beaten by backup QBs twice in a week, and led at the half in both games
58 seconds..after the offside penalty. 2 NF snaps where he can take 2 to 4 seconds before kneeling and the the TO. Call it 50 seconds on 3rd down where they do another 2 to 4 second kneel and the clock runs down to maybe 8-10 seconds. 4th down you run around and then out of the EZ for a safety and maybe maybe there’s 4 or 5 seconds left where you have to punt the football still up 3. I’ll take my chances on that over a potential fumble any day

The safety can be used in situations like when you are up by 6 late , and kicking from your end zone why not take safety and kick from your 25?

Don’t forget...a 40 yard punt is 40 yard from the LOS...so on a safety the extra 8 yards or so get added onto the length of the punt. So a 48 yards from the 20 puts them at their own 32. If he calls for the Fair catch and even on a free kick can make a 78-yard FG against the wind, then more power to him.

Giving up a safety always makes sense when you are still up by more than 3 points.
If the other team needs to score a touchdown on their last drive then why not take the safety. Burn some time and get a nice relaxed kick.
But in times of crunch coaches choke. They choke because they dint practice these skills. They just do what every other coach does.
