 4th and 1 run. He was stopped on both and Texas fans had to hold their breath as TT began marching downfield, Mahomes hit his first 3 and like that they are at the Tex 42. They would eventually get to the 20 when Mahomes threw a 3rd down INT with :09 left.

Mississippi St scores a 74y rush TD on their first play of the game and never looked back enroute to a 28-7 lead (could’ve been worse but MSU threw INT in EZ on their 2nd possession). Trevor Knight injured his throwing shoulder on a 19y TD run in the first qrt and eventually had to leave the game. Each team misses 3rd qrt FGs. Aggies make it 21-28 in the 4th with Jake Hubenak leading the way. But MSU would go 14p 73y including three 3rd down conversions to get it back to 2 score game. 35-21. Aggies again cut it to 1 score game 28-35, onside kick fails, they hold, but Hubenak’s 2nd down pass on their final drive is INT’d. MSU 29-14 FD, 574-382 TY, 61-28% 3rd down, 365 (6.3)-117(3.7) RY. Each team lost 2 turnovers. Myles Garrett tried to go, but was unable to play much.

Brent Stockstill was knocked out in the 2nd qrt and UTSA upsets MTSU 45-25. Roadrunners had a dominating ground game and also racked up 5 sacks (MTSU had only allowed 5 all year prior). UTSA scored TDs on 4 of 5 first half drives while MT could only score a TD, punt, SOD ,INT and FG. 28-10 HT Roadrunners. In place of Stockstill Urzua went 14-27-161-1-3INT and also lost a fumble. UTSA did only outgain MT 378-369, but 270-110 rushing. And 58% 3rd down to 17%, 38-22 TOP.

Virginia scored first to lead 6-0 (2pt conv att no good), but on their next 6 drives would gain just 67 yards. WF QB John Wolford only attempted 10 passes for WF, but completed 9 of them 83y TD while adding 94y rushing (64 on 1 play). WF ran for 226. But total yards pretty even. Slight edge to WF 309-291. Wake led 17-6 halftime, before Virginia starts coming back. The game was decided in the 4th qrt on back-to-back turnovers. UVA actually led 20-17. Benkert threw INT that was returned to the UVA 11. UVA D holds WF to FG. 20-20. Next possession UVA is INT’d again, this time returned 39y for a Wake TD to break the tie and final 27-20 margin with 6-1/2 left (Benkert also lost a fumble in the 1st half). UVA’s final 2 drives could not gain any ground. WF got 5 sacks, UVA 3.

That is most of the early games. More later.

UNC RB Hood took his first carry 45y in a game that featured many big plays. Hood had 114y and 2 TD in the 1st qrt (finished with 168). GT hit a 83y TD pass and UNC connected on a 68y TD. UNC's 636 (9.1) yards were their most of the season. GT racked up 518y (7.6) but were held to just a FG in the 2nd half (only had 4 second half possessions - FG on one, fumble on 2 and SOD the last). They had a first half FG blk'd. GT scored just 13 pts on 6 redzone trips. Dedrick Mills had his first 100y game for GT, but lost 2 fumbles. Justin Thomas left the game with injury 3rd qrt after a 21y run. Thomas was 5-10-184-1-0 and rushed 15-82. Trubisky was 20-32-329-1-0.

Brad Kaaya was 32-47-356-4-0, most attempts and completions on the season, when facing Pitt why not? Pitt's secondary struggles continued as Miami did what they wanted all game. First time Kaaya had 4 TD passes vs ACC opponent (tied career high and 32 completions were career high). After a 7-0 UM lead, Pitt ran the KO back 7-7. Pitt ran for just 131 on 33 att. Up 14-7, Miami was called for O PI in the EZ taking a TD off the board and that eventually got just a FG. That possession allowed Pitt to take a 21-20 lead one two drives with 3 big 3rd down conversions. Having played terrible D, Pitt leads. But the lead didn't last long and it was all Canes from there. To open the 2nd half Henderson fumbled setting UM up for a 3p 8y TD drive for the only score of the 3rd qrt. Pitt had just 1 2nd half score a 75y TD pass and Miami tacked on a 55y TD run with just 2 minutes left. Miami 22-22 FD, 534-417 TY, 356-287 PY, 178-130 RY 50-43% 3rd down. Pitt was -2 TOs, handing Miami 7 pts and the other was an INT in the UM EZ on 2nd down from the 4. Pitt avg'd 3.5 sacks per game just got 1. DE Price was fooled badly on a nice play action fake for Miami's first TD.

The illegal substitution error by ND when Navy was punting was the difference in the game basically. Also, why is notre dame tackling the Navy receiver on the fourth down conversion?

If you paid players, I think you would have to fire the Notre Dame kids. Can you revoke scholarships?

Pitt coach continually puts his kids in positions to fail. Pitt tries hard. it is not an effort issue. Their defensive schemes are laughably horrible. He went corners on an island in press coverage on 2nd and goal from beyond the 20. No, he did that. He got away with it btw.

Not sure if you're asking in jest and already know answer but at least when I played (Hoops many years ago) scholarships were only year by year. So in theory you can revoke. But no one does it because word would get out and it would hurt recruiting. Again, many years ago and not sure how it is today.

I think this is still the case and I also think you are right about word getting out if you did which would hurt recruiting. In addition, at schools like Notre Dame when you get a kid like Kizer who thought he was going to be nfl caliber (hahaha) and he doesn't perform, he is the exact kid who really needs his scholarship or his life could spiral out of control which we don't want for these kids. I was making a funny. If you paid them like a job as some suggest then you have to fire for performance though. No way around that.

You could make the argument that our staff deserved to be fired simply because of that Swoopes non-sense. That shit has blown a tire and yet we did it twice when the most physical back in the country is watching from the sidelines.

I agree. I could not believe what they were doing! It didn't take long, even during the ND game in fact, that I thought this Swoopes package isn't going to work like this all year. It is a nice wrinkle if they expand it some, but just to rely on it, on him, to get a dirty yard when everything is on the line...I was like if Foreman banged up or something? I'm sure Charlie was or will be asked about it. That would be a Charlie decision or an OC decision?

Moore and Cox top 100y rushing each. 35-10 App St win (was just 28-3 halftime). 439-197 TY including a 303 (8.0) - 14 (.5) RY edge! Texas St TD was set up by blk'd punt, they got the ball on the 3. 5 App St 2nd half drives ended in punt (4 three-and-out). Strange.

BYU outgains Cincy 337-295 in 20-3 win. 38-22 minute BYU TOP. Opening drive Cincy goes to Coug 6, but kicks FG. That is all the scoring the Bearcats did! After a Gunner Kiel INT, Cincy went 3-and-out their next 3 possessions. BYU's first half TD drive was an epic 13p 92y where they converted 3rd down 4x and they opened 2nd half 12p 70y converting 3rd down 2x for TD. 17-3. Cincy did go 15p 62y converting 3rd down 2x, but missed a 39y FG. Later Cincy SOD twice in BYU territory, BYU had long drive for 20y FG to cap scoring. Cougs were SOD and INT'd in Cincy territory in the first half.

Minny led 10-0, but Purdue would battle back. 14-10 end of 1st qrt, later 21-20 and to end the first half 28-20. Key play, instead of running out the clock, with :15 left Min tried to get some yards right before half. Leidner was INT's and ret 34y setting up Purdue with a decision, kick FG or go for TD from the 2 with just :05. They opted TD. Pur was SOD once in Min territory. But Boilers would only muster 3 pts in the second half. Pur 3rd qrt possessions were INT, and two 3-and-outs. As always in Minnesota games, turnovers set them up on short fields for scores. In the second half, all 3 Min TD drives were 45y or less following turnovers. Blough 29-48-391-4-1 (+fumble lost). Leidner 14-23-231-0-1. Purdue ran for just 23y. R Smith ran 24-153-3TD, Leidner ran 14-74-2TD.

VT held to their 2nd fewest yards this year 399 to Duke's 375 and Duke outrushed VT 227-207. VT missed a 39y FG and Duke had a 30y att blk'd and returned for Hokie TD breaking the tie (3rd VT FG blk this year). 14-7 VT, then 21-7 halftime. The last VT TD of the half they converted 3rd and long twice and scored on a 4th down run. 3rd qrt Duke had 1st down at VT 30 and got near the 20, but 2 sacks led to eventual punt. Then 11p 85y drive with a 4th down conversion allowed Duke to cut it to 21-14. 14p 78y drive for VT, but they kick a 27y FG. Duke cut it to 24-21, but exchange of punts then VT kills final 4 minutes burning 3 Duke TOs and converting 2 3rd downs. Each team had 3 sacks. There were no turnovers.

Michigan scored TDs on their first 5 possessions of the first half (first team this year to do that). 35-0 halftime. Maryland had a FG go off the upright (11p 74y drive) and right before half with :00 on the clock a Terp receiver was tackled at the 2 following a 47y catch and run. QB Hills was knocked out after just 2 drives and would not return. The O didn’t look that bad with him at QB, not quite as good with Caleb Rowe. Mich had 660-367 (10-5.6 ypp) yardage edge including 273-78 rush with 31-19 FD. Michigan dominated, although watching the game Maryland at times appeared to play better on O than a team that scored just 3 pts.

Ok St had to hold on late to escape Manhattan with the 43-37 win. Both offenses had their way vs the opposing D in their style of method of choice Pokes outgained Cats 637 (10) – 432 (5.8). Game was closer than the stats imply due to Ok St –2 TOs plus K St scored their customary non-offensive TD. Some of it went like this; OK St stopped 4th-and-1 at K St 37, fumbled a punt (K ST SOD), but 2 plays later Rudolph threw pick-six, then Ok St had a punt blk’d led to short TD drive. Another INT led to no K St pts. K St’s final drive started with just 1:39 left, they converted 4th and 5, and got down to the 3, but was then called for O PI and their last gasp was INT’d in the EZ as time expired.

Charlotte runs for season high 303y. It was a flashback to when SMiss allowed UTSA to rush for 339 a few weeks back. On the opening drive Phillips hit a 72y run leading to a 7-0 lead. SM tied and then took 14-7 lead with a 78y TD pass. Char responded with a 57y TD run to tie again 14 all. 49ers would take the lead back with a 12p 99y drive 21-14 with 1:46 left first half. An INT and 29y ret set up Char for 18y TD drive for the 28-14 HT lead. 49ers went up 31-14 to open the 3rd qrt. Then with 3:18 left 3rd Char blk’d a punt fell on the ball in the EZ for the incredible 38-14 lead early 4th qrt. SM couldn’t get any closer than 38-27. Mullens was knocked out of the game in the 3rd qrt and back up Adamson was injured on the final drive of the game. SM’s 3rd string QB Parks threw an INT with 2 minutes left. Char QB Klugh was just 11-24-127-1-0 with 21 rush. Phillips 29-183 rushing. SM QBs combined for 32-53-404-2-3 and Eagles only ran for 94 (3.2). SM –3 TOs. For the game SM had 493 (6.1) –439 (6.2) total yard and 25-18 FD edge.

Baylor opens the game 7-0 and it was all down hill from there! 81 yards there and then 50 total yards on their next 5 drives. Baylor would score a TD to close the first half, but the damage was done and Frogs led 31-14 and later 38-14 at half. TCU outgained them 688 (7.6) - 415 (4.7) including 431 (7.3) - 133 (3) rushing, 34-19 FD, although Baylor passed for a whole 25 more yards 282-257 (TCU 58 - 51% completions). 140 of Baylor's yards were on their final 3 drives of the game, a 1/3 of their yards. TCU's Ranthony Texada scored on a 28y pick-six, he's the one that got beat on Baylor's opeing TD, that was the only turnover. Kyle Hicks ran for career high 192y and 5 TDs. Jim Grobe's response LOL: '`I was surprised today, to be honest with you,''

Florida rushed for just 12 yards and they've been held below 250 total yards now in 3 of the last 4 games, 241 (4.7ypp) vs Ark. 72 of those yards came on their final drive. Hogs on the other hand gashed the Gators for 223 rushing (4.6ypc) and 243 passing (9.3ypa). FD were 22-13. Ark got a pick-six on UF's first possession, but Hogs gave a pick-six right back 2 series later, an 8 play 84y Ark TD drive sandwiched between 14-7. Florida ran just one offensive play in the first half in Ark territory. Two of the three Ark O TDs were on drives of 80+.

Not going to have time to get through all of them, here are some I know were interesting:

Oregon St appeared to played Stanford tough, but they did get a little lucky to cover. In the first half Beavs had just 143 total yards, 75 of which was a 1 play 75y TD pass to Victor Bolden. Stanford wasn't on fire, OSU made them work for it, behind McCaffrey's 241 all purpose yards (199 rush yards - 6.2) and 376 team rush yards. Chryst passed just 10-17-60-0-0. It was 10-0 1st qrt (OSU missed FG) and just 13-7 HT (75y OSU TD, 20y Stan FG following 51y McCaffrey run). Beaver INT to open to the 3rd set Cardinal up for 30y FG. 16-7. Another Beaver INT this one in Stan territory put Stan on course for a 6p 59y TD drive 23-7 (Stan missed FG earlier). But Beavers find the EZ again thanks to a 52y Nall run to the 15 and OSU scores a few plays later. 23-13 (2 pt no good). So here is where it gets really interesting. The spread is anywhere between 16-17. Stan drives 11p 59y for a 36y FG. 26-13. OSU punts. Stan goes on a 11p 56y drive, converting 4th and 1 at midfield and eventually getting to the 1...where McCaffrey's 4th down run is stopped! Still 26-13! OSU takes over with 2:17 left, but they go 4-and-out on their own 8 with 1:54 left. What will Stanford do? Punch it in? No they take 3 straight kneeldowns. 425-266 TY, 75-46 plays, 26-18% 3rd down, 20-8 FD, 40-20 TOP, 365-129 RY...all advantage Cardinal. OSU's McMaryion passed 10-24-137-1-2 (75y on 1 play) and Nall rushed 10-77 (52 on 1 play).

Mizzou had a 465-428 TY edge and while rush yards were nearly even Mizzou had better ypc of 4.5-3.6. Most yards SC has allowed since the ECU game and second best yardage output by MU vs SEC. MU was -3 TOs. A 1st qrt fumble led to a 4p 20y SC TD. After not much O in the 1st, they both explode in the 2nd. A 7p 90y MU TD drive ties it 7-7. SC responds with 11- 75y including a 4th and 1 conversion. 14-7. MU goes 8p 55y for TD with their own 4th down conversion. 14-14. Not to be outdone SC answers on a 8p 60y with 2 3rd down conv for the 21-14 halftime lead. MU ties it with easy 8p 77y 21-21. SC missed a FG then MU is moving the ball again, from the SC 42 on 1st down they take a deep shot, but INT'd at the 2. SC would go 98y for TD featuring 3 plays of 20+ for 28-21 lead. MU misses a FG, but SC kicks one from the 6. 31-21. MU misses another FG. And their final drive with 3:09 left, is 15p 69y and they converted 3rd down 3x getting to the SC 23. But their 3rd down pass was INT'd in the EZ with just :29 left. Each team had 4 sacks, MU 9 TFL, SC 6 - Charles Harris 2 sacks. Lock 23-40-302-1-2, Bentley 22-28-254-2-0. MU had two 80y RBs, SC's Dowdle 27-149, Samuel caught 9-125. MU 0-2 FGs, SC 1-2.

Will have a couple more yet.

It's obvious Patterson still hates Baylor, with or without Briles. TCU played its game of the season in Waco and just destroyed that team. But part of that is Baylor (still) being overrated. No way they're a top 25 team.

This one is painful for me. UCF beats Tulane 37-6. But UCF had under 300y O and 37 pts! UCF would unbelievably score THREE D TDs! Tulane 85-55 plays, 348-297 TY, 22-16 FD, 40-20 TOP. Tulane lost 5 turnovers to UCF's 2. Tulane had only lost 9 TOs all year!! First half yards were was even as the 7-6 score (Tul xpt blk'd) 189-185. 2nd half. Tulane QB fumbled at own 34 and UCF returns for TD. 13-6. Next possession Tulane throws INT from own 24, returned for pick-six. 20-6. Tulane drives to UCF 27, but are stopped on 4th and 1. FIU gave Maurice Alexander his second start at QB and while FIU couldn't keep up with WKU, they were able to keep it in the number. WKU scores on it's first 3 possessions for a 21-7 lead early 2nd qrt. WKU then gets a pick-six for a 28-7 lead. FIU is SOD at midfield, but then WKU fumbles. After driving down to the 5 1st-and-goal, FIU throws a 2nd down INT in the EZ. WKU goes 80y for a 35-7 halftime lead. WKU adds 2 more 3rd qrt TDs, now 49-7...FIU is going 3-and-outs, both teams turn to their benches and the backups would determine the cover. In the 4th FIU's 3rd string QB takes them 13-81 with a 4th down conversion for a 49-14 game (line anywhere between 26-35 depending on day of week you got it before or after McGough was announced out). The following events are critical. WKU fumbles a pitch at their own 12 and FIU is in the EZ 3 plays later. 49-21. WKU gets to FIU 29 1st down and takes some shots in the EZ, but is eventually SOD. FIU then is sacked and fumbled at their own 13 with 2:21 left. 4 run plays...from the 13 to the 5, from the 5 no gain, from the 5 to the 2, from the 2 to the goal line.........and game over.

NC St had 2nd half 10 pt lead, but FSU wins 24-20. Cook held to just 65 rush and 17 receiving. Days runs 23-104. Both QBs top 300y. NC St had 469-393 yard edge. Opening drive NC St throws INT on 1st down at the 7. NC St later drove to the 15, but missed a 32y FG and then they drive for 1st and goal at the 7, but settle for a 20y FG and final drive of the half NC St gets to FSU 21 1st down, but kicks a 39y FG. NC St had 306-158 yards 1st half, but game was just 13-10 Pack. 5 drives deep into FSU territory, but just 13 pts. They blew too many 1st half chances and kept FSU close for the 2nd half Nole comeback. On FSU'd TD drive to take the lead, Francois was 3-5-83y-TD in 1-1/2 minutes. NC St's final drive got to FSU 26, but Finley missed on 3 of his final 4 passes and failed on 4th down. NC St only got 1 sack.

Wyoming was dominating Utah St to the tune of 35-7, so much so that Utah St felt compelled to go for a 4th and 16 to open the second half, which failed. But USU was about to find some life. After a WYO punt, USU converts 3rd down then hits a 49y pass to the 5 and scores next play. Following another WYO punt, USU hits a 41y pass and has a TD next play. 35-21. WYO then threw INT and 2 plays 39y later the game is just 35-28! After doing nothing on O all qrt, Cowboy QB Allen sparks them with a 38y rush then a 37y TD pass to stop the Aggie surge. USU missed a FG on the next drive and the comeback was over as Wyoming scored the final 10 pts for the 52-28 win. 528 (7.3) - 414 (6.0) total yards for WYO. Utah St lost 2 TOs to WYO's 1.
