Spring Practice New and Notes....

Don't wanna speculate but have heard something to the effect of a physical confrontation with a coach & him needing to be escorted out by cops. Also a story about running into another player's car after spring game as well. But honestly all I know now is he's gone & tweeted to DGB a lil while ago lol

Unsure of confrontation with coach at this point. The hit and run was on Ali Rogers car supposedly

just gonna keep posting texas stuff here until someone tells me to stop:

the new playbook is apparently bigger than harsin's old playbook. it's supposed to be thicker than a NYC phone book, which is a very bad thing with the longhorn's QB situation the way that it is. this will become even more apparent if david ash goes down.

Chevoski Collins--a WR bust that got moved to safety. the coaches love him there, and he's working with the 2nd team, with rumors saying he'll be starting by the time the season opens up.

Geoff Swaim-- TE that is actually learning to catch the damn ball. the TE is a position texas has been in need of lately, and with the new playbook coming into effect, the TE is probably gonna be a safety valve for ash, or whomever isn't injured. something to watch.

Andrew beck-- An early enrollee that is lighting up the coaches book. When Hicks comes back, Beck probably won't be starting, but it's something to look out for in the new defense. he's learned it quickly and is getting 1st team reps as of now, and if hicks gets hurt again, this kid will be it.

Daje Johnson-- the lonhorn's most explosive player on the field is in bad, bad academic trouble. if he doesn't have bad-ass summer grades, he will lose his eligibility. apparently he got a couple of ZERO'S on his finals last year. charlie strong ain't havin that shit.

The whole incident on the field started when Chad Kelly was arguing with coaches over their decision not to go for it on 4th and 1. I've read that the car accident was with Ali Rogers, and that Chad was a passenger in the car that backed into Ali's car. She wanted to exchange insurance information, and Chad started arguing with her about it. He's been a punk his entire life it seems....he was kicked out of his PA high school, or kicked off of the team (when he was a sophomore I believe), which is how he ended up back here in Buffalo at St. Joe's, where he finished his HS career and completely tore it up.

Jim Kelly has even sat him down in the past (at least once) to try and teach him how to act professionally and not be such a fucking punk. Seems like it went in one ear and out the other. There are some rumblings around here though that he may end up back here at UB. That would be a huge shot in the arm for the program at UB, and he would seemingly do pretty well against MAC competition....but they are simply rumblings at this point, nothing more. I'm not sure if he would be allowed to play this upcoming year for any school, as he would be transferring....I don't know how it works when someone is kicked off of a team as opposed to leaving voluntarily, but I assume that he would have to sit out a year. Does anyone know for sure what the rule is in this situation?

He will have to sit out a year I believe.

However since clemson kicked him out, he can transfer wherever he pleases. I think he ends up at Cuse where there is already one Dabo hater

Tigers looked awful in the spring game too .. watched it last night. I am pretty sure that they couldn't block me.

I think Clemson will be fine with Cole Stoudt. I think he would have won the starting gig anyway. Not sure about throwing a true freshman out there first game against UGA anyway

Who's the true freshman, Stoudt? Chad Kelly is a red-shirt sophomore.

QB Matt Joeckel will transfer from Texas A&M, school announces. Down to Kyle Allen or Kenny Hill in College Station

Signs pointing to Allen: According to sources with direct knowledge of the situation, Texas A&M freshman Kyle Allen is now the leading candidate to replace former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel as the Aggies starting quarterback following spring camp. Those sources indicate that the A&M staff believes Allen is extremely polished and more college-ready than a typical true freshman. Combine this info with Matt Joeckeltransferring and Kenny Hill’s arrest, it looks like the Army All-American from Desert Mountain (Ariz.) could become the first ever true freshman to start for the Aggies when they take the field against South Carolina Carolina Aug. 28 in Columbia, S.C., in the first-ever televised game on the SEC Network

Texas A&M football players Howard Matthews, Edward Pope and Gavin Stansbury were arrested by the College Station Police Department around midnight last Thursday, according to police records.
The offseason as a whole hasn't been kind to coach Kevin Sumlin's program. The arrests of Matthews, Pope and Stansbury come on the heels of Kenny Hill's arrest for public intoxication late last month. The quarterback, in competition with freshman Kyle Allen to succeed NFL-bound Johnny Manziel, was suspended from the team indefinitely and then reinstated this week.
Matthews faces charges of speeding, failure to exhibit a driver's license and failure to appear. The 6-foot-2 senior defensive back was second on the team with 90 tackles last season and tied for first with three interceptions.
Pope faces a charge of failure to appear. The 6-4 junior wide receiver finished last season with nine receptions for 65 yards.
Stansbury, a senior defensive lineman who has played in more than 30 games with the Aggies, faces a misdemeanor charge of assault in Harris County. In a probable cause statement, a complainant alleges that Stansbury poured a can of beer on his head and struck him with a closed fist on April 1 at Rice University.
According to a CSPD public information officer, the three were together when Pope was pulled over for having expired registration on the vehicle. The officer on the scene ran Pope's license and found a warrant for failure to appear. The officer then ran the licenses of Stansbury and Matthews, finding warrants out for both individuals.

Clemson got their championship rings today ... er, I mean they got their Orange Bowl rings today.

Can I get a ring for setting up the Vegas For March Madness?

Good for Matt going to TCU. Will want to see the Froggie futures.
His sister went there for volleyball.
It's in town and he's already graduated from Aggieland.

I guess I'll go ahead & give my 2-cents on a couple teams. I openly follow OU very religiously, & keep very close tabs on Florida & San Diego St. So I'll throw some stuff on here.....closer to football season I'll do a big write up on these teams probably & see how accurate I am throughout the season

Oklahoma:
QB -
Trevor Knight looked like do-do. Lots of people around OK were pissy about it b/c Baker Mayfield played lights out & Knight sucked. However, Knight was going against the 1st team, & was without the majority of his WR's due to them being held out w/ injury (Bell, Shepard, & Neal). I also think it had more to due w/ how good OU's defense can be this year, & how the offense is at a disadvantage due to the defense knowing them so well. Also, Mayfield played against the 2's on defense. OU's season will be determined overall by how consistent & healthy Knight is.
RB - They didn't identify theirselves. Ross & Ford didn't wow anyone so that position battle will go on into the fall full-steam. A bold prediction I had was that Ross will earn the starting job over Ford for this upcoming year, & I'll stick with it. Mixon will have a chance to play immediately once he gets on campus though. Bright spot here was frosh D. Flowers, who the coaches compared to Trey Millard when they recruited him....& he looked like the real deal in the spring game. I am not worried about the RB position at all though....i think there is too much talent here.
WR's/TE's -The starters didnt play in Shepard & Neal, as well as Blake Bell. Another bold prediction I had before spring is that Jordan Smallwood would be a breakout player this year, & he had a solid spring game. I do think this year the TE's will re-emerge at OU finally, but that is yet to be seen. Overall this position is a slight concern....plenty of talent but Shephard is the only player here w/ experience, & Michiah Quick will most likely need to get on campus this summer ready to contribute immediately.
O-Line - Very banged up for spring game, missing 3 starters.....but I think OU's o-line will be very good as long as they can stay healthy.

DL - OU should have 1 of the best DL's in the country this year....& it literally goes 3 deep. 2 deep w/ experienced players, & another deep with very talented guys that I expect to find a way to get on the field this year. Tapper is playing at a real high level and should only get better, & their DL was dominate this spring, even w/o a couple of players such as Jordan Phillips. Sky should be the limit here.
LB - Striker looks like he could have a monster year....dominated the spring game. He was going against the back up tackle on pass rushing situations, but he was blowing by people like they were standing still. He looks to only have gotten better since he ate Cyrus' lunch at the Sugar Bowl. I personally think Dom Alexander will have a sophomore slump, but I hope I'm wrong....supposedly he has been really good this spring & only gotten better though. 2-yr starter Frank Shannon did not play b/c he is in legal trouble & it's unsure if he will be back to the team....this would be a BIG hit for OU. He has been the most consistent LB the last 2 yrs & is very under rated. In the Spring Game Jordan Evans filled in for him & really was possibly the most impactful defensive player, laying big hits, getting INT's, & being all over the ball. Evans may be able to fill the void if Shannon doesnt come back, but he is still a little undersized & more importantly, OU will have zero depth at LB. 1 injury & they are in trouble
DB - I expected Sanchez to have a slump as well this year....but he looked fantastic in the spring game. People couldnt get any seperation from him & he looked like a lock down. The other CB spot is very troubling & worrisome. Safety should be OK....Hayes is back & there are very talented guys fighting for the other spot. Whoever wins the other CB spot will be picked on early & often

Few other notes: Striker is playing a little nickelback. Geneo Grissom is playing DE but also as a stand up pass rushing OLB. JUCO transfer OLB DeVonte Bond looks like a really impressive pass rusher & could make an immediate impact. Mike Stoops wants his best 11 on the field so that is why he is experiementing im sure....but also, starting nickelback Julian Wilson was hurt for the spring, so that has some impact.

Florida:

Last year I was high on Florida just bc of the incredible amount of talent they have on their roster. I know most people were very critical of Driskel, & there were a few that really liked Driskel & thought he would break out last year b/c he was such a talented kid & such a high recruit. I wanted to take the wait & see approach....I wouldn't have been surprised if he did good, but wouldnt be surprised if he sucked balls. In all fairness, the verdict is still out on him....he had good moments in the short time he played, but also had miserable moments & stupid plays against Miami. Main reason i didn't want to put too much stock into Driskel was b/c I didnt like OC Pease at all. He's gone & Roper is in.

I'll go ahead & say I think Driskel has a great chance to be one of the best QB's in the SEC this year. A few reasons is b/c all the stud QB's that made "That SEC Defense" look normal are gone (which means we get to hear ESPN hype up "That SEC Defense" again this year). Athlon Sports ranked Nick Marshall as the best QB in the SEC this year....thats how bad the QB play could be here.

So after watching the spring game I will go ahead & go on a ledge & say that I think Driskel will finally break out this year. He looked very impressive & Florida is finally getting some playmakers at WR to help out.
Gators also look to be loaded at RB.....K Taylor looked very very good in his short time playing, & a new name is Adam Lane....who looked like a bowling ball. Florida is literally 4 deep at the position.
Recievers looked better than these last couple years....but I'll still have to see it on the field. Robinson looks like he could break out this year, but the vets are gonna have to help Driskel out.
O-line will be really good IMO....but I think if they have more than 1 injury then they are in trouble. They are very thin here, & I think their starting 5 will be real good. But if they get more than 1 lineman hurt then they could be in real trouble. Keep in mind, 3-4 of these guys starting this year were injured last year.

I wont go into specifics on defense. Last year Gators went down on defense b/c of terrible offense & when Dom Easley got injured. He was the anchor up the middle & was IMO playing like the best defensive player in the country. He went down, & then teams could run on the gators a little better. Then LB's got injured so players were out of position. This year there is a lot of talent, and a lot of guys that got playing time last year b/c of injuries. As long as they can get someone to man up the middle of the DL (& thats a big IF) then I think they have a good chance to be dominate again. They have a lot of talent here, & Fowler Jr looks to have a monster year, but they really need to find a true pash rushing player. Think the LB's will play very well & there is decent depth there now. VH3 should be lock down corner, & I expect frosh Tabor to get the other spot.....so the youth at CB is a concern, but there is plenty of talent there. Same goes for Safety. I'll go on a bold move & say Marcell Harris will be the next big time safety at Florida...he looked dominate in the spring game, maybe the best defender out there.

Overall: I think Florida will definitely have a bounce back year. They were bogged down by one of the worst offenses in CFB history, & probably the most injuries I've ever seen 1 team have in a year. The only good thing about all those injuries is that it should prepare a team better for the next year w/ all the experienced gained by players who had to fill in. Add in Ropers new offense that I think fits PERFECTLY for Driskels skill set. & I trust any defense Muschamp & Durkin run to be solid out on the field. Florida's biggest obstacle this year is their schedule IMO. It's a gauntlet, but I certainly expect them to go bowling this year, & if they get playmakers at WR, a pass rushing player, & another CB it step up, then I wont be surprised to see them get in the SEC title hunt.
