Rex, I'll drum the stats up in time, but Wakefield this season has been horrific against +.500 teams, outstanding against .500 or less teams.
So would really like to see the Red Sox win today, adding that extra impetus for Tampa to feel the need to win tomorrow.

Sounds like good reasoning, might follow-up on this.

Wakefield

vs teams 7+ games over .500
ERA 7.96, WHIP 1.96 - O/U 3-1-1, avg 11.80 runs/game

Boston 1-4 SU, only win an interleague game (and then only by 1 run).

vs all other teams (best of which is 2 games over .500)
ERA 2.60, WHIP 1.01 - O/U 4-5-2, avg 8.45 runs/game

Boston 7-4 SU

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Last 3 starts vs Tampa
ERA 12.19, WHIP 2.21 - O/U 1-2, avg 14.66 runs/game

MM, I really hate Boston is losing today. They got an untrustable Dice-K going on Wednesday against Kazmir, and the chances of the home team going 12-0 thru 12 games this season between these 2 are.....?

Would you be surprised if the Rays swept the series BC? I wouldn't.

Me neither. You can't make a winning team lose. If Boston is going to win a game in this series, tonight appears to be their best shot.

Not suprised. But its at the point where it's so easy to call now between these 2 (that is, just take the home team). And my concern is baseball grabs you by the balls when you think its easy.

Valid Point, on the flip side baseball also screws you when you think it's too easy and lay off. I personally think baseball is one of the hardest sports to cap.

I personally think baseball is one of the hardest sports to cap.

i used to think that too.

the more you follow it, and get a couple years under your belt, you will come to see its actually the easiest, and the most profitable one, imo...

NFL/NBA lines are way too tight.

i shouldnt even say a couple of years, thats just for me as im relatively new as well compared to some of the posters on here that have been capping bases for over a decade + now.

I hope so. I play ball for my college, and I like to think I have good baseball knowledge, but knowing how to play the game isn't as much of an advantage in gambling as I once thought.

I will prolong this slight offtopic by saying that even though baseball can seem easy at times, because there are times you only need one of the facts straight, for example:

"Pitcher A will get shelled tomorrow due to ____"

and that's all you need, sometimes. There are other times where no angle or edge in the world is going to help you nail a winner. And I mean not one.

The thing with baseball is, teams play 162 games in the regular season and in some of those games, they don't seem to care too much, or generate any offense.

Take the Yankees 08 for example. They need a real challenge, they don't just go out and win routinely. The worst thing the opposing team (paradoxically but true) can do is to jump to a large lead early.

This is where they get really pissed and make their lives miserable. But for example tonight, with Damon and Matsui out (the same two guys who were out in that 10:0 thumping of Pittsburgh in the middle of Pittsburgh against Duke) they had what, 4 hits? Against FELDMAN and TEX middle relief?

Seriously?

But try to fade them, and they'll put 15 runs on the board, because they're a 300 million dollar team.

Look at the Angels. There are days this team wins games routinely but there are days they can't hit ANYONE.

Look at their run differential. All their wins are small ball and all their losses (most of them) are blowouts or multi run losses.

Yeah there are angles to follow but in my experience throughout the years MLB is the hardest league to cap among the North America based sports (I don't cap NFL).

For example, you give me an NHL situational bet, and I will pound it, it will come through. NBA does similar. But in MLB there are no situations you can count on, I feel like the random factor comes into play way too often in baseball.

To note, Cabrera left tonights game with a hip flxor. Ordonez is already on DL and Pudge has been hobbling a bit as well. Nate really didn't pitch that good his last time out. He just made a few clutch pitches and got some timely double plays. The Cardinals left many on base that afternoon

fwiw

I'm going to the Twins game tomorrow night, and I can't remember the last time I attended a game they lost. I'm on Baker and Garza tomorrow night...fade away...

I hate the number but OAK/LAA UNDER. Santana owns the A's especially at home and Harden is pitching as well as anyone.

Cardinals RL. The Mets suck and are even worse on the road against RHP. Wellemeyer outside of the one horrendous start in which he was hurt has been dominant at home.

No opinion on Philadelphia/Atlanta. The Phillies are 5-1 against the Braves this season but they are struggling right now, especially against RHP. From what I can gather Morton is a decent pitcher. However it's never a good idea to fade the Phillies with Kendrick on the mound. Watch this game and then see if there is something better on Wednesday. Who knows maybe the under is the way to go, but I won't tempt fate.

Twins ML

I'm tempted to OVER the game in Phoenix tomorrow with Suppan pitching on the road and the Brewers shellacking Johnson last time. Both of these teams can put up runs in the right conditions. I think there is a good chance it will be a high scoring affair.

statistically, both Minny & Colorado have some great angles to support their winning tomorrow.

Problem is you'd be betting against the runaway freight train that is Detroit (injuries or not - and replacements are stepping up bigtime, Raburn & that new catcher winning games for them - they have to be feeling it at the moment), and you'd be betting on the ice bound Rockies, who are finding ever increasingly strange ways to lose.

I like the SF/Cubbies over at first glance....

cubbies hitting .310 in last 10 against RHSP...
SF off a shutout tonight we can look for them to bounceback tomorrow, RHSP is the ONLY thing they can hit, and marquis always has trouble keepin em in the park and has been terrible in his last couple of outings against balty and chicago ( and both of those were at home too ).
cain had a shitty june but i think sometime soon hes going to turn that around just not tomorrow. SF used a fair amount of bullpen tonight too and the cubbies had success against all of the middle relief. ESPECIALY sadler lol...

cant even keep eyes open will sleep on it and revisit tomororw. gl fellas

I like it as well. I mean, we are rolling right now and winning games like the 2006 club but I hink its a perfect situation for the Twins tomorrow. The Tigers have had to battle lately big-time. It's about time for that "deflating" game and I think Tuesday is the time for that.

I'm going to parlay the Rays and Yankees RL. Garza has been pitching well and BC laid some good info with Wakefield. Tampa Bay has a reason to play hard. Joba will pitch well and after the Yankees only scored 1 run I expect them to take it out on Millwood.

Dont really see why all the early money is on the over in the Rocks/Padres tomorrow?

me either. scott is nice for unders too ... he sports a nice home bias as well which tends to help his under cause.

padres are going to be tired ..... they had 15 more hits than their average game last night:36_11_6:

gl if you play it ...

Looking at :

Over 8.5 Reds
Expect Marlins to wins series so either Game 2 or 3 but tend to prefer Was vs LHSP so might lean Nats Game2
Houston : LAD struggling vs LHP lately facing Wandy at home no less
Over 9 Stl : Might roll with it again but as of now based on the fact I liked it for Game 1 and it pushed despite being 7-1 after 5 .
COL - Good bounce back spot with there ace but SD actually hits away from Petco lately .
Zona - They couldnt beat Davis so think Unit is a tougher task .
SFG - Cubbs struggles vs RHSP away especially
Yanks ML - Joba= FILTHY
KC ? Balt mindset after 2 chokes ? Prefer to fade then bounce back ...
TB Under - Wake indoors at TB has been good and Garza so much better at home.
WSox - Swisher is alive and well vs LHP at least for a day. Danks quality 6 innings everytime out ...the rest is the concern...Tribe so-so vs LHP but struggling lately see Barry Zito.
Minny-under ? Just think robertson has had success vs Minny or at Minny w.o checking . Twins with Baker in a good spot to bounce back in a low scoring game....
Mariners 1st 5 inn ML- fade jays vs LHSP even if Smith goes just 4 innings ...Litsch hittable and could give up a couple while picthing well ...

GL

i think the mian question revolving around the yanks game is whether or not they decide to fuckin show up. If their pen/joba/offense takes the day off, they are in for a long shellacking. So hard to tell what gets this team up. Even the home losses dont seem to do it anymore..

I actually played Texas +1.5 RL and even some ML cause I was convinced the Yanks would lose today . Which is hard for me to admit . The play of the year was probably the mets yesterday vs them. They Yanks didn play that game to win it was obvious bu there lineup. Texas didnt do much off Joba and expect Millwood to get hit here and Ponson to exact revenge on WED. I am pretty confident in NYY at this point. Talk more tmrw about it. GL bro

Might have a big wager on this game SN, looking forward to more info from you.

leans:

Natti
Cards
Rays
Tejas
Angels

thoughts

yesterday went 1-1 rays and mets wanted to play Tejas an cubs but have no balls been missing some nice winners

Thinking a parlay of MIN/COL/NYY might be in order. The first 2 not SU because it'd be betting against either their form or the form of their opp., and NYY not SU because of prohibitive price. If any one lost I'd come away happy knowing so much more would've been lost if a SU bet on the loser had been decided upon. Any 2 lost I'd be ecstatic for same reason - major bullets dodged. But all 3 in their own way seem to demand being utilised somehow.

MIN - As noted above, Tigs have been scraping by & injuries + particular opp. + venue + starters all suggest scrap-by won't cut it Tues.

COL - if Cook at home vs the Poohdres can't stop the rot, they may not win again this season. Their bats have come around to support him, no worries on those fronts, and SD off various offensive highs.

NYY - could've had Joba go yesterday, saved him seemingly to set his appearance up on ESPN Sun. nite baseball vs Wakefield/Boston. Lost 2 in a row for only the 2nd time in nearly a month, got crap going Weds.

Hey guys, nice read so far, keep it coming ;)

My thoughts so far:

1. Definitely - TAMPA (again). Not easy looking at all, I'm aware of the fact that BoSox might have their best shot tonight, but at the same time - I know what this series means to Tampa. I'm pretty much expecting a similar type of a game like last night, so ML looks like the only option for me here.

2. HOUSTON (again). Everything what I wrote last night about the first game stands for this one, too. I like them even more tonight with excellent Rodriguez pitching at his favorite place.

3. PHILADELPHIA. I was thinking about this line for a while. A tough game to cap and definitely doesn't look like someone's going to get blown out. But somehow, i feel that Kendrick is definitely not getting enough respect, with all Phillies offensive struggles included (especially vs RHP). Plus a possible cure to their struggles, if nothing else but just for one day might be this kid, Charlie Morton who's had two solid starts and one bad start so far. We'll see..

So far those 3 might have the best shot of becoming my final plays for today, while my other leans include CLE, WAS, SF (strong lean) and STL (strong lean). At first, I liked NYY as a possible lean, but decided to wait one more day and see what happens tonight with them. Rangers pen has been awesome lately and you never know for sure with their very potent offense and the same could be said for Milwood, although I'm aware that most of the Yankees hitters have great numbers against him.

Will post my final plays later today...

 Should I double dip? Hmm...

Some stuff from blankets:

In 21 games at the Trop, take a look at what Wake has done....
WL 9-1
ERA 2.52
WHIP 1.13
BAA .202

Crawford 25-79 .316
Floyd 1-8 .125
Gomes 7-28 .250
Gross 2-11 .182
Hinske 7-33 .212
Iwamura 8-19 .421
Longoria 1-2 .500
Navarro 4-11 .364
Pena 4-26 .154
Upton 5-19 .263

Blue, no offense, but the humidity is pretty well in check inside that dome. They have machines not just for the temperature in there, but also for the humidity. It's actually very pleasant in there.

I wasn't trying to be a smartass either. :shake:

GL tonight

Just a couple of items on the Twins:

Twins have the best record in baseball against right-handed starters (37 - 24).

They are only 8 - 13 against lefties.

Detroit starter tonight (Robertson), a lefty, last 3 starts has an ERA of 2.45.

Detroit will be missing a couple of starters, but Minny will also be missing one of their better run producers (Cuddyer).

and obviously Tampa...but I may play the Sox....I played them last night because I want Rays to win so if I lose I feel like I just paid to have rays win....if Sox win I'm bummed for the rays but at least I grabbed some dough

good point bear about the twins and tigers matchup . makes me like the under even more ..

Texas @ NYY thoughts :

Just looking at the 3 game pitching matchups I felt Game 1 was the best chance Texas had to win . Mussina had a good matchup in that he has exceled vs LHB's so far this year so being the Ranger lineup especially from the 3 spot down was very LH didnt expect a lot of production. What was good for Texas was the fact NYY really hadnt seem and we have seen how well those type guys have done vs NYY in recent weeks (long time trend but think Tuck really shed some light on it as to how deep it was ) . They followed with Millwood in Game 2 who struggles on the road and allows alot of base hits vs Joba , then youngster Mendoza vs recently cut Ranger Sidny Ponson . A definite payback scenario .

So today we have Joba off his highest pitch count 114 getting an extra days rest ( somewhat curious to see how he bounces back but really he hasnt anissues at all so far). Good move by NYY on both fronts to give his arm the extra rest and also he seems to be best when he pitches every 6th day . Texas has never seen Joba and that is a huge plus for a guy whose stuff is probably the filthest in baseball right now . Still though he is making the transition from stuff to high quality SP. The Yankee pen doesnt concern me when used properly they have exceled . Joba vs RHBs in his career is .181 BAA and his BAA at Yankee Stadium is .167. So he is going to make life tough on Linsler , Young and Byrd. Of the three Kinsler clearly has been the best awao far 10hrs 33 rbi and 276avg. Young only 254 avg 3hrs 14 rbi and Byrd .190 ohr 2 rbi 21Ks in 79 abs . Bradley career @ Yankee Stadium 6 for 52 .115 so he doesnt like the Bronx of as yet , Lairds absence is rally felt when you see his gaudy .333 avg and 3hrs and 15 rbi in 94abs compared to Salty's .200 in 70 abs with 1 htr and 8 rbi. Vazquez is at .310 while Murphy and Hamilton have very soid run production and 265 to 270 avgs . Interesting to see if perhaps Boggs plays here for Byrd maybe even Catalannato .

Millwood has lost 6 of 7 career starts vs NYY but has not faced them since 2006 and really hsi work was very solid for the most part. Since 06 he has really struggled on the road 2-10 last year and has allow 90 baserunners in 48 innings this year . He has been decent vs LHB but RH's are hitting 353 , BAA is 348 away and .320 at night. So not a great situational spot for him. Also Texas is 7-21 his L28 road starts .

So really we have a very hittable pitcher vs a very tough to hit pitcher . Joba excels at home and Millwood struggles most on the road.

Now Texas is 26-10 vs RHP L36 games but they have been so terrible vs LHP on that span. Sort of like winning the winnable games and losing the others . Joba isnt the typical RHP. There pen rememeber how shitty it was for that week or so ? Last 9 games 31 innings ( aton of work) just 4 runs amd 1.16 ERA.However looks like they lost Guardado for at least a few days yesterday. Also moving Mendoza back in the rotation takes away a guy who had 7 great scoreless innings in relief since returning in 3 appearances. Still the pen has been rally good of late and has 4 or so dependable guys available. Best way to negate a HOT pen is jump on the SP and shutdown the other team making the key relievers useless.

So want to see NYYs lineup but exepect to Damon to play as they just wanted to get Gardner a game immediately .

Then tmrw while Mendoza is healthy now throwing well and having that unfamiliar factor going for him my big knock is his work vs LHB . This year above 400 and career BAA of .353 while RHB are around .185 career. You dont want guys who struggl vs LHB facing the Yankees no less at Yankee Stadium.

So like NYY ML today and tmrw . Its a bit steep but Joba vs Millwood is a much better spt to lay -210/-220 then yesterday to lay -180 plus with Mussina vs Feldman IMO. Alot of Yanks have had good indivual success vs Millwood and the fact ARod is in a mini HR groove certainly nice to see RHB at 358 vs him.

GL:cheers:
