Bruins +1.5 at -172
Predators ML at -125

Boston is a great parlay candidate at +1.5 because it is a great candidate to win. The Bruins have won six in a row. It’s not like they’ve just been facing bad teams. They beat Detroit by three goals, for example. Even though the Rangers are subpar, it takes a lot to beat them by eight goals. For comparison’s sake, elite Colorado’s best win over the Rangers this year came by three goals. So the Bruins are really playing as well as anybody right now. Conversely, their opponent tonight Dallas has lost four in a row. The Stars’ offense is cold, but they also allowed four goals in their last game. Based on how these teams are playing, it feels like a super modest ask for the Bruins to stay within a goal.

Nashville has, over the course of its season, improved substantially. The Predators are winning more consistently. Related to this improved consistency, they are in a strong spot tonight because they lost their last game. They have won the game that followed a loss nine times in a row. A Buffalo team that is currently down, having lost two in a row, won’t disrupt Nashville’s bounce-back streak tonight.

Devils +1.5 at -180
Kings ML at -180

Considerations of form cannot outweigh certain types of larger, historical considerations. Yes, the Oilers are playing really well now, but considerations of their team history this year must impose limitations on the length of time that we expect their strong form to continue. Edmonton is 0-6-2 in their eight games that followed a two-game win streak. So, expect them to lose today. They will lose to a New Jersey team that has lately regained its footing, having won three of its last four games. It’s more than reasonable to ask the Devils to stay within a goal tonight.

With the 26th-ranked goal-scoring offense, the Rangers’ strength this year has been its defense. However, key defenseman Adam Fox and starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin are injured. Bereft of valuable defensive personnel, they are allowing over six goals per game in their last six games. In their best game, they held the Flyers to three goals in a game where the Flyers were outmatched from the start. Otherwise, they’ve even allowed four goals at home to Seattle, whose goal-scoring offense ranks fourth-to-last. Count on the Kings at home, where they can lean on their second-best goal-scoring defense to make it easy for them to score enough goals to win.
