DAYTON, Ohio – Carter Cravens threw two touchdowns, leading Morehead State to its first win against Dayton since 2008, with a 14-6 victory on Saturday. Cravens two-yard touchdown pass to Christian Pedersen gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead that they carried into halftime. Dayton recorded only 198 offensive yards for the game and used two Danny Baker field goals to cut the deficit to 7-6 with 4;16 remaining. However, Morehead State struck 17 seconds later when Cravens connected on an 88-yard touchdown pass to Nate Garnett to set the final score. Cravens completed 16-of-25 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns, with Garnett catching nine passes for 212 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles defense harried the Dayton offense, recording 10 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks. Dayton quarterback Drew VanVleet completed 12-of-27 passes for 91 yards.

Valparaiso 17, Marist 14

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Michael Mansaray ran for two touchdowns and Ryan Hawk hit a go-ahead field goal late in the third quarter as Valparaiso secured its first PFL win, 17-14, against Marist on Saturday. Mansaray bookended Marist’s two touchdowns with a 58-yard run on the game’s first drive and a game-tying touchdown on a four-yard score with 18 seconds left in halftime. After Valparaiso’s opening score, Marist replied on its first drive, with Tristan Shannon’s one-yard touchdown run capping the 75-yard drive. Sonny Mannino gave Marist the lead late in the second quarter with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Will Downes, but Valparaiso scored on the following drive. The second half’s only points came off the foot of Valparaiso’s Ryan Hawk, who hit a 25-yard field goal with two seconds left in the third. Mansaray amassed 135 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Mannino led Marist with his 21-of-38 passing effort for 162 yards and a touchdown.

Butler 48, Davidson 38

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Butler struck quickly and led wire-to-wire in a 48-38 victory against Davidson on Saturday. The Bulldogs saw Billy Dozier rumble for a 63-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter and then doubled their lead on Devon Holman’s 20-yard pick-six four minutes later. Davidson would close within four points on Mari Adams’ five-yard touchdown run with 2:28 left in the first half, but the Bulldogs used Griffin Caldwell’s 13-yard touchdown run to take a 28-17 halftime lead. Butler extended its lead to 38-17 late in the third quarter thanks to a Nick Howard four-yard touchdown run then traded scoring drives with the Wildcats the rest of the game. Butler outgained Davidson 283-187 on the ground and scored five rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Reagan Andrew ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries and added 112 yards in the passing game. Adams led Davidson with a 103-yard, two-touchdown effort on 18 carries.

Presbyterian 42, Stetson 14

DeLAND, Fla. – Presbyterian scored four unanswered touchdowns before halftime and made the lead hold up for its first PFL victory, 42-14, against Stetson on Saturday. After the Hatters and Blue Hose traded touchdowns in the opening nine minutes, Presbyterian took the lead for good on CJ Johnson’s three-yard touchdown run with 4:24 left in the first. The Blue Hose solidified their lead with three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, one each by Collin Hurst, Johnson, and Quante Jennings, to take a 35-7 halftime lead that would not be threatened. Jennings and Antonio Wright ran for 106 yards each to lead Presbyterian’s 329-yard, five-touchdown rushing performance. Bready Meitz led Stetson with a 27-of-54 passing outing for 287 yards and a touchdown.

St. Thomas 34, San Diego 14

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Hope Adebayo ran for 277 yards and three touchdowns to power St. Thomas past San Diego, 34-14, on Saturday. Adebayo set the tone with a 42-yard touchdown run to open the day’s scoring, then added a 60-yard scoring dash in the third quarter before closing the scoring with a 70-yard touchdown run. Adebayo’s rushing performance outgained San Diego, which was held to 265 offensive yards. Toreros running back Logan Gingg ran for 120 yards on 23 carries.

Outstanding game on Thursday between North Carolina Central at South Carolina State!

I am going to be on the road two full days this week which will limit my ability to obsess on games and post starting midweek.

I don't get much into playoff talk, rather I get annoyed by it because it doesn't mean anything. I do like to look at conference races this time of year.

Big Sky -

Montana State will play UC Davis and Montana back-to-back to finish the season. Already beat Idaho.

UC Davis will play Montana and Montana State back-to-back 11/9 and 11/16. Already beat Idaho.

Montana will play UC Davis 11/9 and Montana State in the finale. Do not play Idaho.

Idaho has played all it's toughest opponents. They lost both vs UC Davis and Montana State and they miss Montana this year

Big South / OVC -

SEMO has already beat UT Martin and plays Tennessee State in the finale

Tennessee State playes UT Martin this week and ends with SEMO

UT Martin has already lost to SEMO and is at Tennessee State this week

CAA- Wow what a crazy conference- have I ever mentioned I hate large conference and unbalanced schedules?

Richmond does not play Rhode Island; Spiders do not play anyone currently unbeaten or 1-loss in the conference, their toughest game on paper is hosting W&M in finale. They beat Delaware 2 weeks ago.

Rhode Island will play at Delaware next week and then does not face anyone currently unbeaten or with 1-loss in the conference race

Delaware is ineligible for CAA title

Stony Brook already lost to Villanova and does not play anyone else currently unbeaten or 1-loss in the league

Villanova already beat Stony Brook and their only game vs another top team left is the finale vs Delaware

IVY -

Dartmouth and Harvard play this week in what could decide the league. Although the Ivy shares titles and does not break ties regardless of head-to-head results therefore just about everyone is still alive to some degree to get a share of the title.

MEAC -

North Carolina Central and South Carolina State's game this Thursday would appear to be an elimination game for the conference title.

NCCU already beat Norfolk and plays Howard 11/15

South Carolina State will play Howard and Norfolk yet in November

MVFC -

North Dakota State has already beaten South Dakota State and will play Missouri State and at South Dakota to close the season

Missouri State is eligible for the conference title, but not the playoffs. They play NDSU and SDSU back-to-back to end the season

South Dakota has already lost to SDSU, does not play Missouri State and will face North Dakota and North Dakota State back-to-back to end season

South Dakota State has already lost to NDSU, but just beat USD. They play at UND next week and host Missouri State in the finale.

Bucknell has already lost to Georgetown, but beat Lehigh and will play at Holy Cross and host Colgate to close the year

Colgate has already lost to Holy Cross, but beat Georgetown. They play at Lehigh and Bucknell to close the year.

Lehigh has already lost to Bucknell and will play the other 3 contenders in a row starting this week.

Drake will play at St Thomas next week. They do not play Dayton and will face Morehead in a couple weeks. They already beat Butler and do not play Davidson.

St Thomas travels to Morehead this week then will play Drake - Butler - Dayton to finish the season. They do not play Davidson.

Dayton just lost to Morehead and will play at St Thomas in the finale. They do not play Drake and already beat Davidson and Butler.

Morehead just beat Dayton. They host St Thomas this week, travel to Davidson and play at Drake 11/16. They already lost at Butler.

If it gets nutty Butler, Davidson and San Diego all sit with 2 league losses

SoCon -

Mercer has already beat Chattanooga and Western Carolina. They host East Tennessee State this week

The Clifton McDowell era at McNeese State is over. Cowboy head coach Gary Goff announced Monday that the transfer quarterback will miss the rest of the season with a dislocated finger on his throwing hand. It is the same injury that forced McDowell, a graduate senior who led Montana to the FCS title game a season ago, to miss the last two games. He missed a game earlier in the year at Texas A&M with a bad ankle. Email newsletter signup Sign up for our daily email newsletter “It doesn’t seem to be getting any better,” Goff said of McDowell’s injury. “There were reasons why we brought him in here, but injuries are part of the game.” Goff said McDowell may appeal to the NCAA for another year due to the injury but that seems unlikely given his extended time already in college. McDowell is expected to continue to be part of the team, but in what capacity wasn’t made clear. McDowell finishes his season 63 of 113 for 1,054 yards and six touchdowns. He was intercepted three times while rushing for 370 yards and six more scores. With McDowell out the offense turns back over to redshirt freshman Kamden Sixkiller for the second straight year. Sixkiller started the final two games last season and will now be the guy moving forward. “Six is the guy,” said Goff. “You don’t want Six to be looking over his shoulder at all. I just want to focus on Six growing these last weeks of the season. “I do think he is the future, I really do.” Sixkiller’s extended audition will begin at home this week when the Cowboys play Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday night. It is Homecoming for McNeese (4-5, 1-3 in the Southland Conference) and also the first time they will be back inside Cowboy Stadium since September. It will also mark the fourth start of the season for Sixkiller, who has had his moments of both good and bad. He has connected on 78 of his 141 passes for 829 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. “He (Sixkiller) checks all the boxes in my opinion,” said Goff. “He has a big arm and can make all the throws. “We need him to grow up in a hurry. He is a fierce competitor who takes to coaching. Pound for pound, one of the toughest guys on the team.” Sixkiller will be looking for his first win as a starting quarterback against Commerce (1-7, 1-2). Alex Flores, the junior college transfer, will back him up. True freshman Devin Leppold could also get some time now that his redshirt season is no longer in jeopardy. Goff said he hopes to get back injured receiver Curtis Deville perhaps as early as this week. The transfer from Purdue and Iowa High School product would give a huge boost to the receiver group. As for Lake Charles Prep star Tre’Vonte Citizen, the injury news is not as good. Citizen is not expected back this season with a leg injury. “We have missed him,” said Goff. “He is a big back but we have to get him better.” Citizen transferred from Miami in hopes of kick-starting his career that injuries have plagued. There is still a lot on the line for the Cowboys this season. McNeese has not finished above .500 or with more than four victories since 2019. “We still have a lot to play for,” said Goff. “We haven’t had a Homecoming in two years and the guys are excited to be back home. McNeese’s Homecoming game was forfeited by Northwestern State after one of its players was shot and killed the week earlier. Cowboy officials were not told until just four days before kickoff that the Demons were canceling the remainder of the season, leaving them no time to find a substitute. That proved to be the only game won by McNeese last year as the Cowboys finished 1-10, the worst record in program history.

Here is my initial short list…

Duquesne -20.5 or less but not sure I trust them as a big fav

CCSU -9.5 or less (may open closer to 13.5-16.5)

Butler and Drake both -23.5 or less (both may open closer to 28-30)

S Dakota State and N Dakota State both -26.5 or less (both may open closer to 28)

Jackson State -16.5 or less (may open closer to 21)

Howard -5.5 or less (may open closer to 8-10)

Robert Morris -2.5 or less

Lamar and EIU at ML 125 or less

Over 54 or less in S Dakota State game

Over 50.5 or less in N Dakota State game

Over 60 or less in Davidson game

Took some South Carolina State +5.5 at Fan Duel and some ML. MB has this game and has alt lines for it as well. Not sure SC State flips to favored, but think NCCU will drop below 3 (edit - I see this opened at 6.5, I missed whenever that was)

I'm out of town with limited time and ability to do my normal routine.

Only concern about SC State is are they ready for a game like this? NCCU battle tested in plenty of big games. If the moment isn't too big for them, I really like what SC State has going on this year.

Looking over a few other PR lines.

Just got back from business trip and saw the two fcs games up and also took SC State getting 5.5 at home as this should be a fun one to watch. Would have taken anything 3.5 or more with this one.

PR has some conflict on the Merrimack / Robert Morris line, which is understandable how well Merrimack has played lately. I have liked Robert Morris this year, but can't confidently say who wins that game. Still lean RM if dogged (Massey Merrimack -3.5).

Spread streak snapped for CCSU last week. Was a close game. They could be DD fav vs Wagner. I would like them to win...they did cover their other favorite spot vs Mercyhurst, barely and Wagner is better than Mercyhurst.

Penn's season was already on the edge and it came crashing down last Friday night. Not sure of Sayin's status. Brown found a way last week, when they win, you just don't want to lay pts with them. PR conflicted on who's favored in this one too.

Lehigh at Georgetown is another game where PR can't agree on who's favored. Georgetown shut out Lafayette then allowed Colgate 467y (7.4) and Bucknell 368 (6.0). Don't trust Hoya D at all. Suppose I would like Lehigh here. I have liked them all year so why stop now? They did what an aspiring team should do vs winless Fordham, that game was 33-3 before Fordham scored 2 TDs with 2pt conversions late in the game. Lehigh is a likable team when they don't lose 3/4 TOs as they did in losses vs Bucknell and Yale.

Lafayette -7.5 at Bucknell according to Massey on the road is a high number. Lafayette continue to be a shell of their former self. They are 0-4 ATS their last 4 as a favorite and have been upset twice in that span. Bucknell has covered their last 3 as dogs when Rucker plays (he DNP vs Cornell, returned last week)

I don't get how Morgan can be 7.5 pt favorite when it isn't a given they are even the better team vs Norfolk. NCCU is vastly superior to Morgan which didn't show on the scoreboard (only lost 7-16) but did show in the box score (outgained 204-396 3.3-6.0). Morgan hasn't won a lined game by more than 6 all year, and the one time they did win by 6 was week 1. Norfolk is not darling, but are 3-2 ATS as dog vs FCS and have showed some ability sometimes. Should be a low scoring game either way, totaled below 40 for a reason.

Fordham showing as potential small fav, winless on the year, but this is just their 3rd home game! Fordham was previously competitive in their two other Patriot League games vs Lafayette and Holy Cross but were not competitive at all last week at Lehigh. Colgate D is very bad, so if Fordham is going to win this would appear like a good week to do it. Colgate wins some games occasionally despite their D (Georgetown and Cornell), so not an automatic fade team. Tough game to guess really, last week is a concern how Fordham played. Maybe back at home...if they were dogged I might give them a chance.

Seeing Howard as DD fav is something, but I saw what happened to Delaware State last week. Adams hasn't played the last 2 games. Not sure why or status

SFU has been shut out the last 2 games but now could be 7-12 pt fav hosting Stonehill. Stonehill bad, but they have scored 28 2H pts in each of the last two games after they fell behind by a lot. SFU O avg only 163 ttl O the last 3 games - that is a special kind of bad. Massey says this total as 49.5! That also is a wow. SFU has gone Under every game this year. Stonehill has gone over 3 including the last 2 game becaue they are just that bad. Dog / Under here is the logical play - just such an awful game to get involved with

I think the NC A&T HC was the former William and Mary DC. They didn't play last year. NC A&T appeared to throw the towell in, but that doesn't mean those teams don't rebound a little at some point. Like the dead cat bounce they say in stock market. I would want to be on W&M, Massey sees it as 20.5, Sagarin 13.5. One thing with A&T, they play solid 1H. Not last week, that was the second time they haven't had a decent 1H (NCCU was the other). W&M below 2 TDs I can swallow even though I'm not necessarily a fan of how they have played as a favorite (3-4 ATS lost 2 outright)

Sagarin shows Villanova -3.3 at Hampton. I can take that. Massey has 13.5, not thank you. I have been critical of Villanova all year. Everyone got fired up when they lost to Maine, but they literally have played poorly all year in one way or another. There actually isn't much I can say that supports Villanova, even what looks like a good game, 42-24 over Stony Brook - SB led that game 24-14 mid 3Q before a muffed punt sparked Nova and they ripped off several big runs to make that game look like a blowout. Hampton has played well lately, I will compliment them, but that just vs Elon who has been terrible, vs A&T who is awful...they should've beaten Rhode Island, which is good (might reflect worse on URI than it does favorably for Hampton) - and then before that William and Mary beat them 49-7! One of the few games that W&M actually was able to hammer somebody. If this line truly is like 3, then I will be on Villanova.

St Thomas playing pretty good lately, outgained San Diego and Valpo by 194 and 180 yard respectively. Morehead off surprising upset of Dayton 14-6 as 15.5 pt road dog (293-198 yard edge) and won as a home dog vs Presbyterian 14-7 (252-273 yard deficit). 3 games ago they did lose by 34 at Butler and were outgained by 224y. I really do not think Morehead is a good as their conference record suggests (3-1). Will have to be a small line for me to take St Thomas (Sagarin 2.6).

Cinderall Stony Brook has done most of their work as dogs, although they were a 10.5 pt fav over Stonehill and won 37-10 and were also favored by 3 vs Morgan and won 22-3. This will be their first road fav spot, but they are capable of doing this. Outgained W&M by 106 and outgained Towson by 107 on the road. Played Villanova tough for 3Q. They have good run game, capable passing game and a D that has been creating a lot of TOs (gained atleast 2 in every FCS game but one). Trusting their D is the trickest part, to that point, they did hold Campbell to 17 pts and the Camels only had 3 drives into SB territory. Still iffy to have them win by margin, but would rather have them vs Bryant. Now, Richmond opened as a 7.5 road fav last week. Obviously that was way low, it closed at 15. Seeing SB could open as a similar 6.5 (Massey) doesn't make for value - assuming most agree that Richmond is pretty superior to Stony Brook - especially on D. But should SB win this game by a TD or more if that is the line? Yes. Bryant will move it and score some though.

Indiana State is 3-0-1 on the closing line as a dog this year. Trailed 0-17 in the 3Q last week but won 21-17. The O goes through Owens and he has had some impressive rushing games this year. North Dakota just had a QB run for 176y on them in YSU's Brungard. UND is 3-2 ATS as a fav and hasn't alwasy been the best even vs the worst. They allowed Murray to score 35 on them (21 1H - Murray had 250y on their first 4 drives). YSU's 406y on them last week were the Penguin's second highest vs any MVFC opponent this year. YSU is better than Indiana State although I feel they are comparable in some ways. Indiana State might actually have the better D, so they could keep the scoring down better than YSU did vs UND. Massey thinks 20.5, that seems high for them on the road vs a team that has won their last two games at home (Murray and SIU). I could see this game being around that number, somewhere between 17-24 pt UND win - maybe the Hawks score last to get ahead of the spread. Sagarin has 13.9.

It has been a bad series for Cornell vs Princeton, Tigers have won 5 straight, none have been close on the scoreboard, although I do recall some misleading finals (yards, turnovers, defensive scores) benefitting Princeton once or twice last few years. This is a uniquely bad Princeton team (because they haven't been any kind of bad in years), they only won 14-3 last year. I'm not looking too deep into this right now.

This will the last game I'm thinking about tonight - Dartmouth at Harvard. Sagarin Crimson -.7, Massey Harvard -3.5. Harvard ML. The Harvard D is not what we expect when it comes to our recent memories of Harvard football. But the Harvard O surpasses my memories of the best Crimson O I have seen the last 3 years. Dartmouth is undefeated and their most impressive game of the year with quality of opponents in mind was last week. I liked Columbia vs them quite a bit. Columbia QB did get hurt 2Q, not sure it would've mattered the way that Dartmouth played early in that one, but Harvard is really looking good and Dartmouth has had so many games on the edge. I would not lay 3.5 - really this could be a 3 pt game. Hopefully it opens low enough and I can ML it on the cheap.

I was driving all day :(

Got home in time to see the grand kids in the Halloween costumes, check my phone, 'oh shit the lines came out'

Here is what I immediately took about an hour ago, will have to see what else I like or just wait to react to movement.

Lehigh+1.5
Bucknell +7.5
Norfolk+6.5
Stonehill+13.5 / Und 48.5
Harvard -2.5 and ML-140
Chattanooga+1.5
ETSU/Mercer Und 52.5
Southern Utah +4.5
NAU +1.5
UNA ML-165 (Massey had AP favored, haven't checked yet to see where it opened)
UTM/Tenn St Und 53.5

Took Lamar getting 2.5 as I think they win SU

What are you thinking here?

SLU off back-to-back last second games, maybe running a little low on fuel this week perhaps? I think they are pretty good. Lamar O has gotten better as season has gone on. Some softer opponents have helped that along. Looks like a tough game for me to pick.

Both teams are pretty evenly matched and are somewhat mirror images of each other so should be close.

I like the fact that Lamar’s OL is now fully healthy and from what I have seen on ESPN+, I don’t trust SELA’s QB when it comes to decision making, and Lamar should be able to get a couple INTs as a result. Turnovers will be the difference in my view and getting 2.5 at home is bonus as I would have played Lamar at -2.5 or ML 140.

Furman at VMI - Furman off bye, VMI has covered 3 straight. Vs teams not named The Citadel, they are still being ougained by a very consistent 176 ypg the last month. The only good offensive player on VMI was Hunter Rice, he's a 20+ carry per game RB, but only had 6 last week (injured?). Their covers are coming by way of the which keeps scoring down and tries to put their O in favorable situations - ST and D has contributed 20 of the 36 overall pts VMI has put up the last 3 weeks (pick-six, blk'd punt, short field FGs following TOs). 4 of last 5 gone Under. Furman suprisingly has been an Over team 4 of their last 5. That is because their SoCon opponents not named The Citadel or Stetson are averaging 42 ppg against them. The Citadel game did go Under, as it did for VMI. The Citadel has more juice than VMI does, Furman won that game just 17-16 and had to come back from 13 down to do it. Furman only outgained them 274-257 (4.8-3.5). Last time out Furman's D was humilliated to the tune of 801 yards allowed (9.7) to a record setting WCU QB Gonzalles (652y passing). FanDuel opened this at 14.5 which is what Massey had. Since been bet down to 11.5, total unchanged at 46.5. Pride for the Furman D should show up I would think after their last game, plus VMI O is not capable. Tough call. I would rather have Furman, but hate to have to cover. Even vs The Citadel, their O was a no show. Under would feel best, the number is probably what it should be, but don't think I am betting it.

Gardner Webb has been all over the map. SEMO started slow and had their typical 'cant' score in the RZ game' again plus both GW had 2 of their 3 TDs on short fields. So GW covered only losing by 6 but were outgained 274-432. GW had a 491-457 yard edge in a 42-35 win vs Lindenwood (ran for 306). GW was blown out vs UTM trailing by 32 before garbage time (38% of their yards and 82% of their pts 4Q). Vs the two good teams they played GW was just 5 of 28 on 3rd down vs UTM and SEMO. SEMO ran for 120y on them with a RB gaining 122 - this is notable because SEMO hadn't rushed for 100y on any Big South/OVC team yet this year. Lindenwood ran for 213, UTM ran for 235 and Tenn Tech ran for 340...wow. Charleston Southern played Jackson exclusively at QB last week and he is pretty bad. McCoy has been bad too. It's a bad team. CSU did have some fight on the road last week coming back from a 7-19 HT deficit to lead 21-19 but lost by 5. They are 3-1 in their last 4 as dogs (TTU, SEMO, TSU covers, failed to cover vs Lindenwood). They didn't score an offensive TD vs Lindenwood which is something considering how bad the Lindenwood D is. SEMO outgained them by 160y, but CSU covered because once again, SEMO kicked FGs instead of scoring TDs. CSU went Over for the first time this year last week and it was one of their better offensive games, which was still fairly bad. GW games trend to the Over as their D is bad. This is a tough ask for a bad D to cover on the road even though CSU is pretty weak offensively. I don't want anything here. I'd go Over 44.5 if I had to just because it's low enough - it's the lowest CSU total on the year and GW is typically totaled in the 50s.

If Elon is favored by 8.5 of somebody right now that team must suck, because Elon sucks. Here is Elon's O the last 3 weeks - 168y (3.2) 21 pts at Hampton, 281y (4.8) 30 pts at Albany (TWO KO ret TDs), 231y (3.7) 10 pts vs New Hampshire. Before their bye they did gain 382 (6.3) on Richmond but could only socre 17 pts off those yards. And vs ETSU they only gained 271 (4.8) and 14 pts. Failed to top 300y in 4 of their last 5 and the only time they scored more than 21 pts was becaue they returned two KOs for TDs. Last week their O really just had one good drive all game (one TD was a 2p 6y drive and the other was a 70y pass). Elon is on a 0-4 ATS run as a favorite and lost each one outright! Hampton sacked them 6x and Hampton only sacked opposing QBs 15x total in 7 games prior. So for them to be -8.5 right now must mean Campbell is awful? Well they certainly aren't good. They only led A&T 14-7 4Q, but did win and cover as a favorite for the first time this year. Last week also snapped a streak of them being outgained the prior 4 (56 ypg) as they were +52 ttl yards vs A&T. A&T as we know is pretty bad. Campbell did only lose to W&M by 7 their last CAA road game, although that was typcially a 14 pt game and Campbell scored late. Campbell D had been pretty bad, allowed over 6.0 ypp to W&M, NCCU and Delaware State of all teams (8.2 ypp allowed!). I was thinking Under in this game because Campbell's O usually means games go Under - they have scored 21 or less in 4 games and 24 or less in 6 games so far this year. But even vs a bad Elon O I'm nervous to go Under with this Campbell D. Last year Campbell was better offensively and they lost at home to Elon as 5.5 pt favorites. Elon won 28-24 but Campbell outgained them 402-358. It is really hard to justify Elon laying over a TD to anyone right now. One common opponent where Elon beat NCCU 41-19 as 5.5pt road favs and Campbell lost to them 14-45 as 4.5 pt home dogs. Guess that shows the ceiling and floor these teams are capable off. Transative property aside, I would take Campbell and Under if I have to, thankfully nobody is forcing me.

Towson has either been upset or pulled an upset in 3 of their last 4. They beat W&M as a 5 pt home dog (21 pts off TOs) and last week won at Monmouth as 9 pt dog (held Monmouth to 14!). They were also upset at home by Stony Brook as 9.5 pt fav (lost by 28!). Towson is 0-3 ATS as a favorite, but 5-0 ATS as a dog which includes 2 outright wins and a shoulda won vs Villanova (missed game winning FG twice). They can run (200y on W&M and SB) or pass (306 on Norfolk and 75% for 243 on Monmouth). Richmond has been on a roll since the bye week. Off a bye they beat Delaware 28-9 (only 378-324 ttl yard edge though) and scored 6 straight TDs to open on Bryant last week winning 41-14. Bryant is a severaly overmatched team on a weekly basis right now in the CAA. The Delaware win was quite nice for Spiders especially defensively. Going back a little further, Richmond has outgained every FCS foe this year but they had a sleepy game with A&T only winning 20-17, beat Elon by 10 and took full 4Q to pull away from DSU and win that one by 'just' 14 (23 pt fav). Richmond is hot right now, but I think Towson's recent success as a dog will have me taking them at +8.5. Towson was 6-2 ATS as a dog last year, that makes them 11-2 ATS in dog roles the last 2 years. In Towson's covers as dogs this year they are +8 TO ratio while in their 3 favored games -8. When Richmond is +2 or more in TOs they are 4-0 ATS, then they aren't they are 0-4 ATS. TO margin alwasy being key, it looks very decisive for these two teams.

It would have to be Drake -20.5 or nothing, probably shouldn't overthink it and just take them. They have won a game by this margin or greater once this year, beating Valpo 27-3 (356-80 yard edge!). 30 is the most they have scored on anyone in regulation this year. Marist lets everyone not named Valpo score more than 30 on them so Drake should have their highest scoring game of the season. They are actually a very weak rushing team avg under 3.5 ypc in 4 of 6 games this year - only ran for 128 and 4.1 on Valpo which makes that Valpo's second best run D game vs a lined opponent. Last year was just 10-3. Drake did have a head scratcher game 19-16 in OT before their bye as 12 pt road fav. That was -4 TOs for them as they had 152 empty yards on TOs that ended drives in Presbyterian territory. Like I said if I overthink this I am going to avoid it. If I just look at it and say, yeah, Drake less than 3 TDs looks appealing based on the kind of D Marist has played - if I try to justify it, not quite as easy.

Only thing among these games I feel pretty decent about is Towson.

Have to go do yard work now. Probably won't get to anything else until tonight.

I got my FD account suspended again. Looks like I won't be betting any of their shit openers for a while.

I kept thinking about the Montana State - Eastern Washington game outside today. Looking at some numbers now.

Montana State has been such a beast in the 1H of their games:

at Portland St 35-0
vs Idaho 24-0
vs No Colo 27-0
at Idaho St 17-7
vs Mercyhurst 31-0
vs Maine 38-7
at Utah Tech 14-0
at New Mex 14-24

Avg 1H score MSU 25 OPP 4.75

Eastern Washington did play a better 1H last week, but they haven't been good 1H this year:

at Idaho 13-17
vs UC Davis 9-28
at Sac St 14-21
vs Montana 14-31
at Nevada 3-21
at SLU 21-21
vs Drake 14-13
vs Monmouth 28-14

1H avg score EW 14.5 OPP 20.75

I had forgotten that the Griz were up that much on EW at HT. That was a huge game for EW, always is vs Griz in Cheney so surprising that even in that game they were slow starters.

I guess this line, 13.5, is right? That is Massey's line. Sagarin is 15.8 and Reddit is 16.5. Griz were -16...why would Cats be a lower favorite? EW has been very competitive, not good enough, but for a 2-6 team, they are still giving it all they have. Now they face the best team on their schedule.

As it always has been, the run D is still a huge problem. Idaho ran for 252 (5.9). Vandals were only averaging 159ypg (4.5) in their other 7 (excluding Oregon). UC Davis ran for 220 (5.5) on EW. Well, sure Davis has a great running game...but they don't! 116.3 ypg avg rush (3.5) in their other 6 games (excluding Cal). Sac St is an exception, Hornet's 127y (4.4) was below their avg. How about Montana? Griz ran for 337 (9.4) on EW and they have had some huge rushing games this year, avg ypg in their other non-EW games is 230.5 in the other 7 games. I'll stop there, the last 4 games, except Sac State, everyone is rushing for more on EW than they do vs other teams. Montana State avg 312.8 ypg (6.8) rushing. Ah yeah, EWU not going to fare well.

Visperas finished the Idaho game on the sideline icing his leg. I think he plays here, but might that injury effect him? If he isn't in the lineup or is less effective the EW passing game will be way way different. EW does have a good rushing game. But against Montana State?

I took Montana State -13.5. I was kind of surprised it was below 2 TDs and hasn't moved, yet. Heritage offers some 1H lines so I will look for some Montana State in that capacity as well should they have something there. I don't think it would move this much, but if this line were to get to 20 I might see about some middling.

Maybe history keeps the line down? In the games Montana State won it was 57-14 in Bozeman last year. Based on performance to this point, this year feels like it similar. 2022 and 2021 were just 3 pt MSU wins and then EWU won 7 straight before that.

Only one Montana State game this year is much of a concern, the at Idaho State game. Cats led 17-0 2Q, but then it was just 27-17 early 4Q and it was a misleading 37-17 win as they scored a final TD with :00 on the clock to cover (-16.5) and Vigen acted like that wasn't really supposed to happen. So that would be the red flag game for laying this many vs a try-hard but often fail Eastern Washington team. On the other hand, the UC Davis - EW game gives me some confidence in how it started and how it finished (Davis got up big, EW came back within 7 pts, then Davis got back up 17 before final EW TD in closing minutes.

I just think that Montana State is on another level. They are like NDSU. They are like SDSU. They aren't just another good Big Sky team like Idaho or Montana and since the schedule has fairly soft to date, their games in November should serve to prove a point.

The last five seasons at home EWU has played 23 home games

Only one time did they lose by more than 13.5 pts

Think I'm going to stay home for tomorrows games

Getting tired of spending the day at the casino.

Looking back at a few early games I skipped over.

Kind of want Duquesne hosting Mercyhurst even at 22.5. Mercyhurst is not a full NEC member yet so their games do not count in the conference standings. Duquesne is off the Stonehill game, who actually beat them 2 years in a row and have the big game vs Robert Morris on deck making this a less than ideal spot to back Dukes. They were bet up to a 19.5 pt road fav last week and led 31-6 and 48-20, but SH got 2 TDs in final 2min. Beat a bad SFU team 38-7 (two D scores), but maybe their most impressive recent win was 47-21 vs LIU who isn;'t as bad as their last two opponents, Dukes led them 33-7 HT. So Duquesne would've covered this line vs their other NEC opponents, well, would've covered it vs Stonehill if the backdoor stayed closed. Mercyhurst was closer than the 17 pt loss at SHU shows last week, but Mercyhurst D is giving up 7.4 ypp to SHU and 6.6 to CCSU. CCSU ran for 301 on them. Way back in week 3 Robert Morris O gained 8.8 ypp on Mercyhurst and won 55-28 as 14 pt favorite. It all points to Duquesne naming their score. I think it's probably a game the starters get out early enough which makes the 3 TD+ line potentially problematic.

Not sure on CCSU, sitting -9.5 hosting Wagner. The worst FCS game for Wagner this year is only being outgained by 69y vs Robert Morris (and only lost that one by 7). The last 7 Wagner games have gone Under because 1) they play good D (allowing just 274 ypg) 2) have limited O (four of their six vs FCS scored 14 or less). Wagner has played 2 of the worst teams in the league. Their Robert Morris game was close though (lost 14-21). CCSU has played so well vs some tough teams. I think that Wagner might make them work for it, but CCSU should do enough to win and cover I'd assume. This is just CCSU's 3rd home game and they've won their last two by 30 (Fordham) and 18 (Mercyhurst). If the Wagner D is for real, I'm pretty sure their O is who we think it is, then this total at 49.5 would be high. Only 1 CCSU FCS game has gone Over (Mercyhurst).

Brown has beat Penn 2 straight years as 10.5 and 13 pt dogs. This year Penn is the only winless Ivy team, and Brown is the only team who has beaten Harvard, as fluky as it was, to be in position just one score down vs Harvard for Brown is impressive. Brown is thought of as a weak defensive team, the surprise this year is that Penn is right there with them in most defensive categories. Brown's O produces on the field, while Penn's potential on O has yet to be realized this season. QB Sayin's status is uncertain meaning it could be backup O'brien who is more of a runner. Brown just got done facing Cornell's Wang. Penn's O should be more of a challenge overall than Cornell, but Brown did good job and actually Harvard's worst Ivy game on O was vs Brown (299y 4.3ypp (Crimson O has avg'd 492ypg and 7.15 ypp in their other two Ivy games). Brown is trying to do the impossible, win the Ivy which is unlikely, but at 2-1 with a win over Harvard they are alive. In their Ivy loss to Princeton they had a 443-379 yard edge (4.8-6.2) but lost 5 TOs (-3 net). It doesn't feel like enough pts to take Brown at just +3.5. Based on the product on the field for Penn has been getting worse weekly.

Merrimack has covered 4 straight, 2 as dogs (1 upset) and 2 as favs where their O scored 48 and 51 the last two weeks with 479 and 535 yards in those games! They blk'd two punts last week. Colgate does sometimes play some offense and Merrimack did well vs them. Stonehill and Morgan are weak so Robert Morris is going to be a step up. RM O did struggle scoring just 17 on a solid SFU D last week and they only scored 23 on DSU a few weeks ago. The 479y (8.9) on LIU 2 games ago is what they are capable of. Robert Morris has huge game vs Duquesne on deck. It is weird to see them as a home dog to Merrimack. Only +1.5, I would want some more before taking a run on the Colonials.

They haven't lined Cornell at Princeton yet or Monmouth at Rhode Island

New Hampshire at Albany is a tough one. UNH O avg just 235.75 ypg the last 4 games. Went from scoring 23 at Harvard, to 17 at Elon to 9 vs URI (TD with :28 left) to 6 at Villanova (FG in final minute). And last week they were on their backup QB. Can't run at all and it's all short passes. The D has been doing good though. Held Nova to 257 (5.5), URI to 318 (5.0) and Elon to 231 (3.7) and those 3 avg just 16.6 ppg. Good offense has been elusive for Albany as well. Had a good outing vs Cornell, but vs CAA, including Bryant who everyone scores on, only averaging 18ppg and 294ypg in their CAA games. Their D is doing pretty well. Delaware scored TDs on 3 of their first 4, then only 1 more the rest of the game - D giving up 317.5 ppg vs CAA - allowing 27.25 ppg but that includes a pick-six and two KO ret TDs, so the Albany D on the field is only giving up 21.25. This total is 49.5. Albany is 4-1 Under their last 5 since their bye (avg total 51.9) and New Hampshire is 3-0-1 to the Under since their bye (avg total 49.7). These are some struggling teams that are playing better D than O.

Nothing I am in love with here. That New Hampshire - Albany Under 49.5 looks appealing.

The last five seasons at home EWU has played 23 home games

Only one time did they lose by more than 13.5 pts

How big have they been dogged at home in that span? I think comparing their home dog spreads to the number of times they have lost by that margin better. They have only been 2 TD dogs once I think right? And they lost that one by 24 in 2022 to Sac State on a 13.5 pt spread. Seems comparable to this situation - Sac State finished the regular season 11-0 and that EWU team finished 3-8.

I had Duquesne on my short list and after watching a lot of the mercyhurst game last weekend, I agree that the Dukes should be able to have their way with em, but not a fan of how Duquesne fails to go for the jugular at times. With a big spread like this, my fear is that they go up 28-0 and then cruise to a 41-20 type victory to screw the cover. Would prefer 20.5 or less so will see what BM comes out with tomorrow as it might be worth it if the juice is reasonable.

Also considered grambling, pvam, Alabama A&M, utc and a few others, but just couldn’t hit that submit button on any of em, as each could win going away or get caught sleepwalking tomorrow.

I did take Chattanooga +1.5 when I saw it Thursday. Line still there. Gonzales got hurt and didn't finish last week. Not sure his status, but with him banged up, plus the WCU D isn't good enough here. I thought UTC would be favored and they probably move that way Saturday. UTC good well balanced all-around team. Won 5 since the Mercer loss, not a lot of tough teams, but the one quality opponent was at ETSU where UTC won 17-10 in a game that didn't feel that close (+172 ttl yard edge). Last year WCU was -3.5 at UTC and won 52-50! UTC is a playoff caliber team this year while WCU is 4-4 and hasn't beat anyone with a winning record yet.

Lindenwood O the last 4 games - 280y 20pts vs TSU, 392y 29pts vs CSU, 457y 35pts at GW, 572y 49pts vs W ILL (10.6 ypp)! Operating at a high level right now. Those are some pretty bad teams. W ILL put up 713y on them last week! The pass D is awful as W ILL passed 76% for 564 on them and the run D equally bad with GW putting up 306 (5.8). Tenn Tech has only won 1 of their last 4 games, last week vs CSU 28-23. Lost to W ILL the week prior, lost bad to SEMO and lost to SC State before that. I really can't make any kind of educated guess what happens here. TTU games have not been a strength of mine.

Maine at Oklahoma - it is next to impossible for me to formulate any kind of opinion on any FBS team this far into the season.

Southern - Alabama A&M - pass, don't think I have seen any A&M at all this year or analyzed any of their game results.

Houston Christian at Incarnate Word - HCU lost by 49 and 30 the last two weeks vs SFA and SLU. SFA really put it on them 561-208 yard edge (8.3-3.1) for SFA in that one. 21.5 feels a little low with those recent results in mind. Back when HCU beat McNeese and Indiana State in back to back weeks maybe not. HCU is back to being unstable at QB. Last year UIW closed with HCU and won on the road 45-24 as a 13 pt fav. Word off big game at SLU and have Lamar on deck. UIW only beat McNeese 30-17, that was never more than a 10 pt game til towards the end - UIW 2 TDs on 7 RZ trips, and that is not typically an area of concern for them so call it a fluke. A little controversy I hear on where UIW is ranked in the poll. They should be able to get some style pts here if they want as long as last week didn't take too much out of them.

Figure out Samford. They follow up the Mercer win by flopping at The Citadel. This team lost to West Georgia and now The Citadel, a team they normally beat by 3+ TDs, they lose by 17 and their only TD of the entire game came with just :36 left. That is actually their only 4Q TD of the entire season! This has been a bad Samford team all year. Their home opener they only beat Alabama State 12-7. Wofford has been getting woodshedded lately, losing their last two by combined 12-61 score vs UTC and ETSU, pretty good teams, but still. They are on their 3rd QB, Odum remains out. Seems like forever ago this was a competitive team with Richmond and William & Mary. Samford is a bad favorite, but Wofford is playing their worst football of the year. Samford has won 9 straight in the series, however with the kind of year they are having, wouldn't shock if that streak ends. Not sure how anyone can confidently pick this game.

Prairie View at Mississippi Valley State - Valley just played two of the weakest teams they will in the SWAC and failed to cover either of those. Both were competitive games, but the favorite covered 7.5 and 10 leaving Valley 1-6-1 ATS on the year. I've said it before, it has yet to matter, but Valley O is playing much better avg 327 ypg the last 2 games compared to 230ypg their previous 6 - outgained by 258 ypg in their 6 six on average, outgained by a total of just 85y the last 2 weeks. But the D was as bad as it has been allowed 422 (7.5) and 35 to Pine Bluff. PV rebounded to beat A&M Commerce last week with TDs of 59, 76 and 80y! 7.7 ypp. PV hasn't won any game this year by more than 7...but this is Valley. Would lean PV not getting involved here.

Passing Pine Bluff at Jackson, Grambling at Bethune as well.

Eastern Illinois has been bad all year, but their box scores are getting weird. Lost to UTM last week 17-52, but only trailed 17-28 3Q. 3 INTs by EIU lead to 21 UTM pts and they score 24 straight. Total yards 396-460 (5.3-8.7). EIU only trailed TSU 17-20, but then lost 17-41, total yards were 435-365 (5.4-5.9). I haven't seen them play since week 2 or 3. EIU is 0-2-1 ATS as a fav and both losses were straight up as well. They don't run well, Holley still throwing it around but with a 9-10 ratio. Western Illinois been pretty hot, on offense at least, 30+ pts in 3 of their last 4, went from 329y vs CSU to 294 vs UTM, 446 vs TTU and 713 vs Lindenwood last week. Too bad their last 3 drives ended in fumbles at the L32, L14 and L11 or else they would've won last week. Never trailed by more than 7 and often led in the 2H, but those fumbles and a late score by Lindenwood made it an 11 pt final and...well Lindenwood ran for 389 on them, so there are some problems with this D. CSU ran for 325 on them, UTM 306 (at least you kind of expect them to). Both the upsets that W ILL has had lately vs CSU and TTU were fueled by TOs. Led 14-0 at CSU after 2 TOs and led 10-0 vs TTU off TOs. Can't make any kind of case for Eastern in this one. Western has issues, but at least they have won some games and nearly won last week.

Had thought I wanted Central Arkansas, but they are not playing their best ball the last two weeks vs West Georgia and North Alabama (outgained in both nearly lost to WG and only beat UNA by 5). Utah Tech on the other hand has been playing much better their last two. Had one of their best offensive games last week and the D has improved finally.

UT Martin at Tenn State will be interested. I really do not want to lay those points and do not think that Tennessee State is very good, but off a bye, with conference title hopes alive, big game for Eddie George and team. You think TSU plays good D, and they usually do, but they play so many weak teams in league. Eastern Ill put up 435y on them but just 17 pts. TSU D figures to get stressed today and Ellis is up and down and their O isn't that good. UT Martin D doesn't create a lot of turnovers or negative plays, but they did a great job on an otherwise hot Western Illinois team. Kind of looking forward to watching this one.

I keep seeing McNeese as a 10 pt fav and thinking 'man, is McNeese that good to lay that with Sixkiller at QB?' Commerce beat them by 31 last year! McNeese is better, but is Commerce any worse? Turnovers continue to be a huge problem for them.

Any Dll games of interest?

Wingate at Lenoir Rhyne probably a good game

Not sure if YSU's win last week will give them some juice or set up a let down spot. Illinois State D has been shockingly bad.

I took the over 43.5 at open in the Oklahoma game as their offense is bad, but they should be good for 40 against the Maine D and Maine won’t rollover so should contribute a score or two. 45.5 is out there now which I would still take.

SFA has lost both their games with short lines at McNeese and at SLU. Nicholls not playing the best of late. Couple unimpressive wins the last 2 weeks. Leaning towards SFA.

Monouth favored at URI. I wanted Monmouth, but not to lay pts on the road vs undefeated CAA team. Weird line

When you can only score 20 against NW state, you got problems.
