Boise is -24.5 and total at 56

Let's discuss I'll be back with info, articles, etc........

Don't know much about either and I'm not going to research much more into this game, but it seems like 24.5 is a bit much to lay to a capable team like La Tech

Strong lean to Boise here. Isn't a chalk due? Not that it's a legit angle... but nationally televised game... line is moving upward... at home. Capable rushing attack that can tack on the lead.

Something about the blue turf pulls quarterback Taylor Bennett to Boise.
He briefly committed to Boise State out of high school.
He accompanied Georgia Tech to the Humanitarian Bowl at the end of the 2003 season, his first college road trip.
And his last game as a Yellow Jacket was last December, again in the Humanitarian Bowl.
Now Bennett will lead his new team - the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs - into Bronco Stadium on Wednesday (6:07 p.m., ESPN) for his first battle with the Broncos. He won't, however, play against best friend David Shields, a Boise State linebacker who is sitting out his senior season with chronic shoulder problems.
"One more hurrah, I guess," said Bennett, who is a senior. "It's sad, though, that I'm not going to get to play against David."
Bennett transferred to Louisiana Tech this summer after earning a bachelor's degree in international affairs from Georgia Tech. He was the Yellow Jackets' starter last year, but the arrival of option-minded coach Paul Johnson left him with a diminished role.
He was granted a waiver from NCAA transfer rules that require players to sit out a year because he is pursuing a master's degree at Louisiana Tech that emphasizes computer information security. Louisiana Tech is the only FBS school with that program, Bennett said.
The Bulldogs also had an experience void at quarterback and several of their assistants had worked with Bennett for years at a Manning football camp.
"We were real thin at that position," Louisiana Tech coach Derek Dooley said. " We didn't bring Taylor in to be the answer, but we did bring him in to push for a starting job."
Bennett hasn't been sharp in the first three games. He has completed just 41 percent of his passes and he's last in the WAC with an 82.76 efficiency rating.
However, it didn't look that way on film, Boise State defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox said. Bennett is a strong-armed, mobile, accurate passer, Wilcox said.
"He's a good thrower - we've known that for a long time," said Boise State coach Chris Petersen, who recruited Bennett after the Broncos spotted him at a high school combine. "They're still trying to run their system and I think he's still trying to adjust to it. We know what type of arm he has, what type of plays he can make."
Bennett was more efficient in the Bulldogs' last game, against Southeastern Louisiana. He had a bye before that game and an extra half-week to prepare for the Broncos, so he should be at his sharpest this week.
While Bennett is adjusting to a new offense, the coaches are trying to adapt to him, too. Bennett joined the team in August.
"We're going to continue to progress," Dooley said, "and hopefully he will, too."
Bennett graduated from Lafayette High outside St. Louis a semester early in late 2003 and committed to Georgia Tech. Shortly before reporting, he switched his commitment to Boise State, then back to Georgia Tech.
He was able to join the Jackets for their bowl practices that year and travel to Boise with them. Georgia Tech whipped Tulsa on Jan. 3, 2004.
Bennett redshirted in 2004 and was a backup in 2005-06. He started the Gator Bowl at the end of the 2006 season in place of ineligible starter Reggie Ball and produced 326 yards and three touchdowns against West Virginia - creating huge expectations.
He started every game last year, but struggled (105.97 efficiency). He exited the Humanitarian Bowl loss to Fresno State at halftime with a broken throwing hand.
That's when his future got cloudy. At first, he pledged to stay at Georgia Tech. Then he investigated his options and realized he could earn his degree in the spring and transfer in the summer.
Along the way, he talked to the Broncos again - about possibly joining the team as a practice player.
"I think he found a really good home in terms of someone who needed a guy to play," Petersen said. "Talking to us, he just wanted to go to practice and be coached in a passing offense."
At Louisiana Tech, he can do much more than that.
"We want to win a WAC championship first and foremost," Bennett said. "We want to have a winning season and go to a bowl game."
If that happens, he could be back in Boise for another Humanitarian Bowl.
And the opponent - who knows? - could be Georgia Tech.
"I know that's a possibility," Bennett said. "That would be one heck of a story."

Conference: WAC
Record: 2-1
Last game: Defeated Southeastern Louisiana 41-26 on Sept. 20
Next game: at Hawaii on Oct. 11
COACH
Derek Dooley is the only head football coach/athletic director in the Football Bowl Subdivision ranks. He took over the department this summer, after just one season as the football coach. The former LSU and Miami Dolphins assistant - and the son of Georgia coaching legend Vince Dooley - is 7-8 with the Bulldogs.
OFFENSE
The Bulldogs utilize two tight ends and two tailbacks to create a power running game behind a monster offensive line that averages more than 305 pounds per man. They also will use a spread passing attack.
It's a big-play offense that features some high-end talent - particularly quarterback Taylor Bennett, a former starter at Georgia Tech, speedy wide receiver Phillip Livas (15.7 yards per catch) and tailbacks Patrick Jackson (All-WAC second team) and Daniel Porter.
The Bulldogs have a history of generating explosive plays against the Broncos. That's why Boise State coach Chris Petersen calls Louisiana Tech "an extremely scary program for us to play - always has been and always will be."
DEFENSE
Much like Oregon, Louisiana Tech will use its safeties to crowd the line of scrimmage and take away the run. The Bulldogs limit foes to 93.3 rushing yards per game.
However, the emphasis on run defense and blitzing leaves them susceptible to the pass. They rank last in the nation in pass defense, allowing 348.7 yards per game.
The Bulldogs do a nice job of stiffening in the red zone. Opponents have scored just three touchdowns in nine red-zone visits. Kansas, in fact, scored a season-low 29 points.
"The best thing we've done," Dooley said, "is make the other team kick a lot of field goals."
Junior safety Antonio Baker (32 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble) was an All-WAC first-teamer last year.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Punter Chris Keagle is an All-WAC first-teamer who rarely allows a quality return. Kicker Brad Oestriecher has nailed three field goals of at least 47 yards. And the Bulldogs are coming off a game in which they scored two touchdowns and set up a third on special teams with a punt return, blocked field goal and fumble recovery.
Livas has two punt returns this season - a 57-yard touchdown and a 28-yarder. Teammate Philip Beck was second in the WAC last year with a 17.4-yard average. Both are dangerous on kickoff returns, too.
DID YOU KNOW?
Louisiana Tech won the first four meetings, including a Division II semifinal in 1973 and a game that decided the WAC title in 2001. Boise State has won the past six, but three of those games (all in Ruston) were decided in the fourth quarter.

Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore, making the third start of his collegiate career, guided the Broncos to a 37-32 win over Oregon on Saturday and was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation Bowl Subdivision National Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced Sunday.
The redshirt freshman from Prosser, Wash., completed 24-of-36 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns as Boise State won its first game on the road against a member of a Bowl Championship Series conference. Moore, who had one interception in the game when it was tipped at the line of scrimmage, finished with an efficiency rating of 178.67.
Moore has completed 57-of-79 passes (72.2%) for 840 yards, five touchdowns and one interception in leading Boise State to a 3-0 start. His efficiency rating is 179.82.
Moore is the second Bronco player to win the national award. As a sophomore in 2006, running back Ian Johnson won when he rushed for 240 yards in Boise State’s 42-14 win over Oregon State.
Boise State is off this Saturday as it prepares to make its first national television appearance of the season on Oct. 1 (Wednesday) against Louisiana Tech. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and kick off at 6:07 p.m. in Bronco Stadium.

Right, Freshman safety George Iloka saw significant playing time against Oregon. His role with BSU should continue to grow. Left, Chris Carr saw time as a true freshman for Boise State. He now plays for the Tennessee Titans.

They say you can't coach speed - and that's a big reason why defensive backs have made up nearly half of the true freshmen who have played for the Boise State football team in the WAC era.
The Broncos have played 14 true freshmen who came straight out of high school - in other words, excluding grayshirts and returning missionaries - and six of them have been defensive backs.
That includes two true freshmen this year, safety George Iloka and cornerback Jamar Taylor. Iloka made his first career start earlier this month at Oregon and should play extensively Wednesday at Bronco Stadium against Louisiana Tech (6:07 p.m., ESPN).
"The need has been there and I don't think it's a position where you have to be overly physical," defensive backs coach Marcel Yates said. "If you have speed, good feet and good hips, you can come in and play DB a lot faster than if you're an undersized linebacker, offensive lineman or defensive lineman."
Of the defensive backs, only cornerback Orlando Scandrick was a regular starter as a freshman. But the entire group - Chris Carr, Marty Tadman, Scandrick and Brandyn Thompson - has found success (see chart).

Tech to open conference stretch at Boise State

Louisiana Tech opens conference play on Wednesday at Boise State, and the WAC has seen some changes since the season opened a month ago.

Boise State and fellow conference mainstay Fresno State were pegged to finish at the top of the conference standings in preseason polls, and have performed as expected.
But there has been a bit of a shift in the middle of the pack.
Hawaii, picked to finish fourth, has struggled to a 1-3 start. Hawaii's lone win came against FCS foe Weber State.
Nevada, picked to finish third in the conference standings, was dealt a major blow when star running back Luke Lippincott tore his ACL and MCL in a Sept. 6 loss to Texas Tech. The Wolf Pack is 2-2.
Those two teams figured to be Tech's main competition for postseason berth. With Boise State and Fresno State likely to coast to bowl eligibility, Tech's chances of securing the WAC's third automatic bowl bid look better than ever.
But Tech head coach Derek Dooley isn't taking anything for granted.
"I don't think the conference is any different than what my perception was in the beginning, which is every team in the league can beat us," Dooley said. "That's all I'm concerned about."
Hawaii has endured a tough out-of-conference schedule, with losses to Florida and Oregon State, but dropped a somewhat surprising 20-17 decision to WAC foe San Jose State on Saturday.
Injuries and inconsistency have plagued Hawaii's quarterbacks. Three different quarterbacks — Inoke Funaki, Tyler Graunke, and Greg Alexander — have started games for the Warriors this season.
"Right now I just want to get some stability," Hawaii coach Greg McMackin said.
Lippincott garnered first-team All-WAC honors last season after rushing for a conference-best 1,420 yards and 18 touchdowns.
"Certainly for us he was a great player, and a motivational factor on and off the field," Nevada coach Chris Ault said. "It's a tremendous loss. You don't replace him."
Tech, on the other hand is off to a 2-1 start despite opening the season against teams from the SEC and Big 12. After Wednesday's game, Tech visits Hawaii on Oct. 11, then hosts Idaho — one of the WAC's worst teams — on Oct. 18.
Dooley said he's not one to look at a schedule and predict wins and losses, but is happy with where Tech stands through five weeks.
The preseason is over. Sure, am I happy with the results? You can't be upset because you're 2-1. But there are a lot of things that go along with the process that we're not happy with. In some ways that's more important, because that's going to affect the result down the road.
There's no tougher place for Tech to start WAC play than in Boise, where the Broncos have been practically invincible against conference opponents.
"Everybody in the league would be happy if they had the success that Boise State has had," Dooley said. "I've always said that if you want to be a championship team, you've got to go toe-to-toe and beat the champion.
"To get our program to where we're competing for a conference championship every year, you've got to go up to Boise and compete with Boise."

hard to go against boise on their home turf. especially when latech gives up these passing numbers............377 to sela, 410 to ku, and 250 to miss st. boise should be able to score early and often which will take tech out of their gameplan. bosie stacks the box and makes bennet beat them with his 48% completion rate. strong 1st half trend for boise at home too. it is a lot of points though. leaning boise.

LA Tech. "Going to compete" is like waiving a white flag.

Boise rolls IMO and tries to make a push to crack the top 10 sooner than later.

that's what i'm looking at too. latech's inability to throw consistently is gonna make it hard for them to keep close.

Really leaning toward Boise here too. A decent defense can keep "a competing" La Tech offense in check.

Not neccesariily (sp) meaning could just accepting dog role and trying to put your best out there and not rolling over.

I am not betting this game so no strong opinion as to a huge value ....

but I have bet against bosie state at home as an inflated favorite before many times. They always seem to find a way to cover , especially on ESPN games. Cap the game out and there is no way you can find a great value in the Boise St side at this number...... but fading boise on the blue turf at home is not the way i like to start my betting week.

weather will not be an issue ......

No prob Dmart...

Not sure on a side yet but looking at Boise State ...looking more at the under as Boise State defense is better then previous years and the offense will improving isnt the quick strike , explosive squad it has been previously ...:cheers:

Figure it out later:cheers:

i would lean to the under as well...only way latech stays in it is by keeping boise off the field with long drives on the ground

Boise St. at home is very tough. They have great crowd support and it get's really loud there (been to a game). Something about the Smurf Turf plays a mental role. When I was there, some of the locals told me even they get annoyed when staring at that turf for too long and it does get to you.

Ian Johnson is slow getting out of the gates this year. I think this is why there running game is not as dominant quiet yet and the fact that defenses are keying in on Johnson.

Boise St. OL:
LT = Potter (Fr. 6'6", 272 lbs.) Fr.
LG = Woodruff (6'2", 320lbs.) Sr.
C = Byrd (5'11, 275lbs) Fr.
RG = Gott (6'3", 286lbs.) Sr.
RT = Sapien (6'4", 274lbs.) or Slater (6'4", 281lbs); both are So.
TE = Oneill ((6'3", 250lbs) Sr.

LaTech DL:
DE = Jordan (6'4" 245lbss) Jr.
DT = Baron (6'3", 230lbs) Fr.
DT = Grigsby (6'4", 242lbs) So.
DE = Logan (6'1", 244lbs) Jr.

Boise St. will try and run the ball no matter what, but I think the big advantage is the WR corps vs. La Techs. secondaries:

WR:
Perreta (5'10", 195lbs.) Sr.
Childs (6'0", 196lbs) Jr.
Hawkins (6'3", 223lbs) Sr.

vs.

Secondaries:
CB = Howze (5'9", 170lbs) Sr.
Cb = Brown (5'10, 175lbs) Sr.
S = Young (5'11", 185lbs) Jr.
S= Baker (5'11", 200lbs) Jr.

While La Tech showed they can stop the run, they gave up:

Southeastern Louisiana = 377 yds. passing, 1 TD, 0 Int
Kansas = 477 yds. passing, 3 TD, 0 Ints.
Miss. St = 257 yds. passing, 1 TD, 3 Ints.

Besides the first game, they're secondaries look a bit shaky. It is expected from Kansas, but So. Louisiana? Although So. Louisiana only had 1 offensive TD, but that was a 55 yard bomb that made it a 20-17 game in the second quarter. If you look look more into that game, you could see La Tech had a hard time pulling away as the final score is deceiving.

Taylor Bennet also has 2 TD and 3 Int (1 returned last week by So. Louisiana) on the year with 441 yards passing and a rating of 41.4.

Boise St. DB has collected 4 Int. on the year. 1 at home vs. Bowling Green and 3 at Autzen Stadium against the Ducks.

Given the recent history at Bronco's stadium, this may get ugly with the energy and fan support. Also now that Boise St. is back in the rankings, I look for them to continue to move up and the only way is blow teams out the door...especially since there in the WAC.

I had FAU +2.5 and thought about ML. You got to ask yourself when playing these shit teams, how much confident do you have to bypass the points and just take the ML on them? As evidence showed last night, all they had to do was bat the ball down.

Boise St. thrives on national T.V. and they come to play.

and if they can't...boise/over seems likely...? this is what i am counting on as lean to the broncs/ov.

this program is the model of consistency which is why i believe they kill the books year in and year out. it amazes me what they have done through coaching changes and rise to no longer flying below the radar...still loading up...still explosive in all phases. i think this team is more explosive than last years (i will note that i am going off of replays, boxscores and around 30 minutes of film at oregon). what history shows is they pound la tech at home and struggle with them on the road...right down to duplicating the score the last two meetings on the blue (55-14). throw in the need to impress on a stage presented to them tonight and you have to expect an attempt to bust 50. sure seems to me that they can do it. clock changes do present a concern but i don't think it will keep it under the number (or impact covering the hefty spread).

just my rambling thoughts on this interesting midweeek treat...

good luck fellas:popcorn:

I agree and what's funny is I usually take the points regardless (most people like the plus money on the ML when it comes to dogs) of the game. Haven't followed Boise too much this season so this thread is helping me determine a play or pass.

Careful here. Though Boise state might seem like the superior team here, covering a 24.5 spread is very unlikely IMO. Take a closer look at how they closed out their first 3 games. They were able to close out well vs Idaho since they suck ass, but Boise state was outscored 0-7 by Bowling Green and 13-19 by Oregon. This is screaming a backend cover for La Tech. Either way, I don't think the Under would have a chance tonight.

Oregon, may have been the better team and was facing prevent, time burning oriented defenses... I don't think Oregon covered that 2nd half... so for what it's worth... Boise still outplayed them.

They were up 20-0 at half with a dominating defense... with Oregon on slate for the next weekend... why risk anything in a game no one cares about?

National television tonight... tonight's the welcome to the BCS picture once again game that they NEED to make a statement out of because BYU is doing it every week.

I'm liking the over here. I think Boise will be out to make a statement, and they know that for non BCS conference teams they have to score points to make an impression.

I also think that Bennett is way better than he's played so far, he's due for a breakout game and has a little extra motivation for his Boise ties in the past.

OVER!!'an_horse'

I love Bosie at -24, my numbers have Bosie winning by 31 and with the smerf turf combined with the mid-week travel, I think 24 is a great deal

Small play on Boise tonight.
La Tech is a different team at home than it is on the road. They had a nice win against a weak MissSt team and SE LA...but they did give up 26 points to SELA (23 in the first half, so no garbage time scores here) and were outgained vs MissSt.
Road game, well, they got crushed by Kansas, more telling then the 29-0 final was the 536-237 total yards disparity. Kansas's defense is not really that good.
I do think the back door will be open here, but BSU at home is usually money, especially on national television.
I think a 45-14 type game is in store for us here.

For discussion sakes, here is my copy/paste from my thread.

Boise -14 (1st half) for 1unit

Going half what my standard play is but LaTech is a different team away from Ruston, this is a pretty far trip and its during the middle of the week and I've said countless amount of times, I hate mid-week travel for road teams. Boise on the smurf turf is one tough team to go against and I vowed after having Oregon St +14 a few years ago to never do so again. OSU was up 14-0 and then was hammered for 42 straight points, anyway, that has nothing to do with this game. I think the LaTech passing defense will give way to Moore all night but worried about this back door being open so I'll play on the 1st half. I know this game will be 100x better played than that shit last night. Boise might take the 1st quarter to get started but in every game this year, they've been up by more than 14 in the first half <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Not going to start up a thread for just one game and not sure what I'll be on for the weekend just yet... busy.... but...

Boise 1H -14 -120 1.5 X (@ BM, Much cheaper at Greek if you go there)

Parlay -> Boise -23.5/Utah -9.5 (Friday) 1/2 X to win 1.1 X
