SEC Week 2

two major injuries in Ball St/UK Saturday - Ball St lost their defensive captain in LB Clayton Coll (110 tackles last season, carted off with a nasty lower leg injury) and UK lost offensive line anchor Kenneth Horsey (lower leg injury and carted off as well) who was replaced by a WVU transfer walk-on Dylan Ray. Depth at guard now a major concern for UK after losing Ohio St xfer Ben Christman for the season in preseason. OC Liam Coen said Horsey has dealt with this injury before, so a little bit of optimism there maybe.

Current lines:

Vandy +10/57
UGA -42/52.5
aTm -4.5/51
Arkansas -38/57
Ole Miss -7/65.5
Mizzou -20.5/48
Miss St -9/60
Alabama -7/54.5
AU -6.5/55

Interested to hear some thoughts on Alabama/Texas. From the Alabama perspective, last week was encouraging from the team, especially Milroe, but obviously this is a big step up in competition. It feels like it should be low scoring, with neither team guaranteed to get in the 30s. We can dive into the matchups, but after what I saw last Saturday from both teams, I am thinking Alabama wins by 10, with it being relatively close the whole way. 27-17, 31-21 type game. I think Texas' key to a cover and a SU win, is either turnovers/penalties from Alabama, or they stop the Alabama run game completely and are able to move the ball on the ground when they are on offense. Both are believable scenarios. Should be an electric atmosphere, and I'm excited as a fan to see how this team matches up. As far as betting, I won't try to talk anyone off of the under, but I feel like I haven't won an under bet in college in years

I kind of think Aggies stomp Miami

I'll defer to Twinkie when discussing the Tulane/Ole Miss game

I am leaning MTSU to keep it reasonable against Mizzou. I don't think they get too beat up last week, and the way they play defense can create big plays (either way), and I'm not sure Mizzou is good enough to play a clean game

Someone talk to me about Cal. I had AU several different ways last week and hit them all. Might be the first time ever that's happened. I think AU will be an over team all year, so if Cal is halfway competent on offense, I like the over out west

Kent St is auto-fade material, right?

Thinking UGA heard the criticisms from last week and think they may cover the over themselves

No real opinion on Vandy or Miss St

If anyone is interested, these guys are usually pretty good at giving a fair rundown. Only thing I can complain about is that he calls Dallas Turner "Daniel"

CA RB Ott is a stud and was one of 33 (out of 252 ) qualifying RB’s with a 85.0 plus overall grade last year. With Freeze admitting at least 15 mis alignments on D, the faithful are concerned. Qb Jackson was back at practice yesterday after what appears to have been an arm/shoulder injury. Finley ( pocket passer but not as good a runner) played the majority of the snaps and did fine last week. The best WR would appear to be Hunter.

Heard AU lost a LB for weeks with thumb surgery but haven’t confirmed. Will ramble more later but at first blush laying a TD on the road with a questionable rush D seems idiotic. Team with the ball last wins? I’m on ov 53.5 fwiw.

Interested in Tulane OM thoughts @twinkie13 @Grovehard
It’s coming. The initial release was pretty low. Even 7 seems a bit low now.
Biggest game on campus in many years maybe ever.

Pratt looked super sharp and he’s got some players. They did RB by committee last week vs the Jags, so not sure they’ve settled. The LB’er being out was leading tackler last week and really played out his mind. Anyone liking the total? I feel like Ole Miss gonna put up points and Tulane too..

layed 7 (little heavier on side) and went over 65.5, so same page there. Dart was making some incredible throws vs top 20 FCS Mercer - hitting the back shoulder ones and ball placement was on point - appears to have taken the step forward we were hearing about in camp and can now see why he beat out Okla St xfer Spencer Sanders... getting more comfortable over time in a largely contingent RPO offense in which he was unfamiliar with after coming over from the pass-heavy Air Raid. Dart and La Tech xfer WR Tre Harris already on same page giving Ole Miss an abundance of weapons on the outside despite losing Mingo and Heath. Looking for Rebs to spread 'em out thin and hit Judkins underneath where I think he takes a big step forward in the pass catching department; will be interesting to see how often Tulane puts an extra guy in the box to help contain the run.

Tulane exposed USA in similar fashion as WKU did back in the Dec bowl game via the passing game. Probably won't see quite as many two-tight end sets as last season with James and Miller having graduated - and of course RB Spears is now with the Titans - but Wave still boast a strong offensive line, a couple homerun hitting capable WRs and a poised QB in Pratt (4-4 on 20+ throws, 43 per vs USA) who could have gone elsewhere but elected to stay with Fritz. They will run some timely tricky stuff and catch you with your pants down, and Ole Miss secondary has a mix of returners and transfers in the secondary under new arrival Golding. Golding's group should have pitched a shutout vs Mercer were it not for that busted play. Obviously Tulane will not be able to afford to fumble the ball three times vs Ole Miss as they did vs USA where they still managed to win the turnover battle. Much respect to Fritz and his coaching prowess, but just think the talent disparity gap is too large here.

with you gps on the Ags covering at Miami... laid the 4.5 and also held my nose and went over 50.5 despite having PTSD from last season's game. After seeing the new look up-tempo offense under Petrino, I'm a buyer as well. We all know Weigman took his lumps last season under pressure but held up well against everything UNM threw at him Saturday - was impressed with his decision-making, scrambling and ball placement. Stewart, Smith, Muhammed and Thomas is just a ridiculously talented receiving corps. And the much-maligned offensive line from 2022 played very well against the exotic blitz-heavy New Mexico defense. I realize they were 38-point favorites, but it was a very positive sign seeing them finally take care of business in that fashion. I'd expect Miami DC Lance Guidry to dial up the pressure Saturday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing how the O-line holds up against stiffer competition.

also thought Miami's hiring of Shannon Dawson as OC was a bit underwhelming. Couldn't stand his play calling at Kentucky, and he's had little success without Dana.

You’ve said it better than me right there. Tulane has done really well for a G5 with the portal.

Low key big game for both programs. You expect this line moving ?

I don’t disagree with anything, and I played Ole Miss TT O 34.5. There are some injury issues, particularly at TE, for the Rebs but that’s a really deep room for them. I’d like to have Franklin at WR, but I think he’s a luxury more than necessity. I expect Tulane to hang for a half, but I don’t see them keeping up with a dinged up Pratt and nobody that scares me at the skill positions.

I’ve got a ton of respect for Fritz and Pratt is a gamer, but there aren’t a lot of dudes on Tulane’s roster that had offers from Ole Miss or anybody else in the SEC.

Edited to add: Ole Miss thought they had Keon Coleman, and I think they almost did until he asked for QB money. Imagine a Tre Harris, Keon Coleman WR room.

on the over

"He's fine," Tulane coach Willie Fritz said this week when addressing Pratt's injury and said that the quarterback should play in the game.

my SEC plays:
Ole Miss -7/over 65.5 small (Wave cover surely this bitch goes over)
Tamu -4.5/over 50.5
Texas +7/ML sprinkle/under 54
Arizona +9.5/ML sprinkle

all roadies, yuck

GL fellas

Jimbo and A&M shit the bed again. Why do people always think every year that it is A&M’s time for a breakout? Dude has been paid well over a million dollars per win. Time to cut ties and write an 80 plus million dollar check!

We got a little lucky with the Ole Miss team total over, but there was also some "ball don't lie" involved as Tre Harris left the game after Ole Miss' first drive and never returned.

was hype for the TT over guys. Harris leaving was obviously huge. Shout out to @twinkie13 with boots on the ground alerting us about Pratt not playing before anyone else got the scoop when it was in limbo. Shannon Dawson ran it up my ass after dissing him. Miami D-Line stepped up big with two guys going down mid game and Van “Dymes” was incredible - back to the type of system he apparently seems to thrive in, duly noted. Weigman looked great, will look to hit some more Petrino overs. Wild game, but not many would have beaten that Miami team Saturday… props to U fans for creating a tough atmosphere
