Portal and Recruiting Thread for 2026....

Johnny Mateer staying at OU which i believe is the right move because he still needs dev.

But I am a Sooner fan so could be too biased here as much as i try to stay objective.

I think his decision is a good one to keep developing his game especially in the intermediate to long throws
and the out routes.

what do you guys think?

I don't see him ever being a professional QB

I'm going to say that I have seen some Baker Mayfield in him, some Jalen Hurts, and some Cam Ward.

I think he has a chance. He has got a ton of moxie. Not as strong a passer as Baker, Cam or Jalen right now, but not as far behind them as some might think.

I say we give him next season and then reevaluate.

John is only 21. Some kids really take a big step forward after turning 22 and going into age 23 which is how old he will be approaching during the NFL draft in April 2027 (his 23rd bday is 4/28/2027).

I think the jury is still out. He has some intangibles that i think can make up for the lack of some of the most desired measurables.

*** Disclaimer: I am a big fan of the kid and obviously of the football team he currently plays for.

These next few days are going to be interesting. A lot of players in the portal who aren't getting the interest and offers they/their agents thought they would. Someone on the Alabama board mentioned he felt bad for a guy who left the team and has been retweeting his portal announcement every day. Guess the $ his "uncle" said was coming is in fact, not

Mensah is mid. He will never play a meaningful snap in the pros. It is a cool story or it used to be. A zero star slight diamond in the rough that got 2.5 million to go to Duke from Tulane…now this?
Millionaire Mid QBs…does a Duke degree even matter anymore?

Worked for Cam, problem is these days #1 picks have no o-line and are thrown straight into the fire

If I'm a top 5 pick you are securing my life before I take 50-60 sacks next year

I think Utah had a case to do this with Moa as well but I think he said don't let the door hit you and have fun blocking for Whittingham.

Even more of a delicate situation as Moa's dad and Scalley were teammates at Utah. I believe that they were even roommates

It is not. This is the highest level in Nebraska. Millard South is 3 miles down the road from me. Lot of controversy around them as they recruit all around the state and even into kansas city. They forfeited one game, against a vegas team, because two players from KC were living with an assistant coach.

our QB recruit for 2027 from Illinois just announced he's moving to Lincoln for his senior year and will commute to Millard South for "school"

Special thanks to Michigan and Bryce Underwood for upping our game this year. Shoutout to Texas A&M for a second half in Tiger Stadium that sealed the deal on the dork from up North. Praise to Michael Cauble for asking a relevant question that lets us know we were spoiled. And lastly but most importantly thank you all for the complete disdain for a man named Lane that in time will prove each and every one of you completely wrong. Bookmark this with a site ban if at least a couple Championships don't come to fruition in the years to come. Its on like Donkey Kong, step your games up fat pocketed schools nationwide. Its Geaux Time!

You guys moving to the Big Ten?

I never understood why the Big Ten ever wanted Rutgers to begin with.

NYC market.

East Coast recruiting.

That area used to be owned by the PSU types.

New Jersey is also a fertile ground for football recruiting. One of Jim's first goals was to grab a seat at the table with regards to recruiting in NJ. The outside linebacker coach for the Seattle Seahawks is Chris Partridge. He played at, and later coaches, Paramous Catholic in Jersey. Jim fired him in 2015. It just so happens that the #1 recruit in America attended school there...

Now, at the time many believed that CP was hired solely due to that #1 recruit. I'm sure that was part of it but he also ended up being recognized in subsequent years as top of the line recruiting guy.

I should mention that the year before Michigan landed this #1 recruit they also landed another 5 star from Paramous Catholic... Jabrill Peppers ..

So, add in another I believe 6-8 guys from that area and Mich officially had a nice pipeline to the NJ area. Trust me, the DMV schools and PSU didn't like someone coming into their territory.

Back to the the first player we spoke of... The nations #1 recruit that year.... A Mr Rashan Gary.

Who finished 2nd in the recruitment of Rashan?

None other than Dabo and the Clemson Tigers.

Here is a fun fact that was known on national signing day that year -- a bagman offered Rashans Uncle 300,000 to go to Clemson. I'm not saying that Dabo was involved, simply noting what happened that year.

So, many find it rich when Dabo is whining and crying.

Before the inevitable questions come in -- Gary's mom (Jen Coney) was very involved in his recruitment and she was very direct about his education.

Anyways, hope that explains it and also kinda ties into the Dabo video from yesterday as well.

I know that was the reasoning at the time but I can tell you for a fact that no one in or around NYC cares about college football or Rutgers besides alumni.

Today is the actual NSD...

Wow, times have changed. This was commitmas back in the day.

I miss it. Bring it back!

I say that but ultimately with free agency the game is so different now in terms of roster construction.

Joey Aguilar apparently has won a restraining order against the NCAA this morning -- so for now he can participate in off-season/spring work.

They used to fight to come out early, now they fight to stay as long as possible lol
As a free market guy, I support players trying to go play where they can make the most money. But they've got to fix this. No reason to have 25 year olds or former professionals playing college sports. But the schools don't want to do anything because they know it may be them next year or the next sport trying to get guys eligible

Maybe Aguilar is a what 4th or 5th rounder?
Only 32 teams and probably never play…..or stay in the league where you CAN play and make 2 million.

Even TJ Finley got another decent payday.

They need to fix something
