Biggest question for Alabama is how healthy can they get? I don't know that it would have changed the end result last week, but I was surprised at how limited so many of our players currently are. And while I think it's more than injury, the stuff that Ty Simpson is currently dealing with really needs time to heal. Not sure that 13 days will be enough. On the other hand, it does appear that Jam Miller, Brailsford and Germie Bernard will be back to 100%. Cuevas the TE should also be able to play. The players who left the UGA game (Jefferson and Brown) should be fine. We'll see on LT Overton. I'm guessing the team won't practice fully until later in this week, so I'm not sure how much info will be out, but I'll do my best to get anything I hear in this thread

I don't mind the marquee OOC games being week 2 or 3. I think it would have made a huge difference for Alabama this season. But yeah, not a lot of can't miss games in week 1

It is that time of year

GROK:

Yes, two University of Georgia Bulldogs football players were arrested for shoplifting yesterday (December 12, 2025).

Freshman offensive lineman Dontrell Glover
(a starting guard who appeared in 13 games and was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team) and freshman running back Bo Walker (who played in six games and scored three touchdowns) were both charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting. They were booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail around 5:30-6:00 p.m., posted bond (around $1,500 each plus fees), and were released shortly after.

The university stated they are gathering more information and have no further comment as it's a pending legal matter. This comes amid the team's preparation for the Sugar Bowl College Football Playoff quarterfinal on January 1, 2026, and follows other recent off-field issues in the program (mostly driving-related). Details of what was allegedly shoplifted haven't been released. Reports from sources like ESPN, USA Today, Athens Banner-Herald, and DawgNation confirm the arrests.

In 2012, when asked about the South Carolina-Georgia game being moved from early in the season (typically Week 2) to later, Spurrier said:

"I don't know. I sort of always liked playing them that second game because you could always count on them having two or three key players suspended."

Updated the OP to include the rest of the currently scheduled bowls. Will add the CFP games after they are finalized

I’d wait betting the LSU game until we get closer…that goes for many bowls, obviously.
For a terrible season this is exactly where LSU should be playing and playing against. 🤘🏻

How many of the current staff is Lane keeping? I know Baker is coming back as DC, right? Is Wilson coaching in the bowl? Any big opt outs? Or is all that still being decided?

This has easily been my worst year betting on CFB, so I don't know that I'll be making many bets this bowl season. I went through the lineup of matchups and couldn't find many I even really want to watch. Thanks CFP

Based on practice reports, Alabama should have everyone available that matters, except for LT Overton. I'm not sure how healthy Cuevas and Jam Miller truly are, but the comments on them by the coaches seems positive. Should look like a much different team than the one that went to Atlanta.

I can't really get a feel as to what will happen tonight. It's going to be nice weather, though there will be wind which could impact the passing game and kicking game. I think if you're going to bet this, you have to decide how you think the game will go. If you think OU will force turnovers like they have the last 2 meetings, they will win. If Alabama can protect the ball, they will win. I think it's really that simple. It probably won't be the most esthetically pleasing game, unless you like watching two very good defenses slap around two pretty pedestrian offenses

Do you see any adjustments coming for the Alabama offense by potentially going more up tempo to offset Venables blitzing?

I would like to say yes, but I haven't seen it. At one point in the season, Alabama had scored in the last minute of the 1st half in like 5 straight games, almost all if in the 2 minute drill type offense. Even against OU the first time they got themselves in position to take a few shots in the EZ and then attempt a chip shot FG, which we missed. I would have thought we'd see that more once our offense started to struggle, but to this point we haven't. I think DeBoer definitely holds stuff back for future use, so maybe we'll see it tonight, but I can't confidently say we will. I think playing ball control and field position is a valid strategy because I don't think OU will be able to have success with sustained drives, but that's also true for us. And given our lack of explosive plays, I don't see how we can sit back and wait to hit one

Well, I got that about half right. Definitely did not see that game script coming.

I expect the media will shift the goal posts again after they gave us no shot against OU, now it will be Indiana "has no reason they will lose" according to CBS analyst Richard Johnson, which I'm sure will be parroted by the same media members that were scrambling to delete their tweets last night (looking at you Nicole Auerbach). Obviously Indiana is a really good team, and it's going to be a tough test. I will wait before I make any sort of analysis, but the extra rest can only help Alabama be more like the team that ran through October than the one that ended the season

I'm taking aTm and Ole Miss today. I think the Ole Miss bet kind of speaks for itself. I am not a huge believer in aTm as I think they were mostly the product of a favorable schedule. But I've been betting against Carson Beck on the road for 3 years, and I see no reason to stop now.

I bet on Bama last night but I honestly can’t see them covering or winning against Indiana. What are you seeing that ai am not? No running game, their special teams are atrocious (punting game)/ leads to short fields for their opponent. The defense played really well in the second half but this defense seems a bit soft to me. No disrespect as I am wanting to read others opinions before I lay down a very big wager for me. Good luck!!

If I end up backing Alabama, I would mostly be banking on that as the team gets healthier, they are more like the team they were in October, and not what we've seen over the last month. I have great respect for Indiana's team this season, but Alabama will hold a pretty large talent advantage over them. Now, Ohio St and Oregon did too, so I know that doesn't necessarily mean much, but I think it can close the gap on some of the schematic advantages that may exist. I do think Simpson and the offense got some of their mojo back last night. He, Brailsford, Jam, Germie, and Cuevas were not 100% last night, but they are getting healthier and the next 10+ days will only help. It's a really fair point about the run game, and someone who hasn't been paying much attention won't notice, but it has been getting better over the last few weeks, SEC Champ game aside. We don't need to run for 200 yards to be successful, we just have to be good enough to make a defense account for it. The health of the OL and RBs is pretty key here.

Special teams as you mentioned is a huge concern, but they were able to do enough last night to not lose the game. Ever since the chip shot miss against OU, the kicker has made some high pressure kicks in some really tough environments. I'm not ready to trust him to hit a game winner, but I don't think he's necessarily a liability

I felt that Alabama's defense has been one of the most underrated units in the playoff, and I guess it mostly stems from most people wanting to talk about how bad the offense is. And the first quarter last night was ugly, as our plan was outclassed by OU's plan. But we adjusted and that's what won us the game. Teams haven't had much success driving the length of the field against us, so as long as we don't give up a bunch of short fields (which is possible), the defense should at minimum keep the game within reach

I like the Alabama coaching staff's big game ability. They don't panic and are not scared to go for the win, as evidenced by the multiple 4th down calls this season. Indiana's staff may also be great at that, they just haven't had the opportunities to prove it as consistently.

I am not yet advocating that anyone pick Alabama, these are just some things I can see that would give Alabama backers some level of confidence. It is really hard to erase the image of that disaster in Atlanta, and I get that, but the team that took the field that day isn't a fair representation of the team that will suit up in Pasadena on NYD

LT Overton has been cleared to return for Alabama. Pretty big news. Looking like we'll be taking our healthiest team in a long time to Pasadena

Lots of rain forecasted for Pasadena on Thursday. Sucks for those attending as a clear day and sundown at the Rose Bowl is one of the best spectacles in sport.

Yeah that sucks. I went in 2010 for the Alabama-Texas national championship game and the aura of that place is amazing. The inside experience leaves a lot to be desired though

Initial availability report only includes the players that are out for the season. Definitely the healthiest Alabama has been all season

I haven't watched a single bowl game this season, other than the Alabama CFP game. Looking forward to watching over the next couple of days. I have no real analysis to share due to the large number of opt outs that I am sure have happened and there are others on here that can offer more than I can ever hope to. Of the games left outside of the CFP, I can think of only Vandy and Miss St possibly holding a motivational edge against their opponent, and maybe Texas, but that has more to do with Michigan's situation than Texas. Maybe they want to win one for Biff? I think Tenn at full strength is probably a better team than Illinois, but I know there are considerable opt outs for the Vols and Bielema will definitely have his team ready to beat an SEC team again like last year when they beat SCAR (I think?).

I think the Horns are out 21 players tomorrow including 7 or 8 starters on defense. They also have a new DC in place and are without their secondary coach.

Michigan, through everything, has kept its team basically intact.

I can't run from this game fast enough.

Michigan’s offense is so putrid though that a team of backups could shut them down I feel. Or maybe they run all over Texas. No idea. Weird game and weird line if everyone for Texas is out.

Offense lost its top RB but Manning and the receivers are playing. So should be able to do some things there.

It's the run piece from Michigan with a backup defense, including LBs, that's the issue.

I keep seeing predictions of an Indiana blowout, and maybe I'm just too big of a homer, but I don't see that at all. First, the only teams Indiana blew out this season are the bad teams they played, and Illinois who isn't great, but isn't terrible. If people are expecting Alabama to look like the team that limped into Atlanta, they are going to be wrong. Indiana may still cover, it is only a TD, but all these 31-10, 27-7, etc predictions are wild to me.

Someone posted this on one of our boards the other day, and I have not verified it, but I think it can help explain why the metrics are so out of balance in favor of Indiana:

Indiana rushing offense vs run defenses inside the top 25 (4 opponents)
93.5 YPG
2.8 YPC

Indiana rushing offense vs run defenses outside the top 100 (4 opponents)
324.5 YPG
7.4 YPC

I think Indiana is a really good team, but I don't think they are historically good, or even the best team in the CFP. They may be the best offense Alabama has played, but I think they are probably the 3rd or 4th best defense we've played. They are super fundamentally sound, well coached, and they do a fantastic job of either advanced scouting, or they are OU/Venables level at figuring out signs. They don't make many mistakes, though 4 of their 8 TOs came against the teams in the ballpark of Alabama defensively (Oregon, Iowa, Penn St, and Ohio St). This game looks like a 24-20 type game either way

I'm taking Michigan today. Too little GAF coming from the Texas side. I'm also on Vandy. I think Pavia wants to go out a winner and he's got a lot of dog in him and can will that team to a win. And they're the type of offense that if they get some momentum, they will pour it on you

I think this Indiana defense is close to the UM natty one that had TEMU Saban seeing ghosts with a better QB in the ship.

Also, it doesn’t mean much but this whole Indiana train launched its campaign in the Rose Bowl last year vs UCLA.

Bama is certainly a dog in this one but a massive public one. It’s an insanely strong line for IU vs Bama who is coming of a 34-7 run to close OU.

If these are 4 star kids I would think they could limit UM. Heck, a decent MAC school could. I like UM as a ML parlay piece but not sure this game lands within the number. Which means it will.

I'll have to disagree on the Indiana/Michigan comp. That Michigan defense had like 4 1st rounders and 10 overall NFL players. And Milroe being a better QB than Simpson is laughable. I don't know about the betting trends, but I have yet to see anyone at all give Alabama much of a chance.

Sorry Milroe was a bum. The worst QB in recent history to play meaningful college football. I mean Penix that year was playing better football than Simpson has as of late.

I got you. I forget that Washington played in that natty. Yes Penix is better than Ty, though I'd wager the talent around Ty is better, Odunze excluded
