_8 totals of 0-2 runs.
11 totals of 3-4 runs.
35 totals of 5+ runs (64.8%)

Baltimore has gone 78 games without posting consecutive Under results. They are 51-22-5 to Over during this period (Unders rate of just 28.2%), and are 19-0-2 to Over off their last 21 Under results.

They play Tuesday off an Under result on Monday.

I'd like to play the over tomorrow, but if they couldn't find a way to hit Richard and the sox couldn't find a way to get a few more on Waters, well...

Since July the 6th, the Chicago Cubs are...

- 28-3 SU in games which they've scored 3+ runs (22-8-1 to Over)

- 0-11 SU in games which they've scored 0-2 runs (10-1 to Under)

Don't forget the Sox rested a couple of big bats today, and they had to play out that extra game bullshit, and it was a Monday affair.

Philadelphia is 15-4 SU (.789) in their last 19 home games they've scored at least 1 run in.

LA is 2-8 SU (.200) on the road with Manny in their lineup (yep, Manny is a difference maker - LA was 6-4 SU in their previous 10 road games without him).

Since July the 22nd, the Atlanta Braves are...

- 10-3 SU in games which they've scored at least 5 runs (12-1 to Over)

- 0-19 SU in games which they've scored 4 runs or less (10-8-1 to Under)

Since the All-Star break(ASB), Florida is...

14-5 SU off a loss
3-13 SU off a win*

*They are 0-9 SU off their last 9 wins, and play Tuesday off a win on Sunday.

Plus it was LHP vs LHP. Sox have struggled offensively on the road vs LHSP and Balt big bats are mostly or in Roberts case hit better LHP. :cheers:Tough to deny the trend...plus the pens worked more because of the suspended game:shake:

Suddenly DET cant beat LHSP thats now 4 straight at home vs LHP and 7 of 9 . The sad part is the opposing LH's havent been good.

They get Cliff Lee again and they finally hit him late last start but he faces off against the rookie "Highlander " .....

Price change ...DET goes from -220 to +150 ...basically have to play DET here dont ya ??? :shake:

Early lean I love phils RL, TB rl

Mets don't do well against Moyer, and Phils have hit Pedro well

Toronto can easily get shut out or lose 3-1 against hitting Ryas

Also like first inning run scored YES prop bet

Wow ! How baseball has changed .

Mike Pelfrey the 1st Mets SP in 13 YEARS to throw B2B complete games !!!!!

CyYoung is rollin over in his grave

with that bullpen, and Pedro going tomorrow, and an 8 run lead...

He better have gone 9

Just a few days till September call ups

Think over 9 @ Philly has to be played . Who gets 13 Hit shutouts??

Andy Pettitte's revenge ....ML

Det ML +150 home pup ...

Pitt +200 home pup

Roy Halladay's revenge ML

Over 8 Wash v LAD

FLA ML

Under 9 Cincy maybe Cincy isnt it like Wandys 3rd start vsthem this month?

Thats as far as I looked:cheers:

Bill Hohn is always an automatic Under alert, and if I'm not mistaken his last 2 BHP have gone Over (he's U/O 14-6 now, I remember him being 14-4), making the impetus for his delivering an Under even greater.

his last one was an under in OAK with Greg Smith pitching against Ryan Rowland-Smith as i was on it...

So you're telling me it's o.k. to follow my initial lean and play the over?

Just saying it was a good spot for an under to come through but 11 does seem high with Floyd starting but really havent looked it at this game . Burres is LHP as well so would check on WS scoring recently away vs LHSP...

11 totals you want to teams swinging well and WS did nothing but strand runners all weekend vs TB and Balt has slowly quieted down....

Guess I would pass at this moment ..

So you're telling me it's o.k. to follow my initial lean and play the over?

Nope. Balty bats are still in a mini slump, and on principle I'd back CWS before the Over because Over is, imo, going to need the WS to lead the way scoring wise. So Over = CWS win, and if it goes Under the WS could still win anyway = CWS offers greater chance of collecting at the window than Over.

Like the under in anaheim tomorrow with Smith on the mound. Angels bats are in a funk. I've watched them the past few games and although they are producing runs, they are not flowing at all. They had 3 men out today in the first 2 innings because of dumb base running errors. I dont care if they scored 5 runs on sunday, as it was a horse shit triple by matthews that was accountable for 2 of the runs. You couple that with diaz and rival play against the As and I really like the under here..

In San Francisco's last 18 losses they are 0-18 when given the +1.5 run line and additionally 4-41 in their last 45 losses.

In 26 games started by Barry Zito, San Francisco is 9-17. In 16 of the 17 losses, the opponent has won by 2 or more runs (94%). San Francisco has provided Zito with a mere 27 runs in those 17 losses - an average of 1.59 RPG.

In Cincinnati's 15 August losses they are 2-13 when given the +1.5 run line.

Randy Johnson has recorded 9 consecutive quality starts logging 59.2 innings and striking out 57 batters while walking only 7. During this span the Big Unit's ERA is 2.13 and WHIP is 0.96.

Derek Lowe has recorded 10 quality starts in his last 11 at home logging 76.6 innings and striking out 55 batters while walking only 13. During this span Lowe's ERA is 2.35 and WHIP is 1.08.

Despite going 11-9 in their last 20 games against left-handed starters, Florida's lack of run production has been consistently poor. In 19 of the 20 games, the opposing starters have tossed 115 innings giving up only 37 earned runs (2.90 ERA). Whether or not Florida wins seems to rest completely on their starting pitching and the opponent's relief pitching since Florida has tapped out at 3 runs or less against the lefty starter in 19 of those 20 games (3, 2, 2, 0, 3, 2, 2, 1, 2, 2, 3, 1, 3, 2, 2, 0, 2, 2, 3). The one exception was the 7 runs scored in 1.2 innings against the turbulent Jorge De La Rosa who couldn't find the strike zone.

John Maine has pitched past the 6th inning in 2 of his 25 starts this year.

Mike Pelfrey has led the New York Mets to a 13-0 record in his recent starts against any team but Florida. During this stretch, Pelfrey has pitched 54.2 innings giving up a mere 8 runs (1.33 ERA) at Shea Stadium. In fact, in Pelfrey's last 10 starts at home against any team but Florida, Mike has given up only 13 runs in 75.1 innings (1.56 ERA). Pelfrey has struck out 48 while walking 11 and has given up only 2 homers in those 10 games (solo shots from the San Diego Padres' Kouzmanoff & A. Gonzalez).

id like to also point out that kurt suzuki is an angel killer on the base paths. This kid can hurl a ball. He has one of the lowest base stealing success rates in the league. He definitely hindered the angel's ability to manufacture runs today. I see no difference tomorrow.

Tampa Bay is 13-1 in James Shields' starts at Tropicana Field. The lone defeat was a 1 run loss on May 14th against Mike Mussina and the New York Yankees.

10 of their last 15 vs lefties they've scored at least 5 runs, and of the other 5 they scored 4, 4, 3, 3 & 2

Wsox are like 16-4 at home vs LHP so for them I view it as completely different offenses based on Home vs LHP or Away vs LHSP

Away vs LHSP -
4-Waters
13- Dont really weigh this vs Gio Gonzalez who struggled the start after
2 -G.Smith
4-Braden
5- Perkins
6-Robertson
11-Harrison wont ever weigh Harrison I dont think
2-Kershaw
0-Stults
3-Lilly
1- Rogers
4-Robertson
0-Kaz
2-Laffey
3-Zito
2-J.Sanchez
8-Washburn
3- Loewen

Since the 1st week of the season..

18 away games vs LHSP only 5x did they score more then 4 runs including today . Also 11-7 Under..think 10-8 SU......

Just my perspective of why I said to check them vs LHSP....

Burres won 5-1 @ Chicago in April.....

With 11 totals I would like to see alot of 6and 7s (as the mean numbers) to back an over even with Burres capable of a crap outing ...Which basically you said since you need WS to score for this to get over and on the surface I would agree as Balt winning 8-4 would suprise me..:shake:

Tampa Bay is 13-1 in James Shields' starts at Tropicana Field. The lone defeat was a 1 run loss on May 14th against Mike Mussina and the New York Yankees.

I see #2 on the horizon......

Halladay has been outstanding on the road with exception of TB who beat him twice allowing 5 runs both times . Halladay L18 vs the AL is 14-4 since May 1st losung to Cle and TB twice and is 0-3 vs TB in 08. Hurt by a big inn in each usually after the 5th. He has 7 away starts where he allowed 1 or 0 runs and another 2 where he allowed 2 runs....

Crawford and Longoria will be missed as Carl is 5-11 and Longoria has 8 RBI vs him with 3 triples and 1HR bewteen the two.

Only concern is the pens as they dont impress me . Looks solid though knew today was an UND when I saw 8 as uesterday was an 8 and pushed but Ervin vs Slowley pretty strong compared to Braden vs Weaver....

:shake:

In Balt Markakis in a minifunk and is 95pts lower OBP at home then away with his avg dropping 62pts to 269. Pretty good reason why there are a better OVER team away . He hits alot better and one would think there pitchers slide simply because of pitching away from home...

Last 2 months CWS have scored 6, 5, 4, 2, 4 on the road vs lefties. Going further back is nearing irrelevance imo.

And Burres has been a write-off at Camden Yards ever since the Yankees destroyed him there in late May (WHIP 2.13, ERA 8.76, BAL 1-5 SU vs AL teams, only win when giving him 10 runs of support).

True BC. I wouldnt say its irrelevant though because imo scoring 2,4,5,4 when looking at the opposing SP still is not good . Its below what a talented lineup full of RHBs should score IMO and the lineup itself hasnt changed much . The fact there is no real improvement all season to me says they just dont do well vs LH away . Understandably the stats themselves may be irrelevant but not the profile it created. Agree on Burres as he has stunk for awhile now but was Chris Waters any better before today ? Plus he was removed from the rotation and now gets another chance the kid was money early on extended rest and fade material taking a normal turn . For me I just think its hard to predict what Burres does and it wouldnt be suprising to see the game finish 6-5. Mora and Markakis having rough week or so . GFloyd slowly improving last few starts ...

Just think I could see a 6-5 game here or 7-3 or 7-4......tough for me to call

It;s like what does scoring 0-3 runs so often say ? Weak offense . Or what does allowing 5 + runs say ? Weak pitching ..that type of mentality ...so I f say certain teams have scored and so and see it repeatedly then I dont use the runs itself much just the conclusion if a team is hitting well or poorly maybe even neutral which is what 4 runs represents to me .....

Waters benefitted from a few factors Monday that we've already noted. The WS are 7-2 SU off their last 9 wins (got Monday's result order mixed).

Saint Louis is 0-6 SU their last 6, and 1-8 SU their last 9, vs Milwaukee (and 0-5 SU their last 5 home games against them - no home fortress here).

Finally MIL is 8-2 SU vs any Cards pitcher (2-0 SU vs Wellemeyer) other than Wainwright (who they are 1-2 SU against).

No doubt who are the pretenders, and who are for real when appraising these 2 teams. Huge series for Milwaukee even if it is only 2 games, given a decent showing here will go a long way to euthanizing the Cards faux p.s. push via the WC.

STL have left (after this series): 7 vs Zona, 6 vs the Cubs, 3 vs Florida, 4 at Houston (who, no matter how uselessly they're going, will always get up at home for these guys), and 3 at Pitt (who they have the alternating results streak going which would = a Pitt 2-1 series win). Only 6 vs Cincy provides any sort of respite, and 2 vs Volquez should prevent any thoughts of going undefeated.

Milwaukee, on the otherhand, has a sweet 10 game homestand just around the corner, vs a Mets team now down a crucial stater and with "no bullpen" (surely everyone sees the inevitable on the horizon there, the Brewers may well be the one's to kick it off) then 4 vs SD & 3 vs Cincy (5-2 probable outcome if not 6-1), and a nice lead in (Pitt/Cincy) to their final series of the season vs the Cubs.

Someone desperately needs to win this series 2-0, don't see it happening personally.

oakland TT under and possibly throw LAA in a parlay with something..... just havent decided what yet.

lack-dogg has dominated the A's lifetime (who hasnt at some point in their career).....

hes 13-3 2.77 ERA in 24 starts career against em and he already shut them down once this year.

A's strugglin of late against rhp-hittin .179 last 10 games..

lackdogg 13-3 2.79 ERA in 24 starts against em and he already shut them down once this year and won his last 4 between the two

angels are just a good matchup for smith.... the a's are happy because they say that hes an aggressive pitcher and attacks the strike zone- but the free swinging bats and power in the angels lineup could be a good counter for that... although he did pitch well in LA against em two months ago.

also like the fact that the angels are of a loss today, and only put up 1 run... theyre 4-1 SU after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game, and i dont have LAA record off a loss but if someone can post it, im sure its very good. just a good spot to back them IMO...

need to wait for some vladdy info though. heard its probably going to sit him out for 2-3 games, and that it was his knee acting up- the artificial turf at the trop

i like halladay at plus money but am worried because the rays have hit him pretty well this year, but he had a mediocre first half and is throwing his best stuff now... thats all i got for now need sleep, gl fellas

SPORTNUT, this makes no sense they have a lefty tomorrow and O's have a right which contradicts this statement.

Strong trends and numbers but not all are that indicative if you ask me. Since you're talking those kinds of numbers you may want to add Sheets is 1-6, 4.08 ERA in his encounters v STL in last 3 seasons.

The Cards have seen A LOT of Sheets in the past few seasons, their current lineup is a combined 64 for 244 off him (.262 BA).

*Pujols is 26 for 68 (.382) off Sheets in his career with 4 homers
*Pujols is also riding an unreal stretch right now. He's 10-for-15 with two homers and 10 RBIs in the last four games. He's hit safely in eight straight while batting .563 (18-for-32) with four homers. Sheets has regressed significantly since Sabathia came in, and the run support the team has been providing for him has been slashed almost in half. He does not enjoy being the number two SP in Wisconsin and the team is feeling it, his fastball isn't as overpowering and the team is only 3-5 in his last 8 starts.

To prove it, in his last 8 games Sheets has received 2 (v HOU), 2 (at SD), 6 (v WAS), 0 (at ATL), 1 (vs CHC), 4 (@ STL, MIL won 4:3) and 8 (@ SF) runs of support.

Now, I don't think there's denying to the fact Sheets himself has regressed of late, and the team hasn't provided adequate run support for him.

I see good cappers here using the revenge factor often, but not now?

STL got SWEPT at home a month ago, a 4 game sweep to the Brewers. Now they're 3.5 games behind the Brewers and could make it 1.5 in two days and you don't think this is the spot they get up for?

Ok to disagree, but why wouldn't they step up?

As far as current form is concerned, the Cards have been absolutely en fuego as far as hitting RHPs is concerned, they've been tearing right handed pitching at a .355 clip in their last 10 games, compared to Brewers' .247. At home the Cards tag RHPs for .289, while the Brewers again sit at .247 on the road for the season. The Cards will have the better arms of the bullpen ready for Tuesday which is very important, and they will send out the much improved Todd Wellemeyer, who has had a turbulent season. After a very solid start he regressed dramatically and had to take a break to heal all the injuries and get himself refocused. He did just that in the past few weeks, by holding opposing hitters to a .230 average over his past six starts, and combining for an ERA of 2.48 over that span.

The Brewers have been dominating the Cards, but that fact alone does not warrant them getting up in St Louis here.

Especially since sans Ankiel (.195 BA in August), basically everyone in the Cards' lineup have been producing and hitting the ball well, while the Brewers have a couple of liabilities.

Prince Fielder hasn't homered in 10 games and is only .228 in August and Ryan Braun has been on and off going back and forth due injury. They have received top notch production from Mike Cameron (.360 BA in August, 8 home runs) but Cameron has been known as a lefty killer, he only hits RHP at a .236 clip.

Just something to think about. Having said all that I like STL a lot tonight.

Satyr - aside from the fact I didn't call MIL to win either game specifically (simply that I personally don't believe they'll go 0-2), the fact remains as bad as Sheets has been against STL, MIL won his last start against them (in STL, 7 IP for 2 ERs). What that means to me? From my pov, at this time of the season for clashes like this (Mets/Phillies is another, only my personal take there isn't as clear cut as here), the starting point isnt old stats, the starting point is where I see the respective teams ending up relative to the playoffs married to recent stats (how they're performing come crunchtime = post ASB), and if it isnt clear from what I've posted by now what my pov is regarding these 2 teams, then let me repeat it -

Milwaukee is going to the p.s. Saint Louis isn't.

Teams forging ahead for new ground have the kind of energy going that allows players to step out from old shadows. Sheets pitching so well in STL last time out in light of his old stats against them = manifestation of that exact reality. He ditched the old shadows because his team has the energy: winning that 4th game carrying a 3-0 series lead into it made it the toughest of the 4 games for them to win, STL was coming with their all/hell-for-leather that game, yet Sheets bucked those old shadows still.

As for revenge: STL was looking for "revenge" in games 2 then 3 then 4 in the last series these 2 teams played in STL, after every subsequent loss - how'd they do? Baseball plays too many games for any revenge angle, other than that tied to bad blood incidents, to be of any real meaning imo, thats why I never mention it. So no mention of it in my initial post is nothing unusual from me.

So, again from my pov, if the collective weight of specific stats are overwhelmingly in favour of STL for both games - I dont know since I haven't dug beyond what I posted regarding H2H results initially & for this post - then be prepared to see them confounded in at least 1 of these 2 games.
STL had their day in the sun against the odds 2 seasons ago. It's not their time to shine, it's their opponents.:shake:

the cardinals should be thankful the last 5 startes they faced were jo-jo reyes, jorge campillo, charlie morton, jason davis, and ian snell (who completely shut them down). a lot of those numbers are inflated because of how miserable harang was

:shake:

I understand your standpoint. I think it comes down to this.

Milwaukee is going to the p.s. Saint Louis isn't.

I will go against the grain (the grain being MIL is 3.5 games ahead of STL, have owned them this season + they have a better schedule ahead) and say I think St Louis will overtake them.

Having watched both teams I think that with all the problems the Cards have had (first losing their number one closer Isringhausen and having to mix their bullpen because of that), the issues with Carpenter and if you wish, Wellemeyer as well, since he had a great start to the season followed by a drastic regression (I think the turning point was STL's 2-20 loss to PHI, he had 7 or 8 AWFUL starts since then, but picked up lately), and the fact the Brewers have only had good things happen to them (getting Sabathia practically for nothing, everyone pretty healthy so far, pen working fine, etc), it's a miracle that they're only 3.5 games in front.

And looking at these two teams, analyzing what they do and how they win games, I rate STL above MIL. I think guys like Fielder and Braun won't show up when push comes to shove in the playoffs (if they reach the playoffs).

Don't get me wrong, I love what the Brewers have done, I just think the Cards have that run in them, and I'm going pretty much against the grain here all things considering.

the cardinals should be thankful the last 5 startes they faced were jo-jo reyes, jorge campillo, charlie morton, jason davis, and ian snell (who completely shut them down). a lot of those numbers are inflated because of how miserable harang was

well it's not like the Brewers had only Cy Youngs at their deck.

Last 10 SPs Milwaukee have faced (in the brackets is the number of runs scored vs respective opponent, meaning the starter + pen)

Maholm 4
Gorzelanny 6
Duke 10
Wandy Rodriguez 5
Moehler 2
Wolf 9
(all these games were played in Milwaukee, and even if you take out the fact that they produce more at home, you cannot disregard the fact that ALL of these pitchers have miserable road numbers)
Before that they had a road trip which ended in this manner:

Facing:
Peavy (lost to SD 2:3) Sheets was the starter for Milwaukee
Billingsley (lost to LAD 3:5)
Lowe (won 4:3)
Kershaw (lost 5:7)

Before we take the Brewers' impeccable run as a fact, check their schedule before the mentioned period.

Not exactly a world of contending teams either. Now I'm not indicating "they should have done better" because they have done GREAT, but saying that STL faced inferior opposition and has that fact to thank for those numbers is not something I agree with, since the Brewers had their chance to shine as well.

Basically I think the Brewers can afford to lose here. Not that they will willingly agree to lose, but they can afford to. St Louis can't. Now I do not use urgency alone as a factor to base my plays on, since it doesn't do the trick, but when a rather good team is in this spot + the revenge factor + the opposing SP not receiving adequate RS and is in a slump of his own + the team I'm betting on has been producing at a high rate...

at this price, I'm taking a stab.

Roy Halladay is 6-2-3 to Over his last 9 starts in which the loser wasn't shutout, at an average of 9.54 runs/game.

For the season generally -
O/U 8-4-1 -- avg 9.77 runs/game when the loser scores at least 2 runs
O/U 1-10-2 - avg 4.61 runs/game when the loser scores 0-1 runs

This season Roy has 14.0 IP in Tampa for 10 ERs (WHIP 1.50), although the now injured Longoria was responsible for 6 of the 10 RBIs (incl. a GS).

Satyr - you recognise it yourself but you don't put the dots together as a result.

Saint Louis haven't had things happen for them/go their way this season (exact opposite of 2 season back, when, after furnishing a shitty record that doesn't even earn them a div. title in any other NL or AL division or wins them a WC in either league, yet allows them to make the p.s. only because they were in the old "NL West" lol, and any other AL team making the WS kills them: but we-dont-know-how-to-take-or-earn-a-walk Detroit does, and the rest is history), whereas everything is lining up for Milwaukee.

You pay attention when things are lining up for a team, and when they aren't.

Another example just recently - things lined up for the Giants (their schedule gifted them a shot at the Pats at the perfect time - close to the playoffs - and they lost a close one which, not that they knew it at the time, was what they needed to happen), they didn't line up for the Patriots (having to vanquish a tough opponent twice in such a short space of time, and lucking out having to get by San Diego not Indianapolis - the former imo taking far more out of them in that AFC game than what the Colts would've done).

Call it karma, call it fate, whatever. But when recognised, I don't counsel backing against it in significant spots - facing a team that is a direct threat to a desired fate is what I'd deem a significant spot.

BC I am connecting the dots but making different conclusions from the picture I see.

Milwaukee have had it all lined up for them and are 3.5 games ahead of St. Louis, who have had a turbulent season.

How much longer do you think that 'karma' as you call it, can continue? If the Cards are healthy (finally) then them posing a threat to the Brewers is a realistic option. After all who is to say they can't make a run and make up for the 4 games behind? I don't think that's so far fetched.

You've basically made up your mind about Milwaukee going to the playoffs, I'm on the fence saying STL may overtake them in the end, which is the less likely option looking at the current standings and the schedule ahead, but I'm allowing that option to take place.

The season is far from over, and after all, my bet here isn't "STL to reach playoffs" but STL to win this one game.

If they win this one I'm not sure if I will back them tomorrow, going one step at a time. For all I care, the Brewers can be the next World Series winner, I care for the Cards to step up tonight, which is where I see the edge in their favor is.

Satyr: The Cards bullpen is imo awful & will cost them games down the stretch.

good point. That's another thing I have to look at for tomorrow since they have their top arms available tonight.

Down the stretch, could be costly, I'm hoping it won't be the decisive factor tonight.

Some notes on posted UMPS:

Wendelstedt: When the line is 7 or less he is 2/0 to the OVER

Darling: When the line is 9.5 he is 4/1 to the OVER

You've basically made up your mind about Milwaukee going to the playoffs

I've recognised reality is actually working for one team, and not only not for the other, but against it.

As for their lead being 3.5 games, what do you think I think it should be? I've never equated STL with being equal to Pitt, or Cincy or Houston. They should be closer to MIL than those other teams. Closer doesnt = ahead of. I dare say when MIL edges them at the end of the reg. season, they'll be 1 to 2 games out, closer than they are now. But things will continue to go the Brewers way - the sun is shining on them. And it'll keep shining on them til they meet the Cubs. The sun shining on the Cards 2 years ago is behind some heavy clouds at the present.

Satyr - you recognise it yourself but you don't put the dots together as a result.

Satyr, appears you could use some help in here.. All your logic makes perfect sense to me. Unfortunately I am traveling all day today and will not be able to get to my thread to write this up. Trust me, I could write a book on this.. a few quick points..

It will be a playoff atmosphere in the Lou tonight.. Go to a game in South Florida on a Tuesday night in August. Then go to a game in the LOU on the same night and you'll understand the difference. The Milw choke begins IMO, just like last year

Punk Braun's (and yes he is a punk albeit a very talented one) walkoff HR, watch it for 20 seconds , pull my shirt out bullshit made this a huge motivational play for Stl.. Agree, baseball is baseball and you can only do so much when revenge is in play but I refuse to believe Mil continues to dominate in Stl.

Not going to have time to start a thread or continue this so I'll just post it here.

Stl -105, 3 units

and besides Satyr owes me one..:smiley_acbe::whip:
