I am going to give a quick answer on why I think there may be value in Houston.
Houston this year has never lost 3 in a row.
The first 2 games of this series Houston was fighting major road dog umps. The second one last 3 years was even money for the road dog last 3 years.
Today this guy is fine with chalk and the shift to a rightie may help as Houston is 10-5 vs right handers.
Yesterday was Texas;s best day of the week. They are 0-4 today..Tomorrow they go with the true Texas ace Martinez.
Will this pan out, Not certain at all and just watching. Do what you want I am not involved.

I understand we disagree, but you're way off on a lot of what you wrote.
Gallardo is the ace since the Holland shoulder injury, YG signed a big deal in the offseason to come in as he's from Dallas. Meanwhile, Martinez was lauded as the worst starting pitcher in baseball by a lot of people I respect including our own Tone10 and simply has gotten off to a good start.
Speaking of good starts, a 25-game sample size is not close to being statistically significant as we aren't close to 20% of the way done the season. Losing three in a row has a probability of 13% and the worst baseball teams usually win 40% of their games, so avoiding three in a row isn't exactly amazing (especially when they've played so few games).
The way you seem to work values streaks and MLB is a sport where people say that works, but to develop these rigid opinions one month into a six-month grind is not something I'd want to do. Good luck tonight :shake:

You're attempting to make an argument for this on the basis of 13 AB's this season? Think the fact LH's hit .201 lifetime vs. Sale (626 AB's) might be the somewhat more pertinent stat here...

A good topical example of deceptive small sample size was Chase Whitley's performance in a dome. He got lit up in his first indoor game last June but then threw 7 shutout innings with the roof closed on Monday.

It sucks that we can't all agree on what represents an adequate sample size, but what sucks even more is when someone has no idea of the concept of small sample size. Interpreting whether or not information is arbitrary or not can be very polarizing and it really sucks. The main takeaway though, in my opinion, is to always do your own research and not depend on information from someone else. Partly because other dudes' information might not even be theirs to begin with. Also taking things with a grain of salt helps, and above all, winning money. If we all win money then everyone is happy regardless of sample size!
