In the last seven years, the favorite's record in winning the various races (some races tend to run more to form than others):

Classic - 1 for 7 (Zenyatta)
Mile - 4 for 7 (Goldikova 3, Wise Dan)
Sprint - 1 for 7 (Midnight Lute)
Turf - 1 for 7 (Conduit)
Juvenile - 3 for 7
Turf Sprint - 2 for 5
F&M Sprint - 1 for 6 (Groupie Doll)
F&M Turf - 1 for 7 (Ouija Board)
Juvy Fillies - 5 for 7

Distaff - 3 for 7
Juvy Turf - 1 for 6
Dirt Mile - 0 for 6
Juv Fillies Turf - 0 for 6
Marathon - 1 for 5

Horses coming off a layoff of two months or more are only 10 for 147 since 1997, although two of the wins happened last year (Mizdirection and Calidoscopio).

Some interesting impact value angles:

- Horses racing on turf, who's last race was not on turf have a negative impact UNLESS it had run the last TWO races on AW or dirt.

- Horses racing on dirt, who's last race was on turf have a negative impact.

- Horse attempt to win a race of a mile or greater off a prep of 6 1/2 furlongs or less have a negative impact.

Some stats/tips:

Marathon
- All five winners have competed at a distance of over 1 1/4 miles at least twice in their last five starts.
- Four of the five winners went off at odds of less than 5-1 in the last prep.
- Horses that last ran in a Grade 1 event are 0 for 12.

Juvy Fillies Turf
- Four of the five winners had a Brisnet Turf Pedigree rating of 110 or more.

Dirt Mile
- Five of the last six winners lost their final prep.
- The last five winners have all won at odds of 5-1 or greater

Juvenile Turf
- Foreign shippers have won four of the six races
- Every winner has had a Brisnet Turf Pedigree of 110 or greater. Colts and geldings with a rating of less than 110 are 0 for 34 and only two have finished second.
- In pace ratings, Early horses and Early Presser horses are 0 for 23

Distaff
- 10 of the last 14 dirt editions have been won by an Early horse
- Horses with a pace profile of Presser, Sustained or Unknown are 3 for 67

Saturday stats/tips

- At every Santa Anita Breeders' Cup the Turf Sprint winner has been a multiple past winner on the 6 1/2 furlong downhill course. (2013 qualifiers: Chips All In, Mizdirection and Unbridled's Note).

Juvenile
- 9 of the last 16 Juvenile winners were favored in their last start

- Only one front-running style horse in the last 16 years (out of 38 possibles) has won. (hurts Silver Max, Obviously)

Classic
- Only two deep closers (Sustained style) have won the Classic.
- 21 of the last 22 winners finished in the money (top 3) in their last prep.

- 21 of 22 Classic winners went off at 3-1 or less in their final prep. The lone exception was Drosselmeyer in 2011. Declaration of War, Kettle Corn, Ron the Greek, and technically Paynter who was 3.4 to 1

Based on the stats the only horses left without an X next to their name are:

Fort Larned (the defending champ)
Graydar

and maybe Paynter.

Marathon thoughts

Really like Indian Jones as a pace play here. Ever Rider is well spotted with Gary Stevens at the helm, but he's got a front runner style that's likely to clash with Commander, Blueskiesnrainbows and Suns Out Guns Out. Not fan of the turf to dirt angle for Old Time Hockey and London Bridge. Cease has not raced 10 furlongs or more in his last five, so his bottom is questionable. Pool Play runs all the races but at 8 hasn't been viable in a couple of years now. Worldly is interesting if he can keep for getting sucked into a hot pace. Commander is dangerous if he's allowed to go to the front uncontested. He'll take them a long way.

Juvenile Turf

Can Bobby's Kitten outduel the Euro's is the big question here. Class ratings say that Giovanni Boldini, Outstrip and Wilshire Boulevard must be respected. Probably need to spread with those four to get through in multis. Watch out for Poker Player running late at a nice price to land in the money.

Juvenile Fillies Turf

My Conquestadory was specifically targeted for this race over the dirt Juvenile Fillies and is the buzz horse going in, but Casse usually brings well considered horses to BC and the usually fall short of the mark. Again the Euros look like they have a big edge in class. Al Thakhira, Chriselliam and Vorda all look like contenders here. Ready to Act would be a popular winner after her left turn in the stretch at the Natalma dumped Rajiv Maragh and cost her the win. Maybe Rosario can plot a straighter course for her.

Dirt Mile

Wicked tough race with host of popular colts going the 8 panels. Taptowne figures to go to the front and if the Santa Anita track is anything like last year it could be tough to reel him in. There's a whole host of horses that figure to make him work every step of the way. Verrazano has a ton of class and seems to relish the 8-8.5 furlong range. If he runs his Haskell race he'll win by open lengths. Pants On Fire is in great form with a recent pair of graded stakes wins. Alpha throws in a huge one every once in awhile if you can trust him outside NY, which is asking alot. Golden Ticket has a credible Santa Anita effort in a Grade 1 on his resume and might be moving forward in the lane. If the track is playing fair then Hymn Book might be able to mow all this speed down running late. For a price horse consider Broadway Empire who's lightly raced but has won 4 of 6 including back to back Grade 3 at longer distances. I'll be against Goldencents and Central Intelligence on the stretchouts.

Distaff Thoughts

Nothing real clever here, it looks like Royal Delta, Princell of Syllmar and local horse Beholder looking like any of the three could win it. Close Hatches is good but in NY wasn't good enough. Same story for Authenticity. Take your pick on your favorite horse and hope its enough.

I can't understate how important it will be to see from the early races how the dirt track is playing in terms of speed. Last year over the course of the two days there were 13 races contested on the dirt, 8 of them (62%) had wire to wire winners, a ninth had the winner running second by a head at the 2nd call, and a tenth had the winner running fourth at the 2nd call but only a length off the pace. Only the quirky Marathon on Friday and two seven furlong Saturday sprints (the first featuring Private Zone running 22 flat/43 and 4 before slipping to second place, the second with the best sprinter in the country last year, Groupie Doll, mowing them down from fourth, 3 lengths back) failed to have a winner from either the lead or right on the pace.

Even today's races could provide clues. Last year there were five dirt races on the Thursday before the BC. There were two wire jobs and 2 winners that were in second back a length at the 2nd call.

This will be very important on Saturday in the Classic, Sprint, Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies, which all look like they have a host of front-runner types signed on.

Recently the two turn races have played very kindly to need the lead types, as six of the last 10 have been won wire to wire, with another three being won by the horse that was tracking second. That's 9 out of 10 for pace setting types. If that form holds then the ones I'll be looking to use in the two turn races are:

Mile - Taptowne, Verrazano, Broadway Empire
Distaff - Royal Delta, Beholder
Juvenile Fillies - Scandalous Act, She's a Tiger, Artemis Agrotera
Juvenile - Havana, Diamond Bachelor
Classic - Game on Dude, Fort Larned, Mucho Macho Man

Sprints have been more fair on the Santa Anita main so far this meet, so I think you have to look at the possibility that both races will be more kind to mid-pack and even possibly one run closer types.

In the F&M Sprint, its hard to ignore Groupie Doll even if she isn't quite at last year's superhorse level. Two closers that figure to be in the mix late are Dance to Bristol and Dance Card. Longshot possible is Summer Applause, turning back from longer distances but capable of staying on late.

In the Sprint even if it plays fair its still a spread race with the likes Fast Bullet returning off the layoff, Secret Circle, Gentlemen's Bet, Bahamian Squall and Justin Phillip all looking attractive. If speed is king then Private Zone is a must use.

Friday's Cup Races:

Marathon: I've done very good in this race in past years however not in love with the field in this years Marathon and don't have much confidence...field lacks class of past years and no real distance horses either...leaning towards: Indian Jones, Pool Play and Cease

Juv Turf: Bobby's Kitten is the 2yo turfer ive been most impressed w/ this year, euros Giovanni Boldini, Outstrip, Wilshire Boulevard all looks as they will be tough in here...Shamshon and/or Poker Player could contend for a piece.

Dirt Mile: as of now, Brujo De Olleros looks to be my top pick in here, ran against bias in last (R+)...followed by Hymn Book and possibly Fed Biz.

Juv Filly Turf: Al Thakhira ran huge in last...Chriselliam won Group 1 in last and beaten a nk vs boys two back, good recent work at SA according to Welsch from Drf...Ready to Act will be on my tickets...Colonel Joan could be a bomb that gets a piece...right now im sort of against Vorda - questioning the distance with her, she's yet to go past 6F, in her last race connections decided to stay @ 6F instead of running in Group 1 the next day going 1M...thinking connections don't think she wants the distance either.

Distaff: Princess of Sylmar should get a nice setup with early speeds, just hope bias doesn't work against her if one does exist this weekend...also gonna give Authenticity a chance in here.

Nice work on this thread, Gandy...BOL on the Cup races, i'll be around for the races both days

The Breeders' Cup announced the official race order, wagering menu and post times for the 30th Breeders' Cup World Championships, to be held on Friday, November 1 and Saturday, November 2 at Santa Anita Park. This year's wagering menu on the 14 Breeders' Cup races features an abundance of wagering opportunities including two Breeders' Cup Ultra Pick Sixes, 10-cent Superfectas, 50-cent Trifectas, Pick 3's and Pick 4's, a Breeders' Cup Distaff/Classic daily double and two Super High 5 wagers.
There will be a total of 11 races (five Breeders' Cup races) on the Championship Friday program and 12 races on Championship Saturday (nine Breeders' Cup races). Championship Friday begins at 10:40 a.m. (PT) with five undercard races. Champion Saturday first post is 10:15 a.m., and also begins with three undercards races.
Breeders' Cup has announced that there will be $10,000,000 in guaranteed gross pools over the two days. Friday's guarantees include: $500,000 Pick 5 on races 1-5; a $1,000,000 Pick 6 on races 5-10; and a $1.5 million late Pick 4 on races 7-10. On Saturday, the guarantees include: a $500,000 Pick 5 guarantee on races 1-5; a $1 million early Pick 4 on races 4-7; a $2.5 million Ultra Pick 6 on races 7-12; and a $3 million late Pick 4 on races 9-12.
The first Championships race on Breeders' Cup Friday is scheduled to be the $500,000 Breeders' Cup Marathon (1:45 p.m.), followed by the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (2:25 p.m.); $1 million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (3:05 p.m.); $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (3:50 p.m.); and the $2 million Breeders' Cup Distaff (4:35 p.m.).
There will be an Ultra Pick Six on the five Friday Breeders' Cup races and the Twilight Derby, which will be run as the fifth race. The $150,000 President of the United Arab Emirates Cup race for Arabian horses will follow the Distaff as race 11.
On Championship Saturday, first post time is 10:15 a.m., starting with the Juvenile Turf Sprint Stakes, the Damascus Stakes and the Ken Maddy Stakes. The order of Breeders' Cup races is as follows: $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (12:05 p.m.); $2 million Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (12:43 p.m.); $1 million Filly & Mare Sprint (1:21 p.m.); $1 million Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (2:05 p.m.); $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile (2:45 p.m.); $3 million Breeders' Cup Turf (3:25 p.m.); $1.5 million Breeders' Cup Sprint (4:05); $2 million Breeders' Cup Mile (4:42 p.m.); and the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic (5:35 p.m.).
There will be an Ultra Pick Six with a guaranteed gross pool of $2.5 million on the Saturday program beginning with the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (race 7) and concluding with the Breeders' Cup Classic (race 12).
"The Breeders' Cup continues to offer the biggest fields of Grade 1 horses, combined with a wagering menu that that offers betting value from top to bottom and across all pools," said Ken Kirchner, President of FalKirk International and the manager of the Breeders' Cup wagering and simulcasting operations for the last 17 years. "With 50-cent trifectas, Pick 3s, Pick 4s and Pick 5s, along with 10-cent superfectas, and a Pick 6 that has paid millions of dollars in the past, players understand that they are only one bet away from cashing a ticket that could make their wagering year!"
Each Breeders' Cup World Championships race will feature a maximum of 14 horses and wagering interests with the exception of the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, which is limited to 12 starters. In addition to the standard Win, Place and Show betting, there will be Exacta and Trifecta wagering on every race and rolling Pick 3 wagers beginning with the first race and continuing through all races on both Championship Friday and Championship Saturday. Among the featured wagers this year are:

- Breeders' Cup Pick 5's with a 50-cent minimum bet value. The wager will be offered on the first five races each day and will give players a chance to cash a large bet for a small investment. The wager may carryover from Friday to Saturday but is a mandatory payout on Saturday. In 2012, Friday's Pick 5 paid $37,705 for a 50-cent wager.

- Friday's Ultra Pick 6 will have a guaranteed gross pool of $1,000,000 and Saturday's Ultra Pick 6 will feature a $2 million guaranteed gross pool. If no one hits the Friday Ultra Pick 6, the pool will carry over into Saturday's Ultra Pick 6. The wager may also carryover from Saturday's program into Sunday. In such case, the Pick 6 would be a mandatory payout on Santa Anita's closing day program on Sunday, November 3. Last year, Friday's Pick 6 paid $773,865 for a $2 wager. Saturday's Pick 6 paid $419,245.Breeders' Cup continues to offer some of racing's highest payouts.

- Trifecta and Sueprfectas continue to pay huge dividends. Last year saw $1 trifectas pay $1,791, $1,950 and $2,721. Superfecta payouts were $54,432, $15,261 and $12,476 for a $1 bet.A Daily Double wager linking the Breeders' Cup Distaff on Friday to the Breeders' Cup Classic on Saturday will again be offered. Last year's "Classic Double" of Distaff winner Royal Delta and Classic winner Fort Larned paid $31.

- The Pick 4, with a 50-cent minimum, continues to be a fan favorite bet at the Breeders' Cup. Friday's late Pick 4 (races 7-10) will have a guaranteed pool of $1,500,000. On Saturday, there will be two guaranteed Pick 4s. The early all Championships Pick 4 (races 4-7) will have a $1,000,000 guaranteed gross pool and the late all Championships Pick 4 (races 9-12) will have a $3,000,000 million gross pool. The 2012 late Saturday Pick 4 paid $5,647 for a 50-cent wager.

- There will be a Super High Five wager on both the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and the Breeders' Cup Classic.Bettors are required to select the first five finishing places on one ticket. If no one hits the Super High Five on Friday the pool will carry over to Saturday's Super High Five on the Classic. The wager is a mandatory payout after the Classic. Last year, Saturday's Classic Super Hi 5 paid $14,024 for a $1 bet. The bet minimum for this wager has been reduced to 50 cents.

Thanks CPA-hole and Play2win. Look forward to your thoughts.

Three more dirt routes today, all 3 winners led at the 2nd call. I'm going to play the early Pick 5 with it's two dirt routes for 2YOs assuming that the early bias continues and will adjust later for the Dirt Mile if needed.

Race 1 - a downhill sprint with some exceptional pace signed up which should provide an opportunity for Yankee Rebel, Pure Loyalty and US Citizen, all with pretty good past efforts on the course, to come running.

Race 2 - 7 furlong sprint should play pretty fair. Like Got Even with Rosario on board for the turnback, gotta respect Basmati who's had winning efforts at this distance/level, along with the two young favorites, Cat Burglar for Baffert and Wild Dude for Hollendorfer.

Race 3 - Will single Life is Joy with Rosario on board as the speed of the speed. His open lengths win his last along with just three starts under his belt signal to me that despite being 3 for 3 he's still got room to improve. I'm against Tamarando based on the track bias.

Race 4 - A bunch of stretchouts on this route race and it looks like another Hollendorfer, Swiss Lake Yodeler, is the speed of the speed and at a sweet price. Respect to Moving Desert with Stevens on board. May use Smoove It as another with front running potential and IMO is the more viable of O'Neill's two.

Race 5 - Pretty nice field here in this grade 2 turf route. I have respect for Gervinho but think there's a few in here that can run him down in the stretch. Charming Kitten, Kid Dreams and Gabriel Charles are all serious, accomplished contenders. May add Procurement and his 15-1 price out of deference to Stevens, who figures to have a big weekend.

Yikes, in the 2nd race a horse trying dirt for the first time, a typical poor breaking mid-pack runner, at 37-1, gets blinkers from his new trainer with good turf to dirt percentages and breaks alertly, runs to the lead at 21.7 for the opening fraction and pulls away down the stretch.

Think there's a speed bias on the dirt course?!?!? Could be although 2nd and 3rd both closed from well off the pace.

47-1 shot wins the 3rd, which means the Mine That Bird factor is now in effect and we won't see a horse over 40-1 the rest of the day.

Seems like a day for front runners so far...so favor these?

Nice call on Swiss Yodler.

Marsski,

Taptowne is scratched so I'd replace him with Goldencents, but yeah the others look promising, closers really have their work cut out for them.

Thanks on Swiss Yodler, triggered a nice exacta and really good trifecta.

Pick 5 carries over almost $900,000 to tomorrow!

And there's a nearly free square in Flashback in the sequence.

Incredible board for the Marathon, favorite is 9/2, longest is only 12-1. As close to random as you'll ever see.

BC Marathon using #2 Cease and #6 Indian Jones with #3 Commander, #4 Ever Rider, #9 Pool Play and #10 Worldly underneath

still have to see if a bias exists (really hope not), winner of R4 was a stretch out that made a 3w sweeping move, could've been due to fast early fractions...lets see

Castillo left Indian Jones with a little too much work to do. Another 50 yards and he probably would've made the money.

#12 is a stupid price throw out last, he didn't like the soft going. Not sure he can win but maybe get a piece
