This is why they say to ride the streaks i baseball i guess. Marlins couldn't help but score runs early in the year and now the offense is struggling in a big way.

CWS +145 Contrares has been anything but reliable but Doc Holliday got hit around in his last start and think this Toronto lineup has to cool off at some point b/c they are all playing way above their heads. They have 7 guys hitting over .300....and neither one of those are Rios or Wells. Guys like Aaron Hill, Jose Bautista, Adam Lind, Travis Snyder and Lyle Overbay are all due for a little regression imo. No way I could lay it and seems like an overestimation here. CWS may have broken out tonight and if Alexi can get it going it would help give em a threat at the bottom of that order.

Snider is one of the best young prospects in the game. He's a fucken beast at the plate and will eventually be a 30 HR, 100 RBI plus hitter.

Lind is no slouch himself but he isn't a power hitter like Snider. As for Hill, he's always been a really good all-around player, but was slowed down by that serious head injury he had last year. But it looks like he's back and is looking like the old Hill we're used to seeing.

Took a chalky under 5 in Anaheim first half. We are talking night to day. Game after an amatuer hour high scoring garbage game. Both pitchers good in day games and the old Anaheim under after a loss. Both have pitched well with the ump who historically at any rate has a decent walk to strikeout rate.

Inge with his 7th HR of the year and the Tigers get out to a 2-0 lead over KC in the top of the 2nd.

Not overly fond of this but Boston first half and game and rl. All told about half a unit in play. Do not see any edges for the Yanks here including pen or starter. This line up of Boston simply owns Andy.

Just for the fuck of it parlayed : Yanks ML , Hurricanes ML,Magic ML and Rockets ML....7 to 1payout is solid...

There goes that, spoke to soon.

Saying I am furious with brian wilson right now is an understatement.

yea been a great day...had a picnic by the water with my girls (wife/daughters, not hookers or anything) and come back to see the Pirates win to complete a 4-1 day!

i like the yanks 1st 5 (-.5) or 1st 5 under - i want nothing to do with the bullpens...

never mind the under, just looked at the two SP's # against the other, both guys are not pretty...kinda surprised by that - masterson has a small sample size, not to mention a-rod, nady not in the lineup - BUT

in 5 games last year vs the Yanks (9 1/3 innings) Masterson was 0-2 and had a 4.82 ERA and a .350 BAA. Plus the bullpens have been horrible...

def looking at the over now for the game, i like pettite and he has been solid this year, might still take a shot at the 1st 5 w/ the yanks

What sticks out to me is that Andy for the most part has faced Boston in pairs . He faces them at home and then seemingly within the next weekor two he faces them again. ALways tough for a pitcher to do especially contact guys like Pettitte.

So pitched well @ Fenway in 4/07 then a week later eventually they got to him. Faces them a month later at homepitches well but then10 days later again they eventually get to him. Late Aug he faces them again and is very solid but then shortly after sees them for the 6th time of the year and same deal. Now2008 he struggled the 1st time he saw them but then was realgood next time @ Fenway ....

Boston hasnt faced many LHs yet and hasnt seen him either .

Looking at Masterson handful of starts the worst outing he has had is 4 runs in 6 innings .....thats not bad as your worst ....

Yanks lost 22-4 the next game went UNDER ...

Yanks games were they scored or allowed 11+ runs in 2008 ..

12-1 loss followed by 7-1 win
11-3 loss then win 3-2
14-3 loss followed by 9-4 win
12-6 loss then 1-0 win
11-4 loss then 4-3 loss
13-4 loss then 7-6 loss
15-6 loss then 9-0 win
12-5 loss 10-0 win
12-11 win then 6-3 win
12-2 loss 8-0 win
11-2 loss then 12-2 loss above
13-4 loss then 6-3 loss

Yanks pitching tends to bounce back well

For me I dont think either pen is over worked here and think both SP can continue to do what that have done . Which is Materson going 6 innings and Pettitte 7 innings .

Last 2 games have been marathons and wouldnt be suprised to see the UMPS eerr to the side of a quicker game ...expand the strike zone a tad and any bang , bang plays side iwth the defenses...

Yanks are 41-12 L53 in Game 3 after opening with consecutive losses..also 39-16 L55 game 3s...

Under is 7-1-1 L9 Sunday starts for Pettitte but also 25-8-1 UNDER when he starts on normal rest which he is today

Under 25-9 L34 away for Pettitte

Pettitte on Sunday since returning to NYY

He is 10-3 Under Last 13 away SUnday starts ...only allowing 26 earned runs in that stretch and just seems to pitch well on Sunday for whatever reason. Possibly something to do with getting a 2nd start in a week and having better feel but thats a stretch ...

Alot of quirky trends certainly but one thing is clear this is the healthiest and best ball Andy has thrown since coming back . Materson looks to be in good form as well . The pens should be using there top guys from th e7th inn on not the middle relief.

Yanks are 13-7 UNDER L20 away on Sundays and actually have not played consecutive overs in this span except last one of 2007 and first one of 2008 . The only 2009 SUnday road game went over ...Joba vs Meche..they have held opponents to 4 runs or less in 14 of past 20 sunday games as well...

Last 12 Sundays at Fenway Boston is 9-2-1 UNDER with one being a Yank matchup that went over by a half run...boston as well allowing more then 4 runs just 6 of the last 20 Sunday home games ....

Anyway I expect a well played game tonight unlike the past 2 days that is well pitched . The weather will be somewhat cooler as well ...

If you like the Sunday Under (getaway) day theory its 66up if I counted right with the tie game in Zona pending . The runs were 145.5 today ...so that leaves 12.5 runs or so if it is to go under ......

Boston is 247 at home vs LHP so far and NYY is 263 away vs RHPs...

Guessing worst case is a 5-4 game tonight ....

UNDER 9.5 +100 maybe 1st 5 inn UNDER as well:cheers:

never mind the under, just looked at the two SP's # against the other, both guys are not pretty...kinda surprised by that - masterson has a small sample size, not to mention a-rod, nady not in the lineup - BUT

in 5 games last year vs the Yanks (9 1/3 innings) Masterson was 0-2 and had a 4.82 ERA and a .350 BAA. Plus the bullpens have been horrible...

def looking at the over now for the game, i like pettite and he has been solid this year, might still take a shot at the 1st 5 w/ the yanks

Masterson made 5 apps vs NY but just 1 start which was very good in nearly every relief outing vs NYY he struggled . Could be he just isnt accustomed to relieving ....:shake:

IMO throw any stats pertaining to Under out the window when these 2 teams meet at Fenway. You could have a 1000 pages of stats that point to Under, and 4 1/2 hours later they'll have put up 15 runs and left you going WTF?

O/U 32-14-2 there since April 04, and that figure could easily be 38-10

When Rebcca-Optimist Prime at the Yankee Blog talks about saving the day by wagering on the New jersey Devils its a bad sign.

man on second one out and you intentionally walk felipe lopez to get the dp in order and an extra base for a force out .... .... why not take what is an easier out there ??

so frustrating to hold this losing ticket.

A terrible beat. Fuck Brian Wilson.

Had the under and guess i was lucky to push, but still feel kicked in the balls.

1-1 going into the 8th, and for you 4-1 going into bottom 9- with brian wilson mr lights out on the mound and he cant retire the bottom of a joke lineup chocked full of sub .200 hitters.

justin upton, of all people. thats like timo perez hitting a HR. fuck

Fair point but after the high scorings they tend to play under from what I see . In 2007 the RS scored 10 + runs 3 times and the following game saw 4 , 11 and 7 runs . In 2008 7-5 , 9-2 , 3-4 amd 6-2 were the games after either scored DDs....Last 20 April games at Fenway bewteen the two are 12-8 under ...last year the UND was 5-4 as well @ Fenway ..

The point I guess I have the over run is a result of two teams usually with best offenses facing eachother 19 times a season and after a few times the hitters just have a huge edge..IMO:shake:

take out the rain affected games and last year 4-3 to Over at Fenway, & thats 4-2 minus a shutout game (noone's being shutout tonight) - suddenly 5-4 to Under moves to 4-2 to Over in the blink of an eye, which is more representitive of these 2 teams at this venue.

My pov is you dont want to play the Over, pass. This series has had its Under that should have been Over, to expect 2 in the same series here is pushing one's luck to the extreme.

and just for the record, I passed. My only concern is their having used up all their baserunners the last 2 days, which is nothing but an intuitive stance (that could easily be proven baseless).

Agreed thats why the Over was a layup yesterday . This is the best SP matchup on paper I see in the series and you get the higher end of the total..:shake:

Over backers getting hosed ? You have to get hits to score baserunners at some point . The 3 errors werent helpful enough to the over or the bloop singles? The game had 14 hits and 2 weak xbh that I recall . They were lucky to put any runs on the board . Pettitte wasnt sharp and he walks 2 to start the 5th and has Ortiz 1-2 and keeps going with the curveball...definetly got worried when the 5th starting unraveling but even b8th with juiced and no out knew they wouldnt hit Melancon .....

Damon sitting out was silly by Girardi when we have Angel Berroa at 3rd base ..Melky , Berroa , Gardner is sensible ? Tex and Matsui less then 100% ..? What was he thinking.....poor Joe ..shit for brains ..

that was about as comfortable an under as one could have in this matchup ...yesterdays game was a fluke where every ball hit hard left the yard ...

Not trying to argue but thats the last thing I expected to read ...Sox lineup isnt doing much with blackholes Drew and Ortiz actually contributing here and the Yanks lineup is scary soft right now ...

Masterson is so Ramiro Mendoza like just great movement on his pitches and good feel for how to pitch .

AL had 4 games go fav to under , 2 others went +1.5 hom epup to under and the sad part is the one parlay I had in the AL ..?? You guessed it Orioles to under the only one that didnt hit .....thats me ...find ways to butcher good ideas ...like the 1st 5 under in this one..here's another great one ...my for shits parlay ..rockets ML , Magic ML , Hurricanes ML...and we know I loved the under but took the Yanks to complete it instead...

They were lucky to put any runs on the board .

Boston had bases loaded w/none out, and scored nothing. That's an outcome relying on luck the opposite of your quoted sentiment.

This game had 14 hits & 23 baserunners (10 RISP LOB w/2 out), that's enough to cash this Over on a regular basis. Unders are built on sub-20 baserunner counts.

This game went under because 1 team failed to come to play, thereby allowing the other team to cruise with the pressure off (precisely why BOS failed the bases loaded/0 out - no Yankee pressure to demand they had to cash in).
I can't say I expected the Yankees to put in such a limp effort when facing a sweep against such a huge divisional rival.

Sox lineup isnt doing much

Boston has scored at least 4 runs by the 6th inning in 5 of their last 6 games, and in 8 of their last 10. So while they've gotten to many relievers late in recent times, they've still been doing plenty on the front end of games even with a black hole or 2 along for the ride.
