The Los Angeles Rams Offseason Thread

The Browns don't need to take a QB for the sake of taking a QB. If Ramsey is the best man for them then take him. They will be in the same situation next season so look at the situation then. I doubt one of these QB's will move the Browns from shit to average

The Browns' need for their next QB has hung over the franchise for a generation. Their situation is unique.

The Browns' need for their next QB has hung over the franchise for a generation. Their situation is unique.

So there are 2 options. The first is a Pac-12 QB that failed to dominate in a weak conference this year. If you are going to pay top price you want the guy to be absolute dominate. Aaron Rodgers dominated at Cal, Eli Manning dominated at Ole Miss. You pay top dollar for guys that were successful in spite of what is around them, not guys that went 7-5

The second option is an FCS QB. People are starting to point to Flacco and Romo as proof they can succeed. Flacco was originally at Pitt, and was drafted 18, while Romo was undrafted

The Wentz/Goff love-in is the epitome of the NFL groupthink.

The talk is that the Browns are actively trying to trade out of the 2 spot. Not sure they're sold on taking a QB, nor should they be in this draft. Taking a QB for the sake of taking a QB isn't really the way to do things. But, as we've seen and as Alan pointed out, it's just the NFL groupthink at the time...and most of them look like complete morons.

All this talk lately of how weak the NFL QB corps is, as a whole, shouldn't be that surprising to anyone. They've been drafting guys and throwing them right to the fire in their first year...many of them look horrible, which is to be expected...but they lose their confidence and it's all downhill from there. It's crazy to see how it's evolved in the sense of feeling the need to have to draft a guy and start him immediately. Yet teams keep doing it again, and again...and wonder why they don't have a QB, or wonder why QB play in the NFL is pretty much horrible outside of maybe 10 guys.

So the NFL comes back to LA after a 2 decade hiatus...and the Rams play one of their home games in London. Just fucking brilliant NFL, just brilliant. They make money in spite of themselves not because of anything they actually do.

And the Colts end up playing the week following their trip to London. Since when don't you get a bye the week after you travel to London for a game? And it's a 1pm start too.

Rams are playing at the Coliseum this year anyway and USC scheduling takes precedent there, but I'm pretty sure this was decided well before the move

Yeah, looks like the London teams were decided before the move. Not sure what USC scheduling has to do with anything though, they play on Saturdays.

They don't like flipping the field next day when they can avoid it, happened here with Cards and ASU for years, you think I didn't know they play on Saturdays lol?

That said USC don't play that weekend, but come on man

Still have to repaint the field to meet NFL specs, end zones, cover advertisers in the stadium, etc

Get this...Rams fans interested in buying season tickets get 7 games. As mentioned, 1 home game is in London. They receive only 1 home game in September. I mention this because usually by October they're out of contention. So by home game #2, they're more than likely 1-3 or 0-4. They play the last 2 games on Christmas Eve and New Years Day... Uhhh yea, No. Fisher will get run out of the state when this team continues to do what it's been doing. Fisher thinks he's Mr. Clever. He has an ulterior motive here. To save his job while losing, a rookie QB buys him time. He says, Mr Kroenke, we will be primed to win with a couple years of developing our Franchise QB. Running game and defense are in place. Just in time for our new stadium. I call BS. This will go down as the worst trade in the history of the NFL. I'll be documenting who Tennessee has taken with these picks and also who else was taken after these picks that the Rams could have taken. Yesterday was a brutal day to watch unfold

Forgot to mention that Fisher has already stayed they will be the most traveled team in 2016. Another subtle excuse

Peter Kings article says Colts asked for that

said lots of East Coast teams did, they get back early monday morning because of the early start so they dont need the bye

Well with how often it happens in other stadiums, most notably Pittsburgh, you'd figure it's not that big of a deal.

Going take time to see if this was a bad trade or not, 2-3 seasons really

Peter King did make a good point, who do the Rams have on their team with all those picks they got from the Redskins, any stars? Maybe Ogletree.

People go absolutely nuts for draft picks in every sport, I never really get it. A lot of it is a pure crapshoot.

I think that's different, Pitt plays at Heinz which is an NFL stadium and not vice versa, don't know what their set up is there with the Steelers. I just know making a college stadium NFL ready overnight is not ideal, obviously the Raiders had to do it back in the day with USC as well

Definitely a crap shoot. One thing I've been hearing about that they've been tracking and evaluating is the impact of the volume of draft picks, and it seems that the more draft picks a team has, the more successful their drafts are. Seems like an obvious point but maybe just reinforces that the number of picks a team has, and not where they pick is more important.

Draft years with multille early picks never seem to help Cleveland. See Justin Gilbert, Johnny Screwball, Brandon Weeden, 2nd-round bonus baby Brian Robiskie (remember that stroke of Mangenius?) ....

I have to continue voice my opinion as a diehard fan since 1974 and live in California. The picks we've given away when we don't exactly have John Elway waiting for us at the top is borderline negligent. Both of these QBs have question marks. No front office with any kind of brain gives up the savings account for an unknown commodity. This is a move Fisher and Snead have made through desperation. It goes without saying how many pieces we still need to replace. We have ZERO threats at Wideout to help Tavon. We don't know the ramifications of Tre Mason's off field issues. We need a replacement for Cook. We lost 4 starters on defense. JL55, CL91, JJ21 and RM23. We had all the picks we needed to fill in. Now we've given that all away for which QB? Neither of them standout from the other. did I mentioned we lost our 1st round and a 3rd round pick next year? What are they doing when we go 4-12 with and could have had a top 5 pick? Because that's exactly what's going to happen with this regime. This is a marketing ploy coming from Kroenke to captive the NFL fan base. When Snead said they wanted it done immediately and won't announce who it is, it's because all focus and momentum the next 2 weeks goes to them. No way do they make this move without a bonafide QB at the top. Actually, I'm convinced this wasn't a move called by Snead or Fisher. Kroenke called for this and now Fisher and Snead have to pick the right guy or they're gone. This senseless move is now making sense.

Rob Boras is the OC. Golf is built like a boy. Skinny legs and worked out of the gun. Wentz is a stud athlete who played a pro style offense. He's more a cross between Luck and Big Ben.

I have no problem with wentz. Goff never impressed me and I watched him a lot from my degenerate late night bets. He missed a lot of guys running wide open.
Fisher as HC won't help either guy though

Goff is built like a boy is making me laugh. He has the hands of a small child.

I think it is an awful deal but it's impossible to be the worst trade in NFL history. The Jimmy Johnson fleecing of the Vikings for Hershel Walker will stand the test of time as worst trade ever.

4-12 at best. If their team total for wins is 7 or higher, load up the wagon
That should give the Titans the #1 pick again next year and they will grab Fournette to go with Super Mario in the backfield. I DO NOT LIKE this as a Colts fan.
the AFC SOUTH is gonna be the Titans and Jags in the next 2-5 years

Something I started to realize when I was in San Diego watching the Rams 2 seasons ago. The fan base is very similar to Raider Nation. There's a Gang vibe to it. Not sure why so much of this exists in the NFL but add the Los Angeles Ram fans into this.

Spend 15 minutes watching Wentz and tell me if Wentz doesn't fit the exact mold Fisher likes. Wentz is built and plays a lot like McNair, Luck and Rothlisberger. If a play breaks down he can throw on the run and also pick up 1st downs with his running ability. He plays under center. He knows how to play action and he can make every single throw needed with accuracy. He's built for punishment and has the moxy to lead a team. Very high chalkboard IQ. Has won 2 National Championships. Although it's D1AA, he rose to the occasion like a champion especially the championship vs Jacksonville State. Some foresight to what might be if they ever reach the playoffs.

Take another 15 minutes watching Goff and tell me if Goff doesn't look exactly like Bradford. Goff is built and plays a lot like Bradford did coming out of OU. He plays out of the gun. He's got chicken legs. Needs to add weight to endure the punishment in the NFL. He has good presence in the pocket but rarely scrambles out to run when all breaks down. Been on losing teams until his senior year. They started 5-0 vs cupcakes and then lost about 4 in a row vs better defenses. Let's not jump up and down that he beat Air Force in his Bowl game. Outside of IQ, is he much better than Bryce Petty?
Guys like Phil Simms and Steve Buerline have Paxton Lynch rated higher. I don't especially if you watch Lynchs tape vs Auburn in his Bowl game. Maybe Lynchs worst game as a collegiate.

I would be absolutely SHOCKED if the Rams pick isn't Carson Wentz.

Goff started 5-0 vs cupcakes lol....Wentz has only played cupcakes his entire career. Goff his last 2 seasons had 31 TDs and 9 INTs ON THE ROAD, and that's not including his bowl game.

Wentz #'s aren't even better than his predecessor at North Dakota St.

I think it's a joke that either of these guys is going in the top 10 but such is the importance of the QB position in the modern NFL.

Well, you have to take the type of offense into account. Cal threw the ball all over the place while NDSU is a power running team.

I mean, did you have the same thought about Calvin Johnson playing in the Wing T in GTech?

Yeah Goff put it up 50 times a game lol

Yawn, Roethlisburger, Flacco, Romo, etc all played cupcakes their entire careers, don't know wtf that even means

I'm not comparing Goff's #'s to Wentz's as they're obviously not comparable.

I will note though that by age Goff had already completed his entire Cal career before Wentz even made his first start.

Arizona, I take whatever you say with a grain of salt. You rarely add anything of interest and are always a contrarian. Carry on

Color you shocked I guess.

It seemed like everyone knew they were taking Goff starting at least a week ago. Was the local talk they were still up in the air?

I'm shocked because I still think Wentz fits Fisher. When you look at the spot Fisher is in regarding this pick, he probably took the safe route because he can point the finger at the QB again and not himself. He's done that with Bradford by trading him and now Foles. He couldn't have bailed on Foles much quicker.
When they can't score in preseason, he looks into the media eyes with that clever look and says, We're Vanilla and not revealing. Fisher has no process for offense. If he had any clue, he'd be winning. He has his D. He has his running game.

Lastly, he embellishes April draft time. He's always at the top of the draft which allows him to take control of the headlines. He's an absolute fool if you ask me. He thinks he's coming across as some sort of guru. Anyone with any common sense can look at his tactics and see a fool.

I should clarify that I do think Fisher and Snead are better than average in their drafts. Its August thru December when I refer to Fisher being a fool. Would love to have a legit coach come in here to develop Goff while Gurley is going through his prime and the defense still has Donald, Quinn and company.

Fisher already getting outcoached in all 3 facets and we're only 9 minutes into this and its 14-0. I hope it doesn't take another 4 years to see how incompetent Fisher is.

Interesting note that I'll look into is Goff was supposed to play thru the 3rd qrtr. He only played part of the 2nd qrtr. They were not able to run a no huddle 2 minute offense with Goff which indicates to me he's not ready. Hopefully he's not injured with the hits he took. Fisher should be embarrassed for how bad he is. 1st home game and he's down 14-0 before you can blink an eye. His 1st string defense got torched by a rookie. If you can get Rams under 7 take it. I'm thinking it's 5-11 or 6-10 at best

Goff had a bruised left shoulder off the hit and Int. Doesn't sound serious. QB Sean Mannion who was a 3rd round pick last year and probably wasn't sexy enough to promote was very good. I can't help but think if it wasn't for this move to LA that Mannion would have been the successor while keeping all the draft picks to load up. Anyway, WR Nelson Spruce will make this team. He's our Eddleman/Welker type. Great hands and knows how to get open and run after the catch.

A team with a great DL and a star RB should be .500, but I have a feeling this team is a trainwreck and they absolutely have to fire Fisher. Goff seems more lost than your typical rookie QB.

Look at how prepared Dallas had Dak Prescott and look at how Fisher couldn't get Goff into a 2 minute drill. Chris Wenke is the QB coach. He needs to go too.
