Figured be good to get thoughts from the locals on as many teams as possible...

Add any thoughts you can.

I watched our 'scrimmage' today...my impressions...

-True FR Freddy Canteen is as good as advertised. His stock seemed to rise late but he runs polished routes already for a freshman. Pretty impressive. Manningham style perhaps?

-Good LB play and secondary will be deep, especially when Peppers comes in this summer. Jourdan Lewis looks really good and i hope he grabs a starting spot.

-The OL is what it is. Injuries and playing different combos is no recipe for success at this point. So, you can basically hinge all of the offense on how they adjust, get healthy etc and perform/get Nuss system down by the end of August.

-Gardner was Gardner but he also never really seemed to step into a throw(rehabbing the broken foot still) and fluttered a few balls.

-Shane will provide good competition to DG and next year will be a great battle with Speight and Shane. Finally, some depth.

-Deveon Smith is just built and runs hard. Love it. Green is in better shape and looked to at least 'fall-forward' better.

Overall, not much, it will be a very solid defense. We'll see what they can muster up front offensively. The talent is there it is gelling it. At least we have a good offensive mind there now instead of the stubborn fatboy. It is encouraging for now and years to come how well the early enrollment kids have progressed. They are on the cusp, need to get coached up right etc and be right there playing like old UM teams me thinks. See what happens.

The LSU studs aren't there yet but reports from DD(a serious homer) has said that the QB situation ain't great...Hayden Rettig has looked the best so far....not good when you have Harris and Jennings supposedly dueling to start

stay tuned

keep us posted, but no homerish shit, jus tha facts about spring practice miss

How about the DL Bar?

I like it, maybe not so much pass rush but will be better and have good depth. Now, with that being said the back 7 will be better and it is tough to really take a lot from Saturday due to going up against our OL lol.

Sounded like Gary Patterson was not happy with the TCU offense. The QB's struggled and turned the ball over and managed to put up 0 points. Not sure how a spring game the offense lays an egg. But also mentioned they don't want to show too much with their new offense and speed of the game

Not sure this is on anyone's radar but Dorian green beckham, mizzu wr and future top draftee arrested for third time and suspended. Think he is done and should be. Not good incident. Son just sent text on it. Not good

What you think about the move of Jake to the middle? Seems his best attribute was putting his hand down occasionally and getting after it....not sure it makes much sense to me..

Basket-case syndrome. Seems to affect a disproportionately high % of wide receivers and defensive backs.

I really do not know how I feel about it at this point. I really didn't concentrate on him during the telecast...read some interviews after and he is still 'adjusting'.

if hoke sticks with gardner he'll be job hunting next winter. morris has so much more upside and i think he's better right now. stronger arm, more accurate, and he's reasonably athletic. he would help open up the running game too. they wonder why they couldn't run the ball last year when they had 4 plays: the off tackle, the qb draw, the pass that dg turned into a draw and the underthrown ball that couldn't take advantage of the drawn up safety lol. the defense looks ready to turn the corner. they'd benefit from fewer midfield turnovers and better time of possession.

Looks like he is damn fun to play for.. I hope this translates to better recruits out here and more wins.
I will be going to the Spring Game tomorrow, and will let you guys know what I see. I can't wait until Arkansas comes into Lubbock in September. I can't imagine how fast Kingsbury will try and play after all of Bielema's comments in the offseason about game tempo.

Can we take the "s" off of the end of the word "Notes" in the title .. it's driving me nuts.

penn state is awful. skinny as hell. they have a melanin deficiency problem too. o'brien miracled some wins and they were lucky enough to keep most of their 2 deep healthy but those paterno era recruit guys are gone. now the faithful think hackenburg is gonna be the savior and there's just no chance in that. he's just hype. a 7 on 7 star. great mechanics and 'look' but if his primary read is taken away he craps his pants. he has to throw on the move it's comical. the oline is the worst i've ever seen in creepy valley. the dline has no real impact guys.

the non conference schedule is embarrassing. neutral ucf, home akron, home umass, home temple. akron might be the toughest of those games. i don't see them beating the bucks, um, indiana, maryland or sparty. i'd say rutgers and nw are 50/50 games. they should beat illy.

read and watched a little more of the psu game. moving zettel to the 3 technique from end was smart but adds to the size problem on defense. he'll play at about 280 in the fall. nt will be 300 but both ends are 240 soaking wet. olaniyan can't rush the passer or stop the run. barnes is poor against the run and only really excels at the wide rush. the three lb's are the smallest that i can possibly remember at psu. the sam and will can run but the mike is a joke. two wrs moved over to help in the secondary. amos is ok at safety but the rest is ho hum. besides that they are paper thin with very little depth at most positions. you know franklin is gonna play a ton of freshman but early on this fall and against most of the better b1g teams that's gonna be trouble.

Miami QBs were pretty bad yesterday. They had a lot of guys out, but not impressed at all.

I saw that's shit haha, baker mayfield looked great though from what I heard also, bullshit rules though has to sit out

Yeah sounds like Wes Lunt is doing well at Illini as well. WR's aren't used to a spiral fast ball coming their way

U sure? Thought I saw 6 of 16 wit a pick or some shit, sounds like he looked turrible

I never did see stats on the game, just an article I read before the spring game occurred. HC Tim Beckman mentioned his leadership, the arm, and pedigree. OC Bill Cubit called him a strong armed, accurate quarterback

[h=1]Tahj Jones shot by ex-LSU player[/h]

SULPHUR, La. -- Former Louisiana State University linebacker Tahj Jones was injured after being shot by another former LSU football player, police said Saturday.
Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats said Jones, a Sulphur resident, was shot Friday night at an apartment complex by Brandon Winey, a former offensive tackle for LSU.
Jones, 24, went to the apartment complex to visit a woman and Winey arrived shortly after to visit the same woman. A fight ensued, and Winey pulled out a handgun and shot Jones in the abdomen, Coats said.
The woman drove Jones to a hospital in Sulphur. He was transferred to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria for surgery Saturday morning. Hospital spokeswoman Charla Ducote said Jones was in serious condition following surgery.
Winey fled in his vehicle and was later arrested at his house in Lake Charles, Coats said. Winey, 36, was charged with attempted second-degree murder and remained jailed Saturday in Sulphur on $1 million bond, according to the Sulphur police department. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette says the university is aware of and monitoring the situation.
Jones, whose college career ended after last season, had taken part in LSU's pro day last Wednesday. A versatile linebacker who also played on special teams, Jones started three games and played in eight for LSU in 2013, but played only one game in 2012 because of academic problems.
He was a backup in 2011 and 2010, coming to LSU after twice being named to the 5A all-state first team at Sulphur High School.
Winey played at LSU from 1997 to 2000 and was drafted in the sixth round in 2001 by the NFL's Miami Dolphins, spending that season with the Denver Broncos. Winey played in 2003 for the Washington Redskins and 2004 for the New York Giants.

Just a routine Jameis day, 27-56, 394yds 2tds & 1int in the spring game. Ho hum. Oh and then he went & got a save in the baseball game the next day vs GT.

Clemson QB Chad Kelly got yanked for mouthing off to the coaches. Cole Stoudt had a good game, though he'll be QB by default now

ND backup QB Malik Zaire outplayed Everett Golson. All I've heard for the last 18 months is how far Zaire has to go. If I didn't know anything about ND, I would have guessed Zaire was the starter and it wouldn't have been very close. Probably shouldn't make make too much of it because Golson was playing with 2nd team O vs 1st team D whereas Zaire was playing with first team O vs second string D.

Brian Kelly just doesn't give a flying fuck about the running game. It's as if he's missed the past 30 years of CFB where the best teams consistently run the football. They have about running 4 plays. No creativity. No misdirection. They finally ran a handful of RB screens. You can probably count on 1 hand the number of RB screens they've run since Kelly got there. Not sure why any top RB would come to ND to play for Kelly. Regardless, highly recruited RB Greg Bryant had a nice 50 yard run. Explosive kid who plays stronger than you would expect for 205 lbs.

Defensive line played surprisingly well because I expect them to suck. WRs were surprisingly mediocre for the depth and talent on hand.

I realize that there is a long way to go until September, but this looks like an 8-4 football team to me.

Rumor as of 5 minutes ago is that Kelly has now been kicked off the team. This is slowly being confirmed by some outlets

Additional rumor that he had to be escorted from coaches office by police

at texas--ash is out and swoopes apparently looks awful working with the 1st team. 3 INT's and the rest of his throws were off target and weak. overstreet is at RB and he looks good, but without wittek actually transferring to UT, this will get ugly quick.

defense looked good but it was against swoopes, so not much to get from that.

ash will be back for the fall, but something to watch out for considering how unhealthy he's been as of late. if he goes down again and wittek isn't around--sheeeit.

Talent not the issue. Either the team abandons the "Keep it weird" attitude and embraces the attitude of people with testicles, or they under perform again. That is all Coach Strong needs to do ... turn the kids away from liberal, panty waste sense of entitlement and toward working hard to get better and earn wins. Hope he is the tough love fatherly guy instead of Mack's babying fatherly figure. That is all that team needs ... a streak of manliness.

Swoopes upside huge ... hope he pans out.,,, I am skeptical of Ash after following his short career so far.

How can UT be so shitty at qb recruiting

We aren't .... We are horrible at coaching.

Won a national title with the "VY drop back and make something happen" offense.
Simms went on to start in the nfl
McCoy went on to start in the NFL
Ash was a huge recruit
Major Applewhite was offensive player of the year in the big12 in 1999
Swoopes was a big recruit ..

We had the head case Gilbert and the legacy McCoy debacles .... but overall there aren't many schools producing better qb's than texas .... the problem is that they never improve from the time they step on campus to the time they leave. Most of that was Davis.

I just don't know what you want as far as recruiting qb's. In recent years the guys texas passed on really turned out a lot better than what texas kept. it happens.

How can UT be so shitty at qb recruiting

VK is correct. the old regime couldn't actually "coach" these kids. ash wasn't even supposed to see the field in his whole career. garret gilbert was somehow the goddamn gatorade player of the year, and connor brewer was supposed to be the next dude. he'll light it up in AZ.
