Portal and Recruiting Thread for 2026....

The new regime at UM has most definitely been aggressive in solidifying that QB room.

Frankly, the depth has been very poor.

Last season was scary. You had a guy starting that needed to be brought along slower -- the backup who they would have preferred to start initially was hurt the whole time -- and Jadyn Davis isn't a power 5 QB.

So, with Underwood resigned and the additions of CSU hyphen kid and another young talent we're pretty happy on this end.

--------------

Overall, pretty damn good job offensively retaining and adding. We just need to see Marsh actually put the ink to the paper.

The other side of the ball will be the concern.

If the season started today -- I would be stalking a lot of overs.

Correct.

Unless he wanted to go the Dante route to sit and learn a year.

Most of these freshman QBs are not truly ready to start. A guy like Trev Lawrence coming in earlier is the outlier.

Tua was brought along slowly, playing in 2h's of games all year, until he was ready at the biggest moment.

Dante was thrown into the fire right away. NIL pushes this as well. He's a smart kid and realized what had to be done in order to achieve his dream of playing at the next level. He did a reset on his career and that's worked out nicely.

Now, we'll see how he does at the next level. I'm not saying he'll be a star at all. He does have the talent and the work ethic needed. We'll see from there.
If he's stupidly drafted by the Jets it will be a Josh Rosen situation all over again when the next coach and GM draft his replacement in the 2027 draft.

Ty Simpson turned down $6.5 million to go to the Canes and stay in the draft. His dad apparently said he has a 1st round grade by all 32 gms. Not sure I'm buying that.

What the hell is Miami thinking offering that guy 6.5 million.

When Dante stays at Oregon for whatever Phil will pay him (heard this is a real possibility and Raiola is willing to sit a year if so) then you can enjoy the Jets drafting Simpson. I know you hate Moore with a passion but I simply don't agree with that assessment but also know going to the Jets would be terrible for his career.

The Jets next QB is Kyler which should make you happy.

Well considering he was benched for over half a season we already knew he was going somewhere, he's a non-factor for my opinion. I just don't know who we get to play QB next season. Hopefully we have some sort of running game, the OL is certainly there to make it happen as has been proven. It's really possible the only option is bringing Brissett back and maybe he'd be the best option at this point, I don't know because all he did was throw 45 passes per game with no running game and put the defense on the field for a ton of minutes each game. Completely opposite the team identity and why Gannon is gone.

If Dante comes out you are more than welcome to trade up and get him.

Rosen and Moore are not all that similar at all.

Josh was not all that accurate. He was between 59-62% on his completions. This was evident watching the career in the P12.

Time for Kyler to move on.

I can see him doing well in the right system. A team with a nice OL and decent weapons.

Maybe a 1-2 resurrection of sorts.

As always, health is paramount for Murray.

Roster is built to win now. Only QB we're drafting has to be later and expected to sit for a season. There isn't a ton on offense or defense to overhaul other than OL depth and possibly CB. RB was obviously an issue and starting QB issue just made that exponentially worse. I wouldn't mind a year 3 or even a year 2 Dante here but not like he's Kyler, he's a very good pocket QB but so is Brissett lol. He's more athletic but that means nothing when we will likely be loaded at the skill positions if Harrison can start producing like every other OSU WR does.

Ugh got off topic a tad, feel free to move somewhere else talking about draft and such.

As long as Whit doesn't make eye contact or talk to your QB's they've got a shot a being good.

I, too, was questioning this, Bud, but after Fernando there is a big dropoff so it could be true that he is a first rounder by default.

In a 'normal' draft i would have had him late 2nd maybe 3rd round.

does this sound reasonable?

I'm looking forward to seeing him in a Jets uniform when they use the second overall pick on him and yes he is worthy of going that high.
i don't see it, Bud. i enjoy watching the kid. no hate from me. i just don't see him getting drafted before the 4th or 5th round.

what am i missing?

Well I'm Mendoza/Moore as 1/1A then the rest and I'm not sure Simpson is the best of the rest but it still will always matter the situation they go to. Mendoza ain't solving anything anytime soon with the Vegas OL while he learns the speed of the pros and is on his ass 12 times a game or more likely in the tent a bunch. But neither will Moore in NJ so there's that. Maybe Simpson luckboxes something.

totally agree, Bud.

his arm is extremely strong for a dude his size. a little bit of flutie and russell wilson rolled into one w/ the arm strength and moxy but the right system and organization is key for him.

the cards have not done very well w/ QB's since their SB run over 15y ago with kurt warner.

okay i had not factored in moore since he has not declared yet but yes, safe wager he is the 2nd signal collar off the board.

Great news finally out of Ames after we've lost over 50 to the portal and 16 starters...

The TE position is set after landing one from Hampton and another following his QB from Ark St. With 3 incoming freshmen we are now 6 deep at the position.

This is going to be ugly early on but I do like the QB at least

Also if Simpson's camp knew Dante was leaning towards going back to Eugene that made going to the NFL this year a no brainer

He wouldn't likely be a top 5 QB next year

I saw that the redshirt was a real potential after the game on Friday night. As if Raiola was going regardless.

Enjoy Ty Simpson @Brewers888, just not in Miami
Anything that humiliates Woody and Glenn is something I enjoy seeing and I stand by my opinion that Dante sucks anyway. The jets QBs are going to be Kyler and either Pavia or Allar.

From a professional standpoint Dante made the right decision but unless Phil Knight has promised him big money beyond this year he's going to miss out on a lot of money since he will be drafted nowhere near the second pick next season.

Leavitt is your guy

Now he has a backup. I have no clue what Sam is getting paid but he made it clear it was all about the money.
A big part of it might be that he wanted to play on a much bigger stage than the Big 12 and Lane also helped Jaxson Dart and Trinidad Chambliss get their games to the next level. ?

He allegedly had been down to Indiana, Oregon, LSU and Miami for quite awhile. Some talk about Texas Tech also. Many thought since he's from Oregon that would be likely but he wasn't recruited there out of HS so some figured he didn't want to go there. Moot point with Moore and Raiola anyway.

But he blatantly said he would go to whoever paid him the most, proudly announced his free agency before the end of the season. All games are on big networks these days in the power 4 anyway. I'm sure he got paid well and probably should have held out for the Canes since the Bama guy burned them.

I believe UK was real there before a few of those schools believe it or not.
LSU and Lane hit the portal nicely or at least rated as much.
Anyone calling the shot that Sammy can’t beat out these 2?

Only way UK was real would have been the new coach and I have no clue how they could have matched those other schools with NIL since I'm sure they spend more than the others on hoops.

Stein has done pretty well in the portal. I will be interested to see if the fans/boosters start throwing more money at football. Their hoops isn't in a great place this year.

Been roughly 6 weeks since Campbell left ISU for Pedo St and took over half our team with him but Jimmy Rogers has done well landing 43 players to this point in the portal. Of course many were Wazzu commits but several from elsewhere also. Landed a DB yesterday who was at Ark after a stint at UGA. Of course I googled him at the time and don't know his name at the moment but was a 5 star out of HS which obviously means nothing anymore but we just need a team. First few weeks could be fugly. Sucks not knowing any of our team going into the season, that's literally what I loved about CFB.

Johnny Mateer staying at OU which i believe is the right move because he still needs dev.

But I am a Sooner fan so could be too biased here as much as i try to stay objective.

I think his decision is a good one to keep developing his game especially in the intermediate to long throws
and the out routes.

what do you guys think?

Simple and easy decision
