Texas vs. Ohio State - Discussion

Interesting that teams who had a bye in the playoffs that gave them 4 weeks off (Georgia, AzSt, BoiseSt, and Oregon) were outscored in the 1st half by a total of 81-21. Second half they faired better scoring a total of 48 while giving up 38.
Too much time off? Verses a team that just played? Does that skew how good the winning team really was? Hmmm.

It’s kinda mind blowing to me you find that game relevant, by that logic you been getting crushed by them the last few weeks. Did they even try to pass against Michigan?
56% of Buckeye offensive plays were passes against Michigan.

I think Michigan had the best defense in the country by the end of the season. Shut down Indiana, Ohio St, and Alabama.
Basically did, once again.

Some NFL guys up front but the biggest part is Winks system took half the year to fully learn.

So many less mistakes than early on. We saw how bad they were fundamentally vs Texas.

That changed the last 5-6 weeks big time.

Talent was there -- finally came together.

I had no love for Wink first half of the season. Thought he was a bad hire. That was then.

Hey man,

Same here.

I did not care for the hire last spring.

I started liking it after spring and early camp.

Then, pure hate. It seemed his stuff was too complicated and confusing these guys.

But, patience is a virtue.

Give Michigan credit but Chip Kelly shut down ohio's offense.

The world will never know what he was thinking that day.

An OL that can't block. Howard threw 33 passes for just over 5 yards per attempt plus 2 INTs. It's not like passing was working either.

Throwing sideways rarely works. It was if Kelly had never heard of trying to stretch the field. I'm not providing any earth-shattering revelation. It's been repeated ad nauseam.

Michigan won. That's the bottom line.

Moreso Ryan Day.

With that being said -- the recipe to beat OSU is a great DL and to keep it close and make it a 4th quarter game.

That was Mich strength AND their gameplan.

Ryan Day is so caught up in his own head with his lack of success vs Mich. The coaching since then has been much better.

Use your strengths!

We'll see what Sark and company are capable of. That's the great unknown to me.

I think Sark tries to use the TE and hit stuff over the middle with our linebackers like Simon and Styles in coverage. Generally, Davidson Ig is good for a few flags but I don't believe that Texas wideouts are anything special. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't watched many Texas games.
If Texas wants to win, I think they need ball control sustained drives. Maybe get OSU a little antsy and trigger happy. I kind of think it doesn't matter unless OSU's offensive line regresses and Howard has no time.

Have to get this to the 2nd half and then the 4th quarter.

OSU is the best front running team this year, by far.

Muck it up.

The TE and WRs are strength of the offense. Latter group is deep and talented (but not quite OSU level). Not sure if Bond is playing or not Friday. He's big but hasn't recovered with the ankle. You don't know what you'll get with Ewers. He won the game against Arizona State. I don't see much likelihood that Horns will run the ball with any success so a shootout is probably the only path to victory.

Feels like a 37 - 27 type game. Not in the Horns favor.

Anyone think the -225 ML is short on a 6pt spread? FYI, That's what it is on Draftkings.

Excuses or not I don’t think anyone in country can cover smith and embuke while also not getting run over by those 2 backs. You could always play a 2 deep shell but half osu season why they didn’t look great cause chip was trying to get the run game going. I’m convinced osu could have ran thru everyone including muchigan but they kinda held back with the passing game knowing they could pull that out any time. Working on run game made some games closer but was prob worth it cause now I’m not sure there a way to defend them. Unless your front 4 is so disruptive they can manage the run game w penetration and still get to qb it tough to see a path to stopping all they can do. Pick your poison, get dominated on ground or get embarrassed trying to defend the WRs. Texas front is good but I’m not sure they that good. That why I lean to just playing osu opposed to props here cause I do see a world horns could slow the WRs down but then Henderson and Judkins will have big Games. Imo they the most complete offense I can recall in last 20 years.
FYI
Ohio St thru the ball 33xs the most attempts in their last 10 games vs Michigan in a 10-13 loss. They only completed 19 for 175 yards . This was a game that mattered and they failed vs a team not nearly as good as Texas

This is the problem and the reason I am on OSU. Texas' ability to run was what kept Ds' honest. Part of me says they should run, even if not initially successful, to hopefully shorten the game. I'm not an offensive coordinator, but I'd sure try like heck to run.

Texas rushed for 143 yds vs Michigan
Only 53 vs ASU
292 vs Clemson
31 vs Georgia
If Texas rushes for 100+ they can win

Offensive lineman that missed vs ASU will be back 100%. Should help running game.

Problem with this is Texas’ red zone offense stinks. Need long drives that end in 7.

I'm actually really surprised this hasn't moved closer to 3

Not like I'm looking to bet on it but a Texas home game is maybe the one thing Ohio can't combat with their fan base
