The man who was once 40 has been relieved of his duties...

A year ago this week Okla State beat Tulsa by 35 points to go 3-0, had a streak of 18 consecutive bowl games, and was ranked #13 in the country. Then came the total collapse. They lost every game the rest of the season and got humiliated by Colorado in the last game and by Oregon this year. Tulsa, which went 3-9 last year and changed coaches, outplayed them and was clearly the better coached team Saturday

I can't think of any respectable program that suffered such an total collapse
 
ESPN believe it or not had a pretty good article on him last week about the demise. Some of the facts in there are pretty wild when all thrown together. The portal/NIL, etc.
He replaces Les Miles and wins the B12 once and is the team no one wants to play.

His "I'm a man" rant is one of the most overrated, PHONY, and downright silliest things ever......

I followed them closely during that time, and kept up with the QB talk as well - talking with big boosters all the time. As a bettor, I wanted to know when QB Bobby Reid was playing.....

The young, sophomoric female reporter (Jenni Carlson) was only repeating what the coaching staff thought at the time, which was that Reid wasn't a tough guy, was sitting out nursing minor injuries, putting himself before the team, and had 'attitude' problems. She took it a bit far sure - but everybody knew the story anyway - and why they played Zac Robinson more, even when BR was healthy. BTW - BR was a stud - the "next Vince Young". Gundy told him this was HIS team.

Rather than explain the situation calmly, with class - handle the issue with the beat reporter behind closed doors - he instead dresses her down (she's 29) before an all-male (pretty much) crowd - PRETENDING he's got BR's back. But just ask Bobby Reid - he'll tell you it was phony - Gundy never had his back. Most everybody is impressed with this - I never was, a total bitch move IMO.....

A great college coach tho, and for a long stretch, one of the top coaches to bet on for sure.

Totally agree. Question is Pickens still alive and supporting the program? If he is id think they have plenty of nil money like Oregon. But doesn't seem to be the case

Really interesting point. Pickens has been gone 6 years but if he was around today his (2nd) middle name would be NIL. There would be few (perhaps none) more at the forefront of the movement.

Carlson still a well-respected columnist at the OKC paper and her piece on the OSU AD / Gundy's replacement is leading the sports section tomorrow.

I thought I remembered reading of his passing. I guess his heirs aren't big osu fans. Yeah he would've matched the big boys
 
Of course it's phony...it's a press conference. What else would you expect, and why do we care that it's phony? He appeared to stick up for his guy and made a great show of it. A+ for press conference entertainment value, too.
