Utah/BYU

Two Utes

Manual Toothbrushes FTW
Yes, I'm a homer and yes, Vegas wasn't built by throwing out bad numbers on a regular basis but can someone tell me what their opening number was for this game?

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around BYU -2 at the open. Yes, Utah lost some talent from last year I agree, but they are reloading with much better players each year than they were before the PAC 12. BYU looked so slow against PSU and from what I'm guessing they looked even slower against LSU(I was out of town and didn't watch). Utah has quite a bit of speed on offense and Carrington should give them nightmares.

I know there is value in a decent team that gets stomped the prior week but I'm not convinced that BYU is a decent team. Their skill positions don't look very skilled to my eye and Mangum is nothing more than a jump ball QB. Who knows how good LSU will be but to not have one offensive play in LSU territory is hard for me to believe.

Tell me why I shouldn't be all over the Utes.

I thought Utah, Minn, and SDSU would all be favored by a TD, so don't look at me.

Yes, it has moved as it appears all the money is on Utah. Agreed MW. I hadn't looked at SDSU number yet but thought similar about Minny. Head scratchers.

BYU is just lacking athleticism across the board. Haven't seen a team of theirs lacking so much skill in a long time.

I'm on the other side...

My reasoning:

I think Utah will struggle quite a bit on offense. First test with a totally revamped and new scheme, new qb and rb, both of which barely won out camp battles, new and inexperienced O-line, running game they rely on versus BYUs front 7 strength, and a promising playmaking receiver that is also matched up well on the BYU side. They should start slow (like Huntley did last week where he was pressing and threw an early pick against a much worse defense) and the atmosphere should certainly help. Mangum redemption big time at play here and he's been here before. I think there's plays to be made down the field against the Utah secondary and believe Mangum will be ready to make them behind a more experienced line (despite average athleticism on the outside...). Every one of these games is close. So if we're assuming a close game, give me the hungrier (6 year drought) home team with arguably the better defense, more experienced qb (arguably the better qb) and o-line. Think they find a way to make enough plays to win....

^then again I had an atrocious week last week and bet BYU last week and they got destroyed so don't listen to the only dissenter lol

Thanks for the input. Good stuff. Agree Frank, the least skilled BYU team I can remember in a long time.

I saw BYU live....NOW, LSU defense is super fucking legit.

BUT, there D line looked pretty good vs our O line....not sure how good our O line is, but VK says the BYU D line is grown man type shit

BYU always is good on DL, and Utah's OL is green but this is not the same Utah offense you have seen the last 6 years. Troy Taylor's offense gets the ball in space to playmakers quickly and let's them do their thing. I don't think BYU has the speed to deal with Utah's skill players. That being said, I think BYU will get theirs against Utah's DB's both of which are first year starters. BYU won't be able to run the ball.

Yes Twink, Marcus Williams is a ball hawk. Will he play much this year?

They like him a bunch

Kenny V is here and Vonn Bell.....but I've heard he is pushing for time pretty hard

Sad, but I can't get a total deal on if he starts or what....
